Now you might be thinking: “Why should I take this test?” Right? That’s because the chemicals present in the water may damage your skin cells and some of them are very harmful to your body. So it is advised to take a series of tests to determine all these things. Today we are going to tell you how you can take the chlorine, pH test and other tests by simple methods. Just buy any pool test kit and take the test all by yourself.
This blog describes the following tests:
● Chlorine Test ● pH Test ● Alkalinity Test ● Acid demand Test
There are also some other special tests such as Tests for salt on saltwater pools, Phosphates test, and TDS (total dissolved solids) test.
You’ll Need: Five-way pool water test kit
Time: 5 minutes per test and in total it takes less than 30 minutes.
So let’s start with the first test that is the Chlorine Test, and after that, we tell you one by one about the other tests.

Chlorine Test 1. Take a Water Sample
Source: defense.gov
The very first step is to take a sample of your pool water, so for that dip the tester in the pool. For accurate results take the sample from the depth of the pool (minimum 18 inches).
Note: Make sure that the water is filled up to the mark given in the kit.
2. Testing Free Chlorine and Residual Chlorine

So at first, we are going to tell you about the Chlorine test. There are 4 solutions in the kit, so take out the Solution 1 and put 5 drops of it in the first column.
Note: There might be certain kits where you will see dissolvable tablets instead of the liquid testing solution. If that is the case, follow the same process.
3. Mix the Solution

Now place the caps on the column and mix it several times.
4. Compare Colors

After mixing the solutions, wait for a few seconds. After that, compare the colors and see what the chlorine level in your pool is.
Note:
In some kits, you’ll see there is a separate test for free
chlorine and residual chlorine and each requires different tablets or solutions.
Here is the complete table so you can find the correct values.

pH Test: After the chlorine test, the second test that we are going to tell you about is the pH test. Remove the solution from the kit and clean it, then fill it again with the pool water in the larger tube of the kit.
Now integrate one drop of solution 4 and smoothly assimilate it. This solution is Sodium Thiosulfate (chlorine neutralizer). Once this process is done, include 5 drops of solution 2, which is a red phenol indicator. Mix it together in such a way that the entire solution gets swirled together. Then, you can compare the results the check whether the pH level is correct or not.
Note: Below 7.2 is not good for your pool because this results in the corrosion and staining of the pool plaster. That’s why we add soda ash to bring the pH level up.

Acid Demand Test After you’re done with the pH test, it time to do the acid demand test and for that take a sample of the pH test and add acid demand titrant. Carefully put this solution drop by drop and don’t forget to swirl the container. Repeat this until the color matches with 7.4 to the indicator.
Total Alkalinity Test And the last test in this series of pool tests is the Alkaline Test. In this, we find the total alkalinity of the pool water. So rinse and clean the kit as usual and fill it up with the water again (last time). Now add a drop of solution 4 and then a drop of the solution 5B. Then swirl the solution. After this, add the solution 3 drop by drop and check the coloration. Repeat the process until it changes to light yellow or light green.
Note: After you’re done with all the tests, dry and pack up the pool test kit in a dry and cool place.
What is the Best Timing for these Tests? TESTS

So these are the 4 tests that are very common and important analysis that you should do on a regular basis. Not only they make the water comfortable for you to swim but also increase the life span of your pool. First, analyze the water balance of your pool and then
