How To Organize Your Bedroom For Cooling Night’s Sleep

It is summer, you are in bed tossing and turning, helplessly flailing tethering between slumber land and hades. Extreme heat and sleep are not two phenomena that mix well; your body requires the optimal temperature to allow some of the processes that keep you awake to shut down. Without this shutdown, your brain will keep on working as if it is daytime.

An Air conditioner is the best solution for this problem. However, an AC is not cheaply bought or powered. Even if you could afford one additional cost to your electric bill, where to put it for the best results is another tough question. Here are a few simple hacks for organizing your room to make it cooler.

The Best Place To Put An Air Conditioner

Conventional thinking and hotel visits might inform you that directly above the headboard is the best place for an AC. However, the ideal place to put it should be to the right or the left side of the board. If it above your headboard, the results are not only limited to your head, and upper body but are also freezing. You will always wake up with a dry and scratchy throat. If you place it to the side and at a minimum distance of 3 feet a maximum of 6 feet, the fresh air is evenly distributed, resulting in not only a cooler you, but a chiller room.

Situating Some Buckets Of Water

Placing a bucket of water or 2 in your bedroom can act as a dump cooler, which adds a little humidity to your bedroom. Since water evaporated when there is heat applied to it, it turns into water favor, which makes the air cooler. Place two buckets at least half filled with water in your room for optimal results. You can place one beside the door and one by the window. This way the cool vapor is blown by the wind that comes through the inlet and outlet points of the room.

Create A Cross Breeze

If you have a portable fan like a desk fan, you can maximize its effect by placing it across a window. By positioning it where the fan generated the breeze from outside, and the wind combines to create a much superior cooling breeze. It is even better if there are more windows and fans in your house. You can position them evenly throughout the room to maximize the effect, especially in a sweltering summer.

Position Your Bed Across Your Window

Putting your bed at least two feet away from your window ensures that you catch a fairer share of the cold night breeze. It also guarantees that in the case of the unpredictable summer rains, you are a reasonable distance away from the windows so you won’t catch a splash. In bed, you continuously turn as you let the breeze onto the exposed areas of your body. You can also use a corrector for men or women and ensure your body is well aligned throughout the chilly night.

Add Some Plants

You can get some potted plants for your bedroom. They make a room cooler by increasing the amount of water vapor in the room. Plants transpire (sweat out water), and the soil they are rooted in has water evaporating from it. This is the reason where forests and leafy areas of town are cooler than the inner city. To maximize this effect fill a tray with small rocks and pebbles, add some water, and set the plant on top. Just make sure you always water the plant and have an open window lest the plant dies.

Remove All Electronics From Your Room

Electronics not only distract as you try to sleep but also radiate heat and noise even when they are off. You can completely remove them from your bedroom or unplug the completely form outlets. It is also a good idea to keep your mobile phone outside your bedroom at night for a night of better quality sleep.

Build Some French Windows

If you can afford it and your house is up for some remodeling, you can consider installing some French windows into the side of your bedroom. That is also if you have a nice safe balcony. French windows have the added advantage of acting as a door, which means they let a lot of air and light in, maximizing the airflow and comfort in your bedroom.
