VISIONS + OBJECTIVES A series of neatly aligned to-be building blocks surround the public park at Tun Razak Exchange, reminiscing the neat avenues and boulevards along Central Park in New York, New York. Plot controls and mandatory requirements are to ensure a unified presence parallel to Jalan Barat. Ten 15 West aims to inject a little bit of fun into the very formal and carefully orchestrated master plan. Adhering strictly to the requirements and controls on plot 10.15 would result in a stumpy cuboid, which is hardly iconic in shape. The restricted height would not allow for a more elegant and slim massing, so the only way to balance out the building’s height and width is to slim the tower down, visually separating the relationship between tower and podium at the same time. This has always been the main architectural vision for the serviced apartment. A north-south orientation is a safe bet against spiralling indoor cooling costs and is also visually pleasing from Jalan Barat or the Public Park. Increased distance and field of view between neighbouring buildings compensates for less park views on the north and south facades. Internal atriums with sky balconies encourage airflow within the building, providing a different experience and indirect surveillance. Greenery from the park ‘crawls’ into the various social areas within the tower and podium. The angled shape of this building is a representation of kow-towing to the morning and evening sun – acknowledging its importance even when the building refuses to fully face both. It branches away from the elegant curves of Signature Tower and the expected cuboid shapes of adjacent buildings. Ten 15 West stands out simply by its shape, without hiding behind decorative facade shading devices. It is designed for the daring and those who stay away from the norm.

DESIGN FEATURES A DIAGRID HIGH PERFORMANCE SHADING FIN SYSTEM
The tower is further defined by its system of perforated, aluminium triangular fins that trace up all four elevations. Each fin is assembled from a kit of standards parts that forms an efficient unified component. The fins shade the tower, preventing excessive solar heat gain and glare to the interior. The design team laid them out in a diagrid pattern that wraps the entire building so as to maximize these high performance benefits.
