“Motherhood”
“In this beautiful world there is nothing more cherished, no duty more honorable, no responsibility more sacred, no task more difficult, than that of Motherhood” -Dedication Aghia Anna Retreat, Dumont, Colorado
The Greatness of Orthodoxy Here in the United States in cies and places where the other Orthodox jurisdicons (Anochian, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, etc.) do not have parishes or priests of their own, our Greek Orthodox Archdiocese desires and strives to embrace the spiritual needs of all. So well-pleasing and very beauful are our shared and common feelings every me and whenever all of us, as one Orthodox family, aend the liturgy! And when we commune together from the same holy spoon and sacred Paten/Chalice, making the sign of the cross in the same way, and kissing the holy icons also in the same reverent manner, our assurance of God‘s presence in our lives is confirmed. Aer Divine Liturgy at all our parishes, we all sit together at the same table of love and we savor, aer receiving our spiritual food, our physical nourishment: the foods, sweets and fruits that our good Chrisan women bring and those things which are prepared by the parish council members. At each of these gatherings we confirm that we are truly one family, even if we belong to different naonalies, we are the family of God - the Church, Orthodox Chrisans all.
At our table of love then, we converse together about God-pleasing things. And, one desiring to help and encourage the other, we seek soluons to our various problems through our common faith and hope in the true Triune God, and with trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and in our Panaghia and in our holy saints. As Orthodox Chrisans we experience the same feelings and joy when we go to each others homes, whether Greek or not. And whether for a visit or a home blessing or to hear a confession, we priests feel the same wherever we go. We also behold there in the homes the same Orthodox icons, the same Orthodox habits of welcome and “philoxenia” (hospitality). We realize that actually nothing separates us, not even language, because we all speak the same language of Chrisan, brotherly love. Others have the same experience as we do, whatever naon (of this temporary world) our Orthodox brothers come from; they see the Greek Bishop as their own Bishop, the Serbian, Lebanese or Romanian priest as their own priest. A truly wonderful work of the Holy Spirit was begun in Chambesy, Switzerland (2007) under the auspices of the Ecumenical Patriarchate; the Pre-Conciliar, PanOrthodox Conference for the Pan-Orthodox Episcopal Assemblies. This Assembly of Bishops now periodically gathers in different parts of the Globe. Following the
first providenal beginning, other beauful things have been done so that slowly but surely all our ethnic sensivies are being aended to and prejudices are being calmed and put aside. In every area of the world there should exist one Orthodox Bishop, with his simple or rather “combined” flock, who, as the true spiritual father and shepherd will labor to tend to the needs and sensivies of his flock demonstrang reverence and understanding with regard to the parcular customs, language and tradions etc. of all, United Orthodoxy has always been - and will connue to be our triumph! The hope for the world today is Orthodoxy; the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. And all of us in the Church need to understand this, pung aside every minor diversity, responding in unity to the will of the Christ our true God, Who - “desires that all men should be saved and come to the knowledge of truth” (1 Tim. 2:4).

Thou didst pass on to life, since thou art the Mother of Life, and by thy intercessions thou redeems our souls from death. O Lord, through the intercessions of Your All Holy Mother we beseech, O Mother of God, have mercy on the suffering sick children...

O Victorious Lady ~ Τῆ Ὺπερμάχῳ As Orthodox mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters and caregivers we are combang encroaching worldly ideas which bombard our families every nano second with messages which never menon God or our relaonship to Him. It is our role as a Gate Keeper and custodian not to despair and to press onward and stand our ground by upholding the Orthodox mind-set or phronima of the Orthodox family the microcosm of the Great Church. -Angela Damianakis, MSW, Orthodox Lecturer
His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I Eis Polla, Eti Despota!
The Epistle of Love (1 Corinthians 13)
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gi of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is paent, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be slled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflecon as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.“
Beloved Chrisans, XPICTOC ANECTH! CHRIST IS RISEN! Children, our JOY! This beauful, full-color and inspiring Paschal Calendar is offered with “agape” from the Brotherhood of Saint George as a gi of encouragement to one and all. At the crucifixion of our Risen Savior, the thief was the first to enter into paradise. Indeed, repentance is arguably God’s most wonderful gi! It is the gi God gives in order to help us grow in His love! Saint Dorotheos of Gaza tells us that “the ship upon which we traverse the sea of life is called ‘Repentance.’” Courage! then, Take Heart! (Grk: Tharros!) In the Gospel according to John the Theologian (16:33) our Risen Savior, Who knows the sufferings we endure, in myriad ways (supplied by His Church) wants to encourage us to stay the course of r e p e n t a n c e . Christ has given us the epitrachileion (stole) of the priest - beneath which, bowing in repentance, we are liberated of our sins. Of course, self-awareness and mature humility are the prerequisites for thorough repentance. As good parents reprove their children to make them stronger (oen mes everybody must suffer the consequences of the guilty one; eg: “nobody’s going to have ice-cream tonight!” just so, God desires that all men grow through repentance. Let’s listen to what Saint Niphon (a contemporary of Basil the Great) says about our off-spring: “In that the transgressions of parents have mulplied, their children are reproved - so that they (the parents) might feel their sins and repent.” Επειδή πληθυνθηκαν οι ανομίες των γονέων, παιδεύονται τα παιδιά τους, γία να συναίσθανθούν έτσι τις αμαρτίες τους και να μετανοήσουν -Aγίου Νήφωνα For joy! then, let us run to the safe harbor of Christ’s love and forgiveness; the Mystery (sacrament) of Holy Reconciliaon/ Repentance/Confession.
