PING’AN BANK HEADQUARTERS
Zhengzhou, China 42,300m2 Schematic Design Design Development Review Construction Documents Review Construction Supervision 2013-present
BIAD CROSSBOUNDARIES The notion of growth system as understood by the Japanese Metabolists is taking shape in the expansion of the city of Zhengzhou, capital of Henan. “A city that interconnects, pulses and lives.“ The new district of Zhengdong is a cell cluster without a center. Structured along a ring road, three concentrical rows of seemingly anonymous buildings embrace the lake that becomes the core of the sub-CBD. In this context, the new building for the headquarters of Ping’an bank grows from a matrix, and tries to get the best out of it by naturally allowing for its growth. The building presents itself as a solid volume; one of restrained appearance, but of rich content. A “gold vein” that starts on the groundfloor extends the main street towards the platform onto the lake on the fifth level, then reaching up to the top floor, thus transforming the interior of the building into a vibrant one.

BIAD CROSSBOUNDARIES
The perception of the space and the velocity are the basical concept for the BMW Beijing Private Museum. With two entrances to the exhibition space the functional connection between the different display areas can be enhanced, turning the way through the exhibiton into an experience. Based on the proportions of the floor volume and on the functions of each floor, the geometry elements and the materiality are difrefrent. The architectural elements applied in the space follow the geometric proportions given and relate to the functions assigned to the specific areas. Vertical panels on the 3rd floor are used to define and subdivide the space. Horizontal panels with a mirroring effect on the 4th floor make the space appear higher than it is. The space is “duplicated. A series of three red-colored screens is found in the 3rd floor as an abstract representation of the Chinese red gate.

Family Box is something between a indoor playground and a kindergarten for children up twelve years old, but it also accomadates their parents’ needs. It host different kind of activities - from swimming, playng games to various classes ranging from music, dancing, crafting to cooking. The spatial concept is really simple, we recive a complex programme not according whit the the smq site. We present two principal solution: efficient use of the space in relation to time and use the wall like more than just a separation; it is a multi-functional surface.
ZHANG DA QIAN MUSEUM
Neijiang, China 12000 m2
F easibility - C oncept - S chematic D esign 2011 - 2012
EMBTMIRALLES TAGLIABUE The painter Zhang Da Qian is known as the most legendary master of Chinese painting during the 20th century. On April 2010, Excellence group invited EMBT to design Zhang Da Qian’s museum in Neijang city, the painter’s hometown. The design philosophy behind the museum would be to integrate the cultural essence of east and west and to built, expressing the past and the future. The museum will be the landmark of the city. The museum will grow from an existing tea-house and will extend its pavilions over and around a garden that moves topographically on different levels, enclosing part of the old trees in its interior. The motives and gestures extracted from Zhang da Qian’s painting will shape the forms of the laminated bamboo ribs that conform the vertical sections, while the interpretation that the chinese painter did of Picasso face will inform the geometries of the plan. This merging of geometries from Picasso and Zhang Da Qian wants to emphasize their relationship that enhanced the two cities to pepetuate this friendship.

EMBTMIRALLES TAGLIABUE
On the ground plane the horizontal patterns in the street reflect the vertical form. They are the modern garden for the building’s inhabitants and the offering to the city; a new pontoon extends the shoreline out once more, but this time for the enjoyment of people and no other practical or industrial purpose. The most significant environmental element of the tower is the skin. It touches outside and connects the inner building to its environment in a subtle and meaningful manner.

EMBTMIRALLES TAGLIABUE
The atmosphere of chinese landscape paintings is seeked for this garden. Building an artificial scenario as natural as possible where to play the illusion of nature. The materials chosen for the garden should come from the earth The trees are arranged responding to an imagined microlandscape where pine trees and cedar trees are in the upper part of the garden and decidious flowering trees in the lower part, as if the upper part would correspond to the mountains and the lower part to the valley. A reinterprentation of traditional chinese wicker fence encloses the garden and ensure a certain feeling of secrecy. Here we will have climbing vegetation. All senses should be stimulated... birds will sing for the ears of visitants. Three types of birdcages will be placed in the garden. two standing on the ground and one hanging from the trees. The artificial lighting for the garden is seeked in a very natural way.

SPANISH PAVILION EXPO SHANGHAI 2010
Shangai, China 8000 m2 Feasibility - Concept - Schematic Design Design Development Review Construction Documents Review Construction Supervision 2013 - present
EMBTMIRALLES TAGLIABUE Aside from the spaces destined to hold the main exhibits, the pavilion counts with installations to host official receptions, an auditorium with 150 seats, a conference room equipped with simultaneous translation, a press room with a production set, and a support area for Spanish companies endowed with meeting rooms and work desks. Together with France, England, Germany and Italy, the Spanish Pavilion is one of the biggest in the Expo. The Spanish Pavilion for the 2010 World Expo of Shanghai seeks to reflect upon the Spanish climate, as well as to recover the craft of wickerwork in order to bring it back to life and to reinvent it as a new construction technique. Furthermore, it seeks to introduce wicker as a sustainable and viable material concept that remains present throughout the building. Basketry techniques, handcrafts with natural fibers, are a global tradition shared by cultures of all times. Even though they vary from region to re-
gion, they occur in similar ways East and West. The material choice for the pavilion attempts to bridge between two cultures, the Spanish (visiting) and the Chinese (the host). The Structure The nature of the project demanded a new collaboration model between the architect and the engineer. The free form of the structure is characterized by complex curvatures that made necessary the development of an independent structural system to support the form. The search for this structural expression is defined by a search for the´tensegrity` of the form, the double curvature wrapping facade that constituted, simultaneously, the solution to the problem and a challenge. The problem of the facade was solved with a three dimensional grid of tubular elements that come together to form double facades capable of responding to the different requirements of the building dead loads, live loads, wind pressure and seismic activity. Interior columns, floor slabs, sheer walls and elevator cores comprise a structural system to which every part is essential to he integral performance of the system. Having manipulated the form through complex computer-aided technologies, vertical and horizontal planes were cut for the assembly of the surface and resulted in curves that defined the axes of the tubular structure.
