3D-PRINTING WOOD

Professor: Christoph Klemmt

This studio explored the architectural possibilities of 3D-printing with wood. The built environment is one of the main emitters of CO2, both through construction and the occupation of buildings, while their demolition causes significant amounts of waste. It is therefore paramount for architects to address these challenges through the design of our buildings.

The material explored is fully biodegradable, plant-based, and with low energy consumption in its production. The studio advanced the understanding and technical possibilities of the methodology through research into the material and its production. This led to the construction of a large-scale prototype. Students developed architectural applications through building design proposals.
