FUN CAMP

Hello, Campers and Parents! We are preparing to bring you the best summer camp in town and we hope you’ll join us and tell your friends. Each summer, St. Andrew’s faculty, upper school students and recent graduates come together to create a day camp that’s equal parts learning, exploring, inventing, playing, laughing, tasting and having fun. All are welcome — you don’t have to be a St. Andrew’s student to attend summer camps. All camps are taught by St. Andrew’s faculty and are way more than just day care. We take all kids in kindergarten and older on weekly field trips. We keep the whole kid active — mind and body. They should come home each day tired, happy and ready to do it all again the next day. This year, Kindercamp is open to rising PK4, K, and 1st graders, and Adventure Camp is open to rising 2nd through 6th graders. All camps will take place in the lower school main building. As always, our professional coaching staff also offers many athletic camps at the north campus, and we have a variety of academic and specialty camps from the Reading Clinic to Video Game Creation. THE 2016 SAINTS SUMMER EXPERIENCE DAY CAMP WEEKLY THEMES WEEK 1: OUR COMMUNITY (June 6 – 10) Join us as we learn more about the corner of the world we call home. We’ll learn all about Mississippi and Jackson, study our storied past and exciting future, and meet important members of our local community — nurses, doctors, fire fighters, police officers, and more! WEEK 2: AROUND THE WORLD (June 13 – 17) Bring your passport as we journey to a different exciting country each day this week. We’ll learn all about our friends in other parts of the world — the sports they play, the food they eat, the houses they live in, and what they do for fun. WEEK 3: ANIMALS ARE AWESOME! (June 20 – 24) Come and learn all about our animal friends! We will study tiny insects and enormous elephants. We’ll learn about each other’s pets, help out a local animal shelter, and everyone K and older will finish the week with a trip to the zoo. WEEK 4: ALL ABOUT THE USA! (June 27 – July 1) Learn all about this great country! We’ll have a patriotic parade around campus, learn about people throughout history who have made America what it is today, and we might even hold an election for Camp President! WEEK 5: GET SPORTY! (July 5* – July 8) This fun-filled week will be all about sports and games. We will learn about everything from golf to Quidditch. Come have a ball with us! *no camp on Monday, July 4

WEEK 6: FANTASY LAND (July 11 – 15) Let your imagination take you on a magical trip to a fantasy land. Learn about mystical creatures and myths from long ago, fairy tales, and science fiction. We’ll play games, eat silly foods, and dress up as our favorite characters. WEEK 7: ART EXPLOSION! (July 18 – 22) Watch out! We’re making art all week and it’s going to be a rocking good time. We’ll learn about all kinds of art and will make some of our own. WEEK 8: SUPER SCIENCE (July 25 – 29) Explore the oceans. Travel through space. Conduct some wacky experiments and get your work published in Scientific Camper! Bring your thinking cap and get ready to experiment!

2016 DAY CAMPS Eight Weeks of Excitement!

Each summer, we commit to providing every camper the best, safest possible day camp experience. From our programming to our policies, everything is planned with the camper in mind. COST – $225.00 per week To reserve spot, a $50 non-refundable deposit per camp week must be paid online. Balance of $175 per camp session is due by first day of camp week.

DAY CAMP – REGULAR HOURS 8:30 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.

Drop off starts at 7:30 a.m. Afternoon carpool is 2:45 to 3:00 p.m.

AFTER CAMP CARE – $50.00 per week 2:45 – 5:45 p.m.

EARLY REGISTRATION DISCOUNT Register online ON OR BEFORE April 4, 2016, and save $25.00 per week of camp.

LATE PICKUP – $50.00 (payable upon pickup)

SIBLING DISCOUNT Third and fourth siblings are eligible to receive a 10% discount on regular camp tuition.

DROP-INS (regular day camp or after camp care) Four hours or less – $30 per day (payable that day) Over four hours – $60 per day (payable that day)

LUNCH – NEW THIS YEAR! Brown bag lunches (vegetarian and non-vegetarian option available) can be added to your camp plan for an additional $25.00 per week. Lunches are made fresh each morning and include a sandwich on whole wheat, a pack of goldfish or cheese crackers, a cookie, piece of fruit and a juice box. Vegetarian option will be sunbutter and jelly each day. Non-vegetarian option will alternate between turkey/cheese and roast beef/cheese. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES WALK-UP REGISTRATION

Parents are strongly encouraged to register their camper(s) well in advance so that we have the best staff-tocamper ratio, but we understand that for unforeseen reasons you may need to register at the last minute. If you find yourself in this situation, you can enroll online until 8:00 a.m. (or in person until 9:30 a.m.) on the first day of any camp session with space remaining. If you show up in person, please bring payment with you.

HALF DAY CAMPERS

We welcome half day campers! Morning half day is 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Afternoon half day is 12:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. Morning half day kids need to be picked up before lunch – no later than 11:30 a.m. – so they don’t get mixed up in lunchtime. Afternoon half day kids who have already eaten lunch can arrive any time after 12:00 p.m.

REGISTRATION CHANGES

If you wish to modify or cancel your registration, or apply for a credit toward another week of camp, please email Jay Losset at lossetj@gosaints.org, or call 601-487-2748. The following policies and timeline apply: 30 days or more before start of session: 100% refund, minus the $50 deposit, or full credit toward another camp session. 15 – 29 days before start of session: 50% refund, minus the $50 deposit, or full credit toward another camp session. 14 days or fewer before start of session: no refund. We will be happy to give you credit toward another camp session. Once a session begins, adjustments cannot be made.

KNOW CAMP

2016 ACADEMIC CAMPS St. Andrew’s offers a wide range of Academic camps to help keep your kid’s mind sharp over the summer months. Our Gear Up camps are open to all students who want to get a jump start on the new school year. They’re especially beneficial for new students, and those who have been referred by their teachers. Class size is limited to sixteen students per teacher. If there is additional interest, we will consider opening a second class. Please contact your child’s teacher or advisor for more information. The Reading Clinic Rising first through fourth grade students A multi-sensory structured intervention for dyslexia and reading difficulties. Alphabetic Phonics is a system developed at the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas, and is an extension of the Orton-Gillingham approach to remedial language training. The Reading Clinic teachers are certified as Alphabetic Phonics Therapists by the Payne Center in Oklahoma. They have a combined total of over 50 years teaching in the classroom.

First Grade Gear Up for Language Arts This fun and helpful camp is a great way to get your rising first grader ready for first grade reading. Students will get a jump on skills that will be covered during the first months of first grade. Get a Grip on Grammar Rising fifth through eighth grade students Basic English grammar including parts of speech, active and passive verbs, phrases, conjugations indirect and direct objects will be covered using the Framing Your Thoughts curriculum from Project READ. This curriculum honors all learning styles and provides lessons built on direct-concept teaching utilizing multi-sensory lessons. Pencil and paper not needed. Students often find it hard to believe that it is time to go home!

Sixth Grade Gear Up for English During the week, rising sixth graders will review essential grammar and writing skills. Sixth graders will practice writing expository pieces, a creative piece, and a variety of poems. 2016 ACADEMIC CAMPS Study Skills to Motivate and Maximize Student Learning Rising fifth through eighth grades Learn how to improve the ability to learn, retain and retrieve information. The aim of this course is to help students make more efficient use of study time, make learning easier, retain what is learned, and feel the work and effort involved is worthwhile. We will cover the following areas: learning styles, organizational skills, how to pay attention, active listening skills, note-taking strategies, reading comprehension, active studying (test prep and study strategies), homework, and a parent review session on Friday.

2016 ATHLETIC CAMPS St. Andrew’s Summer Sports Camps are a great way to improve your game and discover new sports to love. All camps are led by our professional coaching staff. We offer the widest variety of sports camps in the metro area. All sports camps take place at our Ridgeland campus. You don’t have to be a St. Andrew’s Student to attend! Archery Camp I Rising fourth through sixth grades This camp will help the budding archer sharpen their bow skills. All Sports Camp for Boys Rising first through seventh grade boys Boys will be led in a variety of sports by several members of the St. Andrew’s Coaching Staff. Campers will be grouped by age and will compete in the following sports: basketball, baseball, dodgeball, kickball, soccer, frisbee golf, volleyball, hand tennis/wall ball and various tag games. The camp will utilize most of the St. Andrew’s Athletic Facilities on the North Campus and will let the campers spend all day interacting with these coaches and upper school athletes. Campers will need to wear comfortable tennis shoes and athletic clothing. Bring a lunch and water bottle. Water will be provided. Be sure and sign up for a week of FUN!

Tennis Camp - Beginner and Intermediate Rising kindergarten through fifth grades This camp offers tennis instruction for beginner and intermediate level students. Little Saints Spirit Camp Rising kindergarten through fourth grades The Little Saints Spirit Camp offers girls an opportunity to find out what it’s like to be a cheerleader or dancer. 2016 SPECIALTY CAMPS St. Andrew’s offers many additional camps that cover a range of subjects and interests outside traditional sports and academic camps. These fill up fast, so don’t delay. As with all of our camps, you don’t have to be a St. Andrew’s student to attend. Camps are listed below in date order. Typing at the Speed of Thought Rising fourth through eighth grades Join us for a keyboarding short course designed to help students with proper keyboarding skills to help them become more proficient in using QWERTY keyboards. Middle School teacher Jan Michael will introduce you to the home keys, proper hand position, alternate keystrokes and some common keyboard shortcuts, all while encouraging students to develop speed and accuracy in keyboarding. Each week-long session is a standalone class. Feel free to register for more than one session, if desired.

Energizing Ideas with Snap Circuits Rising first through fourth grades Energy is the “stuff” of life! Your child will be introduced to potential and kinetic energy and how we use both. They will discover how circuits transport that energy into making various things work, run and fly. They will create simple circuits on day 1. They will explore how we can speed the flow of energy up and slow it down. They will discover what can happen when we add energy sources together. Day 2 will introduce them to receivers and resistors while they create light shows. On day 3 they will build a Snap Circuit Rover and explore how gears work as they cruise around the upper school campus.

2016 SPECIALTY CAMPS Active Learning Services Camps: USA Chess Camps For ages five and up Active Learning Services presents USA Chess, the largest and premier chess camp organizer for children in the United States. Their staff is comprised of the finest children’s chess instructors in North America. Campers experience chess instruction and play in a fun-filled environment designed to improve their skills whether they are interested in casual or competitive chess. Manners Matter — A Fun and Exciting Etiquette Course Rising PK4 through third grades The Manners Matter course is designed to encourage and emphasize good manners in today’s busy society. We have new material for any students who attended previously. Some topics to be discussed and promoted will be: respect, responsibility, posture, personal hygiene, giving and receiving compliments, manners for all social occasions with special emphasis on table manners, meeting and greeting, healthy eating choices, handling difficult situations and much more. The class concludes with dinner at Amerigo in Ridgeland on Wednesday night.

2016 SPECIALTY CAMPS The Nutcracker Ballet Camp Rising PK3 through second grades This fall, boys and girls enrolled in ballet classes offered through the Lower School Enrichment Program will present a shortened version of the ballet, “Nutcracker”. On Tuesday, November 15, 2016, there will be two performances of the “Nutcracker”. The first performance, at 8:30 a.m., will be for the Lower School students. The second performance, at 5:30 p.m., will be for family and friends. During this Summer course, students will begin rehearsing dances for this performance. Students entering PK3 will have parts depicting the Winter season. PK4 and kindergarten students will be the “cooks”, who prepare “sweets” in The Land of the Sweets. Students entering first and second grades will be “mice and soldiers” in the “Battle Scene”. Attire: shorts and a t-shirt or leotard, pink ballet shoes for girls, black ballet shoes for boys.
