TZU CHI HUMANISTIC YOUTH CENTRE

THE ACLIX

POP UP EXHIBIT

TZU CHI HUMANISTIC YOUTH CENTRE

I named the stall the Aclix as it means exuberance, which suggests that the environment created will be full of energy, excitement, and cheerfulness. Thus, I felt that it suited the purpose of what I was designing.

CONCEPT Incorporating a contemporary style into the design help depicts and describe the social and current relevant issues. I felt that this ties back to Tzu Chi “s values and views about a particular issue, “ SUSTAINABILITY”. In this case, Tzu Chi focuses on how the people will be impacted and how it can nurture sustainable practices in them. As Tzu Chi values sustainability, designing the stall in a contemporary style will do.

SITE ANALYSIS

This analysis is crucial as it plays a huge part later on in this project where we have to decide where the stalls will be placed, Not only having to design in a way where it has to fit the space appropriately. Spatial tension is needed to know how big or small each pop-up stall has to be.

The site is oriented the way that it is to capture the morning sun on the side of the building with the row of glass doors and windows, which allows the most light to enter without being too hot. This is also to enable minimal lights to be turned on during the day, to promote sustainability.

POP UP EXHIBIT

DESIGN STATEMENT

To create a zero–market value of a sustainable lifestyle. The market will be designed in a contemporary style that will make an impactful space, allowing users to unplug themselves and be mindful and focused on sustainable thinking and practices. In addition, this inviting space will nourish the community by raising awareness and its importance, leaving them with a beautiful experience.

POP UP EXHIBIT

USED FOR SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE PRODUCTS

The different lightings used on this stall are more towards the spectrum of warmer tones. The warm colours then come together, helping achieve a cosy and peaceful environment that mildly affects our mood. The warm lighting feels more natural and helps promotes relaxation.

FORM

This analysis is crucial as it plays a huge part later on in this project where we have to decide where the stalls will be placed, Not only having to design in a way where it has to fit the space appropriately. Spatial tension is needed to know how big or small each pop-up stall has to be.

This layout of the stall has quite a fair bit of negative space. Instead of leaving the booth completely open, I closed one of the sides with a rod that has a banner hanging on it, which also acts as a partition, creating a more intimate environment.

CONSTRUCTION & DETAIL PORTABILITY Castor wheels carry the whole stall, thus making it easily movable and transportable.

ADAPTABILITY The stall can be adaptable. The drawers allow the vendor to place items according to the site’s constraints.

SPATIAL LIMITATION Stalls are designed in modular systems to fit in tight and narrow places. These stalls can be combined with other stall modules too.

TEMASEK AVIaTION ACADEMY

Designing a space that has a futuristic ,bold and a modern feel to it. The space will be designed to spark the student’s curiosity and allow them to visualize aspects of the space in a newfound perspective”.

DESIGN STATEMENT

temasek aviation academy

concept STATEMENT

I am using darker shades and bold forms to help emphasize the futuristic characteristics of the design. I am implementing angular elements to suit the modern characteristics of the form and incorporating various lighting technics and modern technology to bring out the futuristic aspect of this building. Adding touches of climatic elements into the structure will alleviate the immersive experience and intrigue aviation students’ curiosity.

about the site Location: 31A Tampines Ave 1, Singapore 529768 Temasek Polytechnic West Wing Block 25A

Programme: Flight training only diploma course in Singapore incorporates a 12-month flying programme as part of the “Aeronautical Science” option. You can take flying lessons at the Singapore Youth Flying Club and earn a Private Pilot Licence (PPL).

Authentic learning experience Students get authentic learning experiences, such as the chance to participate in the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) trial for the new Seletar Airport passenger terminal and the Changi Airport emergency simulation dubbed “Exercise BobCat”.

SUN ORIENTATION Orientation of the building align along the prevailing wind building orientation can provide views of Bedok reservoir

The orientation of the building suggests the building entrance is facing against the north The Winter solstice is labelled as the blue sun path, while the red sun path suggests the summer solstice.

SUN PATH DIAGRAMS How it relates to the current site? Sun orientations are crucial when designing a building—having to know which directions the natural light so that opportunities can be made to allow natural lighting into the building.

Sun rises on the east of the site Natural sunlight brightens up the entrance and corridors

As the roof has solar panels, sun at 12pm would be best for it to generate energy

As the sun is setting, shadow casted from the building act as a shade for people entering from the main entrance

temasek aviation academy

WIND @ SITE How it relates to the current site? This information was needed so that I could determine how to design the building so that it gets proper ventilation and proper airflow within the interiors of the form. Besides these, it would also help me gauge where I could put possible openings and views.

As east of the building is surrounding by other buildings, wind generally come from the north- west and south of the building

Temasek aviation academy why birds ? The word aviation originates from the word AVIS, which means bird, as the aviation industry continues to look for inspiration from Birds. They continue to study how birds fly, use that same knowledge, and apply it back to their industry. So that is why I want to use bird wings as an inspiration to design the Aviation building.

I wanted to incorporate angular elements into architecture. Still, instead of using the usual angular features, I thought to integrate the bird component and the study of flight into my design. MATERIAL BOARD

skyfall SPACE THAT ULEASHES ALL POSIBLITIES OF FLIGHT

SPACE THAT ULEASHES ALL POSIBLITIES OF FLIGHT Skyfall was designed to alleviate the experience of flight, similarly to how it takes off. Each platform is raised at different heights to increase the spatial experience one can get. Skyfall aims to create an experience where users feel as if they are floating. Each platform is connected to another to develop a spatial hierarchy.

SPACE THAT ULEASHES ALL POSIBLITIES OF FLIGHT These platforms are also meant to spark curiosity within the student's mind and show the limitless possibilities of flight experience. Lush greenery is placed to soften the mood and ambience of the space, providing them with a comfortable and therapeutic play. Students will be able to view different climatic elements within this area.

A CLASSROOM SIMULATING AN ACTUAL AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL ROOM

sky

control

Sky control is a double volume integrated lab/classroom. It has been designed to simulate an actual air traffic control room. It has digital screens that can be programmed to show the view outside. It also can be programmed to display a real-life airport etc. This will provide a much richer experience for the students.

FALLEN BUNKER

"The Indominous rex. Our first genetically modified hybrid"

"Welcome To Jurassic World"

Jurassic

This was a project given to us, and we were tasked to create a 6x6 metre space. So I thought to do something unique. Hence, I challenged myself in creating an unusual space like this. The renders on the left are done on software called Lumion.

bunker world

This whole model was designed and crafted in software called 3Ds Max. It was challenging to create and detail certain features such as the ceiling, grid mesh, and railings. In overall, this is a project that has sharpened my skills.

YOUNG DESIGNER AWARD COMPETITION

The house was designed towards the theme of dark luxury with the incorporation of natural elements and natural touches throughout the minimal and sleek modern design. Though most family homes tend to be warmer and brighter tones, we have decided to go for a darker take as this design approach suits our group's style. The luxury elements come in sleek and minimalist furniture.
