Since the early 1960’s, quality hand made lighting products have been designed and developed by Elstead Lighting. It’s origins date back to 1686 when it was founded as the village forge in Elstead, Surrey and served the local townsfolk as the village blacksmith. The picture above shows the original forge which was used right up until the end of the early 1970’s and today the factory continues to offer products that exude hand crafted quality and tradition. The modern Elstead Lighting specialises in the design and manufacture of products that blend quality and style, whether they are classic or contemporary in appearance. Based in the heart of the Hampshire countryside in Alton, England, the company employs more than 80 staff over two sites and uses modern methods and machinery alongside the original hand crafted skills handed down over the years. Elstead Lighting products can now be found worldwide, from homes to hotels, restaurants to parks, bringing style and quality wherever they can be seen.

The Interior Range A comprehensive collection encompassing many types and styles, including contemporary and traditional designs, flush fittings, pendants and bathroom fittings. Many of these ranges are exclusively designed and manufactured in-house. Elstead are a member of ACID (anti-copying in design) and as such all of our own creations are registered designs. We place a strong emphasis on detail and quality in our products. Traditional skills in ironwork and intricate hand painted finishes set our products apart and make our fittings highly individual. Cut glass, hand made Venetian glass and 30% lead crystal are some of the high quality components used to help finish our fittings, so that they enhance any situation in which they are placed.

Aegean

The stylish Aegean family features hand forged scrolls accented by cut glass droplets and sconces and is finished in a highly Polished Nickel plating or a Polished Brass finish. Compromising of one wall and two ceiling lights which are flush convertable, the Aegean fittings will add style to both contemporary and classical settings.

Another range exclusively designed by Elstead, the stylish yet simple Zonda family features hand cut glass highlighted by the high quality Polished Nickel finish. Each fitting includes the unique candle lamp effect glasses and come supplied complete with G9 lamps, with some fittings shown using the optional LS163 shades. HAMPSTEAD

The striking Hampstead range blends classic style with contemporary lines to produce a distinctive looking family. Featuring silk effect shades with metal embellishments, supplied with the fittings as standard, the Hampstead range is available in either an Old Bronze finish or in Polished Nickel. The ceiling lights are telescopic to adapt to lower ceilings.

Richmond

A fine, hand crafted solid brass fitting in a contemporary style, the Richmond range features triplex opal glass shades and is supplied in a fine Polished Nickel plated finish.

FINSBURY PARK

The classic Finsbury Park family is a traditionally handmade series featuring hand cut glass droplets with cut glass sconces. Using many components in cast brass, this solid range of fittings is available in either an Old Bronze finish or in Polished Nickel. Some fittings are shown with optional LS162 hand made shades with the ceiling lights convertible to semi flush. The two Lanterns are telescopic and allow height adjustment for lower ceilings.

The stunning Pimlico range is a beautifully crafted family of products using fine square tube unusually curved on its edge. Using Brass as its main constituent, the Pimlico features fine cut glass sconces and droplets to accent either the Polished Nickel or Dark Bronze finishes.

Guildhall

The classic Highbury range takes its influence from the 1930â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s with a contemporary twist and is a heavy cast range made using the finest materials. Featuring fine cut glass crystal drops and sconces, this family is available in either an Old Bronze finish or in Polished Nickel and some fittings are pictured with the optional LS162 lampshades. The ceiling fittings are telescopic to adapt to lower ceilings.

Using Georgian design cues, the stylish Guildhall range is an elegant period lantern and wall light, ideal for entrances, hallways and rooms that have original influences. These models are available in a choice of finishes including Polished Brass, Polished Nickel and an antiqued Dark Bronze.

PROVENCE

PICTURE LIGHTS A simple range of plain but elegant iron picture lights manufactured by hand. With elements like elegantly detailed back plates and wire bindings, these stylish two sizes of picture lights are offered in either Black or Black/ Gold finishes.

The style of the Provence is taken from French designs of the mid 1900’s where they were commonly used to light tables in Kitchens, Café’s and Bistros. Using a Rise and Fall system, the height can be easily changed in situ to suit a variety of applications. The Provence is offered in Antique Brass, Old Bronze and Polished Nickel finishes.

This series of polished chrome fittings have their designs based on classic and contemporary bathroom suites, making them versatile enough to fit in with many of the bathroom styles available today. Some models include three semi flush ceiling lights which have telescopic centre rods, allowing them to suit both low and medium ceiling heights.

This stylish range of products have been specifically designed for use in the bathroom environment, although they can of course be used elsewhere within the home. Offering a choice of both classic and contemporary styles, these fittings will add style and elegance to any bathroom setting. All of these products are IP44 rated, which is the water ingress rating required in section 701 of the BS7671 wiring regulations for bathroom lighting, making them suitable for Zones 1 and 2.

The commonest type of lamp in general use, it comes in a variety of shapes and wattages, and a variety of styles. Examples are clear, pearl, opal, softlight, candle, golfball, strip, mushroom and of course the common GLS or general lighting service pear shaped lamp. These lamps are cheap to replace, compact and give a warm yellowish light. Most interior and many exterior light fittings are designed to use this type of lamp. However, in modern light source terms, these are renowned as the least efficient lamps in terms of light output relative to energy consumed.

Incandescent lamps are identified mainly by their shape, wattage and cap type. The main cap types are bayonet (BC) or Edison screw (ES) and these are further identified by size by adding ‘s’ in front to denote ‘small’. This gives us SBC B15, small bayonet; BC B22, bayonet; SES E14, small Edison screw; and ES E27, Edison screw.

Halogen A high brightness lamp which gives a whiter light than an incandescent lamp and in many cases about twice as much light for the same wattage. In addition, halogen lamps will last between 3 and 8 times as long as an equivalent incandescent lamp, depending on the type of lamp, the fitting and how often the lamp is switched on and off. Halogen lamps are found in both mains and low voltage versions, and come in basically 3 types for indoor lighting, although there are many other types in use in outdoor lighting. Indoor types are normally either dichroic (spotlight), capsule or halogen replacements for GLS lamps. These all come in a range of wattages to suit various applications. Halogen replacement lamps, often referred to as “Halogena” or “Halolux” are identified by their wattages and cap type, in the same way as the GLS lamps that they replace.

Caution should be used when replacing an incandescent lamp with a halogen lamp unless the manufacturer has specifically advised it as an alternative. This is because the halogen lamps are available in higher wattages and also run at much higher temperatures. Dichroic and capsule lamps can only be used in fittings designed to take them. They are referred to by their codes, as follows.

Please note – caution should be used when handling halogen lamps as they can get very hot. In addition the glass envelope of capsule lamps should not be touched with bare fingers, even when fitting the lamp, as this can lead to premature failure of the lamp.

Compact Fluorescent A low energy alternative to incandescent lighting, these lamps produce up to 5 times the light for the same power, and generally last up to ten times as long. Normally slightly more bulky than a standard incandescent lamp but advancing technology is reducing this handicap rapidly. They come in 2 basic types. Firstly, those that can be fitted directly into a standard lamp holder as a direct replacement for an incandescent lamp. This type has its own electronics fitted inside the base. Secondly, those that require a special lamp holder, generally 2 or 4 pin, and require separate ballasts to drive the lamp. These versions are more efficient than the integral gear models. These lamps have many advantages especially in locations where lights are left on for long periods. The options of light they give can be whiter than an incandescent lamp and they render colours more accurately, whilst running at a much cooler temperature and consuming considerably less electricity.

Discharge Lamps Predominately used for outdoor lighting, these lamps give the maximum lighting efficiency and lamp life. However, they do require fairly bulky special electronics to drive them and they are not often suited to the normal domestic environment. There is a very wide range of discharge lighting available, but Elstead Lighting normally only supply 3 types. These are Sodium (SON) Mercury (MBF) and Metal Halide (HQI/HCI).

INFORMATION

General Fittings

1. Finishes. Many of the finishes used on these ranges are hand applied (patinated) and some small variations and irregularities in the finish are to be expected. This is part of the process of manufacture and, far from being a problem, is an important part of the nature of hand made and hand finished items. 2. Lamp Types. Most fittings are now designed to take either E14 lamps; small Edison screw, sometimes referred to as SES, or E27 lamps; standard Edison screw, sometimes referred to as ES. These lamps are widely available in a range of styles and wattages to suit all applications. Many of the lamp holders are now supplied with threaded skirts, together with candle tubes and shade rings. This means that these products can be used either as a fitting with candle tubes and candle lamps, or with glass using the shade ring. As a consequence, many of our previous ranges that had a separate stock product, with glass included, have now been superceded. 3. Glass. As detailed in paragraph 2, many of the ranges shown in this catalogue are shown with “optional glass”. Where this is referred to, and glass is required, please order the glass reference and quantity separately. 4. Flush Convert. Many of the interior ranges have also been modified/designed with what we call the “flush convert system.” This allows ceiling lights bought as a chain fitting to be easily converted by the customer to a semi-flush fitting. Note that once converted to semi-flush it is not then possible to easily convert back to a chain fitting, as some re-wiring will be required.

6. Interior fittings are normally only available in the specified colours for their particular range, but where the fitting is normally available in plain black, then it may be possible to supply it in one of the patinated finishes. This may delay delivery and will incur an extra charge. (See Terms and Conditions, paragraph 9)

Exterior Fittings 1. Care and Maintenance. When installing outdoor lights it is sensible to lightly grease all threaded parts to ensure that fittings can easily be disassembled for cleaning or lamp replacement. Aluminium lanterns should only be cleaned using warm water and a soft cloth, although a mild detergent may be used if fittings are heavily soiled. Care must be taken when cleaning to avoid wetting any electrical parts. The power should always be turned off before attempting to clean any internal parts of the light, or changing lamps. 2. Copper and stainless steel. Many of our fittings supplied in these materials are supplied in a natural finish, i.e. unlaquered. Lights can be cleaned in the same way, using the same precautions, but note that leaving water on these surfaces can result in water marks. Copper and stainless steel finishes may show small marks from handling, which can be easily polished away if required. Polished copper and stainless steel fittings should be very lightly oiled after cleaning to extend the period before the surface will need to be polished again. The alternative is to allow the surface to age and weather naturally, which does no harm to the fitting. 3. Finishes. Many of the finishes used on these ranges are hand applied, and some small variations and irregularities in the finish are to be expected. This is part of the process of manufacture and, far from being a problem, is an important part of the nature of hand made and hand finished items. Exterior fittings can be supplied in Black, White, Black/Gold, Green/Gold and Verdigris finishes only. Where these finishes are not specified as standard for the range in question it may be possible to still offer these colours (except white) as a special order. This may delay delivery and will incur an extra charge. 4. Light Sources. Most exterior fittings are designed to take standard E27 GLS lamps, and many can also take low energy electronic compact fluorescent lamps where there is sufficient space. As an option the company is able to offer Sodium, Metal Halide or Mercury conversions on certain ranges. Some styles may require remote housings for the special gear, but most lamp-posts may be easily converted. Suitable ranges for conversion are Chelsea, Chelsea Grande, Turin Grande, Seville Grande, Valencia Grande, Grampian and Wilmslow.

The guarantee does NOT cover: • Products that have been damaged, repainted or cleaned with any aggressive cleaner • Any costs incurred for either removal or replacement • Any products situated within 4 miles of a coastline - Does not apply to Norlys products.

Approvals All products within this catalogue need to conform with the European Union Low Voltage Directive. This is achieved by ensuring that all products conform to the relevant parts of BS EN 60.598-1-2000, the product standard for luminaires. Every luminaire is individually tested by us to ensure that the product is electrically sound and meets the Company’s quality standards. A unique code is then attached to the fitting. We are manufacturing members of the Lighting Association and conform with all aspects of The Lighting Association Code of Practice for luminaire production, for which we are annually inspected. The company’s quality systems are also audited regularly to ensure continuing conformity to the various standards.

The corner brackets shown are all designed for use with our ranges of Outdoor Lanterns. Please refer to the dimension table on each product page to see the appropriate Corner Bracket to be used. (Not all models have a corner bracket available). The LP60 (60W E27) Tubolux and LP100 (100W E27 - not available in some EU countries) Normalux lamps are manufactured particularly for use in lanterns, giving an attractive gas/filament look. Also available is LP30 (30W E27) which is used for interior and display use.
