OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances) The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

A warm welcome to Chepstow for our Mothering Sunday at the Races.
As well as lots of mums, we are delighted to welcome around 2500 students here today from universities across the region.
We will also be selecting the Best Dressed Mum during the day with prizes up for grabs! Our team of spotters will be looking out for potential winners.
I would like to thank Cazoo for their race sponsorship this afternoon.
We have a busy programme of race days coming up with Easter Monday Family Day on April 10th and for Dragon Bet Grand National Race Day on Saturday 15th April we will be operating a huge sweepstake for all customers to participate in.
One new event we have just launched is Abba Race Night on Saturday 10th June. Later this summer we are working in partnership with Live Nation for three great outdoor concerts – Lionel Richie on Friday 30th June, Lewis Capaldi on Saturday 1st July and George Ezra on Sunday 2nd July – tickets are available from Ticketmaster
On a personal note, I have taken a role as Regional Director South West for ARC and will now oversee Chepstow, Hereford, Ffos Las and Worcester. As a result, we are recruiting for a new Executive Director/General Manager at Chepstow Anyone interested in applying can email me at (pbell@arenaracingcompany.co.uk).
Our next fixture is Thursday 23rd March. Have a great day at Chepstow today and I look forward to welcoming you back for another event.

RACE SUMMARY
Dan Skelton’s SAIL AWAY hasn’t been seen out since gaining his breakthrough success at Warwick last May but goes well fresh so is taken to make light of his absence. In Excelsis Deo fluffed his lines at Warwick but had looked a good prospect prior to that so is feared most.
