WELCOME
The concept of a“Ladies Day”in horse racing stretches back two centuries, referring to certain dates in the calendar when wives were specifically encouraged to attend the racecourse with their husbands
In Victorian times, they would naturally wear their finest clothes for any society occasion and, though conventions and attitudes have changed significantly since then, the tradition of a special day with high fashion is still popular in the modern age.
As we welcome you to a new Saturday evening fixture in the Royal Windsor calendar, tonight we retain the flavour of the past by featuring a fun competition offering prizes for outstanding sartorial elegance as decided by the Style Award judges.
Looking further ahead, after a short break this week, we quickly return to our traditional Monday evening slot in nine days’time (7 August) headlined as Rocketman at the Races, celebrating the music of Elton John, followed by Soul & Motown on 14 August.
Then, on Thursday 17 August, we are delighted to stage a valuable evening’s entertainment in the Racing League, when trainers and jockeys take part in the third leg of the highly competitive but lighthearted annual team tournament.
Tickets for all future meetings are available from our website, windsor-racecourse.co.uk, with many bargains on offer for early bookings As the main summer programme of 2023 heads towards its final month, we hope to see you again soon at Royal Windsor Racecourse.
Best wishes,
Liam Johnson Executive Director

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
