Star Ratings Explained
Each horse is given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race HHHHI Good chance of being placed HHHII By no means without a chance
HHIII At least one or two hold stronger claims HIIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope IIIII Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this, your bet will not be accepted

STORM MELODY needs to bounce back following several below-par efforts but he’s of strong interest back on the all-weather, particularly now returned to this venue. Indeed, his sole previous visit here resulted in a C&D success in February, and that was off a 2lb higher mark. Secret Potion put in a good shift in a higher-grade handicap at Newbury last time and is feared most ahead of Blue Cable. 1-2-3: 1.STORM MELODY 2.SECRET POTION 3.BLUE CABLE KEY colours

She actually wasn’t beaten that far at Bath latest and is now 6lb below the mark off which she went agonisingly close over C&D in March. The vote goes to PUCHITA, who has slipped to a handy mark and left the distinct impression that her turn is near when a close third off this mark over C&D last time, Fast Moon’s latest effort at Newbury was underwhelming, but he performed well here on his reappearance and is a player on that evidence. KEEPER didn’t beat much in a handicap at Brighton 3 weeks ago but he had plenty in hand and could still be ahead of his mark with further progress on the way. Imperial Sun is also open to improvement with the step up in trip likely to suit, while it would come as no surprise if Midfield fared much better on her handicap bow/return given her profile.
