launches new corporate identity focused on
water instinct concept Global swimwear brand arena has launched a rebranding project to redefine its corporate identity based around its trademark water instinct concept. The main elements of the undertaking, which include restyling of the three-diamond logo along with reshaping the corporate identity, will be unveiled in 2016 in concert with the company’s build-up to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The first milestone in the initiative is the production of a brand manifesto video that will be showcased at multiple venues during the upcoming FINA World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia, from 24 July – 9 August, 2015. The video, which features Olympic and World Champions Chad Le Clos of South Africa and Rūta Meilutytė of Lithuania, was produced in partnership with branding agency FutureBrand, who created the video concept, Filmmaster Productions, who produced it, and director Federico Brugia. “Water is part of our DNA, you could say we live it and breathe it every day,” said arena CEO, Cristiano Portas. “Over the course of more than 40 years, we’ve built a brand that is known for its technological innovation, and created a product development process that integrates athletes to make sure we’re producing what our customers need and want. And we do it for all lovers of watersports – from the champion to the beginner and everyone in between. The last few years have seen arena climb to the highest point in its history, in all spheres – results on the world’s biggest stages, financial performance, product excellence, and collaboration with sport’s leading bodies and federations. We feel it’s now time to communicate this message to the world through our brand messaging, to consolidate and strengthen our standing at the pinnacle of aquatic sport, to reach all lovers of watersports and let them know we’re in it for them, for the long haul. You can call it commitment, desire, the drive to be the best, but at arena we know it by a simple phrase – water instinct.”
4
The video will be produced in four languages – Italian, Spanish, English, French and German – and three formats: 30 seconds, 60 seconds, and 1 minute 40 seconds. TV airings are scheduled during the World Championships in Kazan, after which it will play on social media channels during major aquatics events. In the weeks leading up to Kazan, arena’s Facebook channel will contain video interviews with a number of the brand’s champions on their personal water instinct concept, including Le Clos, Meilutytė, Ranomi Kromowidjojo (Netherlands), Gregorio Paltrinieri (Italy), Cameron Van Der Burgh (South Africa) and Swedish diver Daniella Nero. arena outsourced the rebranding initiative to FutureBrand, a creative company involved in global branding consultancy and innovation. A part of the Interpublic Group, FutureBrand combines traditional branding and the ability to imagine future scenarios in over 20 markets around the world, employing a mix of strategic thinking and creativity to help global enterprises build and manage their brands. “When I first started working with Arena I was amazed by the passion and the dedication that motivates everybody in the company,” said Gianni Tozzi, FutureBrand’s Creative Director on the video project. “This is a brand that works really closely with its champions and deeply cares for them to become the best in the world, to realize their dreams and their full potential. At the same time, the same passion and effort is embedded at every level, on all disciplines that revolve around water sports. This is where we started when we decided to relaunch the concept of “water instinct”, and the film is the main touchpoint of this project. We wanted to portray the incredible bond that everybody holds with water, from kids, to amateur to the best in class champions, and how arena is truly part of this journey, animated by the same spirit and dedicated to innovation at every level.” The video was produced by Filmmini, the unit able to offer a flexible, agile and a crossmedia model of international award-winning Filmmaster Productions, the market leader in advertising production, and was directed by renowned music video and commercial director, Federico Brugia, working exclusively for Filmmaster Productions.

blocks ARENA LEADS THE WAY WITH STEALTH, STYLE AND SPEED For over 40 years arena has developed a reputation for excellence by consistently breaking new ground while simultaneously upholding an unyielding commitment to quality. In 2012 the company reinforced this reputation with the debut of the revolutionary carbon cage technology, which made emphatic statements at both the London Olympics and 2013 World Championships in Barcelona. Since then, the technology has taken further strides forward in parallel with innovation on the equipment side and continued backing of the legacy Powerskin range. Together these paths have converged to produce the most complete, state-of-the-art range of racing swimwear for today’s swimming champions.
Powerskin Carbon-Pro (2012):
Arena’s carbon technology burst on to the scene at the London Olympics, introducing the swimming world to the groundbreaking concept of Intelligent Compression – when critical stretch levels kick in, the carbon thread framework locks down like a seatbelt, giving maximum compression when and where it’s needed, without compromising freedom of movement. In addition to this advantage, athletes can also draw on the extra boost of the Power Return System, which delivers unparalleled “spring back” power on each dive, kick, and turn through special elasticized internal tapes. Finally, the inherent strength and stiffness of carbon also ensures that the swimsuit won’t tear or suffer surface damage, even when it’s stretched to the limit. Carbon-Pro’s Olympic debut in London featured a special edition for the Games symbolizing the technology’s power with red flames on a grey-cell background, as swimmers wearing the new suit won 8 individual gold medals in the pool, sweeping the breaststroke events with Rebecca Soni, Cameron van der Burgh and Daniel Gyurta setting four world records between them. Ranomi Kromowidjojo also excelled with the freestyle sprint double in new Olympic record time, and Chad Le Clos thrilled the Aquatics Centre with his last-touch victory over Michael Phelps in 200 fly. A year later at the World Championships in Barcelona, the Carbon-Pro sported a striking camouflage design, returning 13 individual world titles in the pool, with Katinka Hosszú doing the IM double, Chad Le Clos claiming the 100 and 200 fly titles, and arena swimmers winning 3 of the 4 freestyle sprints.
8
9
Powerskin Carbon-Flex (2014):
The second-generation Carbon-Flex introduced the V-Flex System, which offers the swimmer greater flexibility around the hips, glutes, and shoulders thanks to strategic placement of the suit’s seams. This also helps to keep the legs high in the water during freestyle, and to keep the knees from dropping during breaststroke and butterfly. At the same time, the athlete still benefits from carbon technology’s core features, Intelligent Compression and the Power Return System.
Powerskin Carbon-Flex World Championship Edition (2015):
Between them the Carbon-Flex and CarbonPro continued to up the stakes at major events, winning 21 individual gold medals in the pool at arena’s greatest-ever European Championships in Berlin 2014. Standout performances came from Adam Peaty (50 & 100 breaststroke gold, with a new 50m breaststroke world record), Gregorio Paltrinieri (800 & 1500 freestyle gold, with a new 1500 European record), and Katinka Hosszú (200 & 400 IM and 100 backstroke gold, with both IM victories in new championship record times). Having debuted at the European Championships, the Carbon-Flex Limited Edition – in sophisticated anthracite black with vibrant magenta detailing – brightened up the year-end’s World Short Course Championships in Doha, where the carbon family once again excelled with 19 individual gold medals in the pool. In a stunning championship accomplishment, Katinka Hosszú broke world records in each one of her four world title swims (100 & 200 backstroke, 100 & 200 IM), while Sarah Sjöström (200 free & 100 fly world records, 50 fly championship record) and Chad Le Clos(100 fly world record, 50 & 200 fly championship records, and 200 free gold) also produced remarkable performances.
An exclusive production to showcase the Carbon range against the backdrop of the year’s premier swimming event, the World Championship Edition incorporates updates to the blueprint of the original Carbon-Flex based on feedback received from athletes over the past year. In addition to bold new fluo green/steel grey colour combinations, strategic placement of the seams on women’s suits anchors tension at the back center, allowing swimmers to leverage their strokes and kicks, while for men’s jammers the absence of taped seams along the waistline eliminates disturbances and stress points on the waist, resulting in exceptional fit and feel.
Powerskin Carbon-Air (2015):
Intelligent compression meets comfort in the Carbon family’s latest hi-performance suit. Horizontal carbon bands are woven through an ultra-lightweight fabric to provide a lighter form of Comfortable Compression, helping to improve swimmer performance without compromising the suit’s unbeatable comfort. SmartStretch shoulder straps in women’s styles reduce tension on the shoulders, offering a unique form of “intelligent stretching”, and the smart simplicity of the design gives the suit a sleek construction with complete freedom of movement, making it exceptionally easy to put on. The result is a cutting edge racing suit that is unmatched for sheer comfort.
Available in striking electric blue and fuschia versions, the Carbon-Air made strong impressions in tests conducted in Europe and the US with national and collegiate squads, eliciting glowing feedback that more than substantiated the benefits of the suit’s features.
10
Powerskin R-Evo+ (OPEN WATER):
Originally launched as arena’s first post-hi tech range of textile competition suits, the latest R-Evo+ generation is made from a superior woven fabric featuring low-profile bonded seams, and offers the swimmer superb stability, body alignment, and the smoothest glide through water. Its five-star performance and comfort has made the R-Evo+ Open Water the swimsuit of choice amongst the world’s leading open water swimmers.
In London 2012, the R-Evo+ Open Water dominated the podium, with Elite Team members Oussama Mellouli, Thomas Lurz and Richard Weinberger taking gold-silverbronze in the men’s race, and at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona, the suit was worn by 50 out of 60 entrants. For the pool, a bold new electric blue and yellow version was developed in 2014, powering Elite Team swimmer Hannah Miley of Scotland to a new 400 IM Commonwealth Games record in Glasgow.
Cobra goggles (2010):
Comfort and security combine in these hi-tech watertight goggles for elite racing. An innovative temple design provides superior stability, keeping the goggles firmly in place throughout the race, starting with the initial dive when stability is most important. Smooth entry into the water is enhanced by low-profile anti-fog hard lenses, which also afford secure eye protection and crystal-clear, undistorted vision. The goggle’s perfect seal reinforces the stable fit and offers exceptional hydrodynamic performance.
Cobra Ultra goggles (2015):
Hydrodynamic design, stable fit and optimum vision come together in the Cobra Ultra to produce the ultimate in racing goggles. The focus on high-level performance is immediately obvious – the goggles’ blade shape, curvature of the low-profile lenses, overmoulded temples and gaskets, and single-body design all combine to facilitate the smoothest possible glide of the head through water … without the threat of leaking. Crystal-clear visibility is optimized both head-on and laterally, allowing swimmers to look ahead without lifting their neck and to the side without turning their head, giving them the best possible view of the pool and their competition. Interchangeable nose bridges, a dual silicone strap, and an RFA back clip round out the design to ensure that there’s also no compromise on comfort, stability, and versatility. No less important, the goggles’ sleek, sharp form and numerous striking colour combinations – from black elegance to shocking pink, deep blue to lime green, and a host of mirrored lens shades – make a truly bold statement that immediately distinguishes the athlete from their competition. In a word, they’re ultra-cool.

My computer. I travel a lot for competition and training camps and while I traveling, I hate not being able to be involved in my company back home. My computer allows me to stay involved in everything, so the company can continue to take steps forward in its development while I travel. Not to mention it’s pretty nice to be ableto watch a movie or TV show and just mentally take a break during competitions.

Becoming the Iron Lady was probably one of the most important moments of my career. Since then it has been very important for me to rememberwhy I am the Iron Lady, and what that means for me. The Iron Lady logo always helps to remind me not to be afraid to fail, to push the limits and to challenge myself. Shane, knowing how much it means to me, actually got it tattooed on his left bicep, which he always flexes for me right before I race.

My whole family and also Shane’s have always been so supportive of my career and goals, so it has always been great to know they are there for me no matter what happens. Hungary has also been amazing in its support, it’s fan tastic to get to represent the country, and people always go out of their way to let me know how proud they are. Knowing that support system is there really gives me the comfort to go out and try to push myself to the max, because I know if I fail they will still be there supporting me.

Shane always tells me right before it’s game time to simply have fun, be aggressive and do what I do best, just go race! He also always ends his pep talk telling me that he will be proud of me no matter what, and that if I give it everything I have and I come in last, he is still proud of me!

The one
1.
thing
you can’t leave home without:

Pr f l o i es
I usually have an iPad and an iPhone with me, and also a couple of books. They help to distract me and obviously to stay in touch with all the people that can’t follow me during a competition. I also never leave home without a pashmina scarf!
2.
Most important personal
motivation
for competition:
Thanks to experience I’m able to arrive at a big competition with the right amount of confidence. I always feel a little pressure, and I think that is pretty normal, but if I’ve done my preparation work well I have the necessary confidence to enjoy the competition, regardless of the final result.
3.
message Most significant
from home:
After many years of tough competition I’ve learnt there is always a chance to make up positions until the very end. You always need to maintain a high level of concentration, because every competition is different and has the potential to produce surprises. Work hard and perform.
4.Coach
advise:
My father, who is also my coach, usually understands when I am confident and ready for a competition. We’ve been through this many times, so when he feels that we have done everything in order to prepare, he tells me to just go and enjoy the dive. I feel very calm because I know he is the first person I will find once I get out of the pool.
