ABOUT THE SPEAKERS Dr. Mark Cochran has been Vice President for Agriculture and head of the UofA Division of Agriculture since November 2010. With more than 1,700 employees, the Division of Agriculture has faculty and facilities located on five university campuses, at five regional research and extension centers, eight branch stations and other locations across the state. Kevin Murphy is the owner and founder of Food-Chain Communications, LLC, a marketing organization devoted to helping foodchain stakeholders communicate more effectively within our modern food system. Murphy began Food-Chain Communications after a 14-year tenure at Vance Publishing Corporation Randy Veach is serving his sixth term as ArFB president. He is Arkansas Farm Bureau’s 10th president since its creation in 1935. Veach farms cotton, soybeans, rice, wheat, corn and milo in and around the community of Lost Cane near Manila. He is a third-generation farmer and farms with his wife Thelma and son Brandon. Gubernatorial Candidates Mike Ross is the Demo-
cratic candidate for governor. Ross, of Prescott, who now resides in Little Rock, is a former small business owner, state senator and six-term U.S. congressman.
Asa Hutchinson is the
Republican candidate for governor. Hutchinson, who was raised near Gravette, is a former attorney, state Republican party chairman, U.S. congressman and U.S. DEA director.

Understanding Generational Differences
Presenter: Johnna Miller, director of media & advocacy training, American Farm Bureau Federation This workshop will help you better understand generational differences that affect how people approach life, work, and volunteering. Learn to understand what motivates different generations of members to better equip your Farm Bureau to appreciate and use the diversity of talents each generation brings.
Policy Development: Nuts and Bolts
Presenter: Michelle Kitchens, ArFB Public Policy Join this workshop for a refresher on policy development. We’ll discuss how the process works and give you ideas for bringing in new points of view. We’ll also give you tips for writing resolutions. Policy is the foundation of the Farm Bureau organization. This workshop will help you get organized to host your county policy development meeting and write great policy.
Parliamentary Procedure/ Mock Board Meeting Presenter: Bobby Hall, Program Associate - Leadership Development, Parliamentarian, Community & Economic Development Department, University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service The goal of this workshop is to provide county leaders with the necessary parliamentary skills to conduct meetings and activities at the county level. This workshop will enhance abilities to recognize and implement parliamentary procedure on how to properly conduct a meeting as well as dealing with any challenges or issues that may arise. Through a mock board meeting and instruction, leaders will take away a more comprehensive knowledge of parliamentary procedure skills.
Engaging the Future
Presenters: Joe Christian, Secretary/Treasurer, Arkansas Farm Bureau; Matt Shekels, Collegiate Farm Bureau Advisor, North Arkansas College; Josh Cureton, Vice Chair State YF&R Committee and Chair of the Craighead County YF&R Committee; Grant and Heather Keenen, Co -Chairs, of the Washington County YF&R Committee and State YF&R Committee members. This session will provide four aspects of recruiting and engaging younger members. Christian will discuss how Craighead County is integrating young members into the Farm Bureau organization. Shekels, a professor, will discuss NAC Collegiate Farm Bureau’s successful strategies for increasing student participation. Cureton will discuss his efforts in advocating Farm Bureau and agriculture through speaking to local high school students. The Keenens will discuss how county YF&R committees can attract new members based on Washington County’s successes.
Social Media
Presenters: Dr. Jeff Miller, professor of agricultural communications, UofA; Steve Eddington, ArFB vice president of public relations. In this workshop, we’ll unveil Arkansas Farm Bureau’s new “Arkansas Agvocates” program. This program will give farmers and ranchers the tools they need to tell their stories over social media. Dr. Miller will also talk about the dynamics of social media and how its changing the way people communicate.
Estate Planning: Creating Your Legacy
Presenters: Sam Arnett & Quinton Smith, estate planning specialists, Arkansas Farm Bureau insurance companies Farming is a family business and, because of this, an important part of that business is preparing it for the next generation. Planning is essential to ensure your heirs can carry on the family farm. Join Farm Bureau estate planning specialists Sam Arnett and Quinton Smith in this workshop to learn how to create your legacy.
