BETTER DAY Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Fatmawati. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

Every morning, some of us is still sleeping soundly in our house, some others already doing activities, waking up and hoping for a better day. This photo was taken when the streets of Jakarta were not too crowded, it’s early in the morning. The purpose of this photo is to show that the purpose of human life is to stay alive. Every day is a new moment, another chance for us to make a better day. there are some challenges from taking this photo first is getting up early, getting up early is one of the obstacles taking this photo and at that time on the road fatmawati still doing a lot of road improvement and the construction of the MRT project so that street dust can be a little easy to irritate the eyes. then to take pictures of people who are in the vehicle need accuracy in taking focus on the picture but it is not too much of a burden because I carry a mask to cover face, as we know the air in the city of Jakarta is very bad so carrying a face mask is a thing which is very very important, back to the topic. So that I can take pictures of people who are in the vehicle I have to set the shutter speed at the right place and be more careful in controlling the focus on the lens.

48

A DEATH GAZE IN THE MORNING Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Fatmawati. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

Housewives in Jakarta love to shop for groceries in the morning, these activities are very common activities for housewives in Jakarta. That morning I saw this woman carrying her shopping bag, she was standing in a traffic light waiting for public transportation, from the beginning I saw her she was staring at me with a terrible look when I was capturing some things on the streets around me. not long after that, that woman got on the bus, I really wanted to take pictures of the gaze that she gave me but she had gone into the bus, then I pointed my camera in the direction the bus. It’s a coincidence that this woman is still staring at me with that terrible look, I don’t know what happened, did I make a mistake? or maybe because I wore a mask so the woman felt a little uncomfortable. I don’t know for sure but finally I was able to get a picture of that woman’s terrible gaze.

49

CHILDHOOD Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Kota. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

Jakarta is a densely populated city, consisting of residents with diverse cultural backgrounds and that makes Jakarta unique. That day I went to the Kota then I saw the children who were playing in front of the fence of a residential building, this place was like a resident in the city that contained local and foreign residents, what was unique about these children was that they had face like the result of an Asian married to a European, I don’t really know wether it’s true or not but clearly they are a mixed marriages born children. Finally I pulled over to say hello to them and they were very enthusiastic when I came to play with them then I took photos when they were playing, I was happy about the children because they reminded me of my childhood.

50

NOSY LITTLE KID AND HIS OLDER SISTER Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Kota. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

Playing with these children reminds me of my childhood. That day I played with them the nosy kids, they were very excited and very happy, Children act based on their hearts and imagination so it’s natural that they are very nosy. This photo depicts a nosy little brother who is pressing my bike’s horn when I’m about to leave the place and behind that kid was the older sister who wants to pull him to stop him from being nosy. Being a younger sibling cannot be separated from the supervision of the older ones, the bond between brother and sister is so beautiful to be seen like a cat and a dog, they are difficult to get along. These children did not let me leave the place and they kept holding me so that I could stay but slowly I could leave the place by waving my hand hoping that on another day we can play again.

51

SWEET SISTER FROM THE HOOD Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Kota. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

A portrait of a big sister from a nosy little brother. In an environment where the children of " Kota " are playing, this girl looks the oldest among the other children because she is always advising other children and keeping them from acting rashly. Being an older sister would be difficult especially with having a younger brother, surely someday she would become an independent woman. Her face is sweet and she is very attractive, I am sure this girl will be a beautiful woman in the future. One thing i want to get from this girl is a portrait of her sweet face but she always moves so i find it a little difficult and she often covers her face, finally I try to be more friendly and finally I get a few portraits from her face. One day we will meet again with him who will likely become a model, Hopefully nothing bad will happen to them in the future cause the environment in that area has a high crime rate and Jakarta is very vulnerable to child trafficking.

BOARDING HOUSE NEXT TO THE RAILROAD TRACKS Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Pejompongan. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

This building is a boarding house located on the edge of a railroad track in Pejompongan, Jakarta. There are two figures in this photo, these two people are busy with their own preoccupations, they don’t even care about my presence taking pictures of the building where they live, the woman below is going to the warehouse while the man above is busy playing with his cellphone, one thing that makes me curious is the inside of this boarding house, is it suitable to be a place to live, I don’t know for sure so I’m very curious. I wanted to ask the woman below but shortly after I took the picture of the building there was a train that was going to pass so I had to move away from that place. Life besides the railroad tracks makes me curious.

55

CROSSING AT NIGHT Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Fatmawati. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

One thing to note, crossing the road in the city of Jakarta is still very dangerous because the road is always full of vehicles, both day and night. At night someone’s vigilance will decrease when driving or walking so it is very dangerous if not careful. This photo shows a father who was carrying his child with his wife and they were about to cross the road, then there was a car passing from the side of the road, one thing I know that the driver in Jakarta is very lazy to be careful and step on the brakes of their vehicle, very embarrassing. Not only the driver must care but people who want to cross also need to be careful because if they are careless then it will harm themselves and others.

56

CROSSING AT DAY Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Fatmawati. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

Portraits of a mother and her child who were about to cross the road of Fatmawati, Fatmawati Street at that time was being carried out roadwork and the construction of the MRT project so that there were still many holes in the road there. This condition causes this road to become unsafe for motorists and pedestrians, especially motor vehicle users in Jakarta, the majority of them are very impatient, so after passing through the potholes they will immediately speeding and become less careful to their surroundings and this has a dangerous impact on pedestrians who want to cross.

57

BUSY ROAD & THE STREET VENDOR Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Fatmawati. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

A photo of a street vendor going to get ready to sell uduk rice on the side of the busy road, I was walking that afternoon when I saw some people carrying poles and tarpaulins to set up tents. They were very good at setting up this tent so I stood between two street poles and I took the right position and time to take pictures of their work, I think they were experienced so they were very proficient in doing the work they were doing, it was amazing to me and after they put up the tent they immediately proceeded to selling. Jakarta is famous for its roadside food, because it tends to be cheaper than food sold in restaurants, so street vendors sell well on the streets of Jakarta but be careful because not necessarily all street vendors pay attention to food hygiene.

58

OJEK DRIVER LOOKING FOR SHORTCUT Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Fatmawati. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

Ojek is one of the service options of people who want to go somewhere, the streets in Jakarta tend to be very crowded at certain times, the advantage of riding Ojek is that the driver can find a shortcut because of riding a motorcycle. shortcuts in Jakarta can be found anywhere even through small alleys can be directed to the highway, that afternoon I was in the alley in Fatmawati area, right in front of my eyes I saw a small road that was passed by motorcycle riders, the road was one of the shortcuts to avoid getting stuck in traffic jams, I wanted to get a picture of motorcyclists passing on that small road so I immediately positioned my camera on the small road and waited for them to pass.

59

THIS IS NORMAL Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Fatmawati. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

A photo of someone who was driving a motorcycle carrying two children, the youngest child he carried with his left hand and his right hand was used to control the steering wheel of his motorcycle. People who drive motorbikes with a total of three passengers are called " Tri-Cengers " this is a very normal thing in Jakarta, the majority of local people are not too concerned with safety, the most important thing is to arrive at the destination. Actually this is a shameful thing but it has become a very common thing among the people.

60

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NORMAL Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Kebayoran Lama. Jakarta. Indonesia 35mm

Oh my country, Indonesia. it contained funny people who liked to act as they pleased. This photo shows a figure of a father and his wife and daughter, they are waiting for the traffic light to pass. The position of the girl is on the front deck of the motorbike and is not given a safety helmet, this girl sits on the deck while looking around. I can not imagine that this motorbike is running, which is clearly very dangerous for the safety of her daughter, regardless of their safety, the most important thing is to reach the destination. Very embarrasing, and the bad thing is that this is very, very normal among the people.

61

EVERYDAY Genre Date Location Format

Street 2018 Fatmawati. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

Leave home early to work to support the family, sleepy eyes, body still feels weak, head still feels dizzy, the most important thing is not obstructed by road congestion, because congestion makes things twice as bad. Every morning like this, all that is desired is to quickly get to the office to meet with relatives and fight together through the same days just like the previous day, every day, every month, every year. are we really alive?

62

ROADSIDE COFFEE SHOP Genre Date Location Format

Street, Night Photography 2018 Fatmawati. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

Working all day feels very tired, leaving the office from work to the very crowded streets of Jakarta. One thing to do is take a break from fatigue like this, until you see a coffee shop on the side of the road using a bicycle wagon with a small lamp on the side of the wagon and finally decided to buy a cup of hot coffee to relieve the day, it was not just me who was exhausted but the people here are all exhausted after a tiring day, together enjoying a cup of hot coffee while chatting. I’m grateful there’s a roadside coffee shop, can spend the night in peace before meeting tomorrow.

63

FRIDGE Genre Date Location Format

Conceptual Photography 2018 Majestik. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

I like the night before morning, the air in Jakarta is cooler than usual, that night is the night after the rain and the atmosphere is quiet. There was a sidewalk stall that was still open and I went there to buy a pack of cigarettes until I saw the refrigerator in front of the stall, that fridge illuminated the sidewalks, the air here became very cold, then suddenly a feeling of calm appeared when I saw the light that appeared from this fridge. the atmosphere inside me has also changed, I like this feeling.

64

WHAT LIES BEYOND THE MIST Genre Date Location Format

Conceptual Photography 2018 Majestik. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

Uncertain feelings always come and go, there are days when we feel happy there are days when we feel sad without any definite events, it feels strange and sometimes painful but one thing to know is that such feelings will continue to come and go and as much as possible we will get used to it because we adapt from habits. sometimes it is difficult to see and move because the feeling is like a mist, it always prevents us from moving forward but keep going forward because it will all be okay, the most important thing is that we will know what’s lies beyond the mist after we keep moving forward.

65

SMILING OJEK DRIVER Genre Date Location Format

Street Blok M. Jakarta. Indonesia Mirrorless

Indonesia is familiar with the existence of online ojek applications, the service is a service that is used by people every day through mobile applications, ranging from delivering passengers, delivering and ordering food, delivering goods and many other services and this is very very useful for people. this photo is a portrait of an ojek driver who is smiling after getting an order through his cellphone application, anyone can become a driver and join the online ojek application company and this is very open job vacancies for people who are less able to get education so they cannot work at the company. I realized that this driver was just sitting on the roadside bench until he got his order and his expression made me happy too.

68

SEA OF ENERGY Genre Date Location Format

Conceptual Photography Bali. Indonesia Mirrorless

The photo above is a portrait of a woman who was swimming in the ocean, strong sea breeze and high waves seemed to be calm because of her presence. Women play a very very important role in life, especially in the life of a man. Their existence is like being soaked in a sea of energy, they can make us strong when they are present, they can make us conquer the world, they are compassionate and very caring, the right woman makes the right man able to fight all the obstacles this world provides. The best that can be achieved by a man can only be achieved when there is a right woman next to him.
