MUSIKHAUS Centre for Sound Arts provides the community of Cambridge with a space for experiencing, creating, and learning about music. The proposed programming of this project connects the classical foundations of music with the more contemporary sounds of today. This connection is echoed in the architecture of the space through the modern intervention of this historic building along the rivers edge.

provides the performing musicians with a comfortable and unique living experience. The main living area is open concept, encouraging collaborative music opportunities. Re-enforcing this concept is the open/ closed bedroom concept that allows the musicians to open their private space so that everyone can work together. Within the central space are three “Musik Boxes”, located at three different heights within the main living space, allowing a private, but collaborative space for the musicians to practice.

PARALLEL (Group Project) - Panel Layout/Project Description The concept behind “Parallel” evolved from the growing desire to have spaces and products that are multi-functioning and collapsible. In Toronto today, the average square footage of a condo is under 800 square feet, which suggests that there is a need for products that have multiple uses, or can be easily put away when not in use. The need for products such as this one is not however limited to the housing market. It also reaches places such as institutions, and schools.
Skills Utilized: • Woodworking • Photoshop • AutoCAD
Each piece of Parallel utilizes minimal space, and the interconnecting design allows for the diamonds to be adaptable and interchangeable. One of the most important things to any individual is having the sense of pride, individualism, and control. This product allows the user to have control over not only the look of their space, but also the function, and since they were a large part in the design, they also feel proud of their unique space. Parallel can be assembled into several different forms, including but not limited to: a bench, a stool, a desk, and a simple shelving unit. The clean lines and minimalistic design of Parallel also allows for easy storage when the product is not being used. The designers made it a goal to have no additional pieces on the interior or exterior. The intention is that nothing will interfere with the ability for the product to be stackable and incredibly versatile, such as hinges, or visible locks. The felt acts as both a connection piece between the pieces of wood, and a source of friction so the pieces don’t slide when they are joined together.

Diane von Furstenburg’s Studio Headquarters is located in New York City. The headquarters occupies what was previously an existing building, and was recently renovated. Through this case study, I was required to gain an understanding of the parti of the project, circulation, as well as sightlines, which were all explored in 3D models. The highlight of the space is the “stairdelier”, a staircase that runs from the bottom floor to the fifth floor, and brings sunlight through the building by glass panels strung along the sides of the stairs. The models below are representations of the “stairdelier”.

The programming that has been proposed for this site allows dogs and their owners to spend time together at the training centre, shopping for toys or treats, or on a community dog walk. The unique proposal is spaciously designed in order for the dogs to easily roam around the store, while still allowing the owners some time to relax at the cafe.

Ve r t i c a l S t u d i o CINE Group Project (Second Year) Panel Layout/Project Description
Skills Utilized: • 3D Model-Making • Laser Cutting • Photoshop • InDesign
CINE provides the community of Hespeler with new theatre and dining experiences. The restaurant on the first floor will feature original Mexican food, with a grandiose bar and communal tables, emphasizing the intention of bringing the community together. The unconventional theatre in the basement will have multipurpose amphitheater seating that continues into the adjoining exterior space. The space is welcoming and casual, and does not have a set program during off times. Located on the second floor is a space for the performers, directors, and special guests to call home. The three unique spaces of CINE are tied together through a 45 degree angle that mimics the entrance of the original post office. The angle is expressed differently on each floor, through directionality, ceiling treatments, and circulation. CINE will be a creative hub for the community, a space where everyone can come together to create, watch, and partake in theatre.

The proposed restaurant on the first floor will feature original Mexican food, a cuisine that the people of Hespeler have yet to experience. A grandiose bar is the focal point of the space, which is adjacent to communal tables, emphasizing the intention of bringing the community together. The unconventional theatre space located in the basement will house multipurpose amphitheater style seating that continues into the adjoining exterior space. The space is designed to be welcoming and casual, without having a set program during off times. Located on the second floor is a space for the performers, directors, and special guests to call home. The residence features a large patio and a space for the performers to both practice, and unwind. The angle is expressed on the interior differently on each floor, through directionality, ceiling treatments, and circulation. CINE will be a creative hub for the community, a space where everyone can come together to create, watch, and partake in theatre. Not only will it provide Hespeler with a place to unite, but it will also reach out to the surrounding schools, universities, and cities to partake in writing, producing, lighting, and many more aspects of the theatre umbrella.
