HOW “IT” WORKS 1. SCHEDULING

-When you are ready to book my services, feel free to call, email, or send me a facebook message. For standard sessions especially in the late spring and early fall months, I recommend having a couple back up dates in case I am booked. I will arrange a time for you to sign your contract before your sesison as well as a consultation for special sessions or if requested.

2. SESSION

-I generally get to the location 20-30 minutes before your session. This gives me time to get things ready so when you arrive, we can get started shortly. My goal during a shoot is to make my clients feel comfortable and at ease! If you are uncomfortable, it shows. We will move around the location and I will give direction shots and posing. I genuinely welcome clients’ input too. At the end of your session, we take care of all the paperwork as well as payment. I accept cash, checks made payable to Ariel McLanahan, or credit/debit card via Square. Full payment of your session fee is due at the end of your session.

3. SNEAK PEAK/PROOFING

-I post a sneak peak of your session on my business Facebook page within 3 days after your shoot. These are my edited favorites from the session. Within 14 days, I will have your images ready for your Reveal & Order Appointment. For this session, we can meet wherever is most convenient for you. I bring a sideshow of your photos, as well as some proofs of my favorites so we can go through them individually. I give a 10% discount on all orders placed at this appointment. Also, at your Reveal, I will give you a link to your online collection that you can use to share with family and friends as well as place online orders at a later time if that is more convenient.

4. PLACING YOUR ORDER

-Ordering photos can be complicated but my goal is to simplify this process. I have created a couple options for ordering your prints and products. *In Person: You can place your order the night of your Reveal or schedule a separate order consultation after you have had more time to look at your collection online. *Online Orders: You can order straight from Pixieset too. Either way, you can expect prints within 2 weeks. Albums and some specialty products or packages cannot be ordered online. You can always call or email me with any issues you have during the ordering process. Ariel McLanahan Graphic Design and Photography : 660-641-2283

- BOUDOIR & GLAMOUR What is Boudoir Photography?

Well, let’s define Boudoir: It’s French for a woman’s private room or bedroom. In photography terms, a bedroom, hotel or somewhere that creates an intimate setting for classy and romantic images. They can be done for a variety of purposes but most commonly to give as a gift to a spouse or significant other. My job is to capture you in the most flattering poses that fit your body type. As a photographer, there’s nothing more rewarding than when a client leaves their photoshoot feeling beautiful and confident.

Why Do a Boudoir Shoot?

1. AS A GIFT. Boudoir photos are a personal gift for someone special in your life. Whether it be a bridal gift to your new husband or a Valentines gift. I assure you it’s not like any other gift he’s gotten before! Or maybe you’ve been married for awhile and need a boost. A boudoir album will for sure do the trick. 2. JUST BECAUSE. Maybe you just want to capture your beauty forever. Or maybe you just want to show off that inner vixen in you that’s been dying to get out! No matter what size you are, 0-100, you’re sexy in your own way. So why not gift yourself with a boudoir session. You’ll leave feeling beautiful and confident. 3. TO CELEBRATE. Maybe you recently lost weight, got a job promotion, or you reached some goal you’ve been working so hard at. Boudoir photography will assure you what an awesome, beautiful woman you are.

What to Expect:

This can be one of the most intimidating experiences of a client’s life so I want to make you as aware of the process as possible. I do an in person consultation with every client too. That way the first time we meet isn’t the day of your shoot. LOCATION: This varies based on your preferences but sessions can be done in your home, a hotel room, or even outside on remote private property. Whatever makes you most comfortable and works with the aesthetics of the shoot. WHAT TO WEAR: I do a combination of glamour and

10

boudoir in my shoots based on your preferences. For glamour, it’s about glitz and sparkle. Something that makes you feel like a million bucks. With boudoir, prepare a variety of lingerie. Other items can include his button down shirt, tank tops, boy shorts — the options are endless. I encourage you to bring your own accessories too, but I have some on hand that can be used. Plan a couple options. Most importantly, bring what makes you feel comfortable and sexy! It’s completely up to you on how much you want to show. I allow up to 3 outfits so we can do as much of either glamour or boudoir as you like. HAIR AND MAKEUP: I provide professional hair and makeup for all Glamour/Boudoir shoots. The morning of your shoot, you just need to be makeup free and have day old washed hair. YOUR SHOOT: Unless you are okay with jumping right in to boudoir, we will start with glamour. This gives you a chance to work out your nerves and get comfortable. We will move through a variety of tasteful poses while transitioning through outfits. Unless you are a model in training, don’t worry about not knowing how to pose. I will give verbal and physical direction in addition to even posing myself to give an example for difficult poses. Your comfort and privacy is my biggest concern. Other than myself and a female guest if you would like, I keep the room private. You are welcome to wear a robe for in between poses. I don’t allow you to bring your husband or partner in the room while we are shooting. I find it makes the client more nervous and that’s not what we want. AFTER YOUR SHOOT: Because of the intimate nature of boudoir, I don’t do sneak peaks on Facebook. We will plan an in person reveal and order appointment about 2 weeks after your shoot. You are welcome to bring a friend or your significant other. We will go through your images to pick out favorites and put together your order. To make sure your images stay secure, I do not do an online gallery for boudoir. I do provide the option to give permission on images of your choice to be used in my portfolio but you specify which images and exactly how they can be used. I only share images which I have received explicit permission to use in writing.

- Pricing -

In Home Session........................................................... $175 A lot of people look down on the thought of getting photos taken in your home. The idea that it has to look like a catalogue is just not true especially for boudoir where we focus a lot on the details and closeups. I don’t mind having a look at your space when we do your consultation or you can bring photos on your phone. The main two areas I need are a bed with a simple (preferably solid) bedspread and a window with good lights. My hair/makeup artist will come along too. Plan about 2-3 hours total. I do recommend sending the hubby out with the kiddos so we can focus with no distractions. Hotel Session.................................................$250 and Up Price varies on the hotel we choose for your shoot. With hotel sessions, you have the option of keeping the room for the night following your session. You can turn it into a romantic date or just enjoy a night away from it all.

- Boudoir Soirée -

This super fun option is a way to get a bunch of girlfriends together for a day of pampering and fun while taking some gorgeous photos. Think of it like a direct sales party but so much better! Wine is always welcome and I bring the sweets! Plus Every hostess gets a free USB with 10 images and a print release plus $25 in print/product credit for every $200 in orders. To book your Soirée, give me a call and we will get together and work out all the details. I will give you cards with all the party details and costs for you to share with your friends. We can also send out an email invitation. I will send out preparation tips as we approach your event. I need a final head count 3 days before the shoot. Plan on about 1 hour per guest. If held at a hotel, room cost is additional and can be split between guests or paid by the hostess. Payment is due from each guest the day of the shoot. 1-3 Ladies.............................................................$150 Each 4-6 Ladies............................................................ $125 Each 7-9 Ladies............................................................$100 Each

- Tips for Your Newborn Session GET ‘EM MILK DRUNK

THE SOONER THE BETTER

-Your baby needs to be in as much of a milk coma as possible. Try to have them eating when I am scheduled to arrive so that they finish up by the time I am set up. Have extra bottles ready or be prepared to take nursing breaks as needed.

-I tell every parent I talk to about newborn pictures this one thing... Get your newborn pictures taken in the first week of their life!!! Past one week they get more alert and less posable. Plus a newborn shoot with a 4 day old generally goes much smoother than a newborn shoot with an 8 day old. The difference just a few days can make is shocking. Get scheduled as soon as possible!

A TOASTY BABY IS A HAPPY BABY -Turn off any fans and maybe kick the thermostat up a couple degrees. Since a lot of newborn shots are done with baby bare bottomed, it can get chilly so we want to avoid that as much as possible.

BE PREPARED FOR THE LONG HAUL -Sometimes newborns just need some time. I block off at least 3 full hours for a newborn shoot. I have to work on their schedule and sometimes it takes newborns time to get comfortable with me. They’ve had a lot going on lately!

HAVE A PLAN -I bring a few props and setups but try to have all outfit changes and props you are providing set out and ready to go. It makes it easier for me to plan my workflow when I can see everything we want to try and include.

NEWBORN & BABIES

- WHAT TO WEAR: THE WARDROBE GUIDE -

Almost every one of my clients has at least a couple moments of uncertainty when picking outfits for a photoshoot. It’s just natural to worry if something will photograph well. To help ease that worry, I put together some general tips as well as tips specific advice for unique sessions.

General Advice

*Dress like you do every day. If your little one hates jeans, please don’t make him wear them. If you feel

14

more natural in flats, don’t try out your 6 inch heels. My goal is to make you look natural and relaxed. When you feel stuffy, the photos look forced. It’s not good for anyone. *Layers are great. If you wear a tank top, a sweater, and a scarf, we can switch it up and get several different looks essentially with one outfit. It also helps if things are warmer or cooler out than you were anticipating. *Texture, accessories, and a pop of great color (with the location in mind) are all things to aim for when

Ariel McLanahan Graphic Design and Photography : 660-641-2283

picking outfits. Large logos or worded shirts, loud patterns, to much skin, too tight or oversized clothing, and too much coordination can all sink an outfit. *Wear a neckline that is flattering to your face and neck: Round faces, square jaw lines, or shorter necks look best in a v-neck as opposed to a round or crew neck. Thin faces, pointy chins, and very long necks look better in a boat-neck, crew neck, or round neckline. *Themes can be super fun! If you have a favorite team or hobby, dress for it. It makes your photos special.

Families

*Choose clothing that coordinates. It can be tempting to match everyone in identical outfits (especially along gender lines), but I discourage this because it can make the final images look a little “stiff.” By choosing a color palette that you love and dressing everyone around it, you will create a family that looks like they belong together while still celebrating everyone’s uniqueness. I recommended keeping it to three colors with maybe an accent color. Black, white, khaki, and a pop of red is an example of a classic combination. *Determine who is the most difficult to dress and let what they will wear determine the color palette. Everyone difficult? Assemble the must use pieces of clothing for each family member on the bed and continue.

Seniors

*For shirts and tops, avoid colors that are too similar to your skin color. For many people these shades can drain the color from your face, making you appear washed-out. *Bring a variety of color, don’t bring all blue outfits even if it is your favorite color. Change up the style, bring some dressy, some semi-dressy, and some casual outfits that express who you are. *When planning your outfits think about your complete look from head to toe. We will taking photos that are close-up, full length, and some in between. So you want to think about shoes and accessories too. *Get creative! Everyone wants unique senior photos so lets get creative and plan an outfit or two unique

to you. Maybe you are into a particular sport and we could incorporate your uniform? So you have a passion for converse sneakers? Wear a pair and bring your collection. It will add something special to your senior portfolio that everyone else won’t have. *Don’t forget those classic high school shots. If you have a letter jacket, incorporate it. Bring the tassel. You can also bring uniforms and equipment.

Maternity

*Pamper yourself! Make sure your hair, makeup and nails are done. Especially the nails as your hands are going to be in a LOT of shots. As a former (awfully bad) nail biter I know how raggedy hands can really ruin a shot. Now that doesn’t mean you need a manicure with polish, just neat, clean and trim. Go to a makeup counter at the mall and have them do a makeup application. Or take the time to do it yourself. Take extra time to actually style your hair. At a maternity session, YOU are the star so make sure your look matches that! :) Now for the clothes. *One major key with maternity sessions is to provide a visible separation between boob and belly. Otherwise, as any pregnant woman can tell you, you become one slope from neck to belly button. Not horrible but not great for photos. You want that visual break. This can be achieved with your hand placements during the shoot but it can also easily be gotten with your clothing choices. In terms of fit, I always advise tighter fitting clothes. I personally feel that a pregnant woman is one of the most beautiful things in this world. One major trend right now is sweater dresses, leggings, tunics etc. Super super cute when you have a belly. And the best part is with maternity, fashion that can be worn by a size 4 can also be worn by a size 18! *Wear a good bra. Something that holds the girls up. It will help a lot. In general you want something that covers arms, unless you have fabulous arms. I like something that is tighter fitting over the belly and then looser over the arms. Also don’t be afraid to wear a tight tank top under an unbuttoned cardigan! I always tell clients that they are welcome to wear as much or little clothing as possible. Cardigans are a great way to stay covered but offer the option of showing belly.

Ariel McLanahan Graphic Design and Photography : 660-641-2283

15

Maternity Continued

*A big key for pants is not to create slope from belly to crotch. Have some definition in there where your belly ends. Again, this can be done with hands and posing, or with the construction of the pants themselves. As far as the panels go, either go for pants that sit under the belly or go all the way up, like the secret belly fit that Motherhood etc are currently offering. Jeans are great for a maternity. A nice trouser wider leg jean can balance your figure out (but don’t go HUGELY wide), and skinny jeans and leggings can look nice with a longer top. You can also (if you still fit into them) wear jeans that were prepregnancy and leave them unzipped and open for some bare belly shots. *Don’t be afraid to pull out a dress!! In the summer I love Maxi dresses. Again though, you want that definition in there so don’t go for the voluminous massive loose dress. Go for dresses that are either tight fitting throughout the body, or have a tie below the bust. Wrap dresses work great. Something that shows off your shape and defines the different parts of your figure.

Couples and Engagements

*Enhance your natural beauty. If you plan to wear makeup for your wedding day, this is a great time to coordinate a trial with your makeup artist. For barefaced women like me who have to intensely watch YouTube videos for eyeliner coaching, getting your makeup done is a small investment that helps you feel confident — which definitely shows up in your pictures. Even if you don’t normally wear makeup, cameras have a sneaky way of picking up uneven tones on our faces. A little foundation and mascara will go a long way toward making your pictures reflect how you look every day. *Complement each other. Coordinating your outfits a little bit is fine, but don’t wear matching outfits. If you don’t dress like each other every day of the week, I don’t recommend dressing the same for your engagement shoot. However, I’m not against wearing colors that complement each other and pieces that have common shades. *Show your true colors. Wearing white should be saved for your wedding day, so go with bright hues

16

that will pop from the background. Another idea especially for engagement is to wear your wedding colors or something that won’t clash with your save the dates. *Comfort is key. If you have to jump up and down in your jeans to get them to fit, you might want to opt for something you’ll feel more free to move in. Want to wear heels for your farm photo shoot? Swap them for boots, which will help you look more natural and relaxed. If a strapless dress is in your “maybe” pile, think about whether or not you’ll feel confident or will constantly be adjusting your dress. The better you feel in your clothes, the better you’ll look in front of the camera, so don’t over-think it. *Dress on the same scale. On the day of your photo shoot, you should both look like you’re headed to the same place. Wear clothes that are on the same level of dressiness or casualness. If you’re going to be shooting in a wheat field, try a casual sun dress or shirt and jeans. If your shoot is more formal — let’s say walking around Kansas City before a date — cocktail attire might be the way to go. If you wouldn’t normally set up a picnic in a field or go trekking through a far-off neighborhood, don’t do it for your engagement photos. If the setting doesn’t feel natural to you, let me know some of your favorite spots to visit, like a nearby park or the cafe where you first met. *Switch things up. If you can’t decide between casual and formal, go for both. Bringing more than one outfit never hurts, as long as you don’t have to haul a bag of clothes around everywhere you go. If you are unsure of what to wear, bring a couple of options to your shoot and ask your photographer which one they think will work best with the setting. Wardrobe changes are always welcome and will give you an alternative look for your photos. *Consider the season. This may seem simple enough, but be sure to check the weather the morning of your shoot. Shorts and flip flops probably aren’t the best on a cold day, and wearing Uggs in the summer might not be the most comfortable option. *When in doubt, you are more than welcome to send me pictures. In most cases, I can even stop by a few days before your shoot to see in person what you’re thinking and check for anything that might be a problem.

- CANVAS WRAPS AND ENLARGEMENTS My favorite way to share my photos is with a gallery wall of large images! Whether you go with canvas, metal prints, or framed enlargement prints it is sure to make a statement. For gallery wall inspiration, check my website or Pinterest! I also bring measuring tapes to my photo reveal sessions so we could come up with a gallery wall layout of our own based on the desired location and space!

- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How would you describe your style?

I developed my love of photography as a landscape photographer. I still maintain that love and use it to add to my photos. I really enjoy natural light and try to use it as much as possible. I try to use a mix of posing and candid shots as well all depending on your comfort level.

How do I book a session with you?

I am so happy you are interested in a session. For standard sessions, you can call me at 660-641-2283 or email me at arielmclanahan@gmail.com with the date and time you are interested in. For things like weddings or stylized shoots, give me a call and we can schedule a consultation.

How far in advance should I book a session?

I recommend at least two weeks but during my busy seasons (May and October), try to schedule at least one month in advance if your date is not flexible.

What times work best for sessions?

It all depends on your location and the time of year. Between April and the end of October, the best time for outdoor sessions to start is between 4:00 and 6:00. Noon is the worst time to shoot an outdoor session. The light is the least flattering. Sunrise shoots are also an option.

I’m not a model. Do you help with posing?

Absolutely! Everyone has a different comfort level and knowledge of posing. I have clients that get in front of a camera and look like the prodigy of a fashion model and I have clients that are pretty clueless. Depending on how comfortable you are, I will provide adequate direction with posing. This varies from verbal direction to hands on posing when needed.

What are your payment policies?

Payment for standard sessions is due the day of the session. Weddings and special sessions over $100 require a 20% deposit at time of booking. The rest of the amount is due at the time of the session. Prints and products must be paid for when ordered.

Do you photograph destination weddings or work outside of your immediate area? Yes I do! For specific pricing, give me a call and we can go through the details.

What happens if it rains or there is other bad weather?

As most of my shoots are outdoors, this is a common question. In most cases, if you are okay with weathering the weather, so am I. If things like torrential downpours or frigid temperatures are expected, we have a couple options. For standard sessions, we can either reschedule or move to an indoor location. I watch the forecast leading up to the shoot and we can develop a plan as the forecast becomes a more concrete.

Can I see all my unedited images?

Sorry, but no. They don’t reflect my final quality of work and I don’t want you to think that they do. I carefully edit 1-3 shots from each pose plus the best candid poses. The final images you see will all be edited and ready for you to fall in love with.

What happens after my shoot?

Within a couple days from your shoot, I will have your sneak peak ready. I can post it on Facebook or send it via email depending on your preferences. Within 2 weeks from your session, I will have your images ready for proofing. This can be in person or via my proofing website. From there, we will put together your prints and products order.

How do digital images work?

In today’s world, digital images and rights can be confusing. I do sell my digital images either individually or as a set of 20. After purchasing your image, it can either be delivered via email, Google Drive, or a USB (minimum of 5 images). You can also purchase images via my proofing website. Purchasing the images is the only way you have rights to share or print them. It is illegal to save or screenshot your proofs or any images I share digitally.

Do you archive my photos?

YES! I have dealt personally with what happens when technology crashes or originals are lost. It is terrible and to make sure I don’t ever put my clients through that I back up all of your session photos via Google Drive and on an external hard drive.

What if I don’t like how my photos turned out?

This is a common concern and while it barely ever ever happens I want you to know how I make things right, just in case. A lot of things can play into this but if there is a problem with my equipment, posing, or final images, I offer a complementary second session or a refund. I want your experience to be positive and I want you to have a final product that you can’t wait to share. I guarantee it. I will make it right.

I have a questions that isn’t answered here. What should I do?

Give me a call! I am more than happy to help with any questions or concerns.
