Powentertainment Station Centre: A new entry foyer is proposed to link the centre and outside plaza, and provide space for activities if the weather is bad. Elevated walkway: The coal conveyor remains are developed into elevated walkway to provide verticle circulations and higher views. The railway track used to transfer coal to the site is reused as an inner railway track to provide disabled access from main entrance to the recreational centre.

Powentertainment Station Centre water front: The power station will be proposed to be transformed into a multi-functional recreational centre. It will be a complex of theatre, cinema, concert hall, shopping centre, cafe and restaurant, multi-layered parking, art shops and studios, and exhibition zone. The working pier will be used as a recreational pier, providing further access to the sea. Togethre with Port Seton harbour, it provides water recreation and circulation.
Powentertainment Station Centre: A new entry foyer is proposed to link the centre and outside plaza, and provide space for activities if the weather is bad.
Event lawn: The transfer station is transformed into an event lawn, which will accommondate recreations, such as Edinburgh Fringe events, bonfire and fireworks events, summer music performance, and sound and light show on the forsade of the power station.
PHYTOREMEDIATION PHASING Cockenzie Power Station is one of the most polluting power station in Europe (Dirty Thirty – Europe’s worst climate polluting power stations ,WWF, 2005 ). Potential pollution of coal-fired power station are: Nitrogen oxides, Surfur oxides, Carbon oxides, heavy metals. The phytoremediation phrasing strategies has four main aims: . Protect the nearby environment and human activities from the pollution. . Reclaim the contaminated soil through the use of plants without the need to excavate the contaminant material and dispose of it elsewhere. . Reintroduce local species and make a diverse habitat. . Minimize establishing and maintenance requirements and costs Phytoremediation species: Atriplex canescens: Evergreen shrub, usually used during early successions of phytoremediation, cleansing nitrogen-contaminated soil. Also widely used for sheep grazing. Agrostis capillaris: Medium perennial with fine texture, used to absorb surfur oxides in the air. Thlaspi caerulescens: Small flowering perennial, also used to absorb surfur oxides in the air. Willow (Salix sp.) : The fast grown species take lots of water from the soil and uptake heavy metals at a quicker speed than other species. Alnus glutinosa: Working with nitrogen-fixing bacteria, fix the nitrogen in the air, fertilzing the soil.
PHASING 1 15 YEARS At early succession, pioneer species such as perennial and shrub are introduced to improve the soil and remediate the pollution.
Fenced protected area with visual access the elevated walkway and view point at edge. Maintain by sheep grazing from the farmyard.
PHASING 2 15-30 YEARS At second stage, after the soil has been improves, trees are colonised to further remediate heavy metals.
Fenced protected area with visual access the elevated walkway and view point at edge. Regularly chop and cut the willows to increase the growth.
PHASING 3 30 YEARS ONWARDS At last stage, the soil has been remediated and condition has been improved, the lawn is ready for further development.
Lawn remediated and ready for further development.
