This has led to the development of a deep relationship with the landscape and the place, such also the creation of an architecture that lives on with the place, whether urban or natural. My research thesis, “Abstract Realities of Local Utopias, Some Thoughts”, focused on the relationship of the world to the local, research topic that continues to interest me and i keep researching and exploring.

urban apartment building on w a l l academic work, participation in the HARD-ART 2012 exhibition in Heraklion, Crete
The central idea of this apartment building is to transport the Venetian wall both to the shape of the building (each apartment, a volume is a “stone”), and to the facade of the building. On the façade we created a skin of metal and wooden panels, in line with the variety of different stones and materials on the wall, which acts as a setting offering different views to the resident and the passer-by. The panels act as shades and parapets, serving the composition of the building in its full and empty elements, as well as the conversation of the apartment building with the height differences of the walls. The composition of the apartment building is completed with the courtyards of the houses in the north, which are in direct contact with the wall and coexist in such a way that you can achieve the right sunshine and the visual communication between the residents (traditional characteristic of the surrounding houses). Planting throughout the building is low planting on the ground floor with small trees and planting in the private courtyards according to the preferences of the residents by introducing their personal life style. The materials used in the building are oxidized metal and wood, prefabricated concrete slabs and iron.

The project concerns the design of 2 squares of the city of Kasteli in the area of Kissamos in Crete, as well as the design of the building of the city library and the extension of the archaeological museum located on one of the two squares. The design of the squares, referring to the structure of the vineyards in the Kissamos area, as the Kissamous wine is one of the basic agricultural products of the area, creates a single floor that follows the natural slope of the soil. On this rug a pattern is laid out as a paving of two squares. Finally, the squares are completed by the placement of columns in the space, which define the subunits of the space and create a very dramatic character in the squares. The library building is positioned as a continuation of the floor of the squares and is defined by a white volume on the floor. The entrance to the library is made by a staircase that takes you from level-squares to level-3.5. The aim of this design movement is to gradually move from the public to the building. The building is developed on three levels, two underground and one on the ground floor (white volume). The same is the case with the extension of the archaeological museum where the entrance to the extension is made on a scale from ground level to -3.5 where the entrance and underground connection with the existing museum is located. The museum is developed on three levels with a patio in the center. Finally, the facades of both buildings are designed by transferring the proportions of the distances of the Ottoman wall, which is near the buildings, as engravings on the facades. According to surveys, part of the wall is believed to pass under the northern part of the archaeological museum extension building.

A rehabilitation center in the city of Chania, amidst a natural landscape and within walking distance of the sea. The structure of the building is characterized by a rectangular slab, around which you create an artificial ditch. The slab of the building consists of a planted roof to visualize the building in the natural landscape. The interior features a patio, surrounded by the various areas of the building, in order to maintain constant visual contact with the natural landscape within it. The building itself is a way of restoring the patient. The patient’s recovery is considered natural and psychological. As a means of the patient’s psychological recovery, the building itself appears - from a surface degraded level - to achieve privacy and isolation in the first stage of treatment, while in the later stages it becomes possible for the patient to gain contact with the exterior landscape and gradually returning to the top level of the ground and metaphorically everyday. The building itself, through the provision of the atrium, creates infrastructure for the physical rehabilitation of the user. The method of rehabilitation is achieved both by creating a corridor running through the building, which helps the patients to recover through movement and by four wet pools (one large group and 3 individual). The typology of the perimeter corridor also appears in the patient’s small private spaces (rooms).

diploma thesis, participation in the Barcelona Landscape Architecture Biennale 2019
Human contact with nature and the habitat of the landscape are a prime reminder of the past. A primitive settlement that started with the cultivation of the landscape and the exploitation of natural resources, became luxurious and recreational for a part of society, became the property of much of society, attained complete encroachment, destruction, abuse and urban landscaping, resulting in the modern need for protection and return of outdoor life. In particular, it is necessary to create the conditions necessary for the coexistence of the bourgeois with the natural landscape, an imperative search in an age of fast paced and virtual and artificial reality. The return to the originative roots, the return to the traces of an old daily life in modern life. Observing the Attica basin proves that natural landscape niches within urban construction exist, vary in size, and remain remnants of a once-in-a-lifetime life. Modern day life treats these nuggets as boundaries of an unknown, inaccessible nature. The choice of one of these urban natural landscapes is made, the sycamore grove is selected at the boundaries of cephalos and marousis and embraces the new nature. It is clear that the place is ideal for redefining the relationship of modern man, and bourgeois with nature. Relationship as mentioned timeless and diverse.

The key feature of the new natures is the gradual Initiation into Nature, which we are no longer part of. So you create a system of 3 domains 1st sector: Urban daily life and land production coexist through urban crops, agricultural education sites, experiential spaces - the “new nature laboratory - and recreational and recreational areas. Section 2: Smooth reintegration into the virgin landscape - gradual removal from urban space (image and sound) have a primary role. The elements of nature - earth, water, sky, fire - organize the space by providing transitional places that then lead to places of contact with these elements. Shared places that can accommodate groups of people and provide communication and contact. 3rd Sector: The intrusion of the physicist takes place. The design of small structures - shelters - provides the experience of living in nature. Experience primordial, archetypal and totally personal. Aiming to isolate, calm and nourish the individual with energy emanating from the elements of nature.

1st entrance. A large metal roof welcomes visitors from the sidewalk level. But it also welcomes nature with creepy plants that coexist with construction. A wall of glass bricks stops you and as you go through a new landscape. Particularly at this point there was an outdoor parking lot which you undergo and restore the natural geomorphology of the sloping ground.

2nd entrance This time the glass brick wall welcomes you and reveals a green gate. A metal construction with creepers, a natural transitional corridor on either side of which there are reception and information rooms.

The glade  the place itself gives the answer. A place of gathering, communicating and living with the elements of nature. An artificial stainless steel pool is installed on the ground. The ground and the sky become one. Seats around it are made from natural materials as if they were born from the ground and met with metal benches in the shades of pine and holly roots.

New nature laboratory Two partially abandoned greenhouses house the lab of the new nature. An area of research and knowledge about the landscape. A square takes you gradually inside the land there is a library and a study area. Demolition. Here we find crops, small stainless steel workshops protected by light. Then an outdoor space takes you to the second greenhouse. Surrounding glass borders and half a semi-outdoor area house a large garden. Workbenches and a small circular theater organize the heart of the new nature lab. Meeting, communication, protection and living space with the landscape.

Areas of isolation and coexistence with the elements of nature. The earth, the air, the fire appear either in their natural form or are implied through the use of materials. Concrete with large aggregate composition. Stainless metal, the result of the power of fire.

Structures draw references from archetypes, primates, laymen. Design through minimal (forms and proportions) allows nature to be the protagonist in space.

participation in a sculpture competition for the Garden of Sculptures on “The Limit”, Honorable Mention
The aim of the competition was to create a sculpture in the New Beach of Thessaloniki, which deals with the definition of the boundary. Taking into account the location of the sculpture, the participant uses two materials of water and oxidized steel to determine the “boundary” as well as the space designated but at the same time defined. thus a surface with water accommodates two curved steel surfaces which in other places are defined by water but in others are those defining individual water spaces. Full and voids succeed each other on the surface of the metal, water also defines and defined.

participation in international architectural contest “cook 8” Honorable Mention, top 10
Dining and eating matter as a process. From the production of the raw material that gives us the soil and the water, to the cooking, to the preparation for a mystical “ceremony”, to the purification of the water, and finally to the enjoyment of the raw material around a fireplace, all together in a space, a horizon, an air. The four elements of nature, these four elements that are directly linked to the “ceremony” of focus, are translated, redefined and created 3 places, in one space. Three compact structures host one or more elements of nature, and a translucent system presents, organizes, and gradually reveals to the visitor the process of the “ceremonial” meal of which he will be a part. The first contact, the first structure. The structure of the kitchen. There, land and water provide the raw material for performing the art of cooking. There, too, the element of fire as mediator between art and man. You first discover the structure that defines the kitchen, as this is where the first stage of cooking begins. There the contact with the cook is immediate, as everything goes back and forth to the first structure. The second revelation, the second structure. The structure of the bathroom. There, the visitor encounters a clearing and preparation site to proceed to the focus. That’s where the structure of the water is. A notch creates a washbasin that you can use either to visit the bathroom from the back, or just to wash your hands, from the front. The height, of this empty space on the structure, is below the level of the eye, as the actor does not play a central role here, but the action. The process of cleanliness before you go into the process of enjoying food. The third and last picture, the third structure. The structure of the fireplace, the structure of the fire. The ultimate meeting place, gathering and communication of visitors. A structure houses in the center of the fire and around it a hanging circular surface, stainless steel (a product of the power of fire), creates the table. Eight seats, eight plates, eight people around a fire have now reached the final part of this process.
