FINDING YOUR WAY THROUGH THE
“MEDICARE MAZE”
Do you have answers to the following questions? What is Medicare? What does it cover? How much does it cost? When is it available to me? Is “traditional” Medicare all I need? Does Medicare cover my prescriptions? What options are available to me with Medicare? If you are new or soon to be eligible for Medicare, these are only a few of the questions you may have that need honest and accurate answers before a well-informed healthcare decision should be made. lf you're currently enrolled in Medicare you know that "Open Enrollment" is fast approaching (Oct. 15 –Dec. 7). There may be changes to your current plan in 2016. It's time to schedule a "plan review" and find out what's new. Don't be caught unaware. I’ve been serving the Medicare community for 16 years, and can provide the answers and options available to those eligible or soon to be eligible for Medicare.

Release Your Skinhibitions! Is your fear of laser cosmetic procedures inhibiting your skin’s radiance? For many people high cost, downtime, pain, and side effects are a major inhibitor for working on the skin imperfections that may affect self-confidence. With advancements in technology and experienced providers, you can avoid these issues.
Before
New Sublative® treatments utilize non-laser, non-light based technology to provide desired results without the risk or worry of more invasive procedures. This fractionated bi-polar radio frequency (RF) device precisely targets the skin at a level to stimulate new collagen and new healthy skin cells. The results are a marked reduction of acne scars, mild to moderate wrinkles, improvement in skin discolorations, and an overall smoother and more elastic skin texture. For best results three treatments are done 4-6 weeks apart, more may be required depending on your skin needs. A slight warm, prickly sensation is all that is felt. A dark pink or red flush is seen after the treatment. Makeup may be worn the following day. One of the best advantages of Sublative® is its safety to be used in all skin types including darker pigmented skin. Therefore, if you have been nervous about trying a cosmetic procedure and you are looking for amazing results, Sublative® Skin Rejuvenation is for you. Smooth and soften wrinkles, textural imperfections, and acne scarring with no downtime and best of all, this very safe and comfortable procedure can be done in a half-hour.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”~2 Timothy 3:16-17 Welcome to our September Issue. It’s important to have self-discipline. God teaches us that discipline is necessary in life. Discipline is essential to your character. Those who know God live according to the way that God prescribes. I decree these bible verses encourage you to obey God’s word. 1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
1 Timothy 4:7
2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Psalm 119:9-11
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Deuteronomy 29:29
But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
Romans 13:14
Titus 2:12
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Ephesians 4:23-24
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Philippians 3:12-14
Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Colossians 3:12
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Romans 5:3-5
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
2 Corinthians 10:5
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Romans 12:3
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Until next time,

Colorado River Discovery Business focused on fun, future of national park The seeds for Colorado River Discovery were planted in 2005 by longtime rafting experts and friends Scott Seyler, John Vail and Mark Grisham. At the time, Grisham served as director of the Grand Canyon River Outfitters Association. Vail and Seyler served on the organization’s board of directors. After a board meeting, the three friends began talking about the National Parks Service. As it turned out, the contract through the National Parks Service to provide day trips through the Colorado River was up for renewal. Within days, the team – who had more than 60 years of rafting experience between them at the time – was developing a proposal, thanks to Grisham’s expertise in legalities coupled with Vail and Seyler’s expertise in operations, equipment and marketing. “In 2006, our team – now Colorado River Discovery – was awarded the contract and began providing our now-famous one-day rafting trips anywhere along the Colorado River every March to November,” Seyler says. Today, Colorado River Discovery is now 65 team members strong – including Seyler’s son, Korey and wife, Shawn, making it a family affair – and takes more than 50,000 visitors on rafting tours each year.
National parks partnership “The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations,” Seyler says. “As such, they cooperate with partners – like us – to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.” Because Colorado River Discovery operates in a natural resource and in partnership with the National Parks Service, they are focused on making every effort to respect the surrounding land while providing guests with once-in-alifetime adventure opportunities on the Colorado River. “Colorado River Discovery incorporates environmentally responsible practices at every level of our business,” Seyler says. “For example, over the past decade, we’ve reduced our fuel consumption by 20 percent. We also employ a ‘Smart Green Systems’ program company wide, which is focused 14 September 2015| azhealthandliving.com
on education, creative recycling and reuse programs on-site and other small steps that combine to make a big difference to the future of the Colorado River.”
Sustainability on the water “In 2016, the National Parks Service will celebrate its Centennial, focusing on the achievements of the past 100 years as well as looking forward to the future,” Seyler says. “It is important to us that we do the same in a big way.” As such, Colorado River Discovery is pleased to announce the launch Colorado River’s first 100 percent electric raft. The highly anticipated raft is currently in the final stages of testing by Colorado River Discovery and in the certification process by the U.S. Coast Guard and registration process with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, and will make its official public debut in spring 2016. “The electric raft is the culmination of nearly a decade of research and development and will be the first of its kind on the Colorado River,” Seyler says. “The electric raft produces zero emissions, exponentially reducing waste products that could pollute the environment or disrupt the climate. It will also greatly reduce noise pollution on the Colorado River.” Photo courtesy of Colorado River Discovery

A Jaguar at the Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park By Dr. Grey Stafford
A Jaguar enjoys the waterfall on a warm summer day in an allnew two-story exhibit. Male jaguars can reach up to about 200 lbs. and are known to have the strongest bite of any feline species. Their stocky build enables them to climb with ease in their preferred rainforest habitat enabling them to stalk and ambush prey animals. Jaguars are also excellent swimmers. While most jaguars are yellow with black spots, a sizable fraction of the population is black with black spots. Jaguars have an extensive range throughout Central and South America and were once found throughout the desert southwest, including Arizona. Similar to many large vertebrate predators across the globe, jaguars face an uncertain future due to poaching and deforestation resulting in habitat loss and fragmentation. Many are killed as a result of increasing human-animal conflicts over space and resources. Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation Promoting the self-esteem and enriching the lives of Arizona’s children in foster care According to the Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation (AFFCF), more than 30 children enter foster care in Arizona each day. “Many times they come with little more than the clothes on their back or what they can carry in a trash bag,” cites the nonprofit’s website, www.affcf.org. “They may have never ridden a bicycle or sat down for a family meal. They may be struggling to keep up in school or never dared dream of playing a sport.” Fortunately, the AFFCF is here to help. “The Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation promotes the self-esteem and enriches the lives of Arizona’s children in foster care by funding social, athletic and educational activities and items that provide them with quality experiences while they live through very difficult circumstances,” explains AFFCF Executive Director Kris Jacober. The nonprofit does this in many ways. Most recently, AFFCF helped the state’s foster kids enjoy summer activities and head back to school with the proper supplies. Over the summer this included funding summer camps, field trips, bicycles and gear, trips to Disneyland, swimming lessons, tutoring and more. For back to school season last month, the organization hosted a Backpack and School Supply Drive. This month, Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza has launched a new campaign to benefit the Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation. The 45 Papa Murphy’s locations in greater Phoenix and northern Arizona will donate $1 to AFFCF from every Mini Murph™ Make ‘N’ Bake Pizza Kit sold through Sept. 24. 16 September 2015 | azhealthandliving.com
“There’s more than 18,000 kids in the foster care system in Arizona. We want to do everything we can to help these children,” says Ed Holmes, who owns numerous Papa Murphy’s locations in Arizona. “Giving a foster child a joyful childhood is a cause that aligns so well with our company mission and we are honored to help in any way we can.” “We give children in foster care back their childhood,” confirms Jacober. “We help promote their self-esteem and enrich their lives by funding activities and other needs that give them the experiences they need while going through very difficult times. This partnership with Papa Murphy’s will allow us to enhance the lives of so many deserving children.”
In addition to focusing on younger children, AFFCF also places an emphasis on helping teens that are about to age out of the foster care system. One such program is called Keys to Success. “AFFCF has recently embarked on a new program to serve young men and women in foster care ages 15 to 17,” according to the website. “More than 800 youth will age out of foster care at age 18 in Arizona this year without family relationships to support them and few financialresources.”
3. Research potential careers to find top three fits. 4. Prepare a plan to pursue the top career choice. To make this possible, AFFCF works with several Arizona-based employers and partners. In addition, AFFCF helps foster care youth access secondary education scholarships and several other needed resources.
According to Jacober, the Keys to Success program includes a four-step career exploration process: 1. Investigate: Discover the youth’s personality, abilities, skills, interests and priorities. 2. Match possible careers to the results of the investigation process.

Restless Legs Syndrome Affects Many Millions of people are afflicted with restless legs syndrome, an uncomfortable neurological condition that may lead them to move their limbs repeatedly to find relief. In spite of its name, restless legs syndrome or RLS, is not limited to the lower extremities, as some of the sensations associated with the condition are felt in the arms as well. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, a division of the National Institutes of Health, says as much as 10 percent of the United States population may have RLS. Several studies show that approximately 2 to 3 percent of adults are affected by moderate to severe RLS, which occurs in both men and women, though incidence of the condition is twice as high among women. Although people of any age can be diagnosed with RLS, it is more often diagnosed in middle-aged men, women and seniors. The most common symptom of RLS is an irresistible urge to move because of uncomfortable, and sometimes painful, sensations deep within the body. The sensations often defy description but can range from pain, aching, creeping, crawling or prickling feelings. Symptoms may occur at any time but are most evident when the body is at rest, whether sitting down for long periods or when going to sleep. Symptoms may increase in severity throughout the night. Those with RLS frequently experience periodic limb movements characterized by jerking and twitching, which can make it difficult to fall and stay asleep. Sleep deprivation may carry-over into daytime hours and make daily life difficult. Many with RLS also have concentration problems, impaired memory, or struggle to perform daily tasks due to exhaustion. RLS symptoms may vary and change from day to day. Symptoms may subside early in the morning, but they often reappear and worsen at night. Considerable evidence points to a dysfunction in the brain's basal ganglia circuits that rely on the neurotransmitter 26 September 2015| azhealthandliving.com
Restless legs syndrome affects millions of people and can compromise quality of life. dopamine, which helps regulate muscle movements, as a contributor to RLS. Individuals with Parkinson's disease often have RLS as well. RLS may be a genetic condition, as it seems to run in families. Pregnancy, chronic diseases, and medications can also aggravate symptoms of RLS. RLS is diagnosed by looking at certain qualifying criteria. Physicians will document symptoms and note when they occur. Treatment may involve a mixture of medications as well as therapies for relieving symptoms. Medications for RLS may lose their efficacy over time, and doctors may have to work with patients to develop a treatment plan that works.
Steps to Take When Infertility May Be an Issue
By Dr. Genoveva N. Prisacaru
For couples who have decided it’s time to have a baby, seeing month after month go by without results can be an increasingly frustrating, heartbreaking experience. Even before an infertility diagnosis (6 to 12 months of trying without results), many begin to worry that something’s wrong, and whether there’s anything they can do about it. And the pressure the biological clock can add is real, especially for women over 30, fertility declines with every passing month. It can be a stressful time, full of uncertainty. Here are five practical steps that can help, even before an infertility diagnosis:
Get healthy. Good health matters. Obesity and smoking
are major contributors to infertility. Conversely, good nutrition and exercise not only increase your chances of conception, they support a healthy pregnancy as well.
Get smart. Brush up on your reproduction basics. Timing
is critical. Women are most fertile during and just before ovulation. Learn how to pinpoint those days. And guys, fertility issues are as likely on your end as hers. It may be time for boxers. Study up.
Get close. Infertility can put a huge strain on a relationship. Sex can become a chore where it once was fun. Remember, now more than ever, it takes two. Keep the lines of communication open and keep your focus on what makes your relationship great. Get going. In addition to steps 1, 2 and 3, try an at-home
conception aid. The Stork® OTC is a good choice. It’s FDA-cleared for home use without a prescription and utilizes cervical cap insemination, which has a success rate of 10-20%, similar to IUI.
Get advice. It’s never too early to consult a health care provider to discuss any of the steps above, whether it’s time to start diagnostic testing, or other details specific to your situation.

PREVENT
HEALTH By Dr. Fred Abeles, author Break Away: The New Method for Treating Chronic Headaches, Migraines and TMJ without Medication
Are You Misguided In Your Headache Treatment? It’s human nature to want to take the shortest route to ending debilitating pain, and that’s part of why the pharmaceutical industry makes its hundreds of billions of dollars each year. Just like we’re all tempted to reach for that sweet, salty, or fatty snack when we’re hungry, many of us want to treat our chronic headaches with a quick fix by popping a pill. While it’s understandable, pills are often another example of the easy path being a temporary one. Just like a candy bar ensures hunger will come raging back sooner than later, so too does pain medication tend to guarantee a future date with pain. Many headache sufferers may be under the mistaken impression that their headache is the result of nerves, but that’s wrong in most cases. Most pain originates in muscle and connective tissues. Here are a few ways to best navigate the problem of painful and persistent headaches.
Avoid misdiagnosis. Doctors are experts who spend many years in college, training and helping others. Patients figure that surely they know best. But that’s not 100 percent true. A real estate agent can’t make you happy without your input. A financial advisor cannot meet your goals unless you communicate your goals and money situation effectively. The same is true for doctors, who are busy in today’s health care system and may be misled by patients, who tend to be flustered and potentially vague about their symptoms. In other words, patients need to be their own top advocate for their own health, and that means doing one’s due diligence in paying close attention to symptoms, communicating effectively to health care providers, and considering multiple causes. A simple pain-relieving prescription is often not a lasting solution. Don’t just treat your symptoms; get to the root cause. As mentioned, pain-relief drugs are like candy bars for hunger – they only kick the problem down the road temporarily. The real culprit for chronic headaches usually includes inflammation, muscles of the head and 28 September 2015| azhealthandliving.com
neck, forward head posture, cervical alignment and its effect on the cranial nerves and vertebral artery. And, for millions of sufferers, the cause of headaches is a misaligned bite. This includes the temporomandibular joint, or TMJ. This is located at the front of the ear where the temporal bone meets the lower jaw on the side of the head.
Your answer may be found in a painless, nonpharmaceutical treatment. Headaches have a variety of causes, from lifestyle choices to chemical activity to a combination of reasons. Millions overlook the symptoms of TMJ, which include a clicking or popping jaw, a bite that feels off, snoring, pain in the jaw/jowl areas and a forward head posture. If you have any of these symptoms, there is a silver lining to your problem, because there are multiple options that are free of pain and do not require altering your body chemistry with pharmaceutical drugs. A few bite adjustments, for example, can dramatically improve the alignment of your lower jaw, resulting in happy, calm muscles that don’t create pain. Physical therapy may include one or more of the following: ultrasound, cold laser, NuCalm, trigger point muscle relaxation, Cefaly and more.
Treating Toenail Fungus Naturally By MS
When it comes to grooming, few conditions draw the ire of men and women as much as toenail fungus. Eradicating toenail fungus can be very difficult, and even the most effective toenail fungus treatments can leave men and women susceptible to reinfection. Though pharmaceutical treatments have proven effective at targeting toenail fungus in two-thirds of patients, such medications have been associated with some potentially harmful side effects, including liver damage, and many antifungal drugs are very toxic. The body's reaction to medications aimed at treating toenail fungus can be tricky, limiting the drug's effectiveness while simultaneously increasing the risk that men and women may succumb to other ailments. The liver tends to recognize certain toenail fungus medications as toxins, which can lead to liver damage that may produce far more drastic consequences than toenail fungus. Because of the body's tendency to recognize certain treatments as toxic, many men and women have begun to seek alternative ways to address their toenail fungus. For example, anti-fungal nail polishes are considered safe alternatives to traditional medications. However, these topical drugs often must be applied regularly for up to one year before they produce any results. In addition, such treatments can be harmful to men and women with sensitive skin, potentially resulting in rashes and redness. The risks associated with medications and other toenail fungus treatments have led many men and women to seek natural treatments that won't be accompanied by potentially unhealthy and painful side effects. In addition to addressing toenail fungus, there are other ways men and women can improve the appearance of their feet.
Cast out calluses and corns. Calluses and corns appear when dead skin builds up along the heels, toes, and bony areas of the feet. While unsightly, calluses and corns can be easily eliminated with a pumice stone or foot file used immediately after showering. Consult a podiatrist if your
calluses or corns are especially pesky and difficult to remove.
Address ingrown toenails. Athletes and dancers tend to suffer the most from ingrown toenails, a potentially painful condition wherein the toenail grows into the surrounding skin. Ingrown toenails are often a byproduct of the toes rubbing tightly against the shoe during physical activity. Soaking feet in an Epsom salt bath twice a day for 15 minutes can reduce pain and inflammation, while cutting toenails straight across can reduce the likelihood that the nails will grow into the skin.
Wear footwear that fits. Wearing footwear that's too small or restrictive can increase your risk of ingrown toenails and hammertoe, a deformity that occurs when the toes become claw-like. Ill-fitting footwear can cause hammertoes or aggravate preexisting hammertoes, while also increasing the risk of friction between the toes and the interior of the shoes, potentially causing ingrown toenails. When shopping for shoes, always find footwear that fits, even if it means sacrificing style for comfort. azhealthandliving.com | September 2015

MIND, BODY & spirIT By Dr. Sherrie Campbell, author of Loving Yourself: The Mastery of Being Your Own Person
The 10 Understated Qualities of a Truly Beautiful Woman There is no doubt that there is great value assigned to external beauty. For some, how they look physically is simply an expression and celebration of their internal beauty, but often those who are physically attractive are emotionally unattractive. To be beautiful inside and out, you must possess more than a pretty shell. Here are 10 understated qualities of beauty:
Elegance: Elegance is that dignified grace about your appearance, movement, personal style or behavior. To be elegant is to be strong and assured in who you are and to move gently within that energy.
When you possess elegance, you are graceful even amidst a challenge. You are able to handle yourself in a noble and ethical manner. You hold good posture; your energy has a mystery, softness, strength and cleverness to it. You are vulnerable yet self-assured.
Kindness: The kindness of your spirit, how you treat, think about, and speak to others comes from a genuine and sensitive place. You are kind, even to those whom you do not care for. You are aware that you can love someone even if you do not like them.
Being kind may be perceived as weakness or vulnerability by others, but you know that kindness is one of your strongest influences. If you can’t say something nice, you have the control to remain quiet.
Composure: Composure is the beauty of self-control. Life is always going to bring its challenges. Without a sense of composure, it is easy to allow conflict-situations and relationships to unnerve you, but when you have composure, you understand the concept of less equals more.
The less you react, defend, explain, become fearful or controlling the more command you have over a situation. Having composure allows you to stand tall with grace in the face of loss, challenge and not to be overly boastful when it comes to your success.
Courage: Be willing to dare greatly in your life. It takes courage to love fully, to change yourself when necessary, to feel deeply, to leave love when it’s scary, and to chase your dreams with passion and an unwavering tenacity. 30
September 2015| azhealthandliving.com
You are aware that to become courageous you must do courageous things. You also know it is not loudness of your mouth but the depth of your character, to keep going no matter your circumstances, which makes you thrive.
Confident: When you are self-loving, you naturally possess a quiet confidence. Your self-awareness, dedication to self-development and personal growth provides you the knowledge to succeed at nearly anything you seek.
Because of your life experiences and inner depth, you can be certain positive things will happen in your life because you depend upon yourself to have the information and willingness to do the work necessary to get to your result.
Deliberate: You are clear and persistent about who you are, where you are headed in life and what you want from your relationships to be happy. In being deliberate, people know where they stand with you. You get what you want in life because you are clear in saying what you want.
You use each challenge life brings to positively refine yourself. This refinement keeps your life clean of negativity. Being deliberate keeps you pointed in the direction of your dreams, connected to your true loves and to living genuinely as who you are. In being deliberate your life is not set up on pretenses. Who you are does not change from person to person or situation to situation.
Intelligent: Intelligence is about knowledge, but even more so about emotions. In being aware of your emotional patterns, you are endowed with the flexibility to handle challenge and change, allowing you to unlock smart solutions to your problems.
With a well-rounded intelligence, you carry yourself in a stately and unafraid manner. You are secure that there is a multitude of choices available, so there is no need to be reactive. In being emotionally grounded you have the ability to keep your eyes on the bigger picture turning obstacles into opportunities.
Humble: Life isn’t all about you, in fact, you prefer to celebrate the accomplishments of others as much as your own. You are proud of who you are but have no need to add histrionics to your success. Most of the time you prefer being in the background, working hard, and allowing your success speak for itself. You are sensitive and want the best for everyone. You do not see yourself above others, as you are secure enough in yourself that the trap of comparison doesn’t interest you. You enjoy your life for what it is and do not feel entitled to more without the commensurate work to back it up.
Honest: People gravitate toward what is real. You are simple, upfront, gentle, but direct in the ‘being’ of who you are. You are content to live life patiently and know how to wait well. For you, life is about being authentic and following your heart and nothing else. You are someone others can depend upon, as you have no ulterior motives. You are relationship oriented not agenda oriented. You believe the truth is the only path to success and deep intimacy.
Loving: There is nothing more appealing to others than to be in the presence of a loving person. When you love yourself, you have endless love to give. For you love is a verb and it is expresses itself through loving kindness, touch, your smile, and sense of inner joy and vitality. You are warm toward others and kind to yourself. There is nothing you wouldn’t do to help and this loving approach is taken into every area of your life from career to parenting. Further, you apply love as a form of discipline and setting boundaries when necessary. There are times when the only way another can learn and grow is for you either to withdrawal your love, or to set boundaries around it, in an effort to protect your generous nature. Love is not just a gentle emotion it is also firm. You know that in order for you to remain loving you must protect your heart and put yourself first in negative situations. Through life’s experiences, you have come to learn that some people can stay in your heart, but not in your life. azhealthandliving.com |September 2015

MIND, BODY & spirIT By Steve Gilliland, author of Detour, the follow-up to his widely acclaimed Enjoy The Ride
Dealing with Life’s Detours The loss of a job; a bad breakup; a nasty accident; a new, obsessive habit; a big move to a new town; health problems experienced by you or a loved one – these are some of the many things that can turn your life upside down. These are life’s detours that you don’t expect. Could there be a good way to respond to such turns in life? Is it honest to “look on the bright side?” Isn’t the root feeling hurt? I don’t think most people would ask you to deny your feelings, but you don’t have to be led by the nose by feelings, which have a primary characteristic of being temporary. Life is change – it’s axiomatic. Most of us accept this on an intellectual, abstract basis. But when it comes to experiencing change, we often resist it. Fear of change causes immense yet unnecessary suffering. Personal growth and maturity are based largely on how you respond to life’s unexpected detours. Here are a few basic steps to dealing with life’s detours:
Ask yourself about opportunity. We don’t like most of life’s detours because they force us out of our comfort zone. New duties at work or a request from a spouse may not only pique our defenses but also make us wonder, “Can I do this?” Fear and anxiety may push us to focus on our weaknesses and convince us of what we cannot do. When we make a simple shift in mentality, however, we can empower the beginning of personal growth by seeing unprecedented challenges as opportunities. Are you willing to change? If not, then you can’t see opportunity. Change is inevitable growth is optional. If your wife asks you for a more patient attitude, for example, will you grow with an open heart or dig your heels in. She may not divorce you if you remain stubborn, but your relationship will likely flounder. Seeing a challenge as an opportunity enables selfimprovement. And, when it’s time to ask something of 32 September 2015| azhealthandliving.com
your wife, you will have currency with which to work. The same principle applies to work. If you’re asked to take on a new responsibility and respond well, you will gain leverage in your career.
Can you envision something better? In the process of internally negotiating change, a positive vision can help you tilt the scales of change as something positive. The vision can be specific. If you don’t know how to use software at work that you need to use, imagine how much better your time will be spent once you learn. What will it take to get there? Practice. It may not be effortless, but you’ll have mapped out a solution. The vision can be broad, too. Is it possible to be more patient in general toward life’s detours? Indeed. Simply having more patience toward loved ones, for example, will improve your relationships tremendously.

Q. Are all the recommended vaccinations Q. Why do my back and legs bother really necessary for my child? me every time I walk?
Q. What is Cutera Excel V™ and how does it work for vascular treatment?
A. Each year, Arizona residents face outbreaks of preventable illnesses including influenza (flu), measles, whooping cough, hepatitis, varicella (chickenpox), pneumonia and human papilloma virus (HPV). Vaccines not only provide protection for your child, but also protect our community by keeping infections out. People who work regularly with kids should also get vaccinated.

A. For most people walking is a good thing.
Some people however, find that walking makes their back, buttocks-hips or legs, feel worse- not better. Commonly patients will tell me when they walk a certain distance, like to their mailbox for instance; they need to rest because of an unpleasant feeling in their back or hips or their legs. They describe different symptoms like heaviness, numbness or just an uncomfortable feeling. When they sit and rest, gradually their legs feel better. Does this sound familiar? It is a classic sign of a condition called intermittent (meaning it comes and goes) claudication (unpleasant symptoms which are increased by physical activity). Thus intermittent claudication literally means unpleasant symptoms that become worse with increased activity and lessen or go way when sitting or resting, usually of the lower back, hips or legs. One common cause of leg claudication is degeneration of the discs in the lower back, called spinal stenosis. Back degeneration causes squeezing of the nerves that begin in the back, but travel down the legs. When you walk these nerves are irritated and produce your symptoms.
Flexion-Distraction is an exciting new
treatment for these symptoms. Research in the Journal of Physical Therapy Science, suggests it may increase disc height (counteract the effects of disc degeneration) and another research report published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, suggests that flexion distraction can produce symptom relief lasting up to one year. This is great news for patients whose legs hurt when they walk!

providing treatment of a variety of vascular and benign pigmented skin conditions, safely and effectively.
Many skin conditions manifest in the form of broken or abnormal blood vessels in the skin, as is the case with rosacea, in which the facial blood vessels dilate excessively causing redness and flushing. Excel V™ treats vascular conditions by administering a unique high power green laser that is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the skin. The laser heats the abnormal vessels causing the vein walls to collapse and seal shut. Over time, the vessels will no longer be visible. Several treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired result. The number of treatments depends on various parameters, including the size, thickness, and color of the vascular lesion. Superficial vascular lesions are usually easiest to treat; some patients might see significant improvement after just one treatment. Since individual results vary, ask your medical professional about your specific condition. After an initial consultation, your physician will determine if treatment with the Excel V™ is appropriate. Unlike other procedures, injections, or topical anesthesia are not required throughout the duration of the 15 – 30 minute procedure. Q. What causes a headache and are there any alternative treatment options?
A. According to the World Health
Organization, around 47 percent of the world’s adult population will have experienced a headache within the last year. The American Headache Society states head pain is the fifth leading cause of Emergency Department visits overall in the U.S. while it’s the third leading cause for such visits for women between the ages of 18 and 44. There are many reasons why people experience headaches. Causes for headaches include, but are not limited to, increased stress, lack of sleep, increased blood pressure, increased muscle tension, post motor vehicle accident or sports injury, improper nutrition and lack of activity. There are also long term changes that can occur that can be related to the cause of late onset of headaches such as chronic arthritis in the spine, more specifically the neck. Fear not, there are treatment options out there for headaches. Of a wide variety options a few alternative treatment options include dry needling, chiropractic care and meditation. In many cases, addressing trigger points via needling can help reduce the tension at the root of aggravation for the headache. At the same time, addressing the cervical spine segmental restrictions promotes a reduction in tension even more and meditation allows for the relaxing and calming parasympathetic or rest and digest mode, which helps reduce the tension ultimately causing headaches.

Q. What are cataracts?
Q. What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea?
A. One of the most common eye conditions
A. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is characterized by complete airway obstruction. It often is found, but not limited to, older, overweight men, but also affects significant percentages of women and children as well. If someone in your family has OSA, you will be more likely also to have it.
that have or will affect most individuals in their later years is cataract formation. Cataracts are a common condition of the aging process, and approximately 70 percent of individuals over age 75 have cataracts.
Cataracts are a clouding of the lens of the eye. As a person ages, the protein of the lens becomes dense and opaque. Cataracts start out small but as they progress, they become yellow or brown and impede light from getting to the back of the eye, blurring vision. Although age is the most common cause of cataract formation, they can also be caused by trauma to the eye, use of systemic medications, such as steroids, or by metabolic processes, such as diabetes. Common early symptoms of cataracts are blurred vision and glare, especially at night. As cataracts progress, vision becomes cloudier and if left alone can become so dense that no light can get to the eye and blindness can occur. While cataracts are not a leading cause of blindness in the U.S., they are in other parts of the world. Blindness does not usually occur here because of early detection and education about cataracts. It is imperative to have your eyes checked regularly, especially after the age of 60, to determine if you have cataracts. In the early stages of cataract formation vision may be improved with a change in glasses but ultimately surgery may be required to restore vision. With new advances in cataract surgery, vision improvement begins almost immediately, and an eye patch isn't even needed.

The serious and life-threatening problems start when sleepers begin experiencing apneas, where breathing stops and hypopneas, where breathing is shallow due to an obstruction. Breathing is usually blocked in the back of the throat because: • The tongue and muscles relax during sleep. • The lower jaw falls back toward the throat. • The airway becomes blocked. A typical sequence of OSA occurs when a person stops snoring and is silent for seconds, or minutes. The body’s oxygen level drops and the blood pressure rises. This causes the sleeper to wake briefly and begin breathing. Once asleep again, the muscles relax and the airway becomes blocked, cutting off the airway again. This cycle can occur hundreds of times per night. Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the most common form of sleep apnea. It ranges in severity from mild to moderate, to severe. Other forms of sleep apnea include Central and Mixed Sleep Apnea.

Q. Should I stop movement if I have Osteoarthritis pain?
Q. What is a Brazilian Butt Lift? A. If you’re like many women, you may be
A. Osteoarthritis in the hip joint causes pain envious of celebrities like Kim Kardashian and stiffness. When cartilages and ligaments supporting the hip joint are impinged or worn-out by the osteophytes, also known as the bone spurs, pain becomes worse during movement, as there is decreased support and stability from the cartilages and ligament. Osteoarthritis of the spine called spondylosis shows thinning of cartilage with growth of bone spurs. This is commonly found on the neck and low back region in the X-ray. Symptoms of hip and spinal osteoarthritis begin gradually and worsen slowly over time.
and Jennifer Lopez, who have prominent butts. Genetics and an athletic lifestyle, however, may dictate the appearance of your derriere, causing it to look flat, undefined or even masculine.
I have been treating many patients suffering from osteoarthritis pain; one of the challenges I feel is guiding patients take charge and recognize what they need for dealing with their pain. Patients suffering from osteoarthritis pain tend to decrease their activity levels because of pain, but it’s important to keep moving. Mobilization is the lotion that helps build strong muscles and ligaments that protect the joint for stability, and is a key aspect for decreasing pain and stiffness. Other benefits of mobilization are maintenance of flexibility, improved sleep quality and energetic level.
A Butt Lift is right for individuals who do not like the shape of their buttocks, or are looking to balance their body. It is commonly performed with implants or fat transfer, or a combination of both. The fat transfer procedure, commonly known as a “Brazilian Butt Lift,” is a process that involves taking fat from other parts of the body, purifying it and then re-injecting it back into the body. For symmetry, and to ensure there is enough fat for the whole procedure, the surgeon will typically harvest the fat from two areas of the body.
There are treatment options that are good complements for conventional management and prevention of the osteoarthritis pain. General spinal manipulation and acupuncture combined together with soft tissue therapies such as acupressure points and Tui Na massage are used to manage pain and discomfort. Acupuncture is generally used to stimulate painless hormones released from the brain. Therapeutic exercises are prescribed and guided for improving muscle strength and endurance.

A Butt Lift can increase the roundness, fullness and projection of your buttocks, as well as improve the balance of your figure, thereby enhancing your self-image and selfconfidence.
The fat is removed via liposuction, which in turn contours the areas of the body around the buttocks, such as the area of the back just above the butt, the stomach and the thighs. After purification, special cannulas are used to place the fat into the areas of the buttocks that will make it fuller, rounder and more lifted.
Q. Could the lump I have ever give me a problem?
A. Patients always want to be told by their doctor that something is all right and leave it alone. The truth is that a lump could turn into a bigger problem. A sebaceous cyst is a sac like structure just under the skin that contains a cheese like material called sebum. These cysts can be infected easily and without warning, which can then lead to cellulitis, a serious skin infection that can spread quickly. In a diabetic for example, this simple infection could be disastrous. A sebaceous cyst will never go away without surgical removal of the sac. A cyst can be drained, but the sac will remain and can fill up again, and become infected. Once a sebaceous cyst is removed, it will never come back. A lipoma is a benign soft tissue tumor made up of body fat. They are the most common of soft tissue tumors, and can occur on any skin surface area. As lipomas increase in size though, there have been cases in which malignant (cancerous) transformation has occurred. Approximately 1 percent of the population has a lipoma, and they can occur at any age but most often in age ranges of 40-60 years old. The possibility of a lipoma undergoing a malignant change to a liposarcoma is why most tumors should be removed. The definitive characteristics of a lump are not fully known until it is removed and examined under a microscope.

Q. Are You Ready to Try Acupuncture? A. Ever have a friend or family member
with a medical or mental health issue who has undergone every treatment, procedure and medication(s), and has claimed, “Those doctors just don’t know what’s wrong with me?” Or, “They have tried everything and nothing seems to work.” Then one day, they report their ailment has vanished, or at least diminished to where it isn’t hampering their life at all. When you ask them what happened, they reply, “Acupuncture.” Some are embarrassed that they would be caught engaging in such a ‘voodoo practice.’ Others are ready to broadcast it from the rooftops that finally something worked and brought relief of body, mind and soul. So, what is acupuncture and what can it do for you? Acupuncture is a three thousand-year-old practice originating in China and eventually progressing around the globe and reaching the West during the past 300 years. It involves the insertion of very fine solid needles into acupuncture points on the body in order to balance or clear blocked Qi (Chee). Acupuncture methods encourage the body to promote healing and improve function by influencing three areas of health care: treatment of a large range of medical conditions, health promotion and well-being and prevention of illness. Acupuncture has been instrumental in treating many of our military injured with traumatic brain injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Acupuncture is an effective and well-known treatment for acute and chronic pain conditions. It is a powerful option for people who are tired of taking a list of medications and dealing with their side effects.

A. As my patients tell me, “Getting older isn’t for sissies!” There is a lot you can do for your eyes to promote healthy aging and clear vision. Prevention is the key.
A. While sunscreen and covering up is always, your best defense when playing outside, often-inadequate reapplication of sunscreen or SPF can leave you with sun damage and more brown spots! Q. Is there such a thing as invisible hearing aids without batteries? A. Yes. Lyric® Hearing Aids are a hasslefree, 100 percent invisible hearing solution. Lyric hearing aids are like contact lenses for the ear. Lyric devices can be worn 24/7 for two months at a time. They are placed very close to the eardrum and are worn all day every day. They can be worn in the shower, while exercising, while sleeping and while awake. Most individuals who wear Lyric are scheduled for follow-up appointments every two months to remove the device and replace it with a new one. Lyric can in fact be programmed by your audiologist, so it is tailored for your loss. It works great for mild to moderate hearing loss. Lyric is placed deep in the canal and uses the natural acoustic properties of the ear to filter sound. This works similar to someone with normal hearing. Most individuals using Lyric devices love the way it sounds, and they love the hassle free features that go with it. Lyric is also a great device for individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Lyric can be a completely life changing device. Individuals who have previously worn hearing aids love not having to worry about maintenance, cleaning and storage of the devices. They are impossible to lose. When you wear aids 24/7, it is just one less thing you have to think about.
Q. How does alkalinity affect your health? Q. What are some of the reasons A. According to the Journal of Longevity, someone may not be getting proper many health problems are caused by over nutrition? acidity or reduced alkalinity in the body. Dr. A. Unfortunately, there are some obstacles Theodore A Baroody, author of "Alkalize or to proper nutrition. If someone in your life Die" agrees, saying, "The countless names of seems to be unintentionally losing weight, illnesses do not really matter. What does or has lost interest in food, there are matter is they all come from the same root several things to consider. cause... too much acid in the body." Unfortunately, processed foods, white breads, sugar and red meats are acidic and when we consume too much of them our body's acidalkaline balance is upset. This situation can be reversed by switching from an American diet that is 70 percent acidic to a diet that is 70 percent alkaline. This is done by simply eating more raw fruits and vegetables and adding a supplement like wheatgrass powder. Studies have shown that too much acid in the body can wreck your enzyme balance. Without the necessary digestive enzymes, the body is unable to properly digest all the nutrients it needs. Inadequate digestion puts additional stress on the digestive system, making it harder to distribute essential vitamins and minerals throughout the body. When given the enzymes it needs, the body is more likely to reach and maintain a state of optimal health. Our wheatgrass powder contains over 100 enzymes, has a highly alkalizing effect, and is referred to as "The King of Alkaline Foods." Wheatgrass is considered a superfood that has helped in eliminating many health conditions. On our website, we have testimonies of some who have been helped by consuming our wheatgrass.
Some of the most common obstacles to good nutrition include mouth sores/pain, tooth loss, gum disease and ill-fitting dentures. A trip to the dentist may be needed. Some diseases, like Parkinson’s, cause difficulty chewing or swallowing, and some medical treatments and medications can cause a loss of appetite as well. Discuss the possibilities with your doctor and ask for possible solutions. Isolation and loneliness can lead to a loss of appetite or cause a lack of interest in preparing nutritious meals. It may be helpful to have someone help prepare meals or have homebound meal delivery service. For some, transportation issues make it difficult to shop for groceries. Not everyone is willing to ask for help or knows about services available when they are needed. Uncovering the reason behind the nutritional deficiency is the key to resolving the issue. Q. With cooler fall temperatures nearly Q. I know about Medicare’s Open here, why should I plan a visit to Wildlife Enrollment Period but why should I World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park? review my plan every year?
A. For most families today, connecting with A. The simple answer is because “things” change.
wildlife and wild places isn't easy given our modern, hectic and increasingly urban lifestyles. Ultimately, this growing disconnect between humans, the outdoors and the creatures that call it home spells trouble for all living things, including us. For example, current data compiled by the IUCN suggests that roughly 1 in 4 species of mammals is threatened with extinction. Even worse, nearly 1/3 of all amphibians (about 2000 species) are threatened with extinction. The resulting loss of biodiversity threatens our health and well-being, too, according to the IUCN. Thus, zoos and aquariums are more important than ever before in part, because they help reconnect people, especially children, with a bit of Nature. One of the hallmarks of Wildlife World has been to create a family friendly experience that brings animals and visitors closer together through innovative habitats and educational displays. For example, Wildlife World was the first zoo anywhere to build a public lory parrot feeding. Another popular destination is the giraffe feeding station. While these and other interactive animal experiences are meant to be fun, they also serve a much greater purpose – to introduce people of all ages to wildlife through safe and meaningful encounters. It’s not only healthy for us to make those connections with other living things, but it also helps build public support for wildlife and habitat conservation. So take some time this fall season to enjoy a fun day and evening at Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park.

Here are just a few examples of what those changes might be: •Lifestyle •Health •Physicians •Benefits •Cost of care Even subtle changes to any of the above can greatly affect the performance of your health plan. Residing in AZ provides many health plan options to those enrolled in Medicare. The majority of Medicare beneficiaries have chosen medical coverage in addition to “traditional” Medicare. One of those options is a Medicare Advantage plan and although they all offer very comprehensive protection they can also vary greatly from plan to plan and year to year. If you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan you receive an “Annual Notice of Change” each October explaining any and/or all changes made to your benefits for the coming year. The annual Open Enrollment Period allows those with Medicare the opportunity to explore and learn about all options available to them on Jan. 1. Unlike other times throughout the year, this seven-week period of Oct. 15 – Dec. 7 allow changes without restrictions. It’s important to learn and understand the differences and options available before a well-informed decision should be made. I recommend making an appointment with a trusted professional who specializes in serving the Medicare community to provide this important information. The TRB team consists of well trained, licensed, certified, and caring independent insurance agents who represent every major Medicare plan in Arizona. We provide current and accurate information allowing our clients the peace of mind and confidence to choose the best plan to meet their individual needs.

FAMILY, KIDS & RELATIONSHIPS By Dr. Anne Brennan Malec, clinical psychologist and marriage/family therapist, and author of Marriage in Modern Life: Why It Works, When It Works
Communication in Relationships Married couples should have plenty to say to each other, but research says communication is one of the issues they struggle with most. Part of the problem may be that communication is a twoway street, requiring both partners to do it well. And some subjects are more ticklish than others to bring up. Healthy couple communication is not just about expressing your needs, but also about being an active listener and desiring to understand your partner’s perspective. For couples, communication is like oxygen. The relationship needs it to stay alive. Couples sometimes avoid difficult conversations and conflict because they fear it will turn ugly. When it comes to communicating, there are a few traps to watch out for and some effective strategies to employ.
Getting passive-aggressive. Some people act out their
feelings instead of talking about them. That’s called being passive-aggressive and as a relationship strategy it ranks near the bottom. You say one thing and do another, or worse, you say nothing but roll your eyes or sigh dramatically. This communicates judgment and contempt, which is disrespectful to your partner.
be a way to head off problems instead of causing them, and can be if the right steps are taken. Have at least a 20minute daily check-in. This is a time to catch up on the day’s events and talk about what’s coming up the next day. Done right, it can lead to smoother mornings in getting yourselves and the kids out of the house.
People usually act passive-aggressively because discussing their thoughts, feelings, and opinions makes them uncomfortable or seems too risky. An example is when a partner agrees to do something they have no intention of doing just to get the spouse to stop nagging. Passiveaggressive habits foster distance between partners so it’s absolutely necessary to replace them with healthier communication strategies to restore the connection.
Addressing the bigger picture. In addition to short

don’t communicate their needs or desires because they expect their partner to somehow know. Expecting your partner to know intuitively what you want without saying it sets your partner up to fail. None of us are mind readers.
It’s far more effective, and people stand a much greater chance of getting their needs met, when they learn to share their thoughts directly.
Checking in. Communication often devolves into a heated argument over the family’s latest crisis, or involves the resurrection of old grievances. But communicating should 44

daily check-ins, couples should schedule weekly sessions to discuss bigger-picture items. That might include financial goals, work issues or parenting concerns. Some couples do better if the agenda is set ahead of time. A spoken agenda works fine for a lot of people. But conflictridden couples may need a written agenda to stay focused and keep the conversation running smoothly.
For many of us, our natural instinct is to avoid situations that feel complicated and confrontational. But keeping and maintaining a successful marriage depends on learning how to fight the ‘avoidance’ instinct and discuss difficult issues.

It’s common knowledge that cane sugar is unhealthy—it raises blood sugar and weakens the immune system, which can cause many health conditions such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. Here are five alternatives to sugar.
Organic Honey. Honey remains the holy grail of natural
sweeteners. Not chemically altered from its natural form, it contains small amounts of vitamins and minerals, including niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and zinc Uses: sweeten peanut butter sandwiches and add to breakfast foods like pancakes and smoothies.
Maple Syrup contains an antioxidant called polyphenols
that has been shown in studies to prevent cancer and other diseases. Uses: Maple syrup can be used instead of store bought pancake syrup, which is likely processed and contains numerous chemical additives. It can also be used for baking—use equal parts syrup to cane sugar in recipes for cookies and cakes.
Organic Brown Rice Syrup. The less known of the
natural sweeteners, Brown Rice Syrup is arguable less sweet with a mild flavor and thick consistency. The milder taste is result from of fact that this syrup is a complex carbohydrate extracted from whole grain rice, so it contains less natural sugar and processes more slowly in the body. Uses: Alternative for corn syrup, homemade granola bars.
Pureed or Mashed Organic Fruit. Another easy fix to
replace sugar in baking for kids is to use pureed or mashed fruit. Whole fruit contains the fiber and protein that is removed from fruit juice, so liquefying whole pieces of fruit is a more nutritious option than fruit juice. Uses: Bananas, apples, or berries can take the place of sugar when making muffins, can be added to pancakes and smoothies, and poured over oatmeal or other hot cereal.
Organic Agave. With a low glycemic index, agave doesn’t make blood sugar in the body to spike as much as cane sugar does. Uses: Add to smoothies, pancakes and cereal.

DECORATE & IMPROVE
By MS
Converting a Kid's Room into an Adult Space When a young adult leaves the comforts of home to set out on his or her own, homeowners are left with a bedroom that just calls out to be made over. However, the experience of a child leaving the nest can be bittersweet, and some parents struggle with the decision to renovate or leave the room intact. Converting a room can be an emotional process, but there are several different ways to put a newly vacated room to good use. What to do with a room may hinge on who still lives in the house. Another child, for instance, may be interested in upgrading to the room if it is larger or has amenities that the previous bedroom does not offer, like a better view or a bigger closet. Some have plans for a craft space or a library. Perhaps the room would be perfect for a man cave or a quiet sitting area. Keep in mind that the room may hold sentimental value for the child, so converting the space is not something that should happen abruptly or without prior notice given to the former occupant. Communication is key before the room can be permanently changed into a new room. To get started, follow these guidelines.
Start slowly. Broach the subject with the former occupant of the room to gauge his or her reaction to the idea. If your child is supportive, then the process may move along more quickly. If not, you may need to wait a little longer before starting the renovation.
Go through the room's contents together. Your child may feel his or her private sanctums were violated if you simply box up belongings, and ready them to be taken away. Instead, go through the room together and allow your son or daughter to pack away items of sentimental value. Other items can be donated. Consider which pieces of furniture might be kept and repurposed.
Keep some items of value. Remember, you don't want your child to feel like his or her identity has been erased from the house. Find a way to incorporate something from the bedroom into the new design to pay homage to the person who lived and grew up in the room. Keep a square of removed wallpaper and frame it. Put some wellread childhood books on a shelf. Have a place of honor for the first soccer trophy. This way when your child returns home there will still be a piece of the room's former identity. 46 September 2015 | azhealthandliving.com
Work through your new design plan. Before removing
furniture and any items, draw up a detailed renovation plan and establish a budget. If the room will become a guest room, the basics may already be there and you simply need to introduce new linens and a new paint color to transform the space. Consider keeping the room functional as a sleeping space in some way — whether moving in a sleeper sofa or making a regular bed into a daybed —so when your son or daughter comes to visit, he or she will have a comfortable space.
Make it sophisticated. Adult spaces differ from children's spaces in their sophistication. Starting fresh with more streamlined furniture and bolder colors in the room will give it a grown-up look. Converting a child's former bedroom into a new and exciting living space for adults takes some planning and sensitivity. A collaborative effort between parent and child can make the process can go much more smoothly.
Ways to Eliminate Allergy Triggers in Your Home Provided by the Pro.com Team
Once upon a time, Arizona was considered the perfect place for allergy sufferers. However, as the local population continues to boom and more plants and greenery are imported and combined with the dry desert air, allergies can flare up for almost everyone. As we’re still dealing with 100+ degree temperatures and spending much of our time indoors, getting the allergy triggers out of the home is the first step to finding relief. Here are 10 simple things that help alleviate the misery of living with allergies.
Identify Your Triggers. The first step in managing your allergies are to know what sets them off to begin with. If you can’t pinpoint what you are allergic to, an allergist can help identify your triggers. Install Allergy-Friendly Window Dressing. Avoid installing window dressings that are allergy magnets such as frilly curtains or venetian blinds. Opt for metallic blinds that can easily be dusted or simple drapes that are machine washable.
Mold-Proof Your Bathroom. Your bathroom can be a

If you have wallpaper on your bathroom walls, replace it immediately with mold-resistant paint or with tile to eliminate the walls absorbing moisture and growing mold. Be sure to always air out your bathroom by using the fan during showers and opening windows when possible.

using a hard shell contained vacuum cleaner or one that uses a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) vacuum bag to prevent allergens from blowing back out as conventional ones will do. Vacuum your home 1–2 times a week and always empty out your vacuum outdoors.
Allergy-Friendly Containers. When storing items away, avoid cardboard boxes as they are magnets for mold. Instead, stash away items in waterproof plastic containers that will prevent mold buildup, and bonus, it makes it easier to see into when you need to find something in particular.
Limit Your Clutter. A cluttered home is more than just a visual annoyance - dust and allergens can build up in the stacks of random items you intend to get to “someday.” Ditch the old magazines and piles of toys your kids no longer play with. Also minimize the number of decorations you keep – they can be sneaky collectors of troublemaking dust.

They cost a little more, but the allergy sufferers in your family will greatly benefit from these filters since they capture 99 percent of airborne allergy triggers including pollen, bacteria and fumes.
Allergy-Proof Pets. You may not be directly allergic to your pet family member, however, their fur can be a magnet for allergy triggers. They can roll around plants or the floor, picking up pollen and dust. Banning them from furniture and your bed may be hard, so give your pets a good washing once a week to lower the risk for allergens.
Maintain Your A/C Unit. Clean your A/C unit of debris and leaves to prevent mold spores from entering your home. Check your yard to ensure there aren’t pies of decaying compost with spores inside that the wind can carry and flow into your open windows. azhealthandliving.com | September 2015

Tips to Avoid Weight Gain as You Age
By Provided by TOPS Club, Inc.® (Take Off Pounds Sensibly®)
Many know all too well that there are no shortcuts to lasting weight loss, particularly because real weight loss requires real change: change of perspective, change of habits, change of routine, and change of attitude. This is true no matter what your age happens to be. But it’s also true that as you age, you face different challenges as your body, responsibilities, priorities, and life circumstances change. Consider the following recommendations to overcome obstacles and feel healthier than ever.
30s. Career and family demands may leave you feeling short on time, all the time. Choose fruit, nuts, and yogurt on the go, rather than skipping a meal and ‘making up for it’ later. This could cause you to get so hungry that you end up binge eating.
• If you have young children, they may want sugary snacks or other foods that aren’t good for them – or you. Be mindful about snacking with your children. You don’t need to eat a cookie (or two) every time they do. Avoid eating what they leave on their plates. • Fill the fridge and cupboards with healthy options. By choosing well at the grocery store, you and your family will have good choices available at home. • If you can’t make it to a gym, find other opportunities to stay active. Park as far as is practical from your destination, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and go on walks, even if they’re short – such as during a break at work.
40s. Your metabolism will start to slow down. We lose about 5 percent of our metabolic rate for each decade of aging, according to some estimates.
• Heat up your body’s furnace by eating healthy calories in the morning, including high-fiber foods to keep you satisfied well into the day. • Maintaining, or even building, muscle mass is a key way to combat a slower metabolism. Consider investing time and money in a personal trainer. Even just a few sessions can help you learn strength training techniques and routines that you perform on your own. • Men experience a gradual loss of testosterone, which can mean lower energy over time. Most women will experience hormonal changes, including declining estrogen and progesterone levels, which can lead to fatigue. It may seem counterintuitive, but regular exercise, such as a 30-minute walk most days, can increase your energy.
• Also, aim to get at least seven hours of sleep each night. If you feel tired, try a short nap to catch up on sleep and feel refreshed.
50s. Effects of excess weight, including elevated blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and arthritis, are most likely to appear beginning in this decade.
• Your metabolism will continue to slow down, and you will likely gain weight unless you make changes to your diet. • Avoid using food to deal with stress. Be deliberate about finding alternative ways to unwind and relax. • Strategically replace high-calorie foods or drinks with lower-calorie ones.
60s. If you retire from a full-time job outside of the home,
you may go from being partially active to being inactive. But don’t retire to the couch. • Pursue new interests, passions, goals and activities, or take the time to rekindle old ones. • Gather a group of friends for a game of tennis or a round of golf, or buddy up with someone for regular walks. • Try activities to help you improve your flexibility, such as yoga. • You may feel some limits in what your body can do. For example, you may experience joint pain or difficulty with balance. Listen to your body at any given moment to avoid doing harm in the course of trying to stay healthy or lose weight. azhealthandliving.com | September 2015

Beauty
FEEL GOOD & REJUVENATE
By Ms
Hair Care Made Simple Hair is typically taken for granted until something goes awry. Hair loss can result from genetics, disease or poor hair hygiene. While there's little a person can do about genetics or hair loss related to illness, good hair hygiene should be a part of everyone's beauty and grooming regimen. A good head of hair can enhance a person's appearance. Hair hygiene is important, but many do not know where to begin, and myths abound when it comes to hair care. It's time to wash away the fiction from the facts.
There is no need to shampoo every day. Some think
they'll be left with a head of dirty, smelly hair if they do not lather up every day, but this is inaccurate. Most people can go a day or more between washing their hair, and waiting between washes actually can be beneficial. According to Paradi Mirmirani, M.D., a dermatologist in California specializing in hair research, hair is fiber, and the more you wash it, the worse it's going to look. People with curly, dry, or processed hair can probably go longer between washings than those with thin, straight hair. This enables oils from the scalp to travel down the hair shaft and keep the cuticle healthy.
Conditioner can keep hair smooth and shiny. Some
question the necessity for conditioner while others can't live without it. Those with coarse or dry hair usually find that conditioning a few times a week is necessary to tame hair and keep it shiny and looking healthy. On the flip side, those with naturally moist hair may not need to use conditioner more than once per week. Overuse of conditioner can actually contribute to making hair look dull, dry and weighed down. People with thin hair may only want to apply conditioner to the ends so as not to make hair flat and heavy. Many people need to experiment with conditioner to find a routine that works.
More lather isn't necessarily better. Contrary to popular
belief, shampoos that generate mounds of rich lather are not necessarily better for your hair. Sulfates are commonly used as lathering agents and may be the first ingredients in many commercially produced shampoos. Sulfates make water feel more wet and spread cleaning ingredients from the shampoo more readily across the hair shaft. However, these same cleansers can dehydrate the sebaceous glands and strip the scalp of essential oils and natural moisture. Many stylists recommend sulfate-free shampoos because they are more gentle on the hair. People who color their hair may find a sulfate-free shampoo helps retain their hair color longer. 50 September 2015 | azhealthandliving.com
Brushing can be beneficial. While you may not need
100 strokes of the hairbrush to achieve shiny hair, brushing hair gently each day can untangle the hair and help transfer oils from the scalp down the hair shaft and throughout the hair. The key is not to brush too often or too vigorously. Look for a brush with long, plastic bristles that bend. A brush with a rubber base with vents is also good. Do not brush so hard that you scratch your scalp or tear out hair from the roots. The goal is to prevent breakage. Many hair situations not only can be remedied at home, but a person can also consult with a stylist to develop a hair care routine. People experiencing hair problems that are not easily fixed should speak to dermatologists, as such problems may be symptoms of medical issues.
How to Banish Those Gray Hairs By MS
Roughly, one in five Americans uses hair dye to enhance their looks or hide gray hair. But concerns about gray hair and looking older are not exclusive to the United States. The trouble with gray hair – and specially hair close to the temples – is that such hair tends to be coarser and more resistant to absorbing hair color than other hair. It can be difficult to cover the gray hairs, and then once it is dyed, gray hair may end up showing prematurely. Gray hair results from the hair cortex, or the middle layer of the hair, losing both the yellow and red pigments that are normally present in the strands. In order to successfully cover grays, these pigments need to be replaced using dyes that have red, yellow and blue bases. Shades characterized as "neutral" are usually the best bets. Avoid ash colors, which tend to have a blue, green or violet base. The hair shaft will pick up the underlying color but not absorb the intended color. Resistant grays may need the color solution to remain on much longer than is normal or recommended. Sometimes it can take up to 45 minutes for resistant grays to absorb dye. Certain manufacturers make dyes that are designed specifically for gray hair and allow for better penetration. Sometimes gray hair may need to be pre-softened with peroxide before color application. The peroxide will raise the hair shaft and enable the color to penetrate better. Coloring hair at home is possible but may not produce the most desirable results, and there is a greater chance of user error with drugstore coloring products. When making drastic changes to hair color, it may be best to consult with a professional stylist and discuss color preferences. The stylist can then create a custom color and apply it evenly to ensure complete coverage. He or she will also have the timing down pat so gray hair is covered completely and effectively. azhealthandliving.com | September 2015

EXCEL & ACHIEVE
career, business & Finance By Cameron Herold, business development expert and author of Double Double, www.DoubleDoubleBook.com
Business Growth CEOs & entrepreneurs shouldn’t sell their vision short Variety in business is generally good, but when it comes to profit and revenue, an entrepreneur’s expectations should be fairly singular – go big. Otherwise, you’re probably selling yourself short. If you’re a CEO or entrepreneur and you do not plan on doubling your profit and revenue within the next three years, you may be lacking focus. It’s within your grasp to increase your business drastically within a few years, but you need to make several smaller goals in order to do so. It all starts with a vivid vision. How to cultivate that vision:
Get out of your office A vision needs perspective, and if you’re waiting for inspiration to strike at your desk or the boardroom conference table, you’re bound to get dragged into the daily routine. You need to allow your mind to drift into the future, but at the office you will get pulled back into specific constraints. Go somewhere that allows you to forget metrics, daily tasks and obligations. Great locations to set your mind free include the ocean, a forest, or a place in the mountains. Or, simply lie down in a hammock in your backyard and start sketching ideas.
Turn off your computer Computers are notorious for sucking you into the vortex of daily emails and tasks. Instead, put pen to paper. There’s magic in just writing it all-out by hand first.
Think “where” and not “how” Look at the road in front of you. Don’t focus on how you’ll make it happen. The “how” mentality is sort of like trying to edit a first draft before it is written; the “where” mentality allows you to simply get your ideas out first. Where do you want your company to go? Look 52 September 2015 | azhealthandliving.com
down the road, see what you see and let the view have its moment. Don’t get ahead of yourself. The how will have its day.
Think outside the box Getting out of your comfort zone will change your usual thought patterns and spark creativity. Think about crazy stuff – maybe something too outlandish to share at a meeting or even consider seriously. Use a technique called ‘mind-mapping,’ which isn’t so much formal writing as it is plopping down random thoughts onto paper and fleshing them out later. Mindmapping allows you to brainstorm without having to provide explanations of strategies for achieving the desired goal. Here’s a good rule: if what you think about during one these sessions seems bizarre or unlikely, it’s something you should definitely include in your vision.
Can Business Books Leverage Your Success? By Adam Witty, founder and CEO of Advantage Media Group, www.advantagefamily.com, The Business Growth Publisher™
Innovation is the marrow that keeps an organization thriving. Sometimes, a term is used so often that you have to wonder whether it still retains meaning, but I think innovation describes something that’s essential for business-minded dreamers who live in the real world. We know that books empower readers, but what many overlook is how books empower authors – it gives experts further say as the ultimate authority in their space. Entrepreneurs, small-business owners, professional speakers, attorneys, doctors, financial advisors, coaches, philanthropists and many more all either ascend or descend based on their credibility. A book is an innovative way to leverage one’s expertise and tip the scales in a favorable direction.
Turn clients into fans The most profitable companies in the world boast the most fanatical clients and customers. Think about Apple, which does many things very, very well. One of them is servicing the customer first. And Apple excels in communicating its mission to its audience. A book does both of those things. Profiting from book sales is not the point; you will have serviced readers with information, which may be free, and gotten across your messaging simply by having a book available.
Expand your gravitas Positioning yourself as the go-to person in your field may seem like a hopeless task considering the sheer amount of competition there is vying for everyone’s attention. Work, school, children, TV, social media, and the endless sea of websites keep most people engaged at nearly every turn. Published authors, however, are part of 0.04 percent of the global population, which is a nice differentiation rate considering most professionals today have websites.
current customers. Referrals involve a trusted recommendation from a family member or friend, who validates a business with the currency of trust. Books are an investment. If someone reads your book – or simply knows you have one – you become part of that currency of trust.
Talk it out!
Earn quantity and quality
Of course, successful entrepreneurs, CEOs and other experts are smart and have plenty of insightful things to say, but getting it down just right in book form is timeconsuming. At least, it used to be.
A goldmine of new customers come from referrals, which spend an average of five times more with businesses than a customer acquired through general marketing or advertising. Most profitable businesses report that much more than 70 percent of new clients result from referrals made by

Diane Kruger
The busy actress embraces the beauty of aging German actress and former fashion model Diane Kruger will celebrate the big 4-0 next year, and instead of dreading her birthday like many Hollywood starlets, she appears to be embracing the idea that women only gain beauty and wisdom, as they grow older. “I want to age gracefully and I don’t judge those who get injections. But we can’t age backwards, so you have to embrace it sometime,” Kruger told Harper's Bazaar Australia in their November 2014 issue. Originally, a fashion model, German-born Kruger is a multifaceted star. She’s trilingual (French, German and English), has graced magazine covers and ads internationally, and has starred in seemingly countless movies for more than a decade. Some of her highlighted roles include Troy, National Treasure, The Host, Unknown and more. In addition to the big screen, she starred in the FX television crime drama series The Bridge. According to multiple sources, she also has several films in the works, including Fathers and Daughters, Disorder and Sky. She is currently filming The Infiltrator, which is due out next year. Recently, she talked to Elle Canada about her projects. “I co-produced Sky with one of my best friends, director Fabienne Berthaud. She’s very near and dear to my heart. I’ve known her since I was 16—she gave me my first job, so we have this really intense relationship! It’s a story about a couple who travels to the United States on holiday to save their marriage, and it doesn’t go so well. I love the way it looks at relationships and the self-discovery that happens when you are forced 54

to go through a certain set of circumstances,” Kruger tells Elle Canada. Even though she is acting more often than modeling, she still is a big player on the Hollywood fashion scene. This year, she won an Elle Style Award for best movie actress. When asked why she made the transition from modeling to acting, Kruger told Elle Canada: “…What I enjoy most about a performance is that you can identify with the emotions and the people being portrayed. There are beautiful people who can act, and there are unattractive people who become so beautiful when you watch them because you empathize with them fully. To me, that is the beauty of acting —it’s a reflection of what it is to be a human being.” Still, Kruger is known to still model occasionally because it reminds her of her roots. "I've always been impressed by the art and beauty of fashion and that world. I enjoy doing photo shoots from time to time because that's where I got my start in the business. I've also been very lucky to get to know Karl Lagerfeld and he's been a good friend and a huge influence on me," she tells Hello!, a British magazine. But, for all of her success, Kruger is known to be down to earth and takes the Hollywood lifestyle in stride. “Red carpets are a stressful, bizarre situation. Imagine having all those people yell at you and take photos. Not the most comfortable moment. It’s ridiculous. Honestly, I just don’t care what people say. It’s not worth worrying about. I care about the film I’ve just made and what my boyfriend says when I walk out of the door,” she tells Harper's Bazaar Australia. STAY HEALTHY
aging well By John Pankauski, author of Pankauski’s Trustee's Guide: 10 Steps to Family Trustee Excellence and Pankauski Law Firm
Insights for Choosing a Trustee The greatest transfer of wealth in history is happening right now, according to a study from the Boston College Center on Wealth and Philanthropy. A staggering amount – $59 trillion – is projected to be passed down to heirs, charities, and taxes between 2007 and 2061. We are in the middle of a massive, unprecedented wealth transfer from the World War II generation to the Baby Boomers, and then to subsequent generations. But much of that wealth will not be given to beneficiaries outright. Instead, it will be held in a trust, which is a distinct entity, much like a corporation. The trust is managed by a trustee, who protects the trust property for the benefit of the beneficiaries. Sounds good – as long as trustees are honest individuals who don’t use the trust as a personal ATM, and simmering rivalries among beneficiaries don’t explode. Some trusts will be competently managed. Others will be abused in a number of ways the creator of the trust had not intended. The best way to ensure money is handled correctly – and honestly – is to pick the right trustee, but the right one may not be obvious.
Don’t choose just anyone Family members, friends, and even felons theoretically could be entrusted with managing an inheritor’s money. But tread carefully. Your hard-earned money could be fought over, misspent, or squandered if you leave inheritances in a haphazard way or choose a trustee who handles the trust improperly. A family member often is chosen, but he warns that can lead to ill will among relatives. The decision on the trustee should be 60

treated like a business consideration, not a personal one.
Multiple trustees are allowed, but can cause problems Personal relationships that were previously cordial can turn icy when there are multiple trustees. Co-trustees administer the trust by majority rule unless the trust document demands unanimous decisions. A common problem is there are two co-trustees who don’t get along, but must agree on everything. It may make sense to have a third co-trustee, such as an impartial trust attorney or bank or trust company, to serve as the tiebreaker.
Perspective on whether to be a trustee: • “I am trusted, but should I be a trustee?” Being a trustee is a great responsibility. Perfection is not required,
but incompetence won’t be tolerated. Criticisms could flow freely. If you’re holding a lot of cash and the markets go up, beneficiaries complain that you failed to capture those gains. If you’re fully invested in the market and the market takes a dip, the beneficiaries complain that you are overexposed. If one of six beneficiaries requests funds for a minor child’s education, the other five will want a similar distribution—regardless of need. You may be fairly compensated for your duties as trustee, but the money may not be worth the potential headaches. • You don’t have to accept the appointment. You can decline to serve. Merely sign a one-page document, which can be as brief as a sentence, stating you decline. No reason is required. Deliver your statement, and a copy of the trust, including all original documents you have, to the beneficiaries and the successor trustee named in the trust document. If no successor trustee is named, you should notify the beneficiaries in writing that you decline to serve and they should retain counsel to protect their interests.
Change Your Thoughts. Change Your Words. Change Your World. Sponsored by
You can agree to serve and later resign. But doing so raises a host of issues. You can’t just ditch your duties. You are still in charge until there is a smooth transition to a successor. Regardless of whether you plan to create a trust, or you have been appointed trustee of one, you will want to seek legal counsel. The laws that govern the management of a trust vary from state to state and evolve over time. The right guidance is essential.

STAY HEALTHY
aging well By Michael Bivona, a retired CPA and author of Retiring? Beware!! Don’t Run Out of Money and Don’t Become Bored
Fulfilling Your Retirement Lifestyle Most people have some kind of lifestyle vision for retirement. Unfortunately, without proper planning their dreams won’t always become a reality as they enter the encore time of their lives. Pre-retirees and retirees are rightly concerned about whether they can afford retirement. But not having enough to do is another kind of deficit that is frequently overlooked until it’s too late. Possible avenues to explore for a fulfilling retirement lifestyle:
Develop a social network with senior civic centers Civic centers, which usually have a department dedicated to the betterment of the senior citizens who live in their areas, can be found in almost every municipality in the United States. These centers offer a wide range of activities. Additionally, the following online search, “Fun Activities for Senior Citizens,” offers a nice list of activities and associated details that can be explored prior to retiring.
Try on a pair of dancing shoes For some, the thought of dancing may elicit a strong sense of aversion, but you may want to try it anyway. The benefits include exercise, coordination, and possibly enjoying a romantic hobby with your spouse or others. Dancing is a beautiful art form that gives participants something with which to challenge themselves. A goal-oriented mindset is a healthy one especially when approaching the encore years.
Make the most of your travels Traveling is a common bucket list item for most retirees. Of course, it’s going to cost you. That’s why this is a subject that perfectly combines the two great concerns for retirement: money and purpose, both of which can be maximized with research, research, research. You might even parlay traveling with another interest, such as your family history. You may learn about your roots at www.ancestory.com, and then visit areas based on your 62

research. Or, you may be more interested in stretching your dollar. There are many cost effective deals to be had by researching your heart’s desire on the Internet.
Stay sharp and keep learning The mind is much like the body: If you don’t use it you will accelerate the process of losing it. Building bridges to new adventures is the key to maintaining your mental acuity and increasing your vitality. There are an abundance of educational courses developed for seniors to keep them exercising their mental prowess. Remember, if you started working in your twenties and retire in your sixties, there’s a good chance you’ll spend as many years in retirement as you did working. So building bridges to what you want to do in a rational manner for your encore years is imperative if the last phase of your life is to be enjoyable for you and your loved ones.
Regulatory Changes & Retirement Savings By Bryan S. Slovon, founder and CEO of Stuart Financial Group
Investors who count on their retirement accounts to see them through their golden years sometimes find that those savings add up to less than anticipated. One reason: Broker fees they either didn’t realize they were paying, or which were higher than need be. But that could be changing. The Obama administration has proposed tougher regulations that officials say would curb “hidden” fees and broker conflicts of interest that can siphon off savings. The proposal, with details still being hashed out in Washington, D.C., would broaden the definition of which investment advisors are considered fiduciaries, putting them under greater scrutiny of the Department of Labor if they don’t put their clients’ interests ahead of their own. Right now, many investment advisors are only required to consider whether an investment is suitable for their clients. They can steer the clients to investments that cost more, that are proprietary to the firm for which they work, or yield lower returns, but result in fatter commissions or fees for the advisors and their firm. This change is a big deal because a fiduciary has a higher level of responsibility. A lot of the details are still being ironed out, though, and it’s possible it could drive up costs as companies redo their (investment) products. Also, it’s worth noting that sometimes the fees are already low and it’s not an issue. The government estimates there could be $40 billion in savings for investors over the next 10 years. Whether that estimate proves accurate or not, it is true that big savings are possible when fees are lower. For example, just a one percentage-point difference can lower savings by more than 25 percent over 35 years. Let’s say you had a $100,000 retirement account that grew at 5 percent annually over 35 years. A 1 percent lower return would reduce the value of that account by more than $156,000. That is huge. Here are some suggestions for investors, regardless of what happens with the proposed changes in Washington:
Know and understand your fees. Retirement-plan holders should look at and understand their fees, which are
accessible through websites or prospectuses. And don’t just concentrate, for example, on fees for mutual funds. Dig deeper for any miscellaneous fees that might not be as obvious. The information is there, but you may need to do more research by sifting through plan documents or by checking with someone at the company where you work, if your retirement plan is through your workplace.
Review your family’s risk tolerance. Too often, the
people who advise you on your retirement accounts don’t look at your overall financial picture. They know about your retirement plan that they manage, but may not know about other accounts you hold elsewhere or know nothing about your tax information. Another key issue is taking into account how much money your spouse has and if their retirement savings are to be included for both of you in your retirement income plan. Perhaps it’s a second marriage for you or your spouse. It’s important for a financial advisor to look at your family’s unique situation and be comprehensive.
Consider your health situation. People have two major concerns going into retirement. The first is outliving their money. People may work for 30 or 40 years, but then have nearly that much time in retirement. The second concern is health care costs. For example, there are still lots of questions revolving around the Affordable Care Act and how it might affect expenses. Also, the majority of Americans don’t do any long-term care planning, even though many people will end up in need of some sort of care, such as a nursing home or assisted-living facility. These are details that a comprehensive fiduciary advisor will take into consideration. Knowing your specific situation and understanding your family’s needs and goals is the only way an advisor can give big picture investment advice. azhealthandliving.com | September 2015

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called failure, a loop called confusion, speed bumps called friends, red lights called enemies, caution lights called family. You will have flats called jobs. But, if you have a spare called determination, an engine called perseverance, insurance called faith and a driver named Jesus—you will make it to a place called success.” – Author Unknown
