It’s not in your head.
Bring more pleasure back into your life &
BECOME A MORE INTIMATE YOU!
T
he loss of sexual pleasure and enjoyment is not in your head. Pregnancy, childbirth, perimenopause, menopause, and the natural aging process all have an impact on the appearance, tightness, and lubrication of a woman’s vagina. These
changes can all diminish a woman’s pleasure and desire for sexual intimacy. Lack of sexual intimacy can have a detrimental effect on a woman’s well-being, overall happiness, and contentment in a relationship-by both partners! Don’t let discomfort hinder your pleasure at any age. Additional benefits of the procedure are visible plumpness and improved aesthetic appearance as well as treatment of urinary leakage or stress incontinence.
What do you do? Now there’s a pain-free, risk-free, non-surgical solution that brings immediate relief with no side effects. It’s ThermiVa-a better alternative to invasive and risky vaginal surgery, which is painful and requires a long, sex-free recovery period-not exactly the first step you want to take in rebuilding intimacy and sexual satisfaction. What is ThermiVa? ThermiVa treatments are administered in a series of three appointments, spaced 4 weeks apart. Each one is only about 30 minutes and requires no downtime afterward, women are able to return to normal activities as soon as they walk out and many report having improved intimacy that night with both parties noticing a difference! ThermiVa delivers comfortable controlled heat, generated by radiofrequency through a small proble. This heat causes tissues to contract and restores tightness, while stimulating the production of collagen to increase moisture and lubrication. Both of which lead to an improved vaginal appearance and function leading to enhanced intimacy, confidence, and ultimately satisfaction. This regenerated pelvic floor strength is also what aids in issues of urinary stress incontinence.
After all, what other treatment has a 100% patient satisfaction rating?

Relief is right here in the West Valley Dr. Kukurin was named a Top Chiropractor by the Consumers Research Council of America. He is listed in Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare. With over 20 years of experience using acupuncture, chiropracticand science based nutritional therapies, the results produced by our methods have been featured on local TV newscasts, published in scientific journals, indexed in the National Library of Medicine and have been presented Knee Pain at medical conferences at Johns Hopkins and the Peripheral Nerve Society.
Diabetic Neuropathy, Peripheral Neuropathy Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, Plantar Fasciitis If you are suffering from lower back, buttocks and or leg pain or your feet or legs are cramping, numb or burning especially at night, you almost certainly have a condition which involves the nerves of the legs. The largest nerve in the body, the sciatic nerve (pictured in red to the right), starts in the lower back, runs through the muscles of the buttocks and down to the tip of the toes. If this nerve gets irritated, you can experience really terrible pain anywhere along the course of the nerve. You may also experience burning, numbness and odd sensations in your muscles. Irritation of this nerve may produce severe cramping or crawling sensations in your muscles. Of course, your back and leg pain can be caused by a pinched nerve in your lower back. This can be from a vertebra that is out of place, it can be caused by a slipped disc or it can be caused by spinal stenosis or any combination of these problems. Each of these conditions, bad discs, spinal stenosis or displaced vertebrae have very different treatments. Knowing exactly why you have your back and leg troubles is absolutely essential for effective care.

Spinal Stenosis, Sciatica, Lower Back, Hip and Leg Pain
So how do you find results? The answer is called Integrative Neurology. Neurology is the study of the nerves. This allows us to diagnose tough nerve conditions like spinal stenosis, disc problems and neuropathy. What happens next truly separates our integrative neurology approach from anything else available to help correct lower back, hip, leg and foot problems. We have pioneered techniques to decompress nerves, but also use a number of natural substances that have been shown in recent scientific studies to help nerves re-grow and repair. There are no current drugs that can do this. But that’s not all. We combine special electrical stimulation techniques with acupuncture. A combination that has been shown to correct abnormal nerve function and promote nerve repair. There simply is no better or more comprehensive system for diagnosing and correcting the cause of spinal stenosis, neuropathy and other conditions that cause lower back, hip and leg pain and numbness. To find out how we can help you or learn more about our award winning doctor and treatments, visit our website at www.kcpv.info or if you need help now, call us at . You’ll be glad you did!

esa podiatric practice offers comprehensive care
In July 201 , Dr. Thomas Chambers took over Foot Ankle Wellness in Mesa. He quickly added Dr. Max evingston to the practice and together they provide a wide range of services, including a revolutionary nonsurgical bunion treatment. The practice was previously run by another doctor and I took over, says Dr. Chambers. We re adding our own twist to it and have added services. He grew up in Mesa, but most recently was practicing in Santa Fe, New Mexico for the last four years. Dr. evingston was most recently practicing in the Denver, Colorado area. Doctors Chambers and evingston s wives are cousins, so it was easy for the duo to combine talents and decide to practice out of the same office. Some of the many foot conditions treated at Foot Ankle Wellness include non-surgical treatment of bunions, hammertoes, flat foot, heel pain, ingrown toenails, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendon, ankle fractures and much more. Pediatric podiatry care is also available at Foot Ankle Wellness. -ray and diagnostic ultrasound services are a valueadded benefit for patients as when those services are needed they can conveniently be done at the Foot Ankle Wellness office, saving additional time and travel. -rays are great for bone issues, but there are a lot of soft tissue things that we take care of where ultrasound can help without having to send a patient somewhere else
or to have a costly M I, Dr. Chambers explains. We can take care of those things right here. Dr. evingston is a licensed chiropractor and certified acupuncturist by trade and is currently pursuing an additional degree through the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. While previously practicing in Denver he had been working on feet, specializing on treating bunions and hammertoes non-surgically. His specialized methods of treating bunions and hammertoes are those that he learned from a doctor and teacher in China. He saw that his patients were getting excellent results and was soon treating patients who were flying in to see him from across the nited States, Germany and Canada. Dr. evingston has further personalized and customized the special method of treatment and has since taught it to Dr. Chambers. To my knowledge, we are the only two in the nited States doing this treatment, adds Dr. Chambers. The customized treatment has been successful in everyone ranging from NF athletes to elderly patients.

he purr fect way for rescue cats to find a fur ever home
Imagine yourself enjoying a fun day of working at a caf , or lounging and enjoying coffee and a cupcake, or even playing board games and listening to music with friends. Now imagine those scenarios surrounded by 20 loving adoptable cats that want to hang out right along with you. That is a Gattara Cat ounge and Boutique that opened in May 2017 in Tempe. The cat lounge idea is one that is popular in other countries and is catching on in the .S. The concept of a cat lounge is to have people come and visit with cats and enjoy some relaxation. The first cat caf opened in Taiwan, explains a Gattara owner, Melissa Pruitt. From there, they opened up in Japan and all over because those residents can t have cats since their apartments are so small. The difference with those lounges is that those are housecats and they are not up for adoption like they are at a Gattara. Prior to opening a Gattara, Pruitt worked in property management for 20 years before shifting gears and opening a Gattara. Even when I was doing property management, I was still rescuing cats, Pruitt says. I was cat-themed that you could possibly want, Pruitt says. ou can get cat mugs, t-shirts, cat nip, wine for cats always the cat lady I would get them fixed and find them homes. All the cats at the Tempe lounge are up for and specialty gifts. adoption through All About Animals. Events are always something special at a Gattara, too. oga and meow-ditation are offered by certified yoga Bottled coffees and sodas, cupcakes and cat-shaped cookies are available for purchase at the cat caf and there instructor auren Doyle who is trained in hatha, yin, and is a beautiful boutique, too. We have everything that is prenatal yoga, as well as yoga for PTSD and Sacred Sound Healing. Drag queen bingo takes place once per month, also. It s literally the best night of the whole month, Pruitt says. It s not just about the cats, it s also people learning about other people. Paint nights are also popular. Participants bring their own spirits to enjoy while they create paintings. We have a teacher that comes in and we have cats helping you out, Pruitt explains. Past events have also included cat-aoke and a cat prom. Birthday parties for adults and for kids are also popular events at a Gattara. r 2018
azhealthandliving.com
All of our cats here are up for adoption and people don t need to feel an obligation like, h my gosh, this cat is so pitiful, and I need to take it home, Pruitt says. They re living a pretty good life. We want them to be adopted, but we want them to go to the best home to somebody that is going to have them forever. Since potential owners get to spend time with all the cats, they can get to know each cat s temperament in a relaxed atmosphere and discover how it might fit into their family and home. Since the opening of a Gattara, more than 200 cats have been adopted out of the lounge. They were all my personal fosters and I miss them so much, Pruitt says. But, she knows that she is doing good work in placing cats that may have otherwise be put down if they were not part of a cat rescue group. We are partnered with All About Animals escue, she explains. They are a nonprofit and they are all fosterbased. They have almost 500 cats and kittens in foster right now.
Those cats are adopted out through PetSmart and Petco stores and at a Gattara. Cat adoption fees go directly back to All About Animals escue. An online photo gallery features adoptable cats and people are invited to come spend time with them at a Gattara Cat ounge Boutique.

hat is argeted herapy Just like there are many types of cancer, there are many ways to treat cancer. The types of treatment cancer patients will receive depends on which type of cancer they have, and patients often receive a combination of treatments. Targeted therapy is one type of treatment that doctors may suggest when speaking with their patients. nderstanding targeted therapy can help patients feel more in control as they begin treatment.
hat is targeted therapy According to the National Cancer Institute, targeted therapy targets the changes in cancer cells that help them grow, divide and spread. Preventing cancer from metastasizing, or spreading to other parts of the body, is a goal of treatment, as doing so dramatically improves survival rates.
re there different types of targeted therapy Targeted therapies often employ one of two types of drugs. Small-molecule drugs are so tiny that they can easily enter cells. These types of drugs are used to treat cancers in which the targets are located inside the cancer cells. Monoclonal antibodies are another type of drug used in targeted therapies. nlike small-molecule drugs, monoclonal antibodies cannot easily enter cells but can attach to targets on the outer surface of cancer cells.
m a candidate for target therapy The NCI notes that most of the time tumors will need be tested to see if they contain targets of drugs used during target therapies. Such testing may require a biopsy, which involves the removal of a piece of the tumor so it can be examined for targets. isks associated with biopsies depend on the size and location of the tumor, and doctors will explain these risks prior to conducting a biopsy.
ow does targeted therapy wor The NCI says most targeted therapies aim to interfere with specific proteins that help tumors grow and spread to other areas of the body. The following are just some of the ways that targeted therapies treat cancer. Assist the immune system in destroying cancer cells Cancer cells are adept at hiding from the immune system, but some targeted therapies mark cancer cells, making it r 2018
a hea thand i ing com
easier for the immune system to find and destroy them. ther targeted therapies may just bolster the immune system as it fights the cancer. Prevent cancer cell growth Some targeted therapies interfere with the proteins that tell cancer cells to divide. This slows the uncontrolled growth of cancer that can increase the likelihood of the cancer metastasizing. Stop signals that help form blood vessels In order to grow beyond a certain size, tumors need to form new blood vessels. Targeted therapies known as angiogenesis inhibitors interfere with these signals, ultimately keeping tumors small by denying the blood supply necessary for them to grow. Angiogenesis inhibitors can even cause blood vessels to die in tumors that already have the blood supply necessary to grow. Deliver cell-killing substances to cancer cells In certain instances, monoclonal antibodies might be combined with toxins, chemotherapy drugs and radiation. In these instances, the antibodies attach to the surface of the cancer cells, which then take up the cancer-killing substances, causing cell death.
re there drawbac s to targeted therapy Cancer cells can become resistant to targeted therapies. In such instances, targeted therapies are most effective when combined with other targeted therapies or treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation. In addition, the structure and or function of targets on cancer cells sometimes makes it difficult to design effective drugs necessary for targeted therapies to succeed. Targeted therapies are a potential treatment option for cancer patients. earn more at www.cancer.gov.

This increases the risk of uterine, breast and ovarian cancers, states the American Society of Clinical ncology. It also may impact a woman's chances of developing endometrial cancer. This really is not a revolutionary new concept, is it ou have heard and read this sentiment many times before, right ou cannot live inside your integrity unless you know who you are. ou have to be honest - standing up for who you really are - not whom you think you should be, and definitely not, who someone else thinks you should be. Most people do not put much thought into the questions they ask a mistake that can cause relationships to deteriorate and misunderstandings to abound. It is usually not hard to pinpoint the moment when a conversation goes south. ften that downward spiral begins with a question. Maybe you ask a colleague, Why did you format the report like this ou ask your spouse, Are your parents coming to dinner again ou ask a stranger on the bus, Could you move over These questions and many others may have seemed innocent when they were coming out of your mouth. However, fail to provide context, emphasize the wrong word, or just forget to add please, and you are suddenly in hot water. es, questions can be tricky territory. The colleague in the scenario above gets defensive, the spouse assumes you hate her parents, and the stranger hears, ou re taking up too much space Abrupt questions and the unanticipated responses they trigger are a peril of the times we live in. Consider the ease with which we can turn to the Internet to answer virtually any question. It lulls us into thinking that questions are simple and that answers exist to meet our needs. The frantic pace of life today just isn t conducive to thoughtfulness or deliberation, which are two prerequisites of effective questioning. Questioning is a higher-order communication skill that we have not taken seriously for centuries. The days of Socrates masterfully using questions to lead a conversation are long past. et even in 201 , we can make an effort to improve our questioning skills and the first step is to curb our tendency to ask faulty questions. In general, faulty questions are those we ask to indulge our personal, I-based cravings to get an answer, to hammer r 2018 | a hea thand i ing com
home a point, or to satisfy a narrow, personal curiosity. Whether they are critical, tactless, unwanted, offensive, embarrassing, intrusive or loaded, these types of questions are likely to stifle dialogue and can cause relationships to deteriorate. Instead, focus on what you can learn from or about another person. This we-based perspective, which reflects a broad curiosity about the person or topic you are discussing, will fuel conversations that are more meaningful and develop richer relationships.
ere are seven specific tips to help you improve your uestions larify your intent. It is especially important to know where you are going before you ask a question, because opening your mouth thoughtlessly can put distance between you and the other person. Think about what you are trying to learn, as well as your motives and the possible effects of your question, before you ask it. emember, Ibased questions are often better left unasked. Get and give permission. No one likes to have his or

It can extend to others memories, beliefs, identities, motives, etc. Before entering these territories conversationally, do not overlook the simple idea of asking permission May I ask you a question ou can also tell the other person he or she does not have to answer.
s open uestions whenever possible. If you are trying to gather information and expand your understanding, you will want to encourage the other person to talk more, not less. That is why open questions, which are designed to be answered in paragraphs, not in a few words, are so helpful.
They give the other person freedom to respond and help you to avoid unintentionally shutting off helpful information. Here are some of the most versatile open questions What do you think How do you feel about this What else should I know What questions can I answer Additionally, you can readily construct open questions by using the phrases how did, how was, please describe, please explain, please discuss and please tell me more.
se closed uestions prudently. Closed questions are easy to spot because they often start with words like who, when, where, is or do Who can help us get this done When is the project due Where do I get more information Is this the job you want Do you like your boss Closed questions are useful for simple informational queries, for limiting the range of potential responses, or for expediting a conversation. However, be very careful not to slip into the habit of closing off your questions when you are trying to establish dialogue and encourage conversational participation. e polite. ou will notice that please occurs frequently in many examples and phrases above. This is pragmatic etiquette. emember the stranger on the bus When you asked, Could you move over you got an icy glare in response and then suffered through an uncomfortable 20minute ride. What if instead you said, I m sorry, could I please trouble you to move over just a bit Thank you so much et people tal . When there is a pause in conversation, your first impulse may be to jump into the breach and fill it with whatever words first come to mind. However, especially when you are asking important questions, do your best to tame that impulse and hold your tongue. People require some space to absorb information, formulate their responses and deliver them effectively. se nudges liberally. Nudges are stand-alone phrases like tell me more, I see and go on, which are often used following an open question to maintain the smooth flow of information. Nudges are a good way to let the speaker know that you are paying attention. People will usually be willing to share more if they believe that you are receptive and interested. earning to ask better questions will improve your relationships at work and at home. a hea thand i ing com

age free Eggs labeled cage free means that the hens that laid the eggs were not raised in caged housing systems, which the Humane Society of the nited States has described as inhumane. The organization Food and Water Watch notes that living conditions for hens raised in cagefree environments may still be poor. aily value According to the medical resource WebMD, daily value indicates the percentage of a certain nutrient in a food, based on a 2,000-calorie-per-day diet. WebMD notes that percent is general considered to be good. ietary fiber The Mayo Clinic notes that dietary fiber refers to the parts of plant foods that the human body cannot digest or absorb. Fiber is typically classified as soluble, which refers to types of fiber that dissolve in water, and insoluble, which is used to describe types of fiber that promote movement of material through the digestive system. Soluble fiber can help lower blood cholesterol and glucose levels, while insoluble can help people who suffer from constipation or irregular stools. nriched Foods that are labeled as enriched have had nutrients added to them to replace those that were lost when the food was processed. ortified Fortified describes foods that had nutrients added to them that were not present initially. A common example of a fortified food or beverage is milk, which is fortified with vitamin D to help the body absorb the calcium present in milk.
G GM stands for genetically modified organisms, which are organisms that have had their genetic material artificially manipulated in genetic engineering labs. The Non-GM Project says that a growing body of evidence has connected GM s with an assortment of health problems and environmental damage. ormone free The federal government of the nited States prohibits the use of hormones to raise poultry and hogs, so manufacturers who label their foods as hormone free have not gone above and beyond to make their foods healthier. rganic The
nited States Department of Agriculture has strict criteria in regard to labeling foods as organic. To be labeled organic, dairy, eggs, meat, and poultry can come only from animals that were not given antibiotics or growth hormones. Fruits and vegetables can only be labeled organic if they were produced without conventional pesticides, fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients, bioengineering, or ionizing radiation.
rocessed Many consider processed foods to be bad and loaded with additives. But that's not always the case. The SDA defines processed as foods that have undergone a change of character. For example, cut, prewashed spinach qualifies as a processed food. odium therwise known as salt, sodium is necessary to maintain nerve and muscle health. However, many people consume too much sodium, oftentimes because of processed foods. WebMD notes that sodium intake should be limited to 2,300 milligrams or less per day. Historically the developers of acupuncture believed it worked by moving energy known as Qi (pronounced Chee) throughout the body. According to traditional acupuncture theory, if too much energy accumulated in the body (or not enough energy reached a body part) the tissues would be damaged and disease would result. Acupuncture needles were inserted into injured tissues for the purpose of moving energy into or away from stressed tissue. nce energy balance was restored the tissues could heal and repair.

Sleeps in an abnormal position Snores Sweats heavily during sleep Is difficult to wake up Has headaches Is irritable Falls asleep or daydreams in school Wets the bed Has been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) In children, sometimes the problem results from swollen tonsils and or adenoids that block the airway. It can also be caused by dental problems because malocclusion (misalignment) of the teeth is believed to affect the positioning of the airway. Even swollen nasal passages could cause your child problems breathing during sleep. In these cases, it s a good idea to talk to your child s pediatrician, his dentist and an ear, nose and throat specialist. If your child is sleeping poorly and it isn t due to a sleep-disordered breathing problem, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends a relaxing setting at bedtime low lights and quiet. Don t substitute watching television or videos for personal interaction with your child before bedtime. When our children have trouble sleeping, it affects their lives, their health and our relationships with them. Be on the lookout for the signs such as crabbiness, tiredness, headaches and other, as well as any possibility of ADHD. This could be a sleep-disordered breathing problem, or simply a problem sleeping. It deserves the attention of your child s pediatrician, dentist, ENT and you. –Dr. Croft Vistancia Orthodontics 623.566.0800 azhealthandliving.com |

. What is a ace i t A. A facelift targets the visible signs of aging in the face and neck, giving the face a younger and tighter appearance. Although I offer many nonsurgical facial treatments and aesthetic injectables in my office, sometimes there is no substitute for a facelift. Trendy procedures and skincare products rarely work as advertised on patients with deep wrinkles and excess skin. A facelift tightens underlying tissues, muscles, and skin within the face and neck. It can correct mid-face sagging, marionette lines, jowls, and even a double chin. ver time the skin naturally begins to loosen on the face and neck. Crow s feet appear at the corners of the eyes. Fine forehead lines become creases and later deeper folds. The jawline softens into jowls, and beneath the chin, another chin or vertical folds appear at the front of the neck. Genetics, lifestyle, gravity, and sun exposure contribute to the aging of the face. Because a facelift improves the visible signs of aging like no other procedure, it s often called the gold standard in facial plastic surgery.

3D Mammography, also known as digital breast tomosynthesis, can be performed at the same time and on the same unit as a traditional 2D mammogram. There is very little difference in the experience or time expended for the patient. While the breast is compressed for the standard 2D image, a second set of images is obtained by taking multiple images at different angles to create a 3D image of the breast. It is important to remember that 2D digital mammography remains the gold standard for breast screening. While many women may benefit from 3D mammography, we believe that women with dense, complicated breast tissue or patients at increased risk for developing breast cancer may benefit the most from this technology. Breast density can be determined by a mammogram. Women with dense breasts have less fatty tissue with typically more fibrous and glandular tissue present. The appearance on a mammogram of a dense breast is more solid and opaque. This can make it more difficult to detect subtle abnormalities. The radiologist who analyzes your mammogram will determine the ratio of non-dense tissue to dense tissue and assign a level of breast density. This will be included in your report. There are four classifications which range from almost all fatty tissue to extremely dense tissue with very little fat.

A. There is growing phenomenon happening they start having problems with them. This is
in the medical world. So much hope has been placed in stem cell treatment from conditions across the board such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, heart failure and musculoskeletal conditions.
What is a stem cell The truest simplest definition is the body's raw materials cells from which all other cells with special functions are generated. A stem cell can take two paths either renew itself or become a specialized cell like blood, brain, heart, bone. There is no other cell in the body that has the natural ability to generate new cell types. Stem cell therapy, also known as regenerative medicine, promotes the reparative response of diseased, dysfunctional or injured tissue using stem cells or their derivatives. In the context of utilizing in musculoskeletal conditions like spinal disc, rotator cuff, knee meniscus, typically what is done to assist healing is via growth factor that message your own body s stem cells to start producing the necessary substances to heal the affected area. Platelet rich plasma, alpha 2 macroglobulin plasma concentrate (A2M) and most amniotic fluids do not have any actual stem cells. However we are finding that is not necessary to heal pathology. In fact scientists are finding the stem cells present in bone marrow (mesenchymal stem cells) actually die in a few days right after they have signaled to the body s own stem cells to start the process of healing.

The use of a microcannula is a primary way to significantly reduce the chance of bruising.

According to multiple sources, she suffers from endometriosis and considers her daughter, born in May 201 , a miracle baby. I knew that I desperately wanted to have children and after speaking with a nutritionist that came recommended by my doctor, I was reassured that with the right eating habits and lifestyle changes (no sugar, no carbs ), I would have a better possibility of getting pregnant, she says, according to N N s I started to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I became extremely health conscious, changed my diet, and I think those changes helped with ultimately getting pregnant. N N s also notes that Mowry-Hardrict and husband Cory Hardrict credit their strong Christian faith for their latest bundle of joy. ecently, Mowry-Hardrict told P P magazine how motherhood has kept her and her twin sister close. ur lives are very busy. She lives up north and I live in Southern California. But what s so amazing is how our children are what really, really brings us closer together, she told P P It is the most beautiful thing to see. An advocate for healthy living, Mowry-Hardrict told her fellow new moms after her daughter s birth in May to have realistic expectations when it comes to weight loss as she updated them on her own postpartum health journey over social media. I'm just really taking my time, and I really want to be an example out there for women, that it's if you don't lose weight fast or rather quickly. It's if you still have a belly bump. That's what happens. It's natural. It's normal, Mowry told N s. ou don't have to kill yourself trying to get to some place that takes time. I'm about focusing on my babies and enjoying her growth. Her advice for other moms is the same advice she uses for her own children. I think it s important to just let your child be themselves, she told ss nc magazine, and feel comfortable and free because when they feel comfortable and free, then they still feel like themselves. How to Detect & Protect Against Workplace Bullying It is important to understand the signs and symptoms of a bully in order to help the victim and the victimizer deal with and exterminate the behavior.
Stories of workplace bullying are commonplace throughout the United States. In general, there are no legal repercussions for non-physical bullying except in specific cases, such as sexual harassment. In fact, bullying is a character trait that tends to be condoned in American society. Consider our national obsession – football. The object of this celebrated game is to get the ball to the other player’s goal, no matter what it takes trampling, hitting, pushing and screaming. If football is a metaphor for American society, then the winner is the person who pushes others out of the way and wins no matter the cost. Bullies win by controlling situations and people around them. They crave power and the attention that comes from getting what they want.
The effects of working with a bully Adults have a difficult time performing their jobs effectively when subjected to bullying by a co-worker. It takes a toll physically because of our physiological responses to emotional stress. Typically, victims endure feelings of depression, guilt and shame, and they suffer sleep loss and fatigue. In some cases, victims begin to believe the bully’s behavior is warranted, and they develop feelings of worthlessness. They cannot complete tasks at the same level as others in their units. The abuse takes a toll on victims in every way imaginable.
Are you a bully? Being accused of being the bully can be difficult to accept. You may believe your actions were unintentional, or a justified emotional response to provocation. Perhaps, you 56

see yourself as the only one in the office qualified to do anything right. However, whatever you have said or done, whether purposefully or not, you have created a culture of negativity for at least one person and you need to assess the situation and your role in it.
Symptoms that you may be the bully include: • Insulting a co-worker (remember, one person’s “joke” may be another's insult). • Undermining another employee’s work by creating a hostile environment or perhaps by consistently calling his or her attention to flaws. (Bullies focus on a person, while constructive criticism focuses on a task.) • As an employer, ignoring your employees’ suggestions. • Humiliating your employee in front of others. If any of these sounds like something that you may be doing, it is important to address this immediately with your victim. You may want to speak with your doctor about getting help, such as counseling, sensitivity training, anger management and other seminars. It is important to understand the signs and symptoms of a bully in order to help the victim and the victimizer deal with and exterminate the behavior. If you are a victim, diligently record workplace-bullying events. If you choose to make a formal complaint, you will be responsible for providing information should there be charges brought against the bully.
Working on Emotional Intelligence Skills By Lynda Chervil, author of Fool’s Return
Personal power is a core leadership competency that everyone needs to develop before they can lead others. It has to do with being able to lead yourself. We can help harness and learn to use our personal power by understanding and working on our Emotional Intelligence (EI) skills. Emotional Intelligence is the ability to monitor one's own and others' feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one's thinking and actions, according to psychologists John D. Mayer and Peter Salovey, who co-developed the concept and were two of the three authors of the Emotional Intelligence Test. There are several emotional intelligence models. Here are Daniel Goldman’s five main EI mixed model constructs, and tips on how each of us can develop them.
Self-awareness: the ability to know one's emotions, strengths, weaknesses, drive, values, goals and recognize their impact on others while using gut feelings to guide decisions.
Tips for improving your social skills: · Pay attention to the feedback of friends and co-workers, good and bad. Train yourself to repeat the behaviors that get positive feedback and work on eliminating those that make people react negatively. · View constructive criticism as just that. When we become defensive, we don’t hear what can be very helpful feedback.
In order to become self-aware, you need to conduct an honest self-assessment to determine your strengths and weaknesses, such as powerlessness and inertia, and determine the root causes. You then need to create a plan that will help you overcome your fears, which are barriers to courage and stand between you and your successes.
· Learn to handle conflict and confrontation from a perspective of compassion and caring.
Caution: unless your gut feelings are often more right
when making decisions.
than wrong, you cannot make decisions solely based upon intuition. You need to use a balanced combination of intuition and logic.
Self-regulation: involves controlling or redirecting one's
disruptive emotions, impulses and adapting to changing circumstances. Exercise self-discipline, know how to control your emotions, and be flexible in order to adapt to changing situations. You cannot continue on the same trajectory or keep the same plans when the circumstances or facts have changed.
Social skills: managing relationships to move people in the desired direction.
Your social skills refer to your interpersonal skills or your ability to relate and connect with people, which can motivate them to deploy discretionary efforts to help you achieve goals that are best accomplished via partnership and collaboration.
Personal coaching can be very helpful in learning to be more diplomatic in your interactions with others.
Empathy: considering other people's feelings, especially Put yourself in the other person’s shoes and try to see situations from their perspective. Might they be feeling fear? Shame? Guilt? How do those emotions make you feel? Understanding and addressing the concerns of others is essential to EI. Always consider how your actions or decisions may affect individuals.
Motivation: being driven to achieve for the sake of achievement.
What motivates you? What are your benchmarks for success? Once you achieve certain levels of success, you need to set new benchmarks to keep chasing personal excellence! Practice your EI skills on yourself first, and you will develop greater personal power. That can lead to achievements you may never have dreamed possible. azhealthandliving.com | October 2018

h ee i to void tliving o eti ement nd As people get closer to the age when they hope to retire, traditional wisdom calls for moving into more conservative safer investments, such as Treasury bonds and many fixed-income mutual funds. The problem is, what is safe for one person may not be safe for another, given the amount of money in their portfolios, how their investments are allocated, and what their retirement lifestyle goals are. Some investors believe Certificates of Deposit and .S. Treasury bonds are safe investments because of their backing, but the income they generate is so low, they may not be safe in terms of producing the income you need for 30 years of retirement. A better approach is to analyze how much investment risk you must assume to achieve what s important to you.
ar et timing and chasing hot managers is not the way to build a lasting, long term portfolio.
our lifestyle goals determine your risk level, and your portfolio should be an allocation of stocks, bonds and cash that correlates directly with the risk level you need to assume.
Modern Portfolio Theory, developed by Nobel Prizewinner Harry Markowitz, tells us that 0 percent of the return in your portfolio is based on the allocation of stocks, bonds and cash.
Here are a few tips for building a portfolio you likely won t outlive
The percentages you allocate between these asset classes is far more important than timing the market or chasing around for the No. 1 fund. Wall Street prefers you spend your time focused on the wrong thing.
on t aim for earning a certain percentage rate simply because you consider it an acceptable one. nce you ve identified your retirement lifestyle wants and needs, you can calculate how much they ll cost. Subtract your guaranteed income from sources like Social Security and pensions, and the remainder is what your portfolio will need to generate, adjusted for inflation, for the rest of your life. Setting a goal of earning a 5, 6 or percent return doesn t work because the markets fluctuate each year and are unpredictable. It s better to evaluate inflows and outflows during retirement and adjust for inflation. That process helps determine how much money you ll need at certain points in your life, and the returns you ll need. r 2018 a hea thand i ing com
on t automatically spend when your portfolio earnings e ceed e pectations. When your portfolio is growing at a rate that gives you a good amount of confidence you won t outlive your money, are you safe to spend more when gains exceed your expectations Everyone has different priorities some may want to increase spending to enhance their lifestyle while others may take the opportunity to lower their risk even more, so they can sleep better at night. What you need to remember is that gains can be taken away as quickly as they appeared.

Cognitive decline is a condition that is often associated with aging, but even middle-aged people can experience memory loss or cognition issues. The Alzheimer's Association says that more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. By 2050 that number could rise to as high as 16 million people. Although there is no definitive way to prevent dementia, living a long, vibrant life may be possible by encouraging some healthy habits for the brain. It is never too late or too early to begin health and lifestyle changes.
ercise Becoming more active can improve brain volume, reduce risk for dementia and improve thinking and memory skills. The journal Neurology found that older people who vigorously exercise performed better on cognitive tests than others of the same age, placing them at the equivalent of 10 years younger. Increased blood flow that occurs with physical activity may help generate new neurons in the hippocampus, an area of the brain involved with learning and memory. The Harvard Medical School says aerobic exercise may help improve brain tissue by improving blood flow and reducing the chances of injury to the brain from cholesterol buildup in blood vessels.
uit smo ing The Alzheimer's Association indicates that evidence shows smoking increases the risk of cognitive decline. Smoking can impair blood flow to the brain and cause small strokes that may damage blood vessels.
at healthy foods Foods that are good for the heart and blood vessels also are good for the brain. These include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fish-based proteins, unsaturated fats, and foods containing omega-3 fatty acids. Neurologists state that, while research on diet and cognitive function is limited, diets, such as Mediterranean and MediterraneanDASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension), may contribute to a lower risk of cognitive issues.
onsume caffeine Caffeine may help boost memory performance and brain health. A Journal of Nutrition study found people ages 70 and older who consumed more caffeine scored better on tests of mental function than those who consumed less caffeine. Caffeine may help improve attention span, cognitive function and feelings of well-being. Information from Psychology Today also indicates caffeine may help in the storage of dopamine, which can reduce feelings of depression and anxiety. In addition, compounds in cocoa and coffee beans may improve vascular health and help repair cellular damage due to high antioxidant levels.
or the brain Engaging in mentally stimulating activities can create new brain connections and more backup circuits, states Dr. Joel Salinas, a neurologist at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital. Working the brain through puzzles, reading and participating in social situations can stimulate the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a molecule essential for repairing brain cells and creating connections between them. A good way to combine these lifestyle factors is to take an exercise class with friends, mixing the social, stimulation and exercise recommendations together. Cognitive decline can come with aging, but through healthy habits, people can reduce their risk of memory loss and dementia. a hea thand i ing com |
