"I did my research online for the practices in Arizona that offer varicose vein removal. I knew I wanted the EVLT treatment and wanted the procedure done by a Physician, not a cosmetic place. I narrowed it down to three Physicians and chose Dr. Sharma for his experience. I could not be more pleased with my experience at Arizona Vein & Laser Institute. Dr. Sharma is a wonderful physician. As he is performing the procedure, he explains what he is doing and is so concerned about making you feel comfortable. As for his staff, I cannot say enough good words. One thing I have learned in my lifetime is that your employees are only as good as you are. Dr. Sharma, you have a wonderful staff which says alot about you as an employer. I spent many office visits with them and every time they were pleasant, caring and professional. I was impressed by the way they worked as a team with Dr. Sharma. Thank you so much!" Joy A.

"I had called your office on a Monday morning to see if I could be fit in for an appointment as soon as possible because of a complication I had over the weekend. Being a new patient and never being seen at your office before it didn't matter because the woman who answered was not only kind, friendly and sypmathetic of my situation, but she was able to fit me in that very same afternoon. I have to say how incredibly impressed I was with the entire staff at this office but even more so with Dr. Sharma and Dr. Hecht. Their bedside manners are second to none. Thank you!" Scott Schrimp

Relief is right here in the West Valley Dr. Kukurin was named a Top Chiropractor by the Consumers Research Council of America. He is listed in Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare. With over 20 years of experience using acupuncture, chiropracticand science based nutritional therapies, the results produced by our methods have been featured on local TV newscasts, published in scientific journals, indexed in the National Library of Medicine and have been presented Knee Pain at medical conferences at Johns Hopkins and the Peripheral Nerve Society.

Diabetic Neuropathy, Peripheral Neuropathy Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, Plantar Fasciitis If you are suffering from lower back, buttocks and or leg pain or your feet or legs are cramping, numb or burning especially at night, you almost certainly have a condition which involves the nerves of the legs. The largest nerve in the body, the sciatic nerve (pictured in red to the right), starts in the lower back, runs through the muscles of the buttocks and down to the tip of the toes. If this nerve gets irritated, you can experience really terrible pain anywhere along the course of the nerve. You may also experience burning, numbness and odd sensations in your muscles. Irritation of this nerve may produce severe cramping or crawling sensations in your muscles. Of course, your back and leg pain can be caused by a pinched nerve in your lower back. This can be from a vertebra that is out of place, it can be caused by a slipped disc or it can be caused by spinal stenosis or any combination of these problems. Each of these conditions, bad discs, spinal stenosis or displaced vertebrae have very different treatments. Knowing exactly why you have your back and leg troubles is absolutely essential for effective care.

Headaches, Vertigo, TMJ, Migraines, Sinus Headache Neck and Shoulder Pain, Pinched Nerves, Tennis Elbow and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Spinal Stenosis, Sciatica, Lower Back, Hip and Leg Pain

So how do you find results? The answer is called Integrative Neurology. Neurology is the study of the nerves. This allows us to diagnose tough nerve conditions like spinal stenosis, disc problems and neuropathy. What happens next truly separates our integrative neurology approach from anything else available to help correct lower back, hip, leg and foot problems. We have pioneered techniques to decompress nerves, but also use a number of natural substances that have been shown in recent scientific studies to help nerves re-grow and repair. There are no current drugs that can do this. But that’s not all. We combine special electrical stimulation techniques with acupuncture. A combination that has been shown to correct abnormal nerve function and promote nerve repair. There simply is no better or more comprehensive system for diagnosing and correcting the cause of spinal stenosis, neuropathy and other conditions that cause lower back, hip and leg pain and numbness. “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.~Galatians 5:1 Welcome to our July issue. As we celebrate this Independence Day, let us also not forget to give thanks for our eternal liberty that we find in God. Here are a few Bible verses to encourage the celebration of freedom, both spiritual and physical, this holiday.

1 Peter 2:15-16 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

Psalm 119:44-45 So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever. And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

Isaiah 61:1-2 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Romans 6:17-18 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Romans 8:19-21 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Psalm 119:32 I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart

Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Until next time, Have a blessed and safe holiday!

God Bless You for Your Support! Here to serve,

HEART OF THE COMMUNITY

SUPPORT LOCAL

By Claire H. Natale

Beyond The Call

United Phoenix Firefighters Charities teams up with Cornbread for a Cause to help the communities it serves As first responders, firefighters see firsthand the devastation of raging fires, medical emergencies and individual and mass tragedies while on duty answering the call. But serving the community goes beyond what is accomplished during a shift. In 1964, the United Phoenix Firefighters Charities (UPFFC) was organized as a way to continue the efforts and provide help beyond the initial call. The United Phoenix Firefighters Charities consists of more than 2,600 professional firefighters in Phoenix, Tempe, Glendale, Chandler and Peoria. UPFFC fundraising efforts and partnerships throughout the year support a variety of groups and programs. Each summer, UPFFC sends children with neuromuscular diseases to camp where kids with this debilitating disease enjoy horseback riding, swimming, fishing and making friends. UPFFC also provides medical supplies to kids affected by the disease and supports medical research. Installing smoke detectors and pool fences, hosting food and coat drives are other services UPFFC supports. Additionally, the Charities supports burn victims, families who have suffered a loss of a loved one or damage to their home. Whether supporting the cost of a funeral, medical bills, emotional counseling or rebuilding a home, funds go toward helping those in need. “It is more than just a job,” says Ben Lindquist, director of charities at UPFFC. “Helping the community is an honor and part of our culture as a firefighter here in Phoenix. We strive to support the community and are so thankful to our partners for supporting our mission and us.”

It is the mission of UPFFC to protect and improve the quality of life of those in the communities it serves. To accomplish this mission, relationships have been built and partnerships established with community leaders, private businesses, citizens and other nonprofits. The most recent partnership was with Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill through the restaurant group’s charitable giving campaign Cornbread for a Cause. Z’Tejas aims to give back and support nonprofits in the Valley. Cornbread for a Cause was launched in December 2015. To date, Z’Tejas has donated more than $150,000 to local charities. The mission of Cornbread for a Cause is to raise funds for charitable organizations that help people in the communities that Z’Tejas serves. Funds are raised through proceeds from sales of Z’Tejas’ famous cornbread. “Firefighters do extraordinary work as first responders and through the community support they provide,” says Michael Stone, partner at Z’Tejas Restaurants. “We at Z’Tejas are inspired by their commitment and the work they do. We are excited about this partnership and look forward to contributing to the charity’s work.”

From April 1 to June 30 of this year, a portion of all cornbread sold at the five Valley Z’Tejas locations was donated to the UPFFC. On three special nights, firefighters from across the Valley came into three different Z’Tejas locations to be guest servers to meet and thank the communities supporting them.

For more information on UPFFC, visit www.phxff charities.org. For more information on Z’Tejas’ Cornbread for a Cause, visit www.ztejas.com/cornbread-for-a-cause.

“Partnerships like this one is what helps UPFFC thrive,” says Lindquist. “We are honored to be able to do what we do but know it takes more than just our teams of hardworking firefighters.”

It wasn’t until 2014 that I needed to seek treatment for a patella tendon tear that I received while competing at the Commerce World’s Strongest Man in China. NEW BREAKTHROUGH METHOD FOR CORRECTING GUM RECESSION!

The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST), invented and patented by John Chao, DDS, MADG, is a scalpel-free, suture-free procedure for correcting gum recession. During the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique™, a needle is used to make a small hole in the patient’s existing gum tissue. Through this pinhole, special instruments are used to gently loosen the gum tissue. These tools help expand and slide the gumline to cover the exposed root structure. There are no grafts, no sutures, and no incisions needed with the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique™. It simply involves the adjustment of the existing tissue. Dr. Chang and Dr. Svans were two of the first dentists in Arizona and the United States trained and certified as Pinhole Surgical Technique™ Providers. Dr. Chang is the President of Pinhole Surgical Technique Study Group for Certified Clinicians in Arizona, and regularly communicates with Dr. John Chao for clinical findings and advanced training. Myths and Misconceptions About Autism Spectrum Disorder Autism spectrum disorder, or ASD, is a class of neurological conditions present from early childhood and is often identified through difficulty communicating, using language and understanding abstract concepts. The organization Autism Speaks says that an estimated one out of 42 boys and one in 189 girls are diagnosed with autism in the United States. Autism is now diagnosed in roughly one out of every 68 children in Canada, and has become the fastest growing and most commonly diagnosed neurological disorder in that country. ASD is estimated to affect tens of millions of people worldwide. But even though ASD is widely recognized, studied and discussed, myths and misconceptions about the disorder continue to circulate. Shedding light on how ASD can help caregivers, peers and anyone who routinely interacts with individuals who fall on the spectrum.

ASD is not a single disorder Although autism and ASD are often used interchangeably, these names do not define one specific disorder. ASD is now an umbrella term that includes autism, Asperger syndrome, pervasive developmental disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder, and Rett syndrome, according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder, 5th edition (DSM-5) revised in 2013. ASD is often perceived through communication deficits that can include misinterpreted or nonverbal interactions. Individuals also may have challenges in bonding/friendship development.

People with ASD can understand and express emotion Although communication troubles may be present, those with ASD can and do feel emotions. But they may not be able to express these emotions the same way as others do. Also, just because someone has ASD doesn't mean he or she is unable to understand the emotions of others. Rather, the person may need firm and direct indications of how another person is feeling to understand. Reading body language or tone of voice alone may be inadequate to someone with ASD. School-aged children can learn from this, recognizing that someone with ASD may want to have 30

friends and socialize, but he or she may not know how to facilitate these engagements.

ASD does not produce carbon-copy symptoms Characteristics of ASD can vary widely from person to person. One person's limitations may not be present in another.

ASD is not just a children's disease There is no cure for ASD, and symptoms may not be reversible, which means that autism is a lifelong condition. Children who are diagnosed will grow into young people and adults with autism. Many treatments and therapies are geared toward early intervention, but adults can benefit from continued work as well. Adults with ASD can be successful and live independent lives. Autism spectrum disorder is more prevalent than ever. However, despite the recognition of ASD, many people do not understand the nuances involved with a diagnosis.

Protect Eyes from Ultraviolet Rays

By MS

Just as people protect their skin from the sun, so, too, should they safeguard their eyes. Prevent Blindness America warns that the sun is comprised of UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays may hurt central vision by damaging the macula, or a part of the retina at the back of the eye. UVB rays typically affect the front part of the eye or the lens and cornea. The following are some common eye conditions that can be linked to exposure to UV rays.

Photokeratitis. Excessive amounts of UV radiation over a

short period of time can cause photokeratitis, which is equivalent to a sunburn of the eye. Photokeratitis may occur after spending long hours at the beach or skiing without proper eye protection. UVB rays cause photokeratitis, and these rays can burn the cornea, potentially causing pain and temporary vision loss.

Macular degeneration. According to the American Optometric Association, macular degeneration is a deterioration of the part of the retina that is responsible for sharp, central vision. In addition to UV rays, chronic exposure to shorter-wavelength visible blue and violet light can be harmful to the retina. The sun and many artificial light sources, such as LEDs and smartphones, emit blue light. Some blue light can be beneficial, but some can be harmful to the eyes. Lenses that absorb harmful blue light or block it can prevent retinal damage. Pterygium. Pterygium is a growth that forms on the outer

portion of the eye, or the cornea and conjunctiva. The World Health Organization says that prolonged UV exposure can contribute to this condition. Pterygium may extend over the cornea and reduce vision, requiring surgical removal.

Cataracts. UV exposure also can contribute to the formation of cataracts. Prevent Blindness America says a cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens, the part of the eye that focuses the light people see. Consumers should speak with an eye doctor if they have additional questions about eye protection. Prescription lenses can be tinted and treated to offer UV protection. azhealthandliving.com |

SPIRIT

CONNECT WITHIN

By Joe Scott, author of The Joe Dial, www.friendesha.com

Are You a Giver or a Taker? People come in only three basic varieties. There are givers, takers and those who fall in the middle with qualities of both. These people represent different mixtures of positive and negative energies, and understanding how those energies work – both with others and within ourselves – can make our lives at work and at home a lot easier.

Givers – These people are typically honest and sincere and have a driving concern for the world and everyone in it. Givers feel a responsibility to treat everyone with dignity and respect. They see it as their duty to leave the world in better shape than they found it. The danger for people who are primarily givers is that they tend to be easily taken advantage of by takers. The pure giver often fails to assess a situation to ensure their best interests are being protected. They don’t truly understand the taking mentality and do not realize there is a whole class of people out there eager to take everything givers are willing to give, and then some. Takers – Keep in mind that taking in and of itself is not a bad thing. We must all have a bit of taker in all of us if only to afford others the opportunity to be givers. Moreover, takers are not necessarily bad people. They’ve simply been raised to be takers by having been given too much as they were growing up. For instance, a fourth generation welfare recipient has been given no other model but taking. Pure takers entire orientation in life is one of receiving, of trying to maximize the gain in every situation. A true taker operates out of a position of fear, always assuming there won’t be enough to go around, always strategizing so he gets his share and more. Taker-Givers or T&Gs – These people strike a balance between taking and giving, and generally have a developed set of instincts about when to give and when to take. As a rule, they don’t want to take advantage of anyone, nor do they want to be taken advantage of by takers. Courtesy is both extended and expected in return. Some key characteristics include: · They let you pay for lunch one day but insist on paying the next time. 32 July 2017| azhealthandliving.com

These people represent different mixtures of positive and negative energies, and understanding how those energies work – both with others and within ourselves – can make our lives at work and at home a lot easier. · They are able to both lend help as well as ask for help. · They listen and talk in roughly the same measure. · They carry their weight on a team, but don’t allow themselves to be used. · They’re not excessive with either lending or borrowing. · They clean up their own messes. About 70 percent of us fall into that T&G category to some extent or another, with the other 30 percent split evenly between givers and takers. By recognizing these elements and trying to practice the principles of giving and taking in equal measure, you can revolutionize your own workspace no matter what position you may have. The positivity will ripple outward, changing not only yourself, but also the people around you.

and suppress movement. In patients suffering from dystonia there is a chaotic contraction of many muscles in a highly disordered manner. This results in abnormal postures and jerky movements that resemble tremors.

Most modern hearing aids directly connect to cell phones and TV. If a phone call is received, regardless if an individual uses a flip phone or smartphone, they will be able to hear phone calls directly from both hearing aids without having to hold their phone up to their ears. This is great for someone with hearing loss because their hearing aids are programmed specifically for their hearing loss and the call is sent to both ears at the same time. Bluetooth eliminates the need to find the perfect place to hold their phone in order to hear with a hearing aid (which is why most people end up taking their hearing aids out to hear on the phone).

Q. How do I know if I have gallstones and if medical treatment is necessary?

Q. How is “lazy eye” diagnosed and treated?

A. The gallbladder is a storage place for bile A. Amblyopia is often referred to as “lazy

which is a liquid produced in the liver. After eating fats, as your body begins the digestive process, your gallbladder contracts and pushes the stored bile into the common bile duct, which brings the liquid to your small intestine to aid digestion. Gallstones form when the liquid bile hardens and changes to hard pieces of stone-like material, which then can block the gallbladder from emptying or cause a blockage within the common bile duct causing symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, or what is often called a gallbladder attack.

Other symptoms may include constant heartburn, abdominal pain and bloating after you eat, or pain radiating to your back or right shoulder. Some people will experience fever, chills, yellowing of the skin and eyes, dark color urine and gray color stools. Severe pain attacks or constant pain that interferes with your daily life may mean that surgery is the best option. There are now very minimally invasive surgical procedures available for gallbladder removal. These methods typically mean you will not have to stay in the hospital overnight, you will recover quicker, and you will have little to no scarring. It is critical to seek medical treatment to ensure the gallbladder is removed before it ruptures.

Q. Can sleep-disordered breathing cause inability to concentrate in children?

eye.” It is a condition in which one or both of the eyes are not correctable to 20/20 vision with glasses, and it is the most common cause of visual impairment in children. Amblyopia develops before age six. It is important to detect and treat amblyopia early, and the American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends that a child’s first comprehensive eye examination be done at six months of age.

A. Sleep-disordered breathing in children

Amblyopia can be caused by an eye turn, a high prescription in one or both eyes, or by another condition such as a cataract. Symptoms of amblyopia include an aversion to having an eye covered, or bumping into objects on one side. More often there are no noticeable symptoms, and amblyopia remains undetected until a child’s first comprehensive eye exam—simple vision screenings may not detect it. If amblyopia goes undetected until the teenage years or adulthood, treatment often takes longer and can be less effective.

As the body drifts to sleep, the airway relaxes. A healthy airway should not relax, but if the child has swollen tonsils or nasal problems, this relaxation can obstruct the airway and breathing causing the brain to wake up the body, resulting in excessive tiredness, and decreased concentration.

A child diagnosed with amblyopia will need to wear prescription glasses. Wearing glasses full time may resolve amblyopia, but frequently additional treatment is needed. This may include patching an eye, using an atropine eye drop, or vision therapy. The information contained in this article is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, care, or treatment. Always consult a qualified health care provider with any questions regarding any possible medical condition.

– Dr. Miller Midwestern University Eye Institute 623.537.6000

can result from swollen tonsils and/or adenoids, malocclusion (misalignment of the teeth) or swollen nasal passages. Children who suffer from sleep-disordered breathing do not sleep well at night. Often, they cannot enter REM sleep because they are unable to get into a deep sleep without their body forcing them awake when their airway becomes obstructed.

Sleep-disordered breathing in children may manifest as strange positions while sleeping (such as hanging their head off the edge of the bed or propping it up on pillows in order to be in the right position to breathe), overall crabbiness, headaches, difficulty waking, and/or bedwetting. It may also manifest itself as trouble concentrating— sometimes-serious conditions like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). However, not every child who has trouble concentrating is automatically suffering from ADHD. Trouble concentrating can be caused by everything from immaturity to a short attention span. Nevertheless, diagnoses of ADHD have risen exponentially in the last few years, as has the prescription of such drugs as Ritalin. Sleep-disordered breathing is just another possibility to look at when trying to find the underlying cause of your child’s inability to concentrate. –Dr. Croft Vistancia Orthodontics 623.566.0800 azhealthandliving.com | July 2017

Why Botox for excessive sweating? Doctors noticed Botox stopped perspiration everywhere it was injected for wrinkles and one thing led to another. Today Botox is a common treatment for excessive sweating because it’s extremely effective and long lasting. What areas can be treated with Botox for excessive sweating? Men and women get Botox sweat treatments for their armpits, palms, feet and other areas. It typically takes less than an hour to finish the treatment. How many Botox sweating treatments do I need and how often? Only one session is typically required. Within a week patients see a huge reduction in their sweating. Allergan, the maker of Botox, claims that it stays effective for about 200 days but some patients say it lasts for as much as a year.

deaths in the United States and around the world. It is curable in early stages before the development of symptoms. Low dose CT (LDCT) is the only effective screening tool that has been shown to reduce mortality.

It is therefore recommended by the American Cancer Society, the Lung Cancer Alliance and other health organizations that high risk people undergo annual screening examinations. Risk, calculated in “pack years,” is calculated by multiplying number of years of smoking with number of cigarette packs smoked per day (1 pack per day X 30 years = 30 pack years). Low Dose CT uses a much lower radiation dose than a conventional chest CT. LDCT should only be performed at facilities that are a part of National Lung Screening Registry. Many insurance providers including Medicare will cover annual LDCT exam. Medicare beneficiaries must meet all of the following criteria: • They are 55 to 77 years of age. • Have no signs or symptoms of lung cancer. • Have 30-pack years or greater history of tobacco smoking. • Are current smokers or have quit smoking within the last 15 years. • Have a written order for LDCT from a qualified health professional following a shared decision making office visit. If your insurance does not cover this exam, reasonable cash pricing is also available. The best way to prevent lung cancer is to quit smoking. If you or someone you love meets these criteria, please speak to your health care provider about LDCT. – Dr. Mian Valley Radiologists 623.847.2000

Q. What is one of the leading contributors to worsening chronic pain and inflammation?

Q. What can I do to maintain a quality energy level?

Q. How can I reduce the chance of bruising when getting dermal fillers?

A. Just like an automobile needs gasoline A. A leading contributor to chronic pain and maintenance to run well, we need to and inflammation is the food we eat. When symptoms and conditions fail to respond to standard medical therapy, an individual may incorporate an anti-inflammatory diet such as the Institute for Functional Medicine Elimination Diet.

eat healthy and get doctor checkups when necessary. Choosing good food helps determine our energy level and remember: God created tasty, beautiful, healthy fruits and vegetables in all colors of the rainbow. Adding nuts and natural foods is an added bonus.

A. When needles are injected into the skin, there is always a chance for a bruise, but we know that no one wants to walk around with a bruise on their face. While the experience and the technique of your injector is incredibly crucial, there are additional ways to reduce the risk.

The Elimination Diet incorporates nutrient rich food and removes certain foods that are known triggers for inflammation, such as refined and processed carbohydrates, i.e. refined sugar, white flour, white pasta, dairy, and gluten. After three weeks, certain foods are added back into the diet, one at a time, over a three-day period each, to determine if any of the symptoms return. If so, those food items are eliminated from the diet for 3 to 6 months, and are not reintegrated until the gut is healed. Many inflammatory conditions occur because of increased intestinal permeability or “leaky gut.” The standard American diet is notorious for disrupting the gut lining which allows larger particles to come in contact with the immune system. The immune system then creates a response that, if left burning, can fuel the fire in a vicious cycle of inflammation in our bodies, manifested in one form or another. Thousands have been liberated from their symptoms of pain, aches, fatigue, brain fog, mood swings, and rashes by following an anti-inflammatory diet. When the gut lining is healed, the immune system calmed down and the symptoms resolved, many have come off of unnecessary medications, lost significant weight, extinguished the symptoms of chronic inflammation, and have dramatically improved their lives. – Dr. n i t Active Life Physical Medicine & Pain Center 623.535.9777

Coffee and caffeine energy drinks may boost your energy level for a while but can result in a “crash “later on. One can of soda contains more sugar than the American Heart Association recommends for daily intake. Life is full of stress: it can affect our energy level and steal our joy. Simplifying our lifestyle can resolve some stress issues, such as completing projects that loom over us, taking a walk, taking time to smell the flowers, enjoying the sunshine, even saying “hi” to neighbors. Having a strong family, good friends and a life based on attending religious services regularly may not only give you strength and comfort on life’s sometimes difficult journey, it may help you to live longer. “Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.” Isaiah 40:31 Along with these suggestions, why not consider wearing an MBdisc energy wristband, originally designed for athletes? Wearing it on the right arm when you have a busy day may help give you added stamina and endurance.

The use of a microcannula is our primary way to significantly reduce the chance of bruising. Microcannulas are blunt-tip needles threaded through an injection site. Because they are not sharp, this eliminates the perforation of veins with a sharp tip, thus drastically reducing the risk of bruising. We use this advanced injection method almost exclusively. Not only for the reduction in bruising, but for the patient's safety and comfort. It reduces the number of needle sticks, therefore minimizing needle injection pain. Their blunt tips also reduce risks such as vessel occlusion. Other ways to reduce the risk of bruising is to avoid blood thinners for a week before your appointment. Blood thinners can cause you to bruise more easily and cause them to last longer. Blood thinners include aspirin, Advil (Tylenol is fine), fish oil and vitamin E supplements. Also try to avoid alcohol as it thins the blood as well. In the rare event you get a bruise, a topical vitamin K cream, such as Auriderm, can considerably speed up healing time. We also offer complimentary laser bruise treatments that can zap your bruises away as early as the next day after your appointment.

The care of your extensions begins prior to entering the water or even going out in the sun. Leave in conditioner is a must, as it acts as a sunscreen for your hair. Keep in mind, when your hair is dry, it acts as a sponge and will soak up whatever liquid it comes in contact with. Prior to entering a chlorinated pool or salt water, you will always want to wet your hair and add a creamy leave in conditioner. Avoid applying conditioner toward the root area, because the conditioner can loosen the bonds. Make sure you comb the conditioner through the extensions to distribute evenly and then braid into a loose braid. We advise to avoid a ponytail or bun, as they may be too tight and weaken your bonds if you have fusion or taped in extensions installed.

beneficiaries with limited income. There are three main programs and each has different income eligibility requirements.

1. Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) : Pays Medicare Parts A and B monthly premiums, deductibles, co-insurance and co-pays. QMB designation eliminates all out-of-pocket costs for Medicare covered services provided by physicians who participate in Medicare or Medicaid or provide services through a Medicare Advantage Plan’s network. Some insurance carriers offer “Special Needs Plans” designed specifically for those who qualify for QMB. In addition to medically necessary services many of these plans offer extras like dental, vision and hearing benefits. Some also offer a way to receive common over-thecounter items at no cost. 2. Specified Low-income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB) : This designation pays for Medicare’s Part B premium. Qualifying income limits are higher than those who qualify for QMB. 3. Qualifying Individual (QI) : These programs will also pay the Part B premium; income requirements are slightly higher than those with SLMB. All three programs are considered MSPs and are provided by the state for Medicare beneficiaries with limited income. All MSP programs allow Medicare beneficiaries to have “open enrollment,” meaning plan changes can be made anytime throughout the year with no restrictions. For those beneficiaries who do not qualify for an MSP due to a higher income level, there is a federal program called “Limited Income Subsidy” (LIS), which is also referred to as “Extra Help.” This program is specifically designed to help with the cost of prescription drugs.

RELATIONSHIPS & PARENTING

E PRESENT

By MS

Avoid Helicopter Parenting The term "helicopter parent" was first coined in 1969 by teenagers who were quoted in Dr. Haim Ginott's book "Parents & Teenagers." Helicopter parent describes an overbearing parent who would "hover over kids like a helicopter." Nearly 50 years later, the term has persisted, and we even included as a dictionary entry in 2011. Helicopter parenting, sometimes called "lawnmower parenting" or "bulldoze parenting," refers to a style of parenting in which parents are overly focused on the lives of their children, taking extreme responsibility for their children's experiences. As discovered during the study "Helicopter Parents: Examining the Impact of Highly Involved Parents on Student Engagement and Educational Outcomes," by Rick Shoup, Robert M. Gonyea, and George D. Kuh, 38 percent of freshmen and 29 percent of seniors in the United States said their parents intervened on their behalf to solve problems either "very often" or "sometimes."

Adults who are helicopter parents may have good intentions, but they may end up hurting their kids' decision-making ability and self-esteem. Finding the right balance between offering assistance and hovering can be challenging. Adults can first recognize the following signs of potential helicopter parenting and then take strides to give children more breathing room:

Helicopter parenting may seem like parents are simply being overprotective, but such an approach might have a serious impact. Many therapists say that parents need to get over being overly involved; otherwise, they risk potential psychological damage to their children.

· Paying adult children's bills or offering extensive financial assistance. · Doing chores for children that are age-appropriate and fully within kids' abilities to handle. · Calling teachers or professors to negotiate grades. · Texting or calling a child constantly for updates on his or her day. · Using mobile phone technology or social media to "spy" or keep close tabs on kids' interactions at all times. · Failing to let children make their own mistakes, including getting poor grades or missing assignments.

According to Chris Meno, an Indiana University psychologist, helicopter parenting can take a serious toll on the psychological well-being of children into adulthood. Those who have been over parented may have difficulty knowing when to ask for help versus when to make their own decisions. Being overly focused on their children can be problematic for adults, too - potentially making their lives more about their kids and less about their own lives. This may lead to unnecessary anxiety. According to Ann Dunnewold, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist and author of "Even June Cleaver Would Forget the Juice Box," helicopter parenting can start with shadowing a toddler, ensuring a child has a certain teacher in elementary school and providing an unhealthy amount of assistance to youngsters when arranging school schedules or helping with homework. .

July 2017 |

Helicopter parenting may actually lead to a strained relationship between parents and children. A 2015 study published in Social Development found that toddlers who are given space to explore and interact with their surroundings on their own have a better relationship with their parents. The experts say parents should be available for their children, but let the kids take the initiative to seek their parents out. Altering helicopter parenting behaviors can take time, but it is possible, and kids can benefit greatly from such changes.

Birthday Party Pointers By MS

Hosting birthday parties that touch on all the right notes can be easier if parents follow a handful of strategies that many parents have been employing for years. Focus on fun and making your child feel special. Some parents feel birthday parties must be expensive and all-encompassing bashes. But many children simply want parties that allow them to participate in an activity they enjoy, eat sweets, and share the experience with their closest friends. Recognizing this can help parents keep their workloads and budgets in check.

Trim the guest list. Parents should not feel the need to invite every acquaintance to their children's birthday parties. Parents understandably don't want to exclude or offend anyone by leaving them off the guest list. However, try to limit the guests to around 10, including the guest of honor. This makes the entire party more manageable. Keep it quiet. Make sure your child avoids bragging about the party at school or at extracurricular activities. Doing so many offend those classmates who are not on the guest list. Send invites directly to homes rather than distributing them at school so that no one feels excluded. Develop backup plans. There's no accounting for the weather, illness, venue cancellations or food flops. Always have a plan B (and, ideally, a plan C and plan D) so that the kids can stay entertained. Encourage drop-and-go. Hosting young children can be

stressful. And when parents attend the party as well, entertaining duties expand to an entirely different level. Recruit another helper or two and be sure parents know you are comfortable with them not staying for the party. They may even appreciate your looking after their children for a few hours.

Plan for additional guests. Part of planning for the

unexpected includes being able to accommodate a few extra children. You never know when a sibling will have to tag along.

Open gifts after guests leave. Opening gifts is timeconsuming, and young children may not be adept at filtering their comments. No one should go home feeling their gift was not appreciated. azhealthandliving.com |

FITNESS, NUTRITION & SPORTS

STAY ACTIVE & FIT

By MS

The Benefits of Including Yoga in Your Exercise Routine Yoga continues to grow in popularity. In a questionnaire administered every five years as part of the National Health Interview Survey, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health and the National Center of Health Statistics found that the number of people practicing yoga increased dramatically between 2002 and 2012, when approximately 21 million adults acknowledged practicing yoga. That figure equated to nearly double the number of people who practiced yoga just 10 years earlier. The almost meteoric rise in popularity of yoga can likely be traced to many factors, including a growing awareness among the public regarding the impact a healthy lifestyle can have on both short term and long-term health. An essential component of a healthy lifestyle involves taking steps to protect our bodies, and that can include making an effort to reduce the aches and pains that are often associated with aging. The relaxation techniques incorporated in yoga can lessen chronic pain, such as lower back pain, arthritis, headaches and carpal tunnel syndrome, according to Natalie Nevins, DO, a board-certified osteopathic family physician and certified Kundalini Yoga instructor. The American Osteopathic Association notes the benefits of yoga extend even further than relieving chronic pain. According to the AOA, yoga can help men, women and even children increase their flexibility as well as help them build stronger, more toned muscles. Additional benefits of yoga include weight reduction, improved cardiovascular and circulatory health and improved energy and vitality. But the benefits of yoga extend beyond the physical to the mental. The American Psychological Association notes that several studies have shown that yoga can help strengthen social attachments, reduce stress and relieve anxiety, depression and insomnia. For example, a 2012 study from researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that a particular type of yoga that included brief, daily meditation reduced the stress levels of caregivers tasked with caring for people suffering from Alzheimer's disease and dementia. 46 July 2017 | azhealthandliving.com

One of the more attractive aspects of yoga is that it requires little or no financial commitment on the part of the people who practice it. Unlike fitness centers that typically require members to commit to yearly contracts or even potentially costly month-to-month memberships, many yoga studies do not require long-term commitments, instead asking that customers pay a small amount each time they visit if they are hesitant to commit to memberships. In addition, yoga requires just a mat and some appropriate clothing; ideally clothing that's conducive to flexibility but not so loose that it will prevent you from performing certain poses. Before including yoga in your exercise regimen, speak with your physician. Once you get the green light, look for a beginner's course, explaining to your instructor that you are just starting out. Many yoga studios offer introductory classes that help men and women acclimate their bodies to yoga and the various poses it entails before moving on to more challenging poses.

Healthy Cooking Techniques By MS

A large part of healthy eating involves choosing the right foods. In addition to choosing the right foods, health-conscious individuals must choose the right methods to prepare those foods in order to maximize their nutritional value. Healthconscious men and women can employ the following strategies to make meals as healthy as possible.

Stock up on healthy recipes. Purchase cookbooks that showcase healthy recipes or peruse the internet for heathy recipes. Choose smart fats. All oils are loaded in calories, but healthy oils can still be used without sacrificing flavor. Olive oil is an unsaturated fat that is a much healthier choice than butter or saturated fats. When cooking with oil, do so in moderation. Think about baking foods. Baking is handy for more than breads and desserts. Baking is one method of cooking that may not require the addition of fat. Meats that are baked can be placed on top of a rack, so that excess fat drips off and is contained in the bottom of the pan. Explore poaching, broiling and grilling. Poaching, broiling and grilling are three healthy alternatives to frying. Broiling and grilling expose food to direct heat, so it is a fast method of cooking and may not be appropriate for foods that require longer cooking times to tenderize. Poaching is the process of simmering foods in water or another flavorful liquid. Use minimally refined ingredients. Select among whole grains and ingredients that have not been refined. The closer a product is to its natural state, the more nutritional properties it is likely to have retained. Season foods yourself. Rather than relying on prepackaged seasonings, mix your own blends. Packaged seasonings generally contain a lot of salt. Use fresh herbs whenever possible for the freshest of flavor. Add heat for flavor. Spicy pepper, dry mustard and other zesty flavor enhancers can make foods taste delicious without added calories. Trim excess fats. Prepare meats and poultry well by trimming the fat and skin to make the final product even healthier. azhealthandliving.com | July 2017

REJUVENATE

Reasons Why You Should Routinely Update Your Cosmetics Cosmetics are not only designed to help individuals improve their appearance, but they also can be used to treat various ailments and conditions. Millions of people enjoy the benefits that cosmetics can provide, and while cosmetics are largely considered female products, they can be used by men as well. Makeup, skin creams, ointments, and many other items can be found in homes across the world. It's not uncommon for people to keep beauty products long after these items are past their prime without realizing that these products have shelf lives. According to Jessica Wu, M.D., an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Southern California, most beauty products are designed to stay fresh and stable for a limited time. Failure to routinely update makeup collections can result in products not working to their potential and even threatening health, as bacteria can hideaway in containers and cause infections. The best way to avoid any issues is to regularly go through cosmetic products, tossing out old merchandise and buying new items when necessary. This can be done every few months or at the start of the New Year. The following is a listing of the shelf life of many popular items and when to replace them.

Unopened products: If you have some cosmetic products that haven't yet been opened, they might remain stable for a couple of years at room temperature, according to chemists at Cosmetech Laboratories in New Jersey. Air can cause formulas to oxidize, and germs can be transferred to products when they are touched.

Eye products: Mascara and eyeliners make contact with the eye, an area of the body that is sensitive and vulnerable to infection. These items should be discarded every three to six months to prevent the formation of bacteria. Eyeliner pencils have longer shelf lives than mascaras because they're being sharpened.

Foundation: Liquid foundations last around a year, and storing them in a cool, dark place will help them last even longer. After a year, the foundation could separate and its consistency may change. When applying foundation, avoid using your fingers, which can cause bacteria to build up more quickly. 48 July 2017 | azhealthandliving.com

Body brushes and loofah sponges: Acne and infections on the body may be a result of products and beauty items that are kept in the shower. Constantly being wet and in a warm, dark place makes these items the perfect breeding grounds for bacteria. Discard these items every few months, and make sure they're washed out and allowed to dry completely after each use. Lip-gloss and lipstick: People run the risk of mouth sores by using old lipsticks and lip-glosses. Bacteria can easily be transferred from the mouth to these items. Generally speaking, it's a good idea to discard lip products between six months to a year after purchase. What's more, color changes can occur and the products' quality may begin to degrade. If makeup and other cosmetic products have been sitting around for a while, it's likely time to buy a new collection to maintain safety and function.

A2M – A NonSurgical “Cure” for Osteoarthritis and Inflammation is Here!

Wouldn’t it be great to wake up in the mornings without stiffness and pain in your arthritic joints? Or to take your dog for a long walk without worrying about “paying for it” the next day? Now, imagine being able to have like new joints – without replacement surgery. This is the promise of a protein molecule called Alpha-2-Macroglobulin, more commonly referred to as A2M. A2M is a recently discovered compound that arrests the degradation of the cartilage caused by osteoarthritis (OA) and protects the joint.

Gal Gadot

Hollywood’s latest superhero Israeli actress and model Gal Gadot is the star of one of the summer’s biggest hits, “Wonder Woman.” While she seems like an overnight success to many new fans, Gadot has actually been in the entertainment industry for more than a decade. She has starred in “The Fast and Furious” franchise and as Wonder Woman in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” She will reprise her role as Wonder Woman later this year in “Justice League.” In addition, she has acted in many roles internationally and is a distinguished model in several international ad campaigns. Thanks to Gadot’s stellar performance, “Wonder Woman” holds a 97% positive on Rotten Tomatoes, the highest score of any Marvel film or DC Comics movie to date, according to multiple media outlets. “It shows that superhero movies aren’t just about men. They’re about women as well,” says Jeff Goldstein, distribution chief for Warner Bros. to The Times of Israel. “All the noise about Patty Jenkins breaking the glass ceiling for directors, I think that added to it as well.” As the world gets to know more about the latest Wonder Woman, her unique background comes to light. “Gadot was born and raised in Israel, entering the army for two years. The daughter of a teacher mom and an engineer dad, she surprised herself by winning the Miss Israel pageant in 2004,” cites a recent USA TODAY article. “Gadot attended a year of law school before unsuccessfully auditioning to be a Bond girl in 2008's Quantum of Solace and ultimately gained fame through the Fast and Furious franchise.” 50 July 2017 | azhealthandliving.com

With the role of Wonder Woman launching her into international stardom, Gadot appears humble as she speaks her mind on hot topics like fame and feminism. “Power and strength are qualities that are very familiar with men,” says Gadot to USA TODAY. “And once women have this quality, then automatically they’re (written as) colder. ... But in real life, it’s not true. Most women who are strong, they’re very loving and warm and inclusive.” But "for me, I live my life as Gal every day," she continues to share with USA TODAY. "When I came back from the premiere (after midnight) with bags of In-N-Out, my daughter was up because she didn’t want to go to sleep. You go back to normal life. It’s not that I got back and all the Amazons are waiting for me at the house!" In addition to balancing a skyrocketing career, Gadot is also married and the mom of two girls—one age 5, and one that was born in March. She was pregnant when shooting reshoots for “Wonder Woman.” “Gal Gadot may not actually be Wonder Woman, but there were days on the set of Warner Bros.’ newest superhero film when she certainly came close,” cites an ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY article. “Take November of last year for example, when the then-31-year-old Israeli actress, five months pregnant with her second child, returned to Leavesden Studios outside London to finish some reshoots. Her baby bump was no longer inconspicuous, so costumers cut an ample triangle from the front of her suit, replacing it with a bright green cloth that would allow the special effects department to alter her figure in post-production.” When it comes to advice for other working moms, Gadot recommends mindfulness. “We need to reconnect with ourselves, and the only way to do it is through simple things such as meditation or putting the phone aside one day a week or during the weekend,” she tells ESPN W. To learn more, visit www.galgadot.com, where you can find links to all of Gadot’s social media pages. azhealthandliving.com |July 2017

EXCEL & ACHIEVE

CAREER, BUSINESS & FINANCE By Lauren Davenport, CEO and founder of The Symphony Agency, www.symphonyagency.com

Four Tips for Finding a Career Mentor It’s not unusual for careers to get off to wobbly starts as young people, hampered by their lack of experience and contacts, find it difficult to achieve a firm footing. That’s one reason they should make it a goal to find mentors who could help guide them through the rough patches. One of the biggest benefits of having a mentor is that person’s success can act as a catalyst for your belief in yourself. It’s also a way to expand your network because a mentor can introduce you to people who could help you with your career and who you otherwise might not meet. While mentors can be a great asset for young people in their career advancement, don’t expect the mentor to materialize out of nowhere and then do all the heavy lifting. Much of the onus is on the mentee to seek the relationship, cultivate it, and make the most of it. A few ways to do that include:

Don’t be afraid to reach out. A simple LinkedIn search can help you find people who are currently in your dream job. Somehow, they managed to get the very thing you want. How did they pull that off? Send them a short message and tell them your aspirations. Ask if they can spare 30 minutes for you to visit their office and “pick their brains” about how they achieved success. Do your homework. After you went to all the trouble to set up that meeting, you don’t want to show up unprepared. Learn all you can about this potential mentor with a Google search. Write down any questions you want to ask. For the meeting, dress like you already have a job with the person’s company and be 10 minutes early. Join a networking organization. If reaching out to an individual isn’t in your comfort zone, seek a networking 56 July 2017 | azhealthandliving.com

organization that focuses on career growth. Sign up for a MeetUp group taught by someone you admire. Take notes as the person speaks. After the event, you’re also going to need to muster up the courage to introduce yourself. To find a good mentor, in most cases you really are going to need to take the first step.

Pay attention to the mentor’s advice. You may not follow through on every suggestion, but you do need to listen to what they have to say. After all, the wisdom and experience they can provide is the whole point of having a mentor.

AGING WELL

STAY HEALTHY

By MS

Eat Healthy at 50 and Beyond A balanced diet is an integral element of a healthy lifestyle for men, women and children alike. But while kids and young adults might be able to get away with an extra cheeseburger here or there, men and women approaching 50 have less leeway. According to the National Institute on Aging, simply counting calories without regard for the foods being consumed is not enough for men and women 50 and older to maintain their long-term health. Rather, the NIA emphasizes the importance of choosing low-calorie foods that have a lot of the nutrients the body needs. But counting calories can be an effective and simple way to maintain a healthy weight, provided those calories are coming from nutrient-rich foods. The NIA advises men and women over 50 adhere to the following daily calorie intake recommendations as they attempt to stay healthy into their golden years.

Women · Not physically active: 1,600 calories · Somewhat active: 1,800 calories · Active lifestyle: between 2,000 and 2,200 calories

Men · Not physically active: 2,000 calories · Somewhat active: between 2,200 and 2,400 calories · Active lifestyle: between 2,400 and 2,800 calories When choosing foods to eat, the NIA recommends eating many different colors and types of vegetables and fruits. Phytochemicals are substances that occur naturally in plants, and there are thousands of these substances offering various benefits. The Produce for Better Health Foundation notes that a varied, colorful diet incorporates lots of different types of phytochemicals, which the PBH says have diseasepreventing properties. 60 July 2017

| azhealthandliving.com

The NIA also advises that men and women over 50 make sure at least half the grains in their diets are whole grains. Numerous studies have discovered the various benefits of whole grains, which are loaded with protein, fiber, antioxidants and other nutrients. Whole grains have been shown to reduce the risk for diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some types of cancer. Another potential hurdle men and women over 50 may encounter is a change in their sense of smell and taste. A person's sense of smell may fade with age, and because smell and taste are so closely related, foods enjoyed for years may no longer tantalize the taste buds. That can be problematic, as many people instinctually add more salt to foods they find bland. According to the U.S. Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, older adults should consume no more than 1,500 milligrams of sodium per day. That equates to roughly 3/4 teaspoon of salt. Older men and women should resist the temptation to use salt to add flavor to foods, instead opting for healthy foods that they can still smell and taste. In addition, men and women should mention any loss of their sense of smell to their physicians, as such a loss may indicate the presence of Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease. Maintaining a healthy diet after 50 may require some hard work and discipline. But the long-term benefits of a healthy diet make the extra effort well worth it.

STAY HEALTHY

AGING WELL By Ann Vanderslice, president and CEO of Retirement Planning Strategies and author of Fedtelligence 2.0 - The Ultimate Guide to Mastering Your Federal Benefits, www.annvanderslice.com

How to Stay Young (At Least in Spirit) When You’re Retired Mohr Keet of South Africa bungee jumped when he was 96, landing himself in the Guinness Board of World Records. Yuichiro Miura of Japan climbed Mount Everest when he was 80. Not everyone in the golden years of life will attempt and accomplish such extraordinary feats, but most people can take steps to keep themselves young – at least in spirit – when they reach retirement. Unfortunately, for many people retirement planning remains fixated on finances, so when the big day arrives they’re not quite ready to segue into life’s new chapter. After you’ve planned for the money, there is still anxiety about retirement. You don’t know what it’s like to not work and so there is that emotional part of retirement you need to manage. Sometimes people aren’t ready in any way, shape or form. Here are a few ways to hang on to a little youthful exuberance while aging gracefully in retirement include:

Be a lifelong learner. Making the effort to learn about new things keeps our brains young. Read something you wouldn’t normally read. Sit in on a lecture that a college opens to the public. It’s proven that those who are lifelong learners have a greater sense of optimism and a lower chance of dementia.

See the world – or at least some of it. There are no doubt plenty of places you haven’t ventured out to, some close by and others far away. Traveling and enjoying new experiences is a great way to keep you feeling young and enthusiastic about life, whether you head to a state park just an hour’s drive away or you board a plane bound for Paris. Part of the fun of traveling is deciding where you want to go. The sky should be the limit. Don’t eliminate anything from your initial list just because of expense. You might be able to find bargains, and because you’re retired you can travel any time you want, which allows you go in the offseason when prices are lower. 62 July 2017

| azhealthandliving.com

Remember your doctor’s advice. Activities such as enrolling in a college class can help keep you mentally young, but you want your body to cooperate, too. We’re always looking for that magic bullet, the easy and quick way to feeling younger. The truth is that those things your doctor tells you – exercise, eat a healthy diet, get the appropriate amount of sleep – are about as close to a magic bullet as you’re going to get. People think that money is the most important aspect of retirement, but it’s really No. 2. You can have more than enough money, but if you aren’t healthy or doing the things you enjoy, the money won’t matter.

Three Money-Saving Travel Tips for Retirees

etirees who fear they cannot afford to travel can explore the various ways for seniors to cut costs and still satisfy their wanderlust during retirement.

Take advantage of age-related discounts. ome adults

prefer to hide their ages, but when it comes time to travel during retirement, honesty is the best policy. Many businesses that cater to travelers offer discounts to seniors. Car rental agencies, hotels, travel agencies, and cruise lines may offer direct discounts to customers and older, while membership in organizations such as AAA and AA P may make seniors eligible for additional discounts. iscounts on lodging and airfare might net the biggest savings, but even discounts on various smaller expenses can add up to big savings.

Don't overlook travel agencies. While many prospective travelers' first instincts are now to visit various travel websites in an effort to find the most affordable trips, it's important that travelers not overlook travel agencies when planning trips. ravel websites, though a valuable resource, only list the hotels and airlines that agree to be included on their sites. While many participate, some do not, and those that do not may instead work independent of travel websites or partner with travel agencies. ravel agencies have access to the latest information, and many specialize in certain countries, knowing all the attractions visitors to their countries want to see. ravel agencies may offer packages that include admissions to popular attractions, which can be more affordable than planning a trip a la carte. Travel as part of a group. etirees who are uncomfortable driving at home will likely be even less comfortable driving in foreign countries where the rules of the road are not the same. raveling in groups, whether it's with a retirement community, religious organization or another program can save travelers substantial amounts of money. Many hotels and tourist attractions offer steep discounts for group tours, which can even be arranged through travel agencies. A hidden benefit of signing up for a group tour is the chance to meet new people and develop new relationships with fellow globetrotters.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called failure, a loop called confusion, speed bumps called friends, red lights called enemies, caution lights called family. You will have flats called jobs. But, if you have a spare called determination, an engine called perseverance, insurance called faith and a driver named Jesus—you will make it to a place called success.” – Author Unknown
