Welcome, to the first edition of Arlais. Dreaming Arlais to life was both a beautiful and enormous project. Challenging the visual to match the expectation was always going to be the work. This publication is a combination of my lifetime in media and movement, finally a home for both passions to unify in purpose. Never shy away, the life your heart dreams of living is on the other side of the work. These pages are designed with a contemporary feel, filled with insights into wellbeing, life and inspiration. With each turn of the page, with each story shared honestly embrace the knowing that Arlais is a haven of love and service to a community of people brave enough to show up for themselves and do the work. Over the coming issues I look forward to deepening our connection and creating more and more pages of that which you love to read through.

NOURISH YOUR WINTER WELLBEING We all know that wintertime brings comfort foods, whether it is a slow-cooked beef and vegetable soup or a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold Sunday night. Unfortunately, winter also brings a quick change in temperature that challenges our immune system of any nasty bugs, colds or flu’s. Suddenly, our body doesn’t feel as strong and before we know it we are forced to bring out the cold and flu tablets and are left feeling quite miserable on the couch watching Netflix… Now, there’s nothing wrong with a morning spent on the couch rugged up but I’d rather it be doing it by choice then forced by the cold or flu. I’d like to shed some light on the importance of food throughout the change in season, to ensure our bodies remain strong. Also, I’ll provide tips and tricks on what to do if you do come down with a cold to make sure you bounce back quicker than ever.

A | 7

NUTRITION FROM FOOD IS VERY POWERFUL TO OUR OVERALL HEALTH Nutrition from food is very powerful to our overall health, it’s just having the power of knowledge to know if it’s either going to help you or make you worse! Preventing the Cold and Flu: Lets talk environments! Think of a beautiful flower garden… In order for flowers to grow and flourish we need to ensure the environment is correct. Water, soil, fertiliser and sun are vital components. That way, we work hard on making sure we provide these things to help our flowers grow. However… bacteria, viruses and pathogens also need a specific environment to live in – the only difference is that we don’t want to let these little nasty bugs grow. So, if we understand what type of environment they like, we can do the exact opposite to try and ‘starve’ them from the body, rather then ‘feed’ them. On the days where we feel sick and are craving foods such as chocolate, ice cream or sweet foods… unfortunately it’s exactly what that virus wants to keep surviving! Below is a breakdown of what environment these nasty little bugs love…

A | 8

Bugs thrive with three ingredients present in your day to day life. Sugar & Sweetness

Pathogens will use sweet foods or drinks as ‘fuel’ and continue to grow in your body. Inflammation

Pathogens also thrive in ‘acidic’ environments that are exacerbated by alcohol, excess caffeine (more than 2 per day) and foods with added sugars Stress

Some bacteria live in what we call ‘anaerobic conditions’ which means they don’t need oxygen to survive. When we challenge the body with over-exercising, poor sleep and increasing our daily stressors we induce more ‘anaerobic’ conditions in the body – therefore allowing these pathogens to survive.

Your first Restorative Yoga class will require you to breathe in a manner that most have not in some time. It's long holds creating a crack in the possibility of the unlimited expansiveness that belongs to your soul yet to have been explored. You will yearn for more.

A neurological response that tells us we are safe, pulls us out of "flight or fight" mode, and initiates the body's self-healing process. We switch over from worrying about staying "safe" to fostering the longevity systems of longterm health, including digestion, elimination, reproduction, growth, repair, and immunity.

Considered the most advanced of the Yoga practices, Restorative requires you to open to the practice of conscious relaxation. Releasing the ever present habitual tension the body has become accustom to holding.

Explore with curiosity the practice of Restorative yoga and with self love yield to the process of restoring yourself to the ever expansive spirit you are, that you always have been, that you always shall be.

This energy is about showing up and voicing your truth, saying no to anything that no longer serves the highest good of all. However presently the rising of the sacred feminine is meeting with an interference, old “divide and conquer” energies. Recognise it, alchemise it, show it the power of divine love. Move forward. . Do not fall prey to its drama, its distraction or its division. Stay heartcentred and focused in your path of co-creating your own world of inner peace. There is a clarion call for the sacred feminine to rise within us all and to stand for change in the direction of truth, in living in harmony with nature, in rhythm with Gaia, walking in respect and love for all sentient beings. In turn this alignment will awaken our remembrance of our divine nature, our true essence, our compassionate hearts, our authentic real selves.

As consciousness rises within hold all relationships as sacred including the one you have with yourself, the Divine Feminine is wanting to be awakened within you.

Becoming Mum THE OPEN STORY OF SURROGACY.

A | 19

18

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a mum. It wasn’t something I ever questioned - it was a matter of when, not if. After my husband Craig and I were married, on our honeymoon in fact, we started trying for a baby. Six months later, it became apparent that this wasn’t going to be as easy as it looked. Little did we know the journey that lay ahead…….. For the next 7 years we were on a constant rollercoaster of emotions that always started in excitement and anticipation, and most often ended in heartache and disappointment. We endured IVF treatments which involved daily self-administered injections (in your stomach), scans and egg retrieval operations. We tried different diets, homeopathy, acupuncture and anything else that promised to improve fertility.

In the end we were told that Surrogacy was our only option. We were blessed when my husband’s sister, Renee, selflessly volunteered to have our baby. But that’s not where our journey ended.

A | 20

"TODAY YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW THE STRUGGLES WE ENDURED." For the next two years we kept fighting through IVF treatments, miscarriage and lots of tears. We continually picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves off, and kept pushing forward. We did this over and over again. Finally, five years after we began our journey, we were handed our little miracle. We now had the family we’d always dreamed of and were living our happily ever after. Two weeks later I miraculously and accidentally fell pregnant. Shock, excitement and panic set in. It didn’t last too long though – at 9 weeks, I miscarried. The anger I felt was overwhelming. Here I was, a newborn baby boy snuggled safely in my arms, and I was grieving the loss of another baby. I felt cheated by life. Again and used this to drive me. It gave me hope. If I could fall pregnant once, I could do it again. So 6 months later I fell pregnant again, and this one stuck. Today you would never know the struggles we endured. We have a beautiful little boy called Luca who is a gentle and kind little soul, and our gorgeous Sophie is a headstrong yet sensitive little girl. But the scars still remain.

A fertility journey is a lonely path to walk down. You put up your walls, you shut yourself off from the rest of the world, put your head down and do whatever it takes to get through it. You feel angry all the time, you’re frustrated that this isn’t happening the way you imagined, and you feel like a constant failure – especially when it seems like the whole world is falling pregnant around you. You push those feeling down, and eventually, your fertility journey completely consumes you. You’re numb and you can’t remember the last time you felt truly happy. My journey has inspired me to help others on the same path. Today I am a fertility mentor and coach. I help women who are on the same path replace those feelings of anger and frustration, with peace and anticipation. I have created a private Facebook community where women who are struggling to conceive can share their real emotions and thoughts without fear of judgement. Where they can connect with others who are on the same journey and draw strength in the knowledge that they are not alone. Be supported by someone who knows exactly what they’re going through. Learn practical techniques they can implement to help them not only survive this season, but come out a better and stronger person. Gain hope, be inspired and encouraged to keep moving forward and achieve their dream of becoming a mum. This path has led me to write a book about my journey. My goal is to provide women who are impacted by infertility a voice, and bring awareness to something that affects one in six couples in Australia. If you or someone you know would like some support, reach out to Jen on her social pages.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
