Who Are Ya? Happy 31st birthday tomorrow for our summer arrival from Espanyol. The plan is a two year stay here for Paco, and as yet we have only seen brief glimpses of him playing wide of midfield. Not the speediest of players, he has a laid back style and an eye for a telling short pass or flick to let a team mate into the action. Born in Castellan, Valencia he started out with the youth of CD Castellan and earned a move to Barcelona, he didn’t mind biding his time, working through the C and then B team before getting a run out for the seniors in 2006. Villareal B was Paco’s next stop, he put in three seasons for them before switching to Ontinyent, also in the third tier. That was one of his better seasons, helping the club to a play off spot only to be denied by Alcorcon, who on winning promotion offered him a contract. After two campaigns, he caught the eyes of Zaragoza and became their player for four seasons. The money dried up at Zaragoza and Paco left the troubled club. Espanyol threw a lifeline with a four year contract, but after only two years Paco’s appearances were few and far between. He was sent on loan to Levante, which turned out to be good move for him and his new team, as they romped away with the LaLiga 123 title. Even at his age, he is worth a gamble for Tenerife, we need all the attacking players we can possibly fit in.

A warm welcome to everyone today and also to our visiting team today
de Tarragona, who may be playing their last match for a while in ral NasticHeliodoro. Not because that I think that we are going up and they El Gene the are going down, or vice-versa, it is just that next year they could be playing in the French League if Catalunya get their Independence. What if The Canary Islands followed suit and gained independence one day? At least Tenerife may be in with a chance of winning a trophy then. The Canaries League and Cup double could be ours. But seriously, Tenerife really are up against it today with so many players out injured. Also midfielder Bryan Acosta will be on World Cup duty with Honduras, that is the risk any club takes when they sign foreign internationals. We did think we would be losing Jorge Saenz to the Spain U21 team, but thankfully he is now available to play. Carlos Ruiz is expected to be out for three to four weeks, so this is Aveldaños’ opportunity maybe. Other players who could deputise would be Alberto, or if really desperate (and we would have to be), Vitolo. Gimnastic only have one win under their belt so far, against struggling Albacete. But in view of the number of missing key players we have today, I will take any type of win. It’s going to be tough, but hopefully the replacements won’t let us down. te!

Without taking things too seriously. Elio-Doro, Chicharro and Pinzón Azul are the names of the final suggestions for a club mascot. A fish, a blue finch, or an elephant (see page 1). Elio Doro in fact was a previous attempt at introducing a mascot at the club, but had a lot of disapproval as it was not an animal native to the island. Resemblances between Elio Doro and Miguel Concepcion are purely coincidental. Chris’s entry ‘Banana with Attitude’ was sadly rejected. The Copa del Rey first leg has been confirmed for Thursday 26th October at 20.30 pm. This will hopefully give us a Sunday home game for a change, as otherwise we would be playing on Saturday 28th as well. Odds on now, it will be rescheduled for Monday 30th, just to wind us up that little bit more. The La Liga Promises 7-a-side tournament is being brought back to Tenerife over the Christmas holidays this year. For the first time CD Tenerife youth will be represented. Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Juventus and AS Roma will also be present. It is held at CD Marinos’ stadium and is free entry.
Todays’ opponents Gimnastic had their game against Barca B postponed last Sunday, due to the situation in Catalunya. Giving them an extra weeks lay off to prepare for todays’ game. Numancia and Valladolid both won by considerable margins, albeit against teams in the bottom four. Almeria, Huesca and Lugo were all below us a fortnight ago, but are at the moment in the top six after all winning last week, painfully at our expense in the case of Lugo (thanks ref). Hard to see Albacete or Sevilla surviving this season, with Sevilla still having to win a game so far. Gimnastic and Cordoba are not too far away from safety, but Cordobas’ away record is even worse than ours. Mid table sees a lot of clubs just one win away from the top six. And with teams struggling to win away from home, there will be a lot of changeability in the coming weeks. Numancia have yet to win away, but are the only club left with a 100% record. Will they fall away like other years, or has their time come?

Juan Carlos Real, MVP for August and September We only actually played two games in August. But his goal against Barca B set us up for our only away victory so far, coupled with a steady performance against Zaragoza the week before, where he supplied the cross for Carlos Ruizs’ winning header. In September he scored another league goal and two in the cup, as well as providing a cracking assist for Casadesus against Alcorcon. In so doing he has picked up the September award too. Not a bad start on his return to the club after two seasons in Romania.
