Who’s a pretty boy then? A one match suspension may have come at an opportune moment for Jorge Saenz, he can fine tune his well groomed, well dressed style for his venture into modelling. Tenerife Moda, the government’s fashion promotion window for local designers have hired him to promote how good young people can look. This is not a new departure for CD Tenerife players. Another centre back Pablo Sicilia, has graced the cat walk since his retirement and made quite a name for himself. Pablo has also been doing presentation work for television and big events. Maybe he should launch a fragrance in time for Christmas. Then there’s the case of Vitolo. For years he has had his own leisure wear company, but recently he has become a swim wear model for The Knot Company. This Tenerife brand had an advertising campaign using the Santa Cruz tram at the start of this season, so a giant version of Vitolo in swimming trunks became a traffic stopper on the route between Santa Cruz and La Laguna. Could modelling could be a lucrative side line? Jorge may well be building something to fall back on (whoops don’t mention fall) in years ahead, but the obvious choice would seem to be coach Pep Marti. His neat line in casual sweaters has marked him out as a dedicated follower of fashion. So here we are, the knives are out for our manager Pep Marti in some l quarters, but I think it is slightly unfair. CDT are sitting in a comfortable a r e n e G situation in the league looking more up than down and if we can win tonight l E we will be coming home later in fifth position, albeit before this weekends other results. We all want to see the team challenging the top few, and we are better placed than at this stage last season, but this years division is even more crazy than usual. How can bottom side Sevilla go to leaders Granada and win? What about relegation placed side Alcorcon that travelled to high flying Osasuna and won 2-3 with 10 men last week? There is a long way to go and we have just hit a small rut, with two wins, one defeat and six draws in last nine matches, not the end of the world. Let’s get behind the team with a smile on our face (helped by a few Doradas) rather than enter the stadium with a long face demanding Barcelona like football. If I did have to criticise Marti at all it would be that he has still to find his best formation and we are still trying things out, like still being in a pre-season. Also experts say that many times we are far too wary of our rivals, changing tactics to suit that particular game, rather than let them worry about us. Marti is a young manager in his first managerial appointment, obviously that should not come at the expense of our team, but I think we should give him a big vote of confidence. In January we for once have some cash to splash and positions that will be strengthened are at center half and a creative midfielder, what would we do to have Gaku Shibasaki back in this team?

Thanks to everyone for your contributions to the various fund raising events we have running at present. Still some t-shirts left in aid of the ‘Walk for Life’ event and also if you haven’t bought your raffle tickets for the Xmas draw yet, please see Bob tonight. Bryan Acosta finally made a start in the World Cup qualifier against Australia. Sadly for the Hondurans it was not to be, as they lost 3-1, with Acosta unfortunately giving away a penalty for the Socceroos’ third goal. The ordeal didn’t end there for Acosta, as visa problems have apparently led him to be unable to rejoin the squad in time to prepare for tonights’ game. Following on from the previous news sheet, where there was concern that extending the contracts of older players would be deemed a bit unambitious, the club duly extended the contracts of Aitor Sanz and Victor Vitolo, who both own boots that are actually older than Brian Martin. Fair to say though that the average age of the Huescas’ midfield is about the same, including the 37 year old veteran skipper Juanjo Camacho who has stuck with them through thick and thin since 2008. One can only admire loyalty such as this.

Well if we didn’t know what the expected standard was before, we do now. Huesca did finish in a play off spot last season, but with the departure of Samu Saiz to Leeds United, their prospects didn’t seem as good. However, with the loan of Hernandez from Watford, and the improvement of Gonzalo Melero, they are looking pretty formidable. Other teams that were making the running, haven’t faired too well recently. Sporting find themselves down in eighth after a disappointing run, and Numancia are still in the top six, but with only one win in the last six games. Cadiz have improved after winning the last three in a row, including an impressive away victory at Sporting last week. The teams at the bottom remain unchanged, but they must feel they haven’t totally lost touch, although Sevilla and Cordoba are now six points from safety. Almeria ended a bad run of losses with a comfortable victory over Zaragoza which may be the turning point for them. Hopefully not as we are away to them next week.
