Squeezing in through the rapidly closing January transfer window, Alex Mula, on loan from Primera Malaga has been an instant hit with his work rate and much needed work on the left wing. The 21 year old has plenty more to offer and hopefully his full range will unfold over the remainder of our season. A Catalan by birth, Alex came through the Espanyol youth system before moving to Malaga in 2013 to play for Club Atletico Malegueno. After making his Tercera Division debut against San Pedro as a 17 year old, it must have been sweet to open his goal tally later with a hat trick in a 7-0 win over CD Espanyol del Alquian. In 108 games between 2013 and 2017, Alex banged in 24 goals. The reward for his progress and a shining 2017-18 pre season campaign, was a place in the full Malaga Primera squad. Featuring in the first eight league games but then his chances became fewer and the club were open to our lure of a loan for more experience. Our neglected left sided space was a natural home for Alex and his speedy legs but he can also play as a central striker and on the right if required. Last weeks game at Alcorcon also showed that Alex can track back to cover for his full back, all these are qualities that will make him a valuable addition to our squad.

ral down raised many times. Bad luck of course plays a part but it is not all to that. In case you did not know we have the use of three playing El Gene been
The question of just why we have suffered so many injuries this season has
areas, one obviously is the Heliodoro, the second is the official training pitch at ‘Mundialito’ north of Santa Cruz and the third is the ‘Academy City’ which is located at Geneto. When new manager Etxeberria inspected the regular training facility he was not too impressed with the state of the pitches, so he moved the sessions up to the academy where the B team play and the pitch is a lot better. The problem there however is that the surrounding facilities are not up to standard with the lack of a physio area and a portacabin is still used for the changing rooms. Remember the planned revamping of the academy with accommodation? New changing rooms, gymnasium, spa etc? Concepcions’ big election promise, but so far not a bit of work has started apart from a shiny new sign at the entrance presented a week before the elections funnily enough. As for the stadium pitch, it was supposed to have been relaid last summer after the Aerosmith concert, but apparently no company came along with a project in time. This is not CDTs’ fault as it is down to the council, but it does reflect a lack of forward planning. This summer the new pitch will be laid at a cost of 850.000€ but how many injuries could have been avoided if all the pitches were in excellent condition this season? Lots of little things off the pitch can add up to what happens on the pitch in my opinion, but more about that next time!

Raúl Cámara achieved a personal milestone last week when he reached 336 appearances in the second tier. This makes him sixth in the table of players with most performances at that level. Camara, who will be 34 on Wednesday (28th) joined us in 2013 from Xerez. He has played over 140 times for the club in both left and right back positions. Jorge Saenz was voted January player of the month. On reflection this may be on the same level of ‘least drunk alcoholic’ as it was a month to forget barring our away win at Albacete, which incidentally Jorge never took part in. The B team are still top of their division, but UD San Fernando are only a point behind with a game in hand. Today (Sunday), they will be playing Las Palmas III, who are placed in third. The Las Palmas B team, are currently second bottom of Segunda B. A good turnout in Alcorcon for our travelling fans last week. Alcorcon is one of the easier games to get to as it is in the outskirts of Madrid. Nevertheless, the efforts made by rival away fans travelling to the games here are pretty pathetic in comparison. After all, every single one of our away games is on the peninsula.
Round Up Rayo push their way into second place after an away victory at Leonesa, and Cadiz going down against Numancia. Rayos’ last three victories have been against bottom four opposition, and we’ll see how serious they are as they face Huesca this weekend. Another team to hit serious form are Zaragoza, who although only placed eleventh at the moment have picked up 13 points since the Xmas break. Any team from the top ten at the moment have a realistic chance of a play off spot. Anything below that talk amongst yourselves, as most of us are still nearer the bottom than the top. Still a lot of points to play for, but our awful run of one point from four games at the turn of the season has all but counted us out. Todays’ opponents Lugo come here with similar form, and have lost their last two games. It seems they had the same attitude as us when facing Barca B at home last week, and were defeated 1-2. Barca B have better away form than at home, with eighteen points on their travels and just fifteen at the Mini Estadi.

Scoring rates. Who is the best value? Longo: 1288 minutes played. 17 games. 10 goals. 128 minutes per goal. Villar: 675 minutes played. 17 games. 5 goals. 135 minutes per goal. Malbasic: 1541 minutes played. 25 games. 6 goals. 256 minutes per goal. Casadesus: 1378 minutes played. 19 games. 5 goals. 275 minutes per goal. Juan Carlos: 1387 minutes played. 23 games. 5 goals. 277 minutes per goal. An honourable mention for Juan Carlos who has a strike rate comparable to Casadesus, but from midfield. Longo and Villars’ injury problems are the biggest source of frustration. Had either of them played every game, their goal tally would be around the 15 or 16 mark. Malbasic began the season well, but has struggled to score regularly. A bit unlucky to not start in last weeks’ game after a good performance against Cordoba. Old boy Casadesus probably didn’t expect to be a regular starter, but due to the injuries has had to put in a few shifts. Low strike rate, but crucial goals against Albacete and Lorca.
