COMBAT THE COLD

BY CAMILLA MEISE FASHION EDITOR

The verdict is in! Comfort is key for this cold weather. But can you still “dress to impress” while being comfy and warm?

Swap out the super tight pants, the shapewear and those painful heels for something warm comfy and on trend. I love that the fashion industry is currently encouraging women to embrace their different body types while expressing individual personality and style. And it doesn’t always have to be girly.

When it comes to comfort and personality, think streetwear. Feminine streetwear is breaking boundaries this season and you’ll see some really masculine elements in the mix such as combat pants and boots. We’re not complaining because this look is also about comfort! With the right styling your combat pants and boots just might become your new favourite items in the wardrobe.

As seen in the US fall/winter fashion shows “combatting the cold” is on-trend and designers such as Bottega, Alexandra McQueen and Louis Vuitton are leading the charge.

But as far as we can tell, the classic combat boot never goes out of style. Go for quality Dr. Martens. Sure they’ll set you back a pretty penny, but they will last for years – and I believe whole heartedly in quality over quantity. Combat boots on a budget means going for something like Shubar or Jonnie.

For a feminine look, style your Dr Marten’s with a midi-skirt and colourful knit then dress it all up with a good trench coat. (A good trench dresses up any look instantly.)

If you’re into grunge, go for a “combat jumpsuit” with your Dr Martens and add a fur coat for a bit of feminine flair.
