“Our customers are the focal point for our conceptual work; each piece originates with our users. We do this through research and spending time with customers to gain an understanding of the pain-points associated with technology and how this tech weaves into people’s lives.” —Marie Schmidt, Head of Brand and Design at Bang & Olufsen
Getting from one place to another is something we all do in life and is considered very easy. Or so one might think. Unfortunately, this is not so for everyone, for some people these so called ‘easy’ events or tasks we perform everyday may be difficult for those suffering from learning difficulties. However, this must change. We believe that everyone should get to their destination with time and know how to tell time. This should be met with great experience including those with learning difficulties. This is something our new line of products focus on. Bringing people together.

PROBLEM
Dyspraxia and dyscalculia are horrible difficulties and could really become an anchor to the users life and completely alter the way they perform tasks in their daily lives. This area of topic is difficult to understand thus further primary and secondary research will be conducted to overcome this. Dysgraphia affects a persons motor skills and Dyscalculia affects the unerstanding of numerals.

PRODUCT
There aren’t any products really in the market that ar designed to help with this key issue. From research it became evident that people wish to become more independent without becoming an ‘Anchor’ to helping persons. Where the time will ulitise the concept of staking numbers like a building. There currently are products in the market for this issue, however they feel disjointed from the users and this is where Beonav will aim to excel at.
BEONAV Beonav aims to focus on these aspects chosen where it is a watch that helps tell time more efficiently and this is meant with an easier navigation UI, that will help make the user ecperience more fluid

Beonav comes with an immersive user interface that will focus on providing a whole new user expereicne on telling time and navigating the user. The UI can be adjusted to the users needs, where there are a series of watches faces to pick from as well as picking day/night mode. The final form of the UI design was conceived through Guerilla testing. The UI will be explained in the upcoming pages.

Keeping with the time
Beonav’s main focus was helping users who suffer from dyscalculia to read time correctly with ease using methods attained from insights gained from users through meeting with them. The main watch face which is displayed on the right utilises a clever method used by many people who suffer from dyscalculia to help ‘visualise’ time. It is an elegant, simple design which is created to be easy to understand and read. The face uses squares that fill up for every minute/ hour goes past, this is used to represent blocks filling up. The boxes that are highlighted in blue represent the time filling up. The watch is split into two sections, one for the hour and the other for the minutes. The 1st section consists of two squares and if both are left grey, then it represents ‘0’ and if the second squares goes to ‘3’ then it represents 3. Same goes for the other side. For instance the watch face shown on the right shows the time is 9:34am. Users can pick from 5 other watch faces which have all been picked out from different users through user testing. This method is certainly interesting, yet it seems to be effective amongst those who suffer from dyscalculia.

Navigation
Navigation. This was also an important area that was poorly revised for those who suffer from dysgraphia. To begin with, lets introduce ‘Eden’ our very own smart AI, users can have the privilege of conversing with Eden which is shown on the 1st watch face (on the top). The user can simply launch Eden and ask it for directions to their desired location. The design of this aspect has been kept the same as the rest of the UI for the watch piece, It simply shows you a live time compass pointing you to the right direction, this will then be met by an instruction. This was aimed to help users get to where they want to be without having to feel ‘Anchored’ to someone and this is what the watch will provide for the user; companion, friend a personal attachment. Another part of this section is shown on the right and that is, again utlising the ‘Time filling up like a bottle” as it does seem to very affective and praised by a few people. So the user wants to get to University from their accommodation and this will then set a timer on how long you have to get to your desired location and the time you have to get to your desired location. Every 1 minute that passes a block will be added. This feature will have a great impact on the users user journey.

Navigation
When going to your chosen destination for the first time, say you got a new job somewhere or just started at a new University, you will be going through different routes and finding which is best. Unfortunately, those with dysgraphia forget quite frequently and this poses issues. Beonav helps you with this, what Beonav does to help make your journey just that bit more fun. Through insights shared by users themselves, it was found that by looking at landmarks and seeing it everyday it enabled them to remember the route they usually take. Therefore, during your route ‘EDEN’ will give you a fun fact about a landmark as shown on the right. All the added features on the navigation will come as one and provide an immerse user experience, never seen before in a watch.
