The question starts from the blue pill and red pill, the choice given to you between pursuing the read world, or staying in the already perfect world. The choice between Ideal and Reality; Liberal and Labour; Yin and Yang; North Pole and South Pole; Blue and Red. The polar opposites are screaming to you, to pick a side.

14

The experiment is questioning the possibility of situating two extreme ideoligy existing in the same Architecture without blending into eachother, while both colours are able to stand in there own colour. By juxtaposing two extreme ideals, form and shape will be blened and twisted when the ideals getting closer.

Möbius, a thin strip that only has one side; representing the one sided viewpoint of an extremist, when two möbius collides, new area will be formed in the middle of the battlefield, the Green Zone within the Red and Blue. Mixture of viewpoint and opinions are always visible in communities, if two polarising colours or ideals is already exist in the architecture, would this placement create peace or more chaos? Would students in Primary school being taught of an ideal world or the real world? What pill would you pick?

Herein this document lies the chromotopic meanderings of Elizabeth Battiston, a.k.a., Liz. These artifacts document her level 06 architectural studio. Acting in the studio under RMIT secret code number: s3493676, she completed the ARM Studio “CHROMOPHOBIA” in Semester 02, in the year 2021 - a time of plague and lockdown. She expresses sincere thanks to the benevolent dictators: DYLAN LI, PETER BICKLE, JOSHUA MORRIN, MATT ALFRED & LEON KOUTOULAS. People are active every day, and the speed of these activities varies. Some people love exciting sports, some people like to read quietly, and some people like to go shopping and chat with friends. These activities all move at different speeds. Different activities need to occur in different places and spaces. However, in addition to functions that can define these spaces, how can we define spaces? How can I express movement in another way?

DESIGN PROPOSAL DIRGRAM Maybe color can help us. Color gives us not only the

teacher stays at the visual level, but also penetrates into our spiritual world. When you are exercising, communicating with people, or even sleeping, there is a color that can help or inspire your behavior. This project explored the concept of "color is decided by movement". Red is the color that stimulates and inspires people, and is more suitable for expressing fast and exciting sports. Blue is usually associated with quietness and depression, and is more suitable for slow and static actions. The colors of fast-to-slow movement are expressed through the gradient of the three primary colors of red, yellow and blue.

COLOURFUL LANGUAGE Throughout the semester, I’ve been pondering and experimenting on the relationship between colour and language. Language influences colour emotionally. It carries gradients of meaning and intensity both visually and verbally. Through a procedural process, I first superimposed the golden ratio model throughout the site, and developed it further through colourful language and colour associations for master planning, form making and materialising of the primary school. This is an opportunity to revive and recolour Reservoir in gradients - gradients of function, transition, privacy and programs. The architecture is colourful, and carries colourful language that may be offensive to some. It is unapologetic and carries the words of what colours could imply. Colours begin to blend into each other and permeate into each other, which influences the language and form of other surrounding buildings too. There is a sense of unity despite their differences. The fluidity of colour was translated into the ground floor, where the interior and exterior grounds are blurred, which encourages more outdoor learning through the flexibility and permeability of the walls. Red is loving and passionate. It at times comes across as aggressive and rude, but its purpose is to protect. Red does after all mean stop in the context of a traffic light. Through the rhythmic beams and poles, the red zone is bold in form. The question of what we associate as an innocent and mature red was in the back of my mind. The juxtaposition of the innocent glazed pink bricks and a Reservoir, suburban red bricks highlights the contrast and tension between innocence and maturity. Inside, it is seductive and playful. Some ancient languages didn’t have a word for blue, and Russian and Greek speakers have two different words for dark blue and light blue. I wonder if they perceive dark blue and light blue the way we perceive red and pink as separate colours. Isn’t pink a light red, just as dark blue a dark light blue? Cyan. We often associate cyan as a younger, or innocent blue green. There’s a quality of innocence and specificity to it that differs it to a sky blue or a lime green. Somehow, my first association to this colour are swimming pools. Gridded pool tiles as an exterior skin that wraps around and inside the architecture. The purple acts as a transition between the red, and functions to guide. Orange. It sits between yellow and red in the spectrum. It is a combination of the characteristics of a sunshine yellow and a chilli red. I imagined it to be energetic and dynamic. It jumps in delight, and does not sit still. Colour is, afterall, emotional and expressive, and speaks more than the words that I can say.

In my opinion, all thoughts related to color are subjective. People can influence others through their personal preference and ideas about color. Just as I connected the theme of the project with my favorite purple, and combined it with the site and buildings to expand the story content of the project. Purple is ancient, mysterious, rare, and unique, just as irreplaceable as every independent individual. Purple represents curiosity and the unknown. Staying curious and pursuing the unknown is the spirit that people need. In the project, I took the mixing of red and blue to produce purple as the starting point, and connected the fusion of colors with the function of the building, space, people's activity trajectory and time, and tried to create different unknown new spaces which I named them ‘purple spaces’ through the gradient of the color. More importantly, I think that space and color seem to be independent, but in fact they are continuous, interpenetrating and influencing each other.
