FROM MY EXPERIENCE
BACKGROUND
While I was travelling in 14 countries in Europe, always set the tent and slept in nature. At that time, because I did not enter charging camping sites, it was impossible to use electricity without generator. For the reason, we found that having a meal is inconvenient and it is dangerous to walk around the tent at night. After my collegue got hurt in the darkness without any lights, we decided to make the fire, but it was too dangrous for both people and the forest. As a result of my experience, I deciede to start the project in Domus Academy and used the new technology to creat innovative product for camper who may have similar experience.
These days camping is one of the most popular outdoor activity. However people frequently get hurt or lost where the tent is. It is because, owning individual electricity system, which can make the light, is difficult in an outdoor area. In order to deal with these problems, ‘Eternal light peg’ is designed.

Because tent pegs are hardly recognizable, people get hurt frequently
Application Pegs can be charged by itself, while they are being planted anywhere, if there is soil. By MFCs technology it generates itself and produces the electricity. Finally ‘Eternal light peg’ emit the light itself. Users pick some of charged pegs up and bring them to where they want to pitch a tent.

In addition, pegs can generate themsleves without any electricity system on the soil, people can use them by their needs. For example, Pegs can be the small light on the flower pot. Also, if people enjoy the gardening, they can hamer pegs wherever they want . Finally pegs provide beautiful atmosphere.

Although there is sufficient water in many countries, people living in some countries are still suffering from lack of quality water. Statistically, a number of people still die each year due to its poor quality which can cause serious diseases. This is due to the lack of water purifying systems providing fresh water to residents. This is an extremely serious situation, and with no electricity it is for this reason that the water is unsafe for human consumption. UNIVERSAL GUITAR DESIGN One Hand Guitar ; Guitar design for people having disability.
“ Disability, Alienation and Wound...”
The sufferings of the disabled are divided into physical pains and psychological distresses. The moments of getting hurts are derived from alienation from the society rather than suffering from daily life because of disability of the body. Unfriendly consciousness to the disabled that has been existed in the society yet isolates them more. The concept was to make the disabled sympathize and communicate with persons through materials by which all were able to match together, and the subject matter is ‘Music’.

Music is one of effective psychotherapy methods. Also, music works as an element by which all can match without boundaries. We intend to inspire the disabled so that they make moments of being able to match with others naturaly while playing the music directly. The reason of selecting ‘guitar’ is laid in a fact that it is recognized as the most usual instrument to the public. In order to make the disabled having physical penalty play the guitar skillfully without restrictions, different designs from general guitar structures were necessary. [ 2012. May / Team Project ]

In order to make performances available with one hand, the role of seizing the plate was substituted into pedaling method. Whenever pedaling, the chord is processed according to its programmed orders. It is OK to just hit strings by adjusting it to the designated chords with one hand.

ONE-Hand Guitar Concept summary
One-Hand Guitar is a solution that reorganizes the guitar so as to play it skillfully with one hand only. The disabled who can use one hand owing to physical disability are main users, and non-disabled persons are able to
treat the musical instrument easilly too. If stepping on the pedal instead of thrumming on the guitar strings, the setting cord is changed accordingly. It is OK to hit the guitar strings only with user’s one hand.
The disabled feeling the sense of alienation can associated with others easily through music, and those who contact the guitar first are able to enjoy it without learning separately..

The guitar is a musical instrument that both hands shall be used for doing performances. In order that the disabled who have restrictions on using one arm (wrist or finger) can play the guitar, ways of replacing roles of unused hand have to be found out. As there is not the plate, string vibrations that make same sounds usually output sounds through the speaker after being changed into previously setting sounds through unique processes.

THE DESIGN FOR NEW SILVER-GENERATION Academic-industrial collaboration between Inje Univ. and Dongsung industry.
These days, doing exercise in a gym is the most popular activity for health. However, most weight machines look blunt also most of them are designed for younger generation.
The design started from these problem. The main target of user is the upper-middle classes elderly who can spend time and money to care their health in a gym. To admit the requirement of client, I used lime color to point out the design better and hide needless parts such as wires to make the design simple. [ 2009. Aug / Team Project ]
Turning to the concept and how it works, firstly, the exercise tool operates by air. Because of that, there is no energy consumption except the screen. Thus, I can say that the design is eco friendly.
In addition, the machine plays the role as a rehabilitation by air. Second, it is designed for the silver. It means that all generation can use it easier than normal weight machine.

Additionally, there is touch pad monitor which can manage individual information. For example, before using the machine, people check their body conditions first such as weight, height and muscular strength. After this they use their card and ,finally, weight machine will adjust suitable condition for them automatically as if all users can train themselves with their personal trainers.
Finally, the product is tested with the elderly, the disabled and personal trainer as an usability research before releasing the design in a real market.

As a result of the project, I studied regarding manufacturing process and appropriate materials and leant the way of thinking of design to be manufactured in practice.

SMALL ADDITION TURNS TO HUGE HELP Strap tumbler; Tumbler design for everyone.
These days, many people are carrying portable tumblers. However, there is no tumblers for seniors or the disabled. If someone has not enough power or energy, the user might have lots of inconveniences using the handless cup. Due to their weak grip power, they often drop their cup to the floor. For the reason, strap tumbler is designed. Through adding just one element : strap, people who are even weak to grip the tumbler can use it and drink easily. In addition, throughout the strap, the tumbler can be hanged on anywhere, if there is a hanger. In terms of design visually, the strap can provide a number of selection to satisfy customers through various colors and patterns. Although the idea is small, it brings optimistic advantages for many kinds of people such as the elderly, the disabled and even kids who have too small hands to grip a tumbler. [ 2012. Because people such as the disabled and the elderly are extremely weak to even grip a cup, they have to be helped by someone else to drink or use a holder and straw. I believe it is still inconvenient and looks inhumane.

Even if the addition is just one, it can bring huge changes. For example, strap will be the main characteristic point for the tumbler with various colors or patterns then it provides a number of choices for customers.
With this, we can expect stimulating consumption and it ,finally, brings positive-economic benefits. This is not only convenient design for the people who are out of sorts but also stylish for everyone.

THE ADVANCED CONCEPT OF A TRAIN The train design providing both a transportation and an accomodation.
Escaping from traffic jam and travelling beautiful mountains and oceans through a train is one of the best hope of modern people. However, a trip by train has a limitation. For example, even if we arrive at the destination, we have to find an accommodation out. In this case, without personal vehicle, it is hard to find easily then we will get tired even before enjoying the travelling.
In addition, camping is the most popular leisure activity on a holiday. For these two reasons, the camping train is designed to satisfy both needs. The main concept of the camping train is that people can use one of the train cabin as a their individual camping car. With this concept, we do not have to worry about traffic jam from the start to the end. Additionally, there is no inconvenience by a narrow seat on the train, because the camping train provides personal space. [ 2009. Feb / Team Project ]

When travellers arrive at their destination, the train stops and travellers’ train cabin is divided from the main body of train. Then it goes to camping site which is specially prepared for the camping train users.
As a result of this service, we do not have to own and drive our camping car and caravan to camp. Also, people may not feel tiredness and will enjoy convenient and comfortable journey, because there is no driving time at all. Of course, there is no car accident.
In conclusion, people can enjoy their travelling faster and more convenient than ever. Plus, the camping train brings optimistic effect for our planet, because it is one of public transportation which effects relatively less harmful impact for our environment.

SMALL ADDITION BUT STRONG FUNTION Accurate Scissors ; Easy, Accurate and Fast scissors.
Often, people scrap newspapers, magazines or photos to keep the impressive moments or precious memories. However, it is difficult to cut the papers straightly by scissors without any tools such as a ruler and a paper cutter. If the paper is extremely thin and flexible, it is even hard to cut straightly. For the reason, the ‘accurate scissors’ is designed.
In order to satisfy these needs for users, the guide stick is added and it provides some effective functions.

‘Syringe USB’ is designed by advanced concept which can transfer computer files between two USBs as if injection and extracting by syringe without any computer connection. With the touch screen, people can easily search the files that they want. After that, they can transfer them by touching and dragging to any USB sticks. In addition, depending on the direction to drag, people can transfer the file like injecting and extraction of syringe. Also, the GUI such as injector and red cross provides visual information effectively and ,finally, it gives intuitive usability for users.
For the reason, users will experience the convenience, because they can share their files anywhere.
Last but not least, The design has vaccine function. Because of the reason, people do not have to worry about viral infection anymore while they are sharing files. ‘Syringe USB’ automatically check files in the other USB and cure a computer virus. [ 2012. Apr / Team Project ]
“What if, there is no computer?” USB is the most prevalent device to transfer files. However, there have to be the middle medium like desktop and laptop to give and take file. It means That it is impossible to share the file, if there is no computer, In order to figure out the problem and provide advanced function, the ‘Syringe USB’ is designed.

THE WAY TO ENJOY YOUR LIFE HEALTHIER Air purifier robot + flower pot.
AP pot is personal air purifier robot purifying air with plant. As we know, plant such as foliage plant purifies harmful components in air to clean one. Also, it eliminates electromagnetic waves. As result of combination between these plant and air purifier robot, users can expect much better and effective air purification than usual products.
The robot displays how air is good or bad with two colors. For example, if there is bad air condition like dioxin, formaldehyde or too much electromagnetic waves the light will be turned on red and purifies them straight away. After that, the color will be blue when there is no harmful things on the air. Last but not least, the air purifier robot has characteristic movement. NEW AND BETTER LIFESTYLE Self - supporting cooking pot design.
Often, we face embarrassing situation that the table is burned in a circle by hot cooking pot. It is because, people, sometimes, place boiling cooking pot or pan on the table without a pot stand. As a result of this, people will feel so bad just before meal time which suppose to be happy.
In this case, there is no problem, if we prepare a pot stand. However it is difficult to bring both a boiling pot and a pot stand together, because it is easy to burn ourselves to move hot saucepan. In addition, if you forget to bring a pot stand before carrying a pot, you have to call anyone else to place it first. I believe that many people have this kind of experience and it is bothering. However, with this innovative cooking pot, it is no longer problem for us. Because the pot has two legs which can support itself and ,finally, be placed on the table without [ 2011. In conclusion, not only the innovative function but sentimental shape of the top of the pot and color will provide aesthetic appreciation, convenience and safety for us.
When people cook with the pot, it plays the roles as a normal cooking pot. After cooking, all we have to do is bringing the pot to where we want to place and push the buttons on the two handles. Then legs will appear and be fixed safely and people just need to place the pot on the kitchen table.

The foldable cylinder creats a space for the sound to resonate. Also, when the cylinder is folded as flat, it’s easy way to carry and if you want a full volume just pull up. For the last, variation of lighting colors creates new atmosphere to the space.
Because the speaker can be folded, it is easy to carry and user can enjoy deeper and clearer sound anywhere. Also, with the necklace, the mp3 will be the perfect fassion accesory.
Since mp3 became smaller the function of speaker reduced or dissappeared. Small speakers for mp3 are in market but low quality of sound can ruin the beauty of music. When there’re multiple number of the products, it’s possible to communicate by bluetooth so it is able to sharing information and play each others music. When the sound bounce the surface more, the sound get louder and clearer. It can be the function as a equilizer by pulling up and pushing down. By bluetooth, it plays music as a one big stereo.

The work is proceeded by injection molding method which is the most general and important manufacturing way. There are two parts made by injection molding without anymore manufacturing procedure except assembly. The first one is pressure rubber which is designed for user’s toes to hold. Secondly, bottom of the slipper is produced by injection molding. Turning to the main concept of the product, I realized that many people do not wear bathroom slipper properly and they just lay their foot on the bathroom slipper and just drag them. Even I use bathroom slippers like that. As a result of the insight from that kind of usability, pressure rubber as a toes’ holder is designed to wear and put off easily likewise filp-flop.

In addition, many people would have experience that their socks are wet because of wet slippers. I believe that the situation is substantially bothering, thus I added the pressure rubber in order to solve the problem. With the pressure rubber, users can attach the slipper on the wall in bathroom wall easily then the slipper will be dried naturally and quickly. Because of the usability; attaching the object on the wall, I designed the slipper as a spider shape. [ 2009. Nov / Individual Project ] The task is proceeded to understand press mothods. From injection molding and extrusion to pressworks, I used as many as manufacturing ways I have learnt for the product. The product is audio player. To use it, users move the CD reader to the CD they want to listen. With this, users can use the product as if they are deejaying. Because of the reason, interaction between user and device is formed. -By using polycarbonate, it is easier to manufacture a curved surface than using glass. -After extrusion with aluminium, the aluminium is anodized to increase the strength and even decorative look, then it is drilled a hole by drilling method to join with a screw. -In order to strengthen thin plastic, ribs are added. So we can expect the solidity even with thin and simple shape. -For smooth injection molding, a gradient is contemplated. -After pressing manufacturing on the steel badge to carve the logo, it is polished by diamond cutting method. -With the electro forming, speaker’s cover is manufactured. -After injection molding with rubber and ABS plastic, the plastic buttons are painted.

The logo is symbolized from a hankberry which is the main symbol of Buk-gu in Busan. In addition, the stamp ,which is placed jsut beside the main logo and read ‘Buk-gu’ , emphasize the identity of self-support center in Buk-gu. Through out these characteristics, people could read the words used for logo, Hamggae Green Buk-gu, naturally.
UNITED BRAND - IDENTITY DESIGN Packaged design for self-supporting center.
The project is requested from the city hall of Busan in order to create united brand of three self support centers, Hwajung social welfare center, Buk-gu self-support center and Buk-gu ‘hope’ self-support center, and packages for the products they produce. As a result of researches from three centers, they all produce environmentally friendly products and emphasized that they are making them. Also, the symbol of Buk-gu is eco friendly. For these reasons, we considered the eco style most to shape the logo.
Secondly to name of the brand, we decided to use the word ‘Hamggae (means ‘together’ in Korean) and green (means green in English literally and also it means ‘draw the future’ in Korean) Finally, in order to satisfy the clients, products such as eco friendly soaps and rice cakes, we used appropriate color for them. Consequently all clients are substantially satisfied. [ 2011. Sep / Team Project ]
Additionally, we considered and used the green color to give a environmentally friendly atmosphere. It is because all products in the self-support center is made with eco friendly materials.

WORKSHOP WITH DOMUS ACADEMY Studying Sustainability
Workshop with Domus Academy in Milan The event was performed by 4th Korea design membership and professor Niko in Domus academy together. I believe that sustainability is one of the significant issue we faced.
In addition, designers should consider it in a moral way of thinking. It is because, nowadays, not only customers but even companies think that selfless designs are more valuable things than only commercialization and I strongly agree with this. [ 2011. Nov / Team Project ]
For the reason, I tried to understand about sustainable technologies and method as much as I can. Finally I got this precious chance and was so happy with the project. Throughout the workshop, I experienced a tremendous amount of information regarding sustainable designs operating by sustainable energy and also things I’d never known. For example a package design which can be loaded as many as possible is also sustainable, because it saves fossil fuel with reducing the number of shipping. In the middle of workship, I could have a super chance to talk with Francisco during his lecturing about sustainability and I realized the fact in terms of design in today’s society. Although he said to me that it is impossible to work for only 90% people ,who are suffering from poverty, disease and violence. However he mentioned to not to lose my purpose as well.
64 End of the time in Domus academy, I finished my sustainable camping peg design working by MFCs; Microbial fuel cells, technology. With this, I was very pleased. Except workshop, I could experience the top class lights, furnitures and et cetera designs in Italy. Also, through the historic buildings, museums and pictures, I achieved a great inspiration.

NANCHANG STREET REDESIGN PROJECT Packaged design for self-supporting center.
Problem definition To redesign the street, our team conducted researching the street first. And we found out some of main problems. First. the street is almost empty at day time Second. the street is lack of public space. To get some rest, people should pay for drinks or food and can rest. In addition, the river is isolated, even if it is really close to the street and so beautiful.
In China, I received two missions for the project. The first one was that I presented regarding graduation works in Inje university to Jiangnan university as a delegate. Secondly, students from Korea and China progressed the workshop in order to redesign Nanchang street which is traditional and historic space for citizens there. As a result of the project, I could learn a number of design elements throughout analysis the space, environmental design and another way of thinking from Chinese students. Also, as the first project with foreign designers for me, it was so valuable to communicate with them and I was very pleased with satisfying result at the same time. [ 2011. Jul / Team Project ]
For the last, people are so noisy as opposed to day time. Additionally, in the evening, the place looks congested by many bars and LEDs. For the reason, the traditional lifestyle and beauty are disappearing.

Because there are two kinds of atmosphere which coexist together at day and night time with traditional and morden style, I named the street as ‘Two Faces’
Logo The reason why we designed the logo like this is as our concept is ‘Two faces’, we combined two main characteristics. In the logo, people may find Chinese letters and . Also, T and F are used for the design. Finally, Both elements express the logo as if it looks like human’s face

Final plan and top view Though using trees and the pergola, the street and the river are connected naturally and they provide resting place eventually. With that trees and stones beside the water clay tile, people can ,easily get a rest, without payment for somewhere such as coffee shop.
Overall With the oergola and trees, people can enjoy both advantages ,Shadow at hot day time and lights which are shiny like the star at night. As a result of the design, residents can get a rest under the convenient atmosphere.
Through a number of windows we intended, People and a river are connected. Thus the beautiful river plays the role effectively.

Starting my own business Since I started studying about design, I have dreamed about having my own design - coffee shop. In 2010, I decided to build my dream and found one business partner fortunately. Finally we begun to make the plan and construct from the floor to celling myself for 6 months.

In conclusion, the profit is getting better and better these days and a number of customers are satisfied with the cozy place and taste of menus. Finally, they say to me that the shop is so lovely and turns to regular customers. Thus I can say that ‘Im’ happy. [ 2012. Apr / Team Project ]

The name of the shop is ‘Im’ and I believe, it is limitless, because after the name, anything can be placed. For instance, ‘Im’ burger, I’m designer and I’m coffee are possible so that I thought, a number of various names and identities are feasible, if the business is successful.

EXHIBITION FOR SEOUL DESIGN FESTIVAL Up-cycling steel project in COEX
The project was my first work making steel product in practice. Because of the reason, it is difficult to make the steel product in person, but I have learnt a number of practical experience simultaneously such as manufacturing and steel materials by visiting the steel wovrkshop.
Since I almost arrived at man-hod, my xylophone has never been being played. I believed that not only I but many people treat xylophone like I do. However, for the project, I created a new art work with xylophone panels to make its beautiful sound again.
In order to express the melody, I used a copper plate and shaped it as a wave form and xylophone panels follow the wave shape. Finally they make the harmony as if they are showing the melody. [ 2011. Nov / Individual Project ]

When I was in third grade, the project between KIA motors and my university begun and I attended as a senior member in the student union called Carrozzeria to create a smart car accessories. [ 2008. Jun / Team Project ]
Cooling and Heating cup holder The first design is the cup holder which can manage the temperature of the beverage in the car. With the cup holder, a driver or people in the car can enjoy beverages as their preferable temperature. The color of the holder gives a feedback for people easily and the shape is motivated the main cars of KIA motors at that time.
Smart key design ‘HOO’ ; Alcohol breath testing instrument
Secondly, a smart key; saves drivers is designed. Since the car is invented, the number of people have been dying consistently and increasingly. The main reason is drunk drivers so I pointed the problem out. To start the engine, the driver have to blow his/her breath to the smart key and the car will be possible ti drive, if the people who are able to drive. Additionally, on the smart key, there is a projector function. With this, the smart key plays the role as a navigation and DMB. To sum up, it brings both a safty and entertainment for drivers.

UNIST CREATIVE DESIGN CONTEST Study about Sustainability
A competitive exhibition is held in Ulsan science technology university. For the event I was selected and attended. In order to achieve the best position if the competition, a number of elite students in Korea attended as well. Because I was an only student in a relatively unknown university, I was exited and worried simultaneously. The event progresses for two days and ,finally, our team reached satisfying output. The main concept of ours was producing energy from a noisy which is a negative element by using a new material called graphene. Turning to the main concept, In the stadium where people shout for encouraging their team. Finally the energy from people turns to public lights around the stadium. With the concept, we can expect the positive result from the negative element. It was the our final idea and we continued it to achieve patent . Finally, we changed the concept a little to demonstrates how much energy can be produced by a display from a noisy as an educational purpose and eventually we made it.

In today’s business field, there is no more the word ‘design management’. It is because, the way of thinking in terms of design is the matter of course to start business. However there are a tremendous amount of people ,still, cannot afford to spend money for design elements such as BI, interior or even sign of their shops, since it is expensive to request for them. For the reason, I tried to help them what I have been specializing and ,consequently, it brings optimistic result for them and I [ 2009~2012 / Individual Project ] was worthwhile as well.

For the project, I undertook every visual works from a poster to a leaflet. The main concept of the presentation was ‘Your story beating the heart’. For the main concept, I designed the poster like this; righthand side. In order to express ‘youth, heart beating and memorable stories’.
