After handling light and space during my bachelor in Toulouse, I left France for Vietnam in 2013 in order to join the architecture & landscape master (FAP) in Hanoi Architectural University. That year where I’ve confronted my western culture and discovered the intensity of the vietnam’s capital city was a revealed passion and I also joined France Vietnam Architecture for a 4 month internship. Combining education, personal exploration and professional experience in Hanoi was a powerfull challenge that has strongly shaped the architect I am today. Back in France in 2014, I’ve worked on contemporary urban productions and sustainable city perspectives. I’ve therefore oriented my master thesis on how to reform and transform business parks by urban intensification, completed with honors in July 2016 and now published on several web platforms such as Atlas of places. In addition I’ve gained work experience at Mars Architectes during a 10 month internship in Paris, working on several projects and phases, associated with firms like Ateliers Jean Nouvel, Valode & Pistre and 3XN. I got to design housing and offices projects for competitions, as well as draft plans for building permit or detail design phases. Now that I am an architect, I am back in Hanoï since September and currently working at Pho Duc Tung’s urban planning office on several projects, from the renewal of Hanoi University of Commerce to the urban development of Nha Trang. But I want to explore new architectural opportunities and I am looking forward to join the next conception team that will trust me. Therefore I am willing to be part of your office in Hanoi, in order to challenge myself on new projects and as a young architect to grow in a renowned company. I will be available from the 2nd January, you can find attached my CV and portfolio but don’t hesitate to contact me if you need further informations.

Yours faithfully,

Arnaud Jouanchicot

COSMONOSTRO Master Thesis - Urban development

Space is ours ! Cosmonostro explores business park’s evolution capacities and space resources. Those commercial zones, often discredited by urban studies, are the future or at least the present of obsolete models that need to be reinvented. Stuck between parkings, mono-functionality and abandoned spaces, the project inputs a new order in the catchment area by redistributing land plots and constructing interstices. We all know carpooling, flatsharing and coworking, here comes Cosmonostro : the space sharing - a soft urban production that layers buildings time after time and respects the existing context in order to enhance it.

Intensify life and activities. Densify the city then, but most of all life. Enrich, diversify and compose with. Assuming business park as a convergence, a meeting point, and build around that modern centrality to benefit from its key position between city center and suburbia. A new urban system will grow, based on a sedimentation process that insures continuity between the past and the future of the city. Doing so we combine warehouses with smaller shops, collective dwellings, private houses, sports equipments, squares and greenhouses, in order to get a maximum diversity of uses. Thus we give city production’s keys to the citizens and allow them to take the power back on places.

10

11

12

Build the interstice. Business parks feature a lot of rich spaces. Certainly unconventional, but offering interactivity and adaptability. The unqualified residues suggest that we invest them. They have the ability to host new constructions in order to build the contemporary metropolis that everyone is speaking : dense, green and complementary.

URBAN SALUTE Bachelor 3 - Retirement home Associate : Thomas Combes

Invert the question. How does a city need its elders? Our strategy is to implant the project in the heart of Graulhet’s town center, a city wrecked by the fall of leather industry and urban exodus. Therefore we infuse interactions between outdated shops, senior citizens, visitors and medical staff. It’s a win win as for the city council as for the retirement home. Composed of two perforated blocks connected with a glassed box, the building settles along the central square facing row houses and shops. Thus, it qualifies the square that has too much parkings by tightening the space and interacts directly with inhabitants and tradespeople.

14

15

Endless course. We tought space as an infinite loop to answer Alzheimer patients and offer a stable and reassuring environment. Therefore the east block is perforated with a patio that ensures continuous circulation. Also, the first levels are dedicated to social and medical program to strengthen interactions with the city, as the private rooms are elevated to offer a splendid view on surronding trees and the Tarn territory.

Housing grid. How to conciliate housing estate’s dreams, rooted in collective psyche, with density and intensity? In a suburban dormitory town, the project tries to balance collective areas with private gardens by working on a grid that offers a great answer to the dense individual housing problematic. Thus, the project becomes a perfect alternation of private moments putted through public alleys and inhabited bridges.

18

19

Duality Each stud is composed of two dwellings : a family house on the first and second floor, sunbathed by a south garden and freshened by a north patio, and a smaller apartment on the second and third floor, associated with a roof terrace opened on the surrounding landscape.

FABLAB FESTIVAL Competition winner / Project built Associate : Tournesol Collective

Plug it ! For the Fablab Festival 2015 in Toulouse, we were commissioned by Artilect and ENSA Toulouse to make a pavillion of digital and parametric architecture. Wanting to go further than a simple place of exhibition, we conceived an evolutive and participative structure that shows the true essence of the fablab concept : collaboration and making together. Thus, every festival visitor was given a stick that he would pluged into the paviilion in order to design a collective pattern.

Toilets for all ! Found in a colorful and history-rich region of Ashanti (Ghana), this project would like to help solve basic requirements for proper education in Abetenim Campus. We have hence chosen to design sanitary facilities that address comfort, water reuse and compost production, for a total budget of 4500$. This project aims to be respectful of its environment and the traditions of Abetenim so we propose a single shaped building that offers services for both men and women while respecting intimacy. This allows for simpler plumbing and ensures better identification at an urban scale.

Show’s over. Pyramiden, located in the arctic’s archipel of Svalbard, find its existence and identity threw the quest of its environment and nearby landscape. A modern tale of the human adventure, an ode to self-made cities built on nothing and the New World’s conquest. Today, the deserted ghost town stand as a memorial of a bygone age. We suggest to reveal the city in a representation of itslef, an image underlined by the natural elements, sealing Pyramiden in an eternal geometric picture.
