A collaboration of young people living in Bristol
Thinking about the future, our concerns and speculations
Realising the importance of conversation, wanting to create spaces to be able to gather and discuss
Using aspects of our own lives to tell stories and start conversations that can bridge the gap between the future and the present
This is a collection of our work, to remind the future of the things we don’t want it to forget and giving them spaces to gather and reflect

FUTURE GATHERING SPACE DESIGN
WE USE OUR HANDS TO GREET EACH OTHER, TO APPLAUD EACH OTHER, TO SHOW WE LOVE OR HATE EACH OTHER. WE USE THEM TO TIE KNOTS AND COOK DINNERS AND PLAY GUITARS. THEY BECOME WRINKLES AND COLOURED, OLD AND STIFF, THE SIMPLEST PRESENTATION OF THE STORIES OF OUR LIVES. WE DRAW THEM BECAUSE HANDS WILL ALWAYS TELL US JUST AS MUCH ABOUT A PERSON AS THEIR MOUTHS CAN.

FUTURE GATHERING SPACE DESIGN
WE WILL ALWAYS LOOK AT THE CLOUDS
Imagine feeling
lost
and
isolated
Bound by a label everyone seems to see But seeing nothing yourself And then at last you see a light
It burns
bright,
It draws you in And at last you find
release
Finally free to really look at life and see
This was what it was like for me I finally met a girl just like me She was
confident
and smart
I knew she would
And another
light
succeed
appeared Another girl like me
She taught me how to cope And she taught me to be
Like a
butterfly
free
breaking free
I found the
confidence
to just be me
And at last I met others just like me We laughed, we smiled and I felt free
We were all born
autistic
But we were also all born free Maybe you can
listen
to me
This publication chronicles the work of the Young Arnolfini collective between February and August 2017. During this time they talked about the future they want to see for Bristol, the conversation sprawled and meadered and collected new things as it went. The questions and experiments in this book are still live.
Young Arnolfini would like to thank the following people for their support in making our publication: Edson Burton, Basim Magdy, Bryony Gillard, Adri Bof and Social Skills Agency, Dermot O’Regan and Grow Bristol, Sarah Wilton, Mark Harris, Amak Mahmoodian and the team at Arnolfini.
