SIDEWALK PLAZA: The Open Space Strategy is not about a singular pocket park, but an urban system that can knit together the diverse fabric of the community. Sidewalk Plazas can be a vehicle through which neighbors can become acquainted, children can congregate, business owners can engage a wide public, and the street can become a nexus -- not a divider for the community.

It is an open area where market stalls are traditionally set out for trading,

Kiosk Case Study Market Hill, Cambridge The square has remained the vibrant heart of the city for at least 800 years. The market has been at the center of city life for centuries, though it did not adopt its current spacious form until the mid C19 when a block of houses that stood in the middle of the current market place was destroyed by a great fire in 1849 and a larger market was created and a central fountain installed. The name Market Hill comes from the old use of the word 'hill' to mean a meeting place - not raised ground! Today the market continues to be the thriving heart of the day-time city

2. Inner city regeneration - Shivajinagar Examine issues of inner city regeneration and interventions, to achieve workable economic and environmental regeneration. to diagnose implications of suggested interventions on the larger urban fabric, to re-examine values in terms of social, physical, and the progressive nature of change. Shivajinagar, one of the most bustling areas located in the central bangalore is primarily a commercial hub. It is a thriving ‘native’ bazaar developed along with associated establishments like churches, temples, mosques, cinemas, schools and hospitals. Shivajinagar or blackpally was a barren region when kempegowda founded modern bangalore. Though much has altered now, the remnants of the past are still visible. This is also a place where many religions co-existed i.e hindus, muslims and christians. The study was carried out by group with cognitive mapping process major and minor Paths, Node, Landmarks, Districts, Edge, and other layers of views and vistas, connetivity, building typology, demography, natural settings, Economy, Building prototype, Social Infrastructure, Solid Waste Management.

Existing Landuse Public & Semipublic Commerical Mixed Used Residential Open Space

The points noted from the study were Existing Land use planning showed open space are less than the proposed Land use. Street typology showed Sub-arterial road at peripheral of site leading to disperse the Bus movement limited with in the site. Most of the Public semi public building are Ground+1&2 from important streets shows distinctive location from public and semipublic space and commercial space solid waste management is very essentials in study area as most open space are generally used as dump yards. The above points indicate issues of Social Infrastructure

3. Safe Environment in Public Realm Understanding with the Safe city concept selecting one aspect concerns of crime, a safety of a Residential neighborhood. Aims to contribute to safe environment in Public realm.

Safety and security are essential to successful, wellbeing communities. Not only are such places welldesigned, attractive environments to live and work in, but they are also places where freedom from crime, and from the fear of crime, improves the quality of life. The visionary Jane Jacobs when her insights were written in her book The Death and Life of Great American Cities. Many people quote her phrase “there must be eyes on the street” to emphasize the relationship between urban safety and design. In this sense, her cognition about the topic led her to provide recommendations based on close observation of public spaces. These consist of bars and restaurants “sprinkled along the sidewalks”, street vendor, and pedestrians. Also she recommended the installation of bright street light to “augment every pair of eyes” exposing safety on the streets with a resulting much more movement in the streets by the pedestrians, making a successful city.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT “Human needs achieved in man-made built environment which is pleasant to use and feel comfortable in human perspective is called safe environment.” Urban spaces, beside their tangible social, cultural and economic usages, would be useless without the active presence of people. Best urban environments are those which allow social presence while feeling safe, comfortable, enjoyed by citizens. Accordingly Maslow puts social connections and belonging in the third place of his notorious hierarchy of human needs, just after the need for safety. (john lang 2010)
