Centennial Has Lots To Celebrate

Caitlin Corkum Community Schools/PALS Coordinator-Centennial School PALS Program Assistant Centennial School didn’t shut down for the summer; our students were hopping from one activity to another! Twenty-two students kicked off the summer with a week of camp at Camp Brookwood. They may have come back bitten alive, but they had a ball! Then we sent students to Camp Glenburn for a week. They started the week off with a bang, literally (there was a thunderstorm) but came back full of stories of the awesome stuff they did. The school also ran a summer camp. The students learned all about the port and tugboats. They had two fun packed days touring a cruise ship and watching a tug boat water show - it was a blast! We cannot celebrate our awesome summer though without thanking our many partners that made this possible. You guys are fantastic and your generosity made for one memorable summer!

Celebrating Our Community Nurse By Krista Turnbull, Community Schools Coordinator St. Patrick’s School. On October 3 we celebrated our very own community health nurse, Jill Roberts, as she and 28 other folks from Saint John and surrounding areas were recognized as wellness champions in their community. Jill is a constant support at St. Patrick's School and provides ongoing guidance to staff and students in the many programs in which she is involved. We are so very lucky to have her at the Marketplace Wellness Centre every day now and excited to have her on board with the new Fit & Fun For Girls program at St. Pat's this year. Congratulations from all of us at St. Pat's! Jill ... you most definitely are a wellness champion for us all.

By Heather MacDonald Thandi's is a proud supporter of the Around the Block newspaper. We are a family owned business in uptown Saint John. Holly and Kenny Singh have many years of restaurant experience in and around the greater Saint John area. Thandi’s opened their doors at 33 Canterbury in May of 2006. The original building was constructed in 1878 after the Great Saint John Fire. In its early days it housed a printing press, namely, Lingley Printing. We recognize the importance of partnering with Saint John Inner City Schools and supporting the youth development. We are happy to be part of the Lunch Connection, serving up to 500 kids, hot, nutritious lunches.

By Juanita Black, Coordinator, Around The Block, Phone: 647-4850. Email: sjcommunitynewspaper@gmail.com As we celebrate Around The Block’s 5th Anniversary, let’s think back to the beginning. This paper started as a dream of then Vibrant Communities Coordinator Wendy MacDermott. We were hearing that the only time you read about our 5 priority neighbourhoods was when there were negative things to report. What about all the community celebrations and cooperation between each other, the good news events? Well, after 6 months of meetings between the communities, and many non-profit groups, a paper with no name was delivered on October 2008. We asked the readers to pick a name and after 56 names were submitted, our good news paper had a name “Around The Block”. We have grown for 8 pages and 6000 copies to 16 pages and 9000 free copies bi-monthly. I take pride as Coordinator in every person who has contributed to this paper over five years. The staff members from the communities that fill their individual pages, the non profit groups who time and time again let us know of the programs they offer to everyone, the proof readers who review each and every story that is sent in and the delivery staff who delivery 9000 copies. I have talked to many groups about the pride residents feel in having seen a story or picture they have sent to be published and I thought I could answer any question about Around The Block, but recently I was asked how many copies are in circulation from day one. I hesitated, I did not know. But that evening after adding up the numbers, I was pleasantly surprised with the number. As of the end of issue 30 we have printed 255,000 copies of Around The Block. I think the numbers are important, it helps our advertisers know they are reaching clients, and it helps the communities to continue to spread the good news stories, the reason it all started in the first place. As Around The Block has grown, so have I, and I could not of done it without the support of Vibrant Communities staff, past and present, the City of Saint John for funding and the Human Development Council where Around The Block is designed. Hopefully, we can continue to Celebrate the good news stories for awhile. Page 1

By Scott Crawford Since the North End Community Centre was renamed, a lot of people have been asking who Nick Nicolle was. We all must remember this man and his accomplishments. Nick was the first Director of Recreation for the Amalgamated City of Saint John in 1967. He would fit in well today as he believed in investing in neighbourhoods. During his time as Director, Community Centres as well as parks and rinks were constructed in all areas of the city. One of those was the North End Centre which was built in 1979. Nick was also a star athlete and is in the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame. He's remembered as a family man and church member. Nick's achievements have meant a great deal to generations of Saint John

One Woman’s Journey By Susan Barriault I would like to give you an introduction to the re-opening of the ONE Woman’s Journey. It is about dealing with womens’ issues which includes health, physical and mental, as well as self-wellbeing. We get together to enjoy each other’s company and meeting new people. We learn such things as how to protect your family in different forms and how to protect yourself on the internet. We are having outings such as rock climbing and other events. We will also have crafts and hobbies including gardening and games. I would like to invite the women of the Old North End to come and become part of our family.

RiverCross Mission The RiverCross Mission is open on Main Street. The building looks familiar. Main Street Baptist Church is now called RiverCross Church and is on Forbes Drive. This opens up plenty of space at the old church building to increase programs in the Old North End. The people in the building look familiar, too. You can still find Pastor John Knight at the RiverCross Mission. Plenty happens at the RiverCross Mission. Hope Mission is from 9 am – 1 pm every Tue and Fri. The North End Food Bank is open on Tue from 10 am – 1 pm. ONE Change Food Purchasing Club pickups are every third Fri of the month from 1 pm – 3 pm. And more things are coming soon! Deloitte Has Big Impact On Community Garden

By Mary Mackinnon Every once in a while we have the opportunity in life to cross paths with someone who has that certain something. She is not a famous superstar but being around her is inspiring. She has something special! She swoops in quietly, identifies a need, and then rolls her sleeves up and does whatever it takes to fill that need.

A team of employees from Deloitte made great improvements to the South End Community Garden as part of their Impact Day activities Oct. 4th. They arrived at Rainbow Park first thing in the morning. By the end of the day they had constructed compost bins, a ramp for the shed, and cleared and tilled the entire garden. They also stained picnic tables in the park and did work on the future site of the Rainbow Park Memorial Garden.

In her wake, she leaves dozens of children with tears as they know she rose in the dark hours to create a gourmet breakfast and lunch especially for them, and she serves it to them with her million dollar smile.

Impact Day is Deloitte’s annual day of volunteer service. Employees across Canada take part in projects that help local communities. Check out Deloitte Canada’s Facebook page to learn more about this year’s activities in Saint John and across the country.

Learn and Go “The Butt Stops Here” Joan and Sarah started out on a journey last year to improve their neighbourhood. They were`tired of seeing cigarette butts everywhere.

They identified the problem and came up with a solution. Metal ashtrays attached to poles!! Several ashtrays can now be found around the bus stops, in front of the market and elsewhere uptown.

Our Wellness Clinics are going strong. Flu shots will also be available. Remember the third Tuesday of the month! Mark Nov 19 and Dec 17 on your calendars from 1:30 - 4:00pm. Sheree from the VON will be on duty.

Aiden’s Story

By Rebecca Mason This is a follow up on the progress for the purchase of a wheelchair equipped vehicle for my son Aiden. I had a lengthy process but with all the hard work from Duncan at Downey Ford and Ashley from Malley Industry’s, along with all the donations and money Aiden and Duncan from Downey Ford raised from my auction and with Tracy, Aiden’s occupational therapist, WE DID IT!! Aiden could not be happier. The people at Downey Ford surprised Aiden and me with our new vehicle on August 23. Aiden now enjoys his drives in safety and comfort. Aiden and I would like to thank everyone who helped us when it was needed.

Local Wellness Champions Recognized

The Fundy Wellness Network partnered recently with the Grand Bay –Westfield `in motion` committee to host an evening of celebration on Thursday, October 3rd at the Carleton Community Centre. Twenty eight wellness champions were honoured and received certificates of appreciation, as well as a gift of original artwork, by local artist Fabiola Martinez Rodriguez. The champions and their guests were thrilled to welcome world renowned community activist, Jim Diers, who delivered an inspiring keynote speech. He encouraged the champions to continue in their work, as they go above and beyond to promote the many aspects of wellness. Congratulations to the recipients and keep up the great work that you do!

A Community That Cares Lower West Saint John is a Community that cares. Take a stroll around Lower West Saint John and you will notice Community pride is showing and growing stronger every day. Partnerships between the residents, the city, the province, local businesses and community agencies are contributing to many positive changes in the neighborhood. The area around the Carleton Community Centre is alive with activity, including the construction of the new Community Garden, expansion of the playground, Skateboard Park and new Volleyball courts. Courtenay Bay Summer Fun

By Carolyn MacLennan We had our first,” End Of Summer BBQ/Dance,” for children in the Courtenay Bay area. The children had so much fun that we plan to make it an annual event. The adults had just as much fun as well. We had a DJ and the kids danced all evening.

This was a new initiative by the Brunswick Dr. Tenant Association and Social Development, which took place outdoors in Stephen Park every Monday from 7 – 9 pm. For seven weeks, seven different bands/groups volunteered their time and performed for the seniors of Brunswick Dr., the residents of Courtenay Bay and for the neighbourhood as a whole. The music was a hit and the events were always well attended. Everyone enjoyed a BBQ each night which was run by volunteers. A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers who helped each week and who made this event so successful. A very special thank you goes out to our musician friends, Norm and Cathy Boucher, Wendy and Friends, Keith Facey, Marcel Caissie, Surrender and Krista Connell. Everyone had such a wonderful time this summer and are are hoping it becomes an annual event!

Fall Fair At The Salvation Army By Shelley McCready The Salvation Army Hope Community Church and Family Services, 27 Prince Edward St. / 36 Waterloo St. is excited to extend an invitation to all our friends to our annual Fall Fair being held on October 25th beginning at 6 pm.

It was so nice to see all the smiles, they didn't want the music to end. We had hotdogs and hamburgers with lots of treats throughout the evening. All the children were given a gift certificate by the end of the night. What an awesome way to end the summer!

Updates From The Waterloo Village

By Penni Eisenhauer The Waterloo Village Association meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 148 Waterloo Street (Coverdale Centre for Women) from 12 -1pm and continues to work on neighborhood priorities such as safety; beautification; and engaging residents to become involved in their community. This past summer, the group worked in partnership with Uptown SJ and surveyed the businesses in the neighbourhood and is excited about opportunities to engage with them. Also, the group had a successful bake sale & cake raffle and has raised over $200 that will be dedicated to a new sign for the By the Grace of God Garden. The group will be having another bake sale at Prince Edward Square Mall on Frday, November 1st, from 10 am -2 pm. By Nicolle Blissett, Acting Principal I am very pleased to announce that we have a new Community Schools/PALS Coordinator at Hazen White St. Francis School. Rebecca McCullough comes to us with this fabulous sense of energy! Rebecca began with us in August and has already started many wonderful initiatives with the school. We at HWSF are very lucky to have Rebecca working with us, our community and all of our PALS!! When you see her in your travels do say Hello.

The South End Lions Club generously donated a kitchen for the program and Holly Singh has gone above and beyond for our school by tirelessly helping with the lunch program. We want to send Holly and everyone involved a big THANK YOU from the Clippers of SJBKE School!

Without this help we most definitely would struggle to provide what our students need in these challenging economic times.

Celebrating Generosity

We are one of the luckiest schools. Each year we have Partners that make sure our school and our students have everything they need to start the year off right! Before school even started this year we had Partners donating book bags and school supplies, food for snacks and lunches, and people signed up to dedicate some of their time to spend with our students! We couldn’t support our students and families the way we do without the generosity and support we get from our PALS and Community Partners. We are so excited for what the year has in store and we are excited to celebrate all our successes with you!

Each year partners go above and beyond to help our students at a time when many of them are struggling as well. We certainly appreciate all that you do to start the year off in a great way for our students.

By Tabitha Hawker I am an empowered woman! Here is your cue to envision one of “them”... girls burning bras and screeching obscenities…but not so! “Them” would imply that I am not unique. As a member of the Female Empowerment Movement (FEM), I am proud of the work our committee has been doing to educate and raise awareness on sexual assault and rape culture, mainly through the eyes and hearts of young women; the largest demographic of victims. FEM strives to foster the strength all women share, but cannot always find within themselves. On Nov 30 at the Saint John City Market, we will be celebrating and enlivening this oh-so-strange, beautiful thing called “empowerment”, for women ages 17- 25. This includes having regular pap smear testing. Each year 400,000 women in Canada will receive an abnormal pap test result. If left untreated, the abnormal cells of the cervix could develop into cancer. On Oct 24, The Women’s Wellness Centre at St. Joseph’s Hospital will be offering a pap test clinic from 9 am – 3 pm. The Champlain Heights Community Association/Neighbourhood Watch Committee was originally formed in the 1980s, but after a period of inactivity was resurrected in Oct 2004. This was as a result of a concern by the residents of Champlain Heights of increased vehicle traffic and related safety issues, and of concern for inappropriate activity towards property.

Shelly McCready, The Salvation Army Saint John Hope Community Church and Family Services The Salvation Army, 27 Prince Edward St., will be taking Christmas registrations for those in need (who are not registered at another church and/ or the Empty Stocking Fund) from Nov 4 - Dec 6, 9:30-11:30 am and 1–2 pm.

The Committee, consisting of ‘Block Captains’ from all areas of the Heights, meets every month from Sep to Jun to discuss issues and some concerns reported to them by the residents of Champlain Heights. We meet with representatives of the Saint John Police Force, and at times, with the City of Saint John, including Traffic and Leisure Services to discuss our concerns and to seek solutions to the issues affecting the area.

Taking on a broader role, the group has now become an active community association to make our neighbourhood a safe, clean and wellmaintained area. We are doing this by undertaking an annual “Clean and Green” of the park adjacent to the Champlain Heights School and by promoting an interest in the area. Safe Harbour Transitional Youth Services is participating in the Aviva Community Fund Competition for a chance to win $150,000 and so far things are off to a good start!

By Kathy Floyd On August 27, there was excitement in the air; and the children were all smiles as we waited for the BIG bus to take us to the Huntsman Marine Science Centre in St. Andrews. We had packed a lunch and started out at 9 am for a fun filled day at the Centre, where we would learn about a lot of animals living under the sea. At the Marine Science Centre we got to meet with Minister Trevor Holder and then we went in and started our day. We got to hold sea life, and to see the smiles on the children’s faces and listen to all the questions. They asked if it was great fun to work there. We want to thank Minister Holder for giving the children the opportunity to enjoy this day and to thank the CV Community Tenants Association and the CV Resource Centre.

This year there is a special category for ideas that help at-risk youth. The At-Risk Youth Prize is one of two special Grand Prizes in the 2013 Aviva Community Fund and right now Safe Harbour is in the top 10 for this category. Matt Gives Y Staff A Reason To Celebrate

By Heather Oldfield, Director of the Forest Glen Community Centre Matt is a young man who attended our YMCA Integrated Day Camp for a number of years. Every summer we saw huge changes in Matt. He went from being a young child who struggled with a few issues such as noise and interacting with others to being able to stay overnight at our annual sleepover. This past summer was to be his last at the Y. Matt informed his mother that he was going to be a helper like the Y staff. Matt became a “Y Worker” with different duties to fulfill each day. At the end of the week his mother provided money which we gave to Matt along with a pay stub listing the duties he accomplished. Matt was very proud of the work. This Award provides newcomers with $1000 towards tuition at a post-secondary institution of their choice in Saint John, NB. Thanks to everyone who helped build the Scholarship Award once again this year; we couldn’t have done it without our dedicated volunteers, our great partners, and our awesome community! Anglin Drive Playground Expands

CV Summer Squad Crescent Valley and area children had an amazing summer filled with fun, crafts, exercise, field trips, special events, Storytents, and more. Trips to the Aquatic Centre, Buskers on the Boardwalk, adventures at DayTripping and the beach were a few of the fun activities that made for a memorable summer in CV. The Human Development Council (HDC) was pleased to learn that it was successful in its application to have Saint John join a national program to focus on youth homelessness. Saint John will join Kamloops, Kingston and Guelph in a program that will help our community develop a youth homelessness strategy.

Each has a story, as do we all, of struggle and victory over various challenges. We were so happy to be able to pamper them a bit with new hairdos, manicures, make up and a delicious meal. It was a special bonding time for us all and so different than the circumstances we usually find ourselves in when we spend time together. Everyone left holding their heads a little higher. A big thank you to our friends at The Academy of Hair as well as Esther Gallop of Mary Kay for giving of their time and effort to provide excellent pampering to our ladies.

As a unified body of individuals we share social values, beliefs, attitudes, and interests which help shape and construct our sense of belonging. It is with our community, that we celebrate our joy because they are the foundation on which we stand. During times of hardship, it is our community that we lean on for support because they understand our pain. Aligned with the values of the Thanksgiving Holiday, we should give thanks to our community and celebrate all of the things that bring us together.

PALS At Saint John Energy Pay It Forward Krista Turnbull, Community Schools Coordinator St. Patrick’s School Recently our PALS at Saint John Energy decided to Pay it Forward in a huge way not only to St. Pat's but to so many children in our Saint John community. They provided Tim Horton's Smile Cookies and milk to every student at St. Pat's. Proceeds from the Smile Cookies go to support the annual Empty Stocking Fund in Saint John. Our PALS In The Line truck were joined by Saint John Energy employees to make the delivery. Students enjoyed the treats outside on the playground with some apples at recess and they admired the big truck as well. As always, we are so very appreciative for all our PALS at Saint John Energy for helping to make a difference in the lives of our students.

Children attended overnight camp at Camp Glenburn and participated in the variety of Day Camps that were offered in many locations throughout Greater Saint John.

PALS At St. Malachy’s By Susan Tipper It is hard to believe that summer has come and gone and we have just finished the first month of school!! If only January and February flew by like July and August. I hope everyone had a good summer and that we are all energized for another school year.

Each year the Y raises money through the Strong Kids Campaign to provide support for children and families that can't afford the regular program fees. Many lasting memories were made for children in our community, thanks to our YMCA Strong Kids Campaign donors! "If they say you remember awesome times, then I’ll never forget this!" Brittany - Camp Glenburn.

Hockey Program At Boys & Girls Club Top Corner is a new “learn-to-play” hockey program being offered by the Boys and Girls Club of Saint John. This 20-week program will provide children ages 8-12, an opportunity to play hockey despite financial barriers. Youth participants from the South End and The Village neighbourhoods interested in learning to play hockey will have an opportunity to apply for Top Corner. Top Corner will take place Saturdays beginning mid-November at the Peter Murray Arena. The selected participants will be provided with equipment, ice time, and developmental coaching. Transportation for this program will be available to those participants. For more information about Top Corner please contact the Boys and Girls Club at 634-2011.

This is the 3rd year that PALS has been at St. Malachys. It is in the fall that the Learning Partnership hosts a national day for grade 9 students, Take Our Kids to Work Day. Every year we organize a day for those students who, for one reason or another, do not have a workplace to visit. We board the kids on the Go Bus in the morning and venture off to Canaport LNG where we are given a guided tour of the facility. We then travel to the NBCC Allied Health Building, located on the UNBSJ campus. Students will have the opportunity to take part in many activities that have been arranged just for them. We are treated to a beautiful luncheon at the Trade and Convention Center and end our day at Irving Paper or Irving Tissue. This is a great day for students and for the PALS coordinators. Students learn a lot and are exposed to many opportunities. Special thanks to the folks at Emera, Canaport LNG, Irving Paper, Irving Tissue, NBCC and Deb Fisher (PALS Coordinator) for making this day possible.

Learn And Go 2013 - Go Teams Go! Participants from each of Saint John’s priority neighbourhoods started skill building workshops on September 23. Project ideas are flowing! Teams are forming! The excitement is growing! In the weeks to come Learn and Go teams will be working on developing their projects that will help their neighbourhoods. In the past Learn and Go programs included projects such as lighting, crosswalks, traffic calming measures, pole ashtrays, and playground improvements. In November 2013 teams will have an opportunity to present their projects to potential partners.

By Mel Voutour It is with deep regret that the Saint John Community Loan Fund announces the death of one of its staff, Judi Chisholm. Judi had been the Coordinator of our Asset$ and Money Matter$ programs for the past two years. As a small staff contingent of seven people, we are truly a second family. Judi worked closely with all of us and we are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. Judi loved her work; she had a smile for everyone and in her many travels to deliver training, she remembered each and every person and the personal stories she heard. She was often looking at other ways to help or get information to people and she loved it when her participants would let her know how they had grown or benefitted from her work! Following in the theme of Celebrate, it is our hope that those who knew her, and had a chance to work with her, will join us later this fall as we look to honour and celebrate all she did with the Loan Fund and for the people of Saint John!

Tammy On Her Final Day At B.E.S.T My name is Tammy and I participated in the B.E.S.T (Basic Education Skills Training) program at the Learning Exchange. I wanted to get my GED before the end of pregnancy. I felt very comfortable in the program and enjoyed coming. The B.E.S.T program helped me so much in building my confidence and I'm excited to write my GED! After my positive experiences here at the Learning Exchange, I cannot wait to go on to college. I don't think I ever could have kept motivated on my own. I am so grateful that the Learning Exchange exists!

When the opportunity came for me to facilitate the Stephenson Tower/Charlton Place supper club, I was excited to have the chance. The seniors and I get together once a month and cook/bake.

Recycling In Crescent Valley

By Patti Driscoll What a better way to wrap up the summer then by celebrating with an ice cream party! That’s what happened at the Crescent Valley Recourse Center for the winners of The Blue Run recycling contest. These keen residents of Crescent Valley had been participating in a recycling program started by the Crescent Valley Resource Center in conjunction with the Department of Social Development. To encourage participation by all residents, the Resource Center and the curbside recycling pick up company, The Blue Run, launched a summer contest. Households were divided into teams and given an ice cream flavour team name. The team with the highest percentage participation in recycling tracked over the 12 week contest period won an ice cream party, complete with lots of flavourful toppings and some prize draws to boot! The contest proved to be a nail-biter to the bitter end and four teams enjoyed the friendly competition. It was Team Butterscotch who won the battle and the ice cream party. All the teams deserve recognition for their recycling efforts, because as we all know the entire community wins when we recycle!

CV Community Garden In 21 Years

By Amanda Sherman, Program Faciltator Coverdale Centre for Women Inc., located at 148 Waterloo Street, is pleased to be offering some great programs this fall. Are you looking for somewhere to go during the day? Our drop in centre is the place for you. With the coffee always flowing and women always ready to chat, there is something for every woman. On Monday – Wednesday -Friday, you can participate in programs about self-esteem, boundaries, effective communication, healthy relationships, money management, meal planning, and anger expression (just to name a few). Thursday afternoons are craft days. Come get your hands dirty and take something wonderful home. Every second Wednesday is our hot lunch day, come visit, chat and eat. On October3rd, the ladies from Kingswood University will be coming to serve us a fantastic Thanksgiving lunch. Hot Lunch Schedule; Oct. 9th, Oct. 23rd, Nov. 6th, Nov. 20th, Dec.4th, and Dec. 18th (Christmas lunch) Coverdale would like to congratulate “Around the Block” on five great years of keeping us informed about what is going on in our communities.

By Juanita Black The weather wasn’t the best, but everyone worked in their garden to harvest many different crops. The garden expanded this year to allow more families and there are hopes to have 2 raised beds for the 2014 season. In our yearly friendly garden contest, members prepared their plots for the judge on Aug 29. Ribbons were presented to: Front row Karen & Frank Rodgerson 2nd place. Back row left to right; Elaine & Karen Orser honourable mention, Kathy Floyd (missing Dave) 3rd place, Louise Buick 1st place and the judge Judy Whalen.

The annual Gagetown apple picking tour for seniors was held on October 4. Fifty-six participants (a record number) filled the bus and headed to Charlotte’s Family Orchard in the village of Gagetown. Residents from Crescent Valley, Stephenson Tower, 33 Smythe Street and Brunswick Drive apartments had a fun-filled day of sunshine, beautiful N.B. fall scenery, and many laughs. After apple picking, the group travelled the Evandale ferry and headed to Mama George’s restaurant in Springfield for a delicious lunch. Congratulations to Harold Power of Stephenson Tower who won the “Guess the Pumpkin’s Weight” contest. His guess was closest to the actual weight of 505 pounds! Harold got to take home a much more manageable pumpkin. Many thanks to NB Dept. of Social Development and the City of Saint John Leisure Services Dept. for organizing the trip.

Presley Proudly Holding Her B.E.S.T Certificate “I came to the Learning Exchange to get my GED and eventually work with children. I wanted to get a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from NBCC and work in a daycare. Since being in the B.E.S.T (Basic Education Skills Training) program at the Learning Exchange, my ambitions have soared a little higher. I am now waiting to take a training course, Autism 101, so that I can work with autistic children. The Learning Exchange has been a great tool in helping me achieve my goals. I now have the confidence in myself needed to achieve the things I want in life.”

Le jeudi 17 octobre prochain, nous aurons la chance de démontrer à quel point nous sommes fiers du bilinguisme qui s’épanouit dans la ville portuaire.

Théâtre Louis Vermeersch, Thursday, October 17th, 2013 at 7:30pm By Ginette Hébert The Association Régionale de la Communauté francophone (ARCf) de Saint-Jean, in collaboration with Symphony New Brunswick, will present the great Symphonic Unisson Symphonique event. This production will allow two francophone artists, Lina Boudreau and Pascal Lejeune, as well as two Anglophone artists, Jessica Rhaye and Thom Swift, to share the stage of the Louis Vermeersch Theatre, along with 28 musicians from Symphony New Brunswick, under the leadership of Michael Newnham. This is a great way to show our appreciation for such a gathering, given that this is the opening act for New Brunswick Music Week, which is held in Saint John for the first time.
