GRAND CENTRAL PERFORMANCE
OBJECTIVE: TO DESIGN A MULTIFUNCTIONAL BUILDING FOR STUDENTS AND FACULTY, WHERE THEY CAN DO ACTIVITIES SUCH AS SHOPPING, GATHERING, AND DANCING. SITE: UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA BERKELEY CONCEPT: DESIGNING A LIGHT STEEL STRUCTURE AND ATTATCH LIGHT VEGETATIONS TO CREATE A PARK LIKE ENVIRONMENT, WHERE STUDENTS CAN WALK AND ENJOY THE BEAUTYUL VIEW OF BAY AREA.
STRATEGY: CREATING A GRID ON THE LOWER AND UPPER PLAZA OF THE BERKELEY UNIVERSITY, AND CREATING
MODUALS BASED ON THAT, IN A WAY THAT THE GRID CONNECTS THE SPROUL HALL BUILDING AND SATHER GATE AND MARTIN LUTHER KING BUILDING AND CEZER CHAVEZ BUILDING AND MY OWN DESIGNED STUDENT PROGRAM CENTER. MAIN COMPONENTS OF THE PROJEC ARE PROPORTION OF THIS MODUAL. FOR EXAMPLE, THE GATE IS CONSIST OF 5 OF THE MODUALS AND THE DOOR AND SINDOW HEIGHTS ARE ONE MODUAL. THE COLUMNS ARE 2.5 MODUALS FAR AWAY FROM EACH OTHER.
DESCRIPTIONS: ORIGINALLY, SATHER GATE SERVED AS THE MAIN ENTERANCE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE
BERKELEY UNIVERSITY. HOWEVER, AFTER BUILDING NEW BUILDINGS ON THE SOUTHER EDGE OF THE UNIVERSITY, IT LOST ITS ORIGINAL FUNCTION. DESIGNING A NEW GREEN GATE AS THE ENTRANCE OF THE UNIVERSITY, NOT ONLY CONNECTED THE SATHER GATE WITH THE NEW BUILDINGS, BUT ALSO PROVIDED A NEW CIRCULATION FOR THE NEW BUILDINGS AND MY PROJECT.
