OBJECTIVE

Architecture could be more than just a physiological

The objective is through architecture by means of environment, spatial attributes and perception to design a recess for the people looking for various kinds of pause in their life. To create a tranquil and therapeutic experience and make environment more healing ,calming and interactive. To redefine the experience and the function of a public space and to recreate them.

IDEOLOGY

Experience can be designed and enhanced. Experiencing structure has less to do with what the building might look like but rather to do with the way it engages with all of our senses.

AIM •

To re-think about design strategy of the de-stressing mind and the body.

To stimulate vibrant social life in public space and to induce holistically pleasing pause.

Design an experience – a dialogue between human and the built form

PRIYANKA GUPTA 6373

RESEARCH ABSTRACT Architecture exists primarily to be at the service of the body. Every day, we experience it without a second thought about how it’s design it affects us physically, mentally and emotionally. By exploring and understanding the effect of space, light, materials and spiritual experience of architecture on human beings, a facility can be designed that just not create a visual statement but an experience that stimulates the human sense in entirety. The dissertation aims to re-examine the idea of interaction between the built form and human. Study look to explore perception of spaces beyond its literal connotation, as an emotional, sensory and contextual element in design. Intent is to utilize the resulting inferences to realise the power of architecture to heal holistically and thereby creating a positive difference.

Proposal The proposal aims at utilizing the power of architecture to cure, in the process of holistic well being. Design is comprised of spaces that induces healing activities for the user to reconnect with one senses, emote and stimulate rejuvenation of the mind body and soul . The way humans experience the world is through our senses, by taking in the moment and processing that information. If designers can produce an architecture that promotes positive, enjoyable, unique, memorable and

Subtle symphony between user, the built form and nature has compelling, positive impacts on the mind and body. The dissertation looks to apply the aforementioned statements under the umbrella of holistic well-being. It takes into consideration the growing implications of problems like stress and burnouts on the present urban population and their growing dis- association with self and their surroundings. The ultimate intent of the design is to enhance the spatial experience for the user in their pause period.

HIERARCHY •The hierarchy is marked by the entrance to the temple. •At the main entrance, the long steps on the front and green mounds on both sides which adds a vertical dimension to it. •There are 2 other pathways marking the entry/exit to the temple, but are less in width marking the hierarchy of spaces

RHYTHM &REPETITON •The design is composed of 27 free-standing marble- clad “petals” arranged in clusters of three to form nine sides. •These 3 petals each with a pond, have been repeated symmetrically at reguar

intervals creating a rhythmic pattern. •Rhythmic patterns provide continuity and lead us to anticipate what comesnext. •From the main node the structure looks monumental The entry gates in the main hall are in human scale with almost 4m of height •Once visitor enter the main prayer hall,

An imaginary vertical axis representing linkage between sky , earth and underworld.

• Energy centre :Concentrating spirals at the epicentre, symbolises as the source of energy . • Vertical axis represents the idea of axis mundi. • 6 spiralling members from 6 directions , • it makes the structure as it is moving with sun.

SUSTAINIBILITY: Passive design strategies For thermal comfort.( ventilation is the prime objective ) •

Provision of service areas

Cooling :

1.

Fenestrations and floor plan layouts have been designed to facilitate natural ventilation through most of the spaces

2.

Few secured private areas are ventilated by water cooled chillers Semi open buffer zones

3. Proper enveloping to reduce space conditioning loads in AC spaces and to meet thermal comfort in non-AC spaces. 4. VFD (Variable Frequency Drives ) installed in A.H.Us (Air Handling Units) •

Dehumidifier :

1.

Desiccants are a group of adsorbent materials that have a great affinity for water vapor.

2.

Lime plaster

Insulation on walls / roof : Earth berming and green veneer system

Microclimate strategies:

1.

various has been applied : Creating buffer zones , incorporation of vegetation by different means and small water holding ponds.

2.

Air pollution control measures such as site barricading, wheel washing has also been planned

SUSTAINIBILITY Water conservation on the project

Gunny bags/hessian cloth were used for curing of columns and ponding technique was used for curing of slabs

Reduction water demand by installing water efficient fixtures, use of low-flow plumbing fixtures and aerators.

STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) based on reed bed system treats sewage generated from the project.

The treated water from STP is reused for irrigation purpose.

Reduction in landscape water demand has been achieved due to installation of sprinklers and drip irrigation system as well as plantation of only native and naturalized trees.

Reduction in irrigation water consumption by using less of lawn & more of trees/Shrubs

Rain water harvesting is introduced for ground water recharge.

Energy conservation on the project and strategies / fixtures.

100% of the outdoor lights have been connected with automatic switches and PV panels.

Water cooled chiller have been installed which complies with ECBC: Water-cooled chillers are more efficient because they condense depending on the ambient temperature bulb temperature, which is lower than the ambient dry bulb temperature.

Solar hot water system (flat plate collector type) of a total has been installed for the spa purpose.

ECBC compliant motors, transformers and pumps have been installed

Proper enveloping to reduce space conditioning loads in AC spaces and to meet thermal comfort in non-AC spaces.

VFD (Variable Frequency Drives ) installed in A.H.Us (Air Handling Units)

Adequate day lighting and glare control measures adopted.

Working desks equipped with LED lights governed by motion sensors. ECBC compliant artificial lighting .
