This daily action is an unreachable challenge for over 941 people who sleep every night on the street of Barcelona. But the option of having a key is possible if we add an indispensable ingredient: the citizen’s will. In 2016, 1,916 people used the services offered by Arrels and 231 did not sleep on the street. That was possible thanks to the 4,356 donors, the 392 volunteers who participate each day, the 54 workers and all the people who have lent a helping hand. Can you imagine what we could do when we grow? We are convinced that #nobodysleepingonthestreet is possible but only if we all get involved.

We have served
118 more people than in 2015. We have achieved
14 more stable floors, 12 of which are single.
We have offered a
reception area with basic services such as showers and lockers for 1,518 people, 11% more than 2015.
Challenges for 2017 We will reinforce the street teams of Arrels to visit more people who sleep on the street in Barcelona.
We will look for more individual floors so that more people in an unstable situation can have a home and we will continue to increase their autonomy.
We will open new spaces so that people who are no longer living on the streets can occupy their time in a useful way and, at the same time, open their doors to all neighbors.
We will continue to involve and explain to citizens what to do when they see someone living on the street.

In the month of May we went out to count how many people slept on the steet in Barcelona, in a recital organized by the Homeless People’s Network. We found 941 people.
At the end of May, Arrels organized a census of homeless people, enrolling 348 people who were sleeping on the street.

NETWORKING BY HOUSING FIRST.
VISIBILITY OF DEATHS.
We have collected 3,700 ads from neighbors concerned about people sleeping on the street in Barcelona and have explained what they can do to lend a hand.
We have continued to support homeless people so they can live on individual and stable flats. The high rental prices, however, are a great challenge.
We have promoted a meeting of entities and administrations of some 30 municipalities in Catalonia to deepen the Housing First model by experts.
We have gone out to remind the homeless people who have died during the last year to bring this reality out of invisibility.
KNOW MORE ABOUT THE REALITY OF THE STREET. We talk to the people who sleep on the street in Barcelona to understand how vulnerable they are and we have collaborated with administration entities in the counting process.
A NEW HOSTING RESOURCE. We have launched Piso Zero, a resource of low demand for homeless people who have not found a place in any other resource. In 2017 we want to consolidate.
