FULL CHISEL CUTTERS
Full chisel cutters are designed for fast, smooth cutting at high-speeds in clean conditions. The square cutter edge, designed to reduce friction, provides an extremely smooth clean cut and fast chip clearance. The full chisel cutter is preferred by professional users and recommend for experienced users.
SEMI-CHISEL CUTTERS
The cutter on semi-chisel chains has a slight radius on the leading edge allowing it to stay sharper longer and cut faster in dirty conditions. A semi-chisel chain will take a less aggressive bite, or cut, from the wood.
CHIPPER CUTTERS
Specifically engineered with a large, curved radius, chipper cutters are designed for cutting parallel to the wood grain. Chipper chains are designed for use in sawmills. They are not recommended for handheld use.

PITCH
It is essentially the size of a saw chain. In order to determine a saw chain’s pitch, measure the distance between the center of any three consecutive rivets and then divide by two.
GAUGE
A saw chain’s gauge is the thickness of a drive link measured at the tang. The guide bar’s gauge is the thickness of the bar groove opening. It’s essential that the drive link thickness correctly matches the width of the groove in the guide bar to prevent wear and provide a smooth, consistent, cut.
KERF
A saw chain’s kerf is the thickness of the actual cut in the wood. Optimum kerf for a saw chain is dependent on the chain saw’s horsepower, saw chain speed, guide bar length, and the type of timber being cut.
NARROW KERF
Commonly used on battery and smaller saws, the cutters are slimmer, resulting in a thinner or narrower cut.

PITCH
CUTTER TOOTH
The cutter tooth is the part of the chain that does the actual cutting. As your saw chain moves around the bar, every individual cutter takes little chips, or bites, from the wood.
TIE STRAP
Working as connectors; tie straps work in conjunction with rivets to secure all of the chain parts together into a full loop. Tie straps are also used on the reverse side of a cutter tooth or a guard link securing them in place and connecting the chain’s parts.
RIVET
Rivets are the round pegs, that when spun down, create a flat seal. The chain rivets function as a rotational pivot joint and work with the tie straps to hold the chain together.
TriLink® safety saw chain incorporates ramped depth gauges to allow smooth high speed cutting while reducing kickback and vibration. All TriLink® safety saw chain has been UL tested in accordance with ANSI B175.1 standards and meets all requirements.
NON-SAFETY CHAIN
CHAIN COMPONENTS
A drive link’s tang sits inside a guide bar rail keeping the chain attached and aligned. The power head’s sprocket utilizes the drive links to pull the chain around the guide bar and keep it moving.
A safety version of a drive link, a bumper link reduces chainsaw kickback while cutting in addition to keeping the chain attached, aligned, and moving.
A guard link is a safety version of a tie strap, reducing the chances of kickback by limiting the cutter tooth from snagging on small branches or other imperfections.
All TriLink® professional non-safety saw chain are designed and engineered for fast, smooth cutting at high speeds in all cutting conditions. Non-Safety saw chain’s do not include bumper links or guard links.

GUIDE BARS
Guide bars can be divided into two key parts: the nose and bar mounts. The bar nose will determine the bar type and the bar mounts determines the correct guide bar for your chainsaw’s power head.
GUIDE BAR TYPES:
Carving bars have a small radius nose and are designed for precision shape cutting, pruning, and trimming.
Mini-Laminate have a single rivet in the sprocket nose, are lighter-weight and designed for less demanding tasks.
Laminate bars include four rivets in the sprocket nose and are typically used by the semi-professional users. The sturdy construction stands up to more demanding cutting situations than a mini-laminate bar.
Replaceable Sprocket Nose (RSN) bars have a detachable nose tip that allows the nose, where most wear and tear happens, to be replaced rather than replacing the whole bar.
Hard Nose bars are constructed from a solid piece of steel and are specifically engineered and designed for use when cutting in dirty conditions.
