THE FRIENDS OF QUARRY PARK

It was another very busy morning on 7th July at our monthly Work Party. 17 eager volunteers joined our 2 DMBC Rangers in the sunshine to tackle a range of tasks including hedge trimming at the Car Park and on Carrot Corner; cutting off overhanging and broken branches in the woods; cutting back nettles and brambles along many of the paths and near the Zip Wire. We also trimmed the grass and weeds from around the way marker and orienteering posts and some of the benches. The vegetation has had a growth spurt due to the recent rain so there was plenty to do.

Our merry band of litter pickers did an amazing job as always, collecting 3 large bags of rubbish. We finished off with well-earned drinks accompanied by cakes from Debra and Katrina’s rhubarb crumble! It was a very hot day, so a visit from the ice cream van would have been very welcome! Maybe next time.

Another great effort from everyone involved, well done and thank you. We have been successful in a number grant applications recently. The funds from these grants will be used later in the year to help us to continue with our tree and bulb planting programme, as well as providing a new bench.

Work parties are usually held on the first Friday of each month, weather permitting. There is always plenty of work to be done, from litter picking, clearing paths and cutting back vegetation. Equipment is provided but please ensure you wear suitable clothing and footwear. The next events are scheduled for Friday 4th August and Friday 1st September 10am – 12 noon, meet at the Green Flag.
