Mei lalu, sewaktu bercakap kepada 250 asatizah di perjumpaan tahunan Majlis Hari Raya Asatizah, Mufti Dr Nazirudin Nasir turut menyeru untuk terus maju ke hadapan. Peranan asatizah juga menjangkau memberi panduan yang diperlukan bagi masyarakat Islam walaupun ia kekal sebagai tanggungjawab pemimpin agama. Ini perlu dilakukan dengan prinsip dan pengetahuan yang kukuh. Beliau juga menekankan bahawa keyakinan terhadap identiti agama yang unik bagi Muslim Singapura dan keyakinan terhadap ketetapan kontekstualisme adalah kunci bagi kepimpinan dan panduan agama yang berkesan, terutama sedang kita melangkah ke hadapan dalam era endemik yang akan datang.

After a two-year deferment, the Haj pilgrimage resumes for international pilgrims this year. This is truly a momentous occasion, especially so for Haj pilgrims who had been scheduled to embark for the pilgrimage in 2020. Crowds of families and friends gathered at the airport for a warm sendoff for this long awaited journey since the first departure on 25th June. This year, Singapore has been granted with additional quota for Haj 1443H/2022 by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Muis has successfully allocated all additional places to pilgrims in accordance with the conditions and requirements for Haj 1443H/2022 as well as the places in the Muis’ Advance Haj Registration System (AHRS). Chief Executive of Muis, Mr Kadir Maideen, departed for Haj as well on 3rd July as the head of the Singapore Pilgrims’ Affairs Office (SPAO).

மனிதன் பொருளீட்டவும் பொழுதுபோக்கவும் பயணம் செய்கிறான். இதில் தன்னலமும் ஆசைகளுமே மிகைத்திருக்கும். இறைக்காதலின் உந்துதலால் அர்ப்பணிப்புடன் மேற்கொள்ளும் பயணம்தான் ஹஜ் பயணமாகும். ஹஜ் என்பது இறைக்கட்டளையாகும். அல்லாஹ் குர்ஆனில் “ஹஜ்ஜையும் உம்ராவையும் அல்லாஹ்வுக்காக முழுமைப்படுத்துங்கள்”, என்று கூறுகிறான். (அல்குர்ஆன் – 2:196) நபி (ஸல்) கூறினார்கள், “மக்களே, அல்லாஹ் உங்கள்மீது ஹஜ்ஜைக் கடமையாக்கிவிட்டான். எனவே ஹஜ் செய்யுங்கள்.” (நூல் – முஸ்லிம்)

நமது தந்தை இப்ராஹிம் (அலை) அவர்களின் தியாகத்தை நினைவுபடுத்தும் இந்த ஹஜ் கடமையை நிறைவேற்றுவது எண்ணற்ற சிறப்புகளுக்கு நம்மைச் சொந்தமாக்குகிறது. பாவங்களிலிருந்து நம்மைப் பரிசுத்தப்படுத்துகிறது. நபி (ஸல்) அவர்கள், “ஒருவர் தீயப் பேச்சுக்கள் மற்றும் பாவச் செயல்களில் ஈடுபடாமல் கபாவிற்குச் சென்று ஹஜ் செய்தால் (தாயின் வயிற்றிலிருந்து) அன்று பிறந்த பாலகனைப் போல (பாவங்களிலிருந்து வெளியேறி) திரும்புகிறார்”, என்று கூறியுள்ளார்கள். (நூல் – புகாரி முஸ்லிம்) இஸ்லாமும் ஹஜ்ரத்தும் அதற்கு முந்திய பாவங்களை அழித்துவிடும். அதே போல ஹஜ்ஜும் அதற்கு முந்திய பாவங்களை அழித்துவிடுகிறது. (நூல் – முஸ்லிம்) ஒப்புக்கொள்ளப்பட்ட ஹஜ்ஜுக்குச் சுவனத்தைத் தவிர வேறு கூலி இல்லை. (நூல் – புகாரி முஸ்லிம்) ஹாஜி ஏழையாகமாட்டார். (நூல் – தப்ரானி) இஹ்ராம் கட்டிய நிலையில் மரணிப்பவரைத் தல்பியா சொல்லும் நிலையில் மறுமையில் அல்லாஹ் எழுப்புவான். (நூல் – புகாரி முஸ்லிம்) ஒருவர் ஹஜ் அல்லது உம்ரா செல்வதற்காக வெளியேறிச் செல்லும் வழியிலேயே மரணமடைந்தால் அல்லாஹ் அவருக்கு மறுமை நாள் வரை ஹஜ் அல்லது உம்ராவின் நன்மைகளை வழங்குகிறான். (நூல் – பைஹகீ)

இத்தகைய மாபெரும் சிறப்புகளைப் பெற்றுத்தரும் ஹஜ்ஜை ஒப்புக்கொள்ளப்பட்டதாக அமைத்துக்கொள்ள நபி (ஸல்) அவர்கள் சொல்லித்தரும் விஷயங்களைக் கவனத்துடன் கடைபிடிக்க வேண்டும். மக்களுக்கு உணவளிப்பதும் நல்ல வார்த்தைகளைப் பரப்புவதும் ஹஜ்ஜை ஒப்புக்கொள்ளப்பட்டதாக ஆக்கும். எந்த ஹஜ்ஜில் அல்லாஹ்வை அதிகம் நினைவுகூறப்படுகிறதோ அதுவே சிறந்த ஹஜ்ஜாகும். ஹஜ் கடமையாகுவதற்குரிய நிபந்தனைகள்: 1. பருவமடைந்த சுதந்திரமான முஸ்லிமாக இருக்க வேண்டும். 2. நல்ல ஆரோக்கியத்துடன் இருக்க வேண்டும். 3. பயணத்திற்குத் தேவையான அனைத்து வசதிகளும் இருக்க வேண்டும். இதில் உணவு, உடை, உறைவிடம், வாகனம் மற்றும் பயணச் செலவுகள் அடங்கும். 4. புத்தி சுவாதீனமுடையவராக இருக்க வேண்டும். 5. பெண்ணுக்கு மஹரமான ஆண் துணை வேண்டும். ஹஜ்ஜுக்காகச் செலவிடும் பணம் பரிசுத்தமானதாக இருக்க வேண்டும். ஹாராமான பொருளில் ஹஜ் செய்தால் ஹஜ் நிறைவேறாது. புனித கஅபாவிற்குச் சென்றுவர சக்தியிருந்தும் யார் அதைச் செய்யவில்லையோ அவர் முஸ்லிமல்லாதவராக இறந்துபோகலாம். அதைப் பற்றி அல்லாஹ்வுக்கு எந்தப் பிரச்சனையுமில்லை என்ற ஹதீஸின் கருத்தின் எச்சரிக்கைக்குப் பயந்து தாமதிக்காமல் ஹஜ்ஜை நிறைவேற்ற வேண்டும். அல்லாஹ் நம் அனைவருக்கும் தாமதமின்றி விரைவாக ஹஜ்ஜை நிறைவேற்றும் பாக்கியத்தைத் தந்தருள்வானாக! ஆமின்!

However, did he lay a foundation suitable for all time and situation, particularly in Singapore as a country of minority Muslims? This book, The four Models from the Prophetic Guidance on Coexistence with Others ( )النماذج األربعة من هدي النبي في التعايش مع اآلخرينis authored by the former Mufti of Egypt, Sheikh Ali Gomaa. It presents Prophet Muhammad’s interactions with different group of people in four distinct stages and states of his life. Namely, 1. The Makkah Al-Mukarramah Model: where he was in a state of patience coexistence, 2. The Habshah (Abyssinia) Model: where he was in a state of fulfilment societal engagement, 3. The first Period in Madinah Model: where he was in a state of tolerance cooperation, 4. The second period in Madinah Model: where he was in a state of justice awareness (of problem) before pursuing (a mandate).

This book is a great read as it highlights the prophetic wisdom in building and strengthening ties with non-Muslims, which is beautifully aligned to the principles and fundamentals of Islam.

Sheikh also coupled Islam’s approach of peace and tolerance towards humanity as well as Muslims’ obligation in adorning ourselves with clear moral values (compassion, love, justice, upholding virtues, etc.) with examples in the form narrations to demonstrate each point in their respective models. Also, in conclusion, he outlined the main takeaways from all the models including Prophet’s policies in coexisting with others outside Madinah.

With the arrival of Zulhijjah, it reminds us of Haj, an ‘Ibadah made obligatory once in a lifetime upon Muslims who fulfil its conditions. Although the majority of Muslims around the world will not be observing Haj in the same year, many of them are capable of performing Qurban i.e. sacrificing animals as an act of worship. The history of Qurban goes back to the story of Prophet Ibrahim a.s. when he dreamt of sacrificing his son, Prophet Ismail a.s. during his youth. Allah S.W.T. says in the Quran: َفَلَّما َبَلَغ َمَعُه الَّسْعَي َقاَل ٰيُبَنَّي ِاِّنْٓي َاٰرى ِفى اْلَمَناِم َاِّنْٓي َاْذَبُحَك َفاْنُظْر َماَذا َتٰرۗى َقاَل ٰٓيَاَبِت اْفَعْل َما ُتْؤَمُۖر َسَتِجُدِنْٓي ِاْن َشاَء الّٰلُه ِمَن الّٰصِبِرْيَن Then when he (Prophet Ismail a.s.) reached the age to work with him, he (Prophet Ibraham a.s.) said, “O my dear son! I have seen in a dream that I am sacrificing you. So tell me what you think.” He replied, “O my dear father! Do as you are commanded. Allah willing, you will find me steadfast.” (Surah al-Saffaat, 37:102) In Islam, we believe that the dreams of the prophets a.s. are regarded as wahyu (divine revelation) that must be obeyed. In this context, when Prophet Ibrahim a.s. sought the views of his son, it doesn’t suggest that he was doubtful about God’s command. Islam recognises the importance of social activism and works to change society for the better. Islam regards them as part of a da`wah work (sharing teachings of Islam to all) which is enjoined upon all Muslims. Thus, Muslims are encouraged to be involved in social activism as an extension of his responsibility to perform da`wah . However, to be successful in the endeavour, Muslims must know that successful social activism depends on its human capital: the activists. They could be the professionals who are employed to run social organisations and their related programmes or the volunteers who commit their time, ideas and energy to social works. As such, the success of a Muslim’s involvement in a particular da`wah work is dependent on his or her capacity as its human capital. Excellent human capital needs to be nurtured and developed because Man, in general, is not born to be an excellent activist. The issue is therefore: What makes an excellent Muslim activist? Answering this question is critical because it would help Muslim individuals and organisations to develop and cultivate certain traits or attributes in themselves or the activists
