2023

Thank you for your support and prayer that had made this year, 2022, so much to be grateful for. Wishing you a blessed and meaningful 2023. Mufti Dr Nazirudin Nasir

Assalamualaikum Wr Wb As this year, 2022 draws to a close, there is so much for us to be grateful for. No doubt it has been a very challenging time since the onset of the pandemic. Some of us have lost their loved ones and many fell ill. Some of our pain have healed, but some may never go away. And the future is still shrouded with uncertainties. But we have learnt to navigate one of the greatest challenges to restore our faith, to keep it going, and to be kind and compassionate to others around us. We did not lose the forest for the trees, because our religious principles and values guided us on what is important, what is at stake. The resilience we learnt in 2020, and the solidarity we showed in 2021, have helped us emerge from this crisis as a better and more united community and society. All these as the world around us is becoming more turbulent and evolving faster than ever before. It will continue to throw at us complex issues and test our spirituality to its very limits. We may doubt ourselves and our ability, once more, to overcome these challenges.

I have personally seen this from many Asatizah, leaders and volunteers in our religious institutions and faith communities. I wish to specifically mention members of the Fatwa Committee, the Asatizah Recognition Board, Muis and my team in the Office of the Mufti. They have stood together with me through thick and thin in this crisis. You have shown extraordinary desire and commitment to help uplift the community and preserve our progressive socio-religious life. Your efforts have now been recognised nationally and internationally. I am eternally grateful for your support and encouragement. With all humility, we accept these recognitions as a symbol of trust and a boost of confidence so that we bring more goodness to our communities and societies.

Faith leaders too have provided invaluable friendship and solidarity. Together, we have transformed our diversity into a strength and an asset. Our collective efforts have helped Singapore to be a unique home and an oasis of calm and prosperity. Thank you for your friendship and care and concern for our community's well-being. I am especially thankful to the Singapore Muslim community for your understanding and deep sense of social responsibility, of keeping others as well as you wish to keep yourself. This is the epitomy of our faith and its greatest manifestation. 2022 is indeed a year of immense gratitude, of shukr to Allah the Al-Mighty for His mercy and care, and of thanks to everyone for the good work each has done. I look forward to a new working year with an aspiration to further increase our community's understanding and appreciation of our rich intellectual heritage and tradition, and how it interacts with our world today, so that we will have the confidence and empowerment to offer new solutions in a much changed world. Like the proverbial tree in the Quran, our roots are well-entrenched in the ground but whose leaves branch out to refresh the world around us.^ For me, after the lessons of the pandemic, 2023 will be a year of wisdom, a year of

Once again, thank you for your support and prayer that had made this year so much to be grateful for. Wishing you a blessed and meaningful 2023. With much love and respect,
