Dyf set up a studio in Arles in 1922 and began his career as a landscape artist – painting views of the surrounding countryside. His work began to attract attention from collectors and dealers and it was not long before he began exhibiting at the Salon des Artists Français, Salon d’Autumn and Salon des Tulleries.
By 1935 Dyf had returned to Paris and during World War II he joined the Resistance and was based in Correze. By 1950 he had set up a studio in Cannes and a few years later met a young girl by the name of Claudine. Claudine was 19 at the time, some 36 years younger than Marcel, and in 1965 after posing for him for many years the two married. The spend many years together, traveling the world in search of subject matter and each summer they would spend time in their home in Brittany. By this time Dyf had become known for his impressionistic landscapes, still lives and portraits and his paintings had been exhibited throughout the world, with shows in England, America, Canada, Germany and Algeria. Today he is considered one of the last of the true Impressionist artists.

Lebasque was a founding member of the Salon d’Automne in 1903 with his friend Matisse. Two years later a group of artists exhibited there who included Rouault, Derain, Vuillard, Manguin and Matisse. They were dubbed ‘Les Fauves’ for their stylistic ‘savagery’.
The critic Vauxcelles noted that Lebasque’s talent arrived ‘in the midst of the roaring of the unchained beasts’. Like Les Fauves, Lebasque adopted a similar flattening of the picture plane, but blended with a sophisticated, subtle fluidity.
Antoine Bouvard Senior trained as an architect and studied art and architecture under Constant-Dufeus, at the Ecole des BeauxArts in Paris. His paintings show the influence of Felix Ziem, reflecting his love of Venice in the delicacy and fluidity of his use of colour, capturing in his paintings, the warmth and beauty that he found there.
Known as one of the most prolific painters of Venetian genre from this period, Bouvards works are broad and confidently painted, capturing all the atmosphere and charm of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. His popularity has continued to the present day, placing him amongst the most recognized and respected painters of Venetian subjects. Bouvard often painted under the pseudonym of Marc Aldine.
Carlos Nadal was a celebrated Spanish painter who lived in Paris during the first years of his life. These early years were instrumental to Nadal’s development as an artist. His father had a commercial design studio and was acquainted with established artists from Montparnasse such as Maurice Utrillo, Raoul Dufy and Henri Matisse, exposing the young Nadal particularly to the Fauvist techniques from the two latter artists, which would influence his own practice.
In 1921, when Nadal was five years old, the Nadal family moved to Barcelona and it is here that he developed his practice during his adolescence. From the age of 16 Nadal joined the Catalan artistic circle Cercles Artistis de Sant Lluc, which predominantly acted as a forum for artistic debate and provided exhibition opportunities for young emerging artists. It was a time where Nadal experimented with various new concepts and forms that were developing in Spain, but which ended abruptly during the outbreak of Spanish Civil War in 1936.

Olive’s artistic talents were evident from a young age, and at the advice of a local artist named Étienne Cornellier, he was enrolled at the École des BeauxArts de Marseille.
Following his studies, Olive entered the studio of Gustave
Julien and then Étienne Cornellier, with whom he travelled to Paris for the first time. In Paris, Olive became immersed in the bohemian circle of artists and writers that lived around Montmartre and soon assisted with the painting decorations of Sacré Coeur du Montmartre and the pavilions of the World Fair of 1889. Olive began to exhibit in the Paris Salons and received numerous awards for his vibrant and colourful landscapes, becoming a member of the Société des Artistes Français in 1881, a year which marked the beginning of a long and successful artistic career.

Léon Bellemont was a French marine painter born in Langres, in North-eastern France. He was a pupil of Leon Bonnat and exhibited in 1896 at the Salon of French Artists. He went on to receive a medal in 1905.
As a member of the Society of French Artists, he was noticed by his Breton navies and was placed in Hors-Concours in 1925, the year in which he was awarded the Marie Bashkirtseff Prize and the Bonnat Students’ Association Prize.
Victor Charreton
(1864-1936) belongs to a generation of artists who devoted themselves to ‘le paysage’, just like the Impressionists did before them, paying attention to the influence of seasons, light and colours. Furthermore, he travelled extensively and together with his wife, he visited Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, England, Spain and Morocco. His evolution tended towards a use of richer and brighter colours, notably in the mauves and violets which characterize his style. Victor Charreton is famous for his landscapes and still-life paintings, often sharing Impressionist preoccupations whilst trying to capture momentary effects of specific times of day or seasons, at sunset or in a snowy landscape.
Raymond Thibesart’s ethereal landscapes won great acclaim in the French Salons in the early twentieth century. Born in 1874, in the elegant town of Bar-sur-Aube, surrounded by gently rolling hills and the champagne vineyards of the Grand Est region, the beauty of the French landscape and the artistic possibilities that it evoked made a deep impression on the young Thibesart.
In his early twenties Thibesart studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later at the progressive Académie Julian under the tutorage of Jules Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury, who introduced a strong element of symbolism into his work. In 1903 Thibesart moved to Vaux sur Seine in the countryside to the north-west of Paris, encouraged by Boggio who had moved to the area the year earlier. The two artists travelled frequently to Italy, Switzerland and Belgium, often with their fellow artist and friend Henri Martin, to find new sources of inspiration.
Jacques van den
Jacques was a french artist, he was a student of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille in 1943; and then the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1945, his first personal exhibition took place in Casablanca in 1952 and 1954. He began to appear in 1953 at the Salon de la Jeune Peinture, the Prix Fénéon, the Prix Friesz, then in 1960 at the Salon d’Automne

Jacques Martin-Ferrieres was born in 1893 in Saint-Paul de Vence in South Eastern France into a family of artists, including his father Henri Martin, the famous pointillist. He began his formal training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, studying under Frederic Cormon and Ernest Laurent, but soon looking away from academic conventions and restraints of the day. He gradually became known for his thick application of paint, applying it in layers to give the canvas a type of animation, as well as learning the pointillist technique from father. Martin, he became known as a painter of portraits and landscapes. He also enjoyed painting in Winter from the 1950’s onwards.

Baudoin was the son of a sculptor and therefore woke up very early to an artistic life. His family supported his talent and sent him to Paris to live with his Uncle. He was the student of ‘Trupheme’, a Director at the Superior Class of Drawing in Paris whom he also studied with Rousseau, Bouguereau, Robert-Fleury, Baschet and Royer. His family bought him a hotel at Montparnasse in order to help support him. Having won awards for his work of wood engraving exhibited at the exhibition between 1888-1896 Jean-Franck Baudoin turned to painting. It was in the Ile de Re (his place of birth) where his family were refuged during the war of 1870, that the artist mostly used his easel.
As a Montmartre native, Eugene Paul was born in Paris in 1985 and began drawing and painting as a child. His father died at age 10 and Paul was then trained to work in decorative furnishings to help support his family. He served in the French army during WWI and was wounded twice, resulting in him losing a leg. This then inspired his return to painting. Although Paul never reciebed any formal training he became fast friends with Juan Gris who helped him a great deal and he went on to make a living from his art for almost sixty years.
Paul first exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Indépendants in Paris in 1920, and went on to be exhibited alongside Pablo Picasso and Chaïm Soutin. Paul began the 1930s battling an addition to alcohol, further complicating his chronic health problems. The paintings of 1930s reflect a more somber mood with precise lines and carefully chosen colors and an emphasis of rhythm over motion.
A highly regarded landscape painter, Émile Mangenot painted views of the various regions of France, and in particular scenes in Brittany and Normandy. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he won a silver medal in 1957; in the same year a painting of his was acquired by the State. Although it was not until 1958 that he had his first one-man show, at the Galerie André Weil in Paris, it was followed by several more in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Brandeis was a prolific painter, and often replicated her most popular subjects with only slight variations. She was represented in Venice at the photographer Naya’s studios in Piazza San Marco and in Campo San Maurizio and in Florence she collaborated with the picture dealer Giovanni Masini. During this period of intense activity painting landscapes en plein air and genre scenes, Brandeis also is documented in De Gubernatis as a painter of religious altarpieces. Several of these altarpieces can be found on the Island of Korcula in Croatia. Two are visible in the parish church of Smokvici and of in the church of St. Vitus in Blato. In 1899, for the main altar of the chapel of St. Luke in the Korcula town cemetery, Brandeis painted a St. Luke, which shows the sparkling colors and free impasto typical of her plein air oil paintings.
