RUH Staff and Volunteer Exhibition 2017 Entry guidelines Art at the Heart is the on-going arts programme for RUH Bath NHS Trust. Since 2001, the Art at the Heart programme has been working to improve patient well-being and the working lives of staff at the hospital by enhancing patient environments, boosting staff morale and providing opportunities for positive involvement. With over 4,800 staff and volunteers at the RUH there is sure to be a great pool of artistic talent waiting to be revealed. Art at the Heart would like to support these abilities by encouraging staff and volunteers to share their work with other staff and members of the public in our Staff and Volunteer art exhibition 2017. The exhibition will be held in the Central Gallery and will be open from 20th October 2017 – 18th January 2018 and will be seen by many of the thousands of patients, visitors and staff who pass through the RUH every day.

Deadline and venue for delivery of work 9AM – 10AM on Monday 16th October 2017 in the Lansdown foyer, Royal United Hospital, Bath (or by prior arrangement) No late submissions will be accepted. You must submit only your OWN work; another person’s work passed off as your own will be removed from the exhibition. You may, however, use a pseudonym for display purposes, as long as your own name and contact details are used on the entry label.
Content There will be no theme guiding the selection panel’s first choice. However, as mentioned only content deemed appropriate by the panel will be selected for inclusion in the art exhibition. Preferably work should have been created in the last two years and must not have been previously shown at the RUH.
Presentation The majority of artworks (drawing, watercolours, prints etc.) must be framed behind glass. If you wish to submit a canvas or unframed piece of work, they should be treated with a fire retardant, such as http://www.fireproofspray.co.uk/flametect-c-natural-materials-47-p.asp ALL work MUST be submitted with an identifying label securely attached to the back of the work - the label can be found at the end of this information sheet and another must be attached at the back by string to hang 6in/15cm over the front from the top.
Hanging System Art at the Heart hangs all work using the ‘Beta’ system. This consists of a horizontal top rail and vertical rigid metal hangers. The hangers are secured to the top rail and pictures are secured to fixings on the hangers. For more information please visit: http://www.picturehangingsystems.co.uk/index.php/hanging-systems/beta/
ALL artwork must be supplied with D-rings attached. Make sure that your frames will accommodate D-rings before you frame your work i.e. wooden rather than metal. The best D-rings are those with double screw holes attached to the back of the frame and the minimum size of the D-rings must be 18mm wide. Most frames under 75cm width only require 1 D-ring attached to the exact centre of the top of the frame and inverted so that the ring falls below the screw holes – this ensures the hook is hidden from view. Frames above 75cm width should ideally have 2 D-rings attached to the sides of the frame. Please see the attached sketch below:
Selling work We will waiver the normal group submission fee for Staff and Volunteers to take part, however we do request that all work submitted must be offered for sale. The price of your work should be included on your entry form, which is at the end of this document. Please note that one third of the sale price of each work sold will go back into the Art at the Heart programme to improve the environment of the hospital for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors. Art at the Heart will arrange all sales directly with the buyer. If you have any questions about entering the Staff and Volunteer art exhibition, please don’t hesitate to contact the Exhibitions Manager, Tony Smith tonysmith3@nhs.net or Marketing and Programme Support Officer, Jessica Shoemack jessicashoemack@nhs.net To learn more about our Arts charity, please visit www.artatruh.org
