Welcome to the Art & Beyond Publications special issue dedicated to Photography and Digital Art. For more than a century Photography has been part of the fine arts and has played a huge role in shaping the way we see the world around us. In today’s fast passed life and growing technology the use of the computer applications gave artists a power to create something that was never possible before. By saying that we are thrived to share with you a great article "The Digital Process and Fine Art" by an amazing artist, exhibition curator and educator, Vered Galor. This article is a conversation on the Digital Photography she stared on the pages of Art & Beyond in the previous Special Issue in 2016. We at Art & Beyond proud to highlight the great photographers and digital artists who create today and showcase the beauty of their work.

s I revisit the subject of Digital Photography and Art I have to point out, that digital photography have changed of course, but so is almost everything around us, it is all going digital. We are in a time of software industrial revolution where our traditional industries are being disrupted and revolutionized by artificial intelligence and computers. Our cars, our Healthcare, our Energy and even Agriculture are all handled differently and digitally, making life easier healthier and longer.
communicating the idea, massage or image to the viewer. Then there is at least one step of it, which is digital. If we don’t create the artwork digitally, or do the printing with a digital file, then we definitely communicate and sale it with the help of the digital process. The new applications have made it easier, shorter and more accessible. In photography, the cell phone is a good example and I will not relate to the selfis. It is the quality of the cell phone camera and the lens, which are surprisingly good.
So what does it has to do with Art and how does it affect the creative process of Art making. It does not affect it, and it does at the same time.
In other art fields, the printing step has become shorter and quicker. And the galleries are all on the Internet with websites that can show the artworks, all over the world with quality and quantity.
As I said before; art is created conceptually, emotionally and intellectually in the artist’s mind and heart. He/she puts his spirit and soul in his creation.
One thing has not changed and never will; it is the artist’s relationship to his creation. It is a part of who he is, what he does and why he does it.
So what does the digital part has to do with it? Nothing and everything!
After everything has been said and done; Art in all its forms, is still the Legacy of Humanity
The digital applications are an integral part of our life today and parts of many processes we are using with our art making.
That will never change.

Nancy’s passion is capturing the singular aspects of geographical regions, international cultures and natural settings that possess a unique sense of beauty. India, Mexico, Ethiopia, Bhutan, Nigeria, Galapagos, Costa Rica and Nepal are just some of the countries where she shot her most recent series of portraits and landscapes. Her images have won numerous awards, including First Prize at the ipa Family of Man 2016. She exhibited at the Coral Gables Museum’s
Capturing Coral Gables; and displayed a collection of large metal photographic prints at Spectrum in the Design District during Art Basel 2018. Nancy has recently been selected as a Featured Artist in the American Airlines terminal at MIA, showcasing two exhibitions of seven photos each, spring/summer 2019.

Susanne Belcher
REFLECTIONS IN A PUDDLE. Digital Photography, 45" x 37.5"
Susanne Belcher, a native Californian, and award winning mixed media semi-abstract artist, began incorporating photography into her paintings and collages several years ago. Her experimentation with transparency film, scanning images, layering, overlaying and collaging these elements into her creations extended her visual language. Her images, always compelling, whether minimal or complex, retain a consistent emotional narrative component that is
unique, sophisticated and often surreal and mysterious. Her innate ability to distill images through layers of reduction and compilation in mixed media provided a natural transition to digital photography. She has exhibited in Germany and galleries throughout So. California in both solo and group exhibitions since 1991. The recipient of numerous awards, her work is held in private and corporate collections in the U.S. and Europe. She was a founding partner and

represented artist of the former Abbot Kinney Art Gallery (Venice, CA), is currently represented by Los Angeles Center for Digital Art (LACDA) and continues to be a featured artist at Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts Gallery (DTLA). She is an active member of Women Painters West, Thousand Oaks Art Association, California Art League and currently sits on the Board of Collage Artists of America and The Fine Arts Club of Pasadena. She is also co-author of an art/nature essay book “Looking for 527” about the journeys of a Yellowstone Wolf killed in
2009 during the first Montana wolf hunt (available on Amazon.com where all royalties go directly to YPF). Her current work continues to be impacted by her interest in architecture, her background in psychology, love of nature, sustainability, symbolism and things spiritual. My work begins as carefully framed photos taken from daily, walking around reality. Without changing the resulting compositions, I digitally recolor them along the areas of tonality, and light and shadow already in the picture. The result is an image which appears to be an abstract painting, generally unrecognizable as taken directly
from reality. I call the process Photo/Painting Alchemy. Living in Manhattan and going to the museums and galleries there for 25 years exposed me to a tremendous variety of artistic expression. As an artist myself I wished to be able to create abstract images in as wide a variety of styles. The decision to combine my

painting and photography skills lead to the birth of Photo/ Painting Alchemy. Rather than repeat myself I prefer to keep exploring the possibilities of my process, each new image should be a new visual adventure. I’m calling this current body of work, “Imaginarium”, which is a place dedicated to stimulating and cultivating the imagination. I want my work to inspire the types of experiences I had while visiting museums and galleries, where my imagination was super-stimulated, hopefully for others to experience and enjoy. tayloroliver.com

I am a professional scientist, but my genetic makeup always pushed me to the artistic world. I preferred company of artists to the company of peers, which even manifested in my choice of spouses. So, being immersed in the artistic world all my life, I finally realized I needed to let my personal artistic juices out. And allow visceral part of me to kick in and get out. As a scientist, I thought it will be a good idea to find a balance between cognitive and visceral sides. Hence, I decided to use opto-electronic approach to create images never existed before. But building blocks for creating these novel images are everyday very familiar objects. The closest definition for the final images will be ‘digital still-video’. The reason for that is that either the object involved in the creation of image is moving, or the imaging device, or both. When creating an image, I seek, by transformation, to reveal in objects of everyday life what they can be, or manifest, given they are brought in motion, which is not particularly pertinent to their nature. So, it’s the opposite of what I try to do as a scientist, where molecular motion at nanoscopic level is translated into steady-state observations with opto-electronic devices. I hope the approach to creating my images results in new and unexpected visual creations enriching viewers with new emotions and thoughts.

My life is a cascade of transitions, transformations, and quite unobvious and unpredictable revelations regarding what I was, am, and/or potentially can be. There are several examples of that throughout my lifespan. The pertinent one is that I started my adult life as a Ph.D. in Biophysics and may retire as an ‘artist’. Galina Kovshilovsky Inspired by art, acting by heart, sending ocean love to people of earth. Galina makes Kombucha! ... and she knows that she makes things happened. Galina calls herself as a wonder and traveler in Time and S pace. She was born in Kaluga, Russia - the city where the grandfather of rocketry, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky lived and invented the rocket theory. Galina's art work " Eye of Fertility" is the reflection of the Big Bang eruption, 10-43 seconds, where the universe begins with a cataclysm that generates space and time, as well as all the matter and energy the universe will ever hold. For an incomprehensibly small fraction of a second, the universe is an infinitely dense, hot fireball. The prevailing theory describes a peculiar form of energy that can suddenly push out the fabric of space. At 10-35 to 10-33 seconds a runaway process called "Inflation" causes a vast expansion of space filled with this energy. The inflationary period is stopped only when this energy is transformed into matter and energy as we know it. She believes that we all belong to this hot fireball. Over the years, Galina's master degree in Computer Science transformed into her passion to high technology, where her knowledge utilized for the digital media services in entertainment industry.

"Goddesses of Nature" is an ongoing photo project celebrating the beauty, wisdom, and mystery of the divine feminine whose true essence lies in a deep connection with Mother Nature. In my interpretation, the Goddess is a metaphor of Nature and every woman's soul - be she Native American, African-American or Caucasian, model-thin or Rubenesque, be she a little girl, a teen girl or a woman - as well as being a metaphor for their mysterious, loving, light-bearing divine essence. In my photographs, the subjects not only join with Nature, they are part of Nature. They not only speak to the trees and flowers, they are in union with them. I see every woman as beautiful! I believe that women in our everyday life have natural, unique, individual beauty in themselves ? not matter their size, shape or age; therefore, I photograph real, everyday women, not professional models. I do not use Photoshop to create or merge images as is popular in the artistic world today. My images are actual photographs of young girls and women in actual natural settings representing my ideas about our one-ness with Nature. Wendy Coco Once a featured artist of The Queer Gallery, Wendy Coco is a photographer who specializes in capturing the images of the living world. Born in Maine she first used her camera to capture images of rural living. In 2002 she moved to Western Massachusetts where she began exploring her interest in the arts and in floral photography. As a Social Worker Wendy quickly found a way to combine her love of photography and her 20 year experience in housing the homeless to capture the reality of living today. She has been blessed with the opportunity to meet thousands of people around the country who are struggling under the weight of poverty. Natalya B. Parris Her camera is Natalya B. Parris’s third hand. It is essential for Ms. Parris to capture life’s precious moments. The camera is her companion in travel where she photographs unique places, people and nature. She looks at things that some people might find ordinary from a different angle and shows with her camera that there is no such thing as “the wonted places;” it is how you look at them.
