The artwork I am sharing is an imitation of a broken Ming Porcelain a friend gave to me. We shared our experiences of being Chinese descendents in Indonesia, and how to cherish our tradition. Inspired by joss paper, which my family still uses, I am aiming to make the likeness of porcelain from Tyvek paper as a symbolic gesture towards my ancestors, and to connect with them in my own way.

The past year for me, as an artist, gave an opportunity to rethink my practice and process. Although the current situation has forced us to do everything online, it does not mean that I have to adapt my medium towards the digital. Instead, it made me yearn for tangible results in my work. This is similar to my longing for visiting public spaces, enjoying artworks at the gallery, and meeting people in the flesh. After all, we need something more than just an electronic screen.
