Herewith I proudly present

Art & Pictures Magazine | Meet the artist One and a half year ago I started this great adventure; online gallery Art & Pictures. It’s been quite an interesting ride so far. There’s one thing I’m absolutely sure of: I love it, all of it. It’s challenging, educational and it gives me lots of energy. Obviously also sometimes a sleepless night, self-doubt or nerves, but hey, don’t we all when starting up a business on your own. Fortunately I have the privilege of having a supporting group of people around me, a grateful thank you to all of them. Because most of my communication takes place through all the social media channels, I have the feeling I

miss out on a certain audience. So a while ago I came up with the idea of making an online magazine. Not only can you download and browse through it whenever & wherever you like, I can also provide additional information and share not only nice artworks and images but also introduce the wonderful people behind it. I’m proud of having accomplished a really diverse and beautiful collection, a great website and a collaboration with an interesting variety of creatives.

Be inspired!

Meet drone photographer

Hans

hen I came across The Swirl it was love at first sight. The funny thing is, that Hans is in that speed boat operating the drone! Luckily he was interested in working together, his aerials are an amazing addition to Art & Pictures.

working professionally as a photographer.

Hans lives and works in Sweden, near Stockholm and has been photographing since he bought his first SLR-camera over 20 years ago; a Nikon film camera with a zoom lens.

Hans became a passionate landscape photographer, he loves to play with the endless possibilities of creating abstract compositions with the drone. He travels a lot with his wife and two kids and the drone is always with him.

In 2010 he reached a point in his life where something needed to change. He took a bold decision and started

Meet mixed media artist

J

ole and I go back many years and she was one of the first participants in Art & Pictures. Her mixed media artworks are so bright & colorful. Jole definitely developed her own distinctive style, how special is that.

6 | A&P Magazine

After successfully completing no less than 2 studies Jole decided she’d rather be an artist and switched careers. She makes modern pop art portraits of people, things and theme’s. Jole applies mixed-media to her portraits; a combination of digital photo art and a handmade drawing of the portrait. She uses different techniques such as acryl paint,

Jole printing and silkscreen. Her free work comprises of series of portraits painted on a printed background consisting of manipulated images from art history, printed media, advertising, texts, pictures and clothing fabrics. With the background of the painting she gives information in an unexpected way.

Meet fine art photographer

Marie-Claire

W Fingertip II | Edition of 14 | Framed, glass 70 X 70 € 1200 | Framed, museum glass € 1265

hen Marie-Claire approached me I was already an admirer of her work, as if nature poses especially for her. I’m so proud to have her work in my gallery, she’s truly a rising star with a mission. Marie-Claire turned to photography in 2013 in order to share her passion for nature and wildlife. She took her photography to a next level by studying the camera and soon felt completely at ease using and playing with the camera to capture nature the way she experienced it. Marie-Claire uses her photographs to tell the story she wants to share and herewith fulfil her personal desire to commit herself to the preservation of nature.

‘My personal preference is to work with anything that moves; wind, water, wildlife. And with soft magical light that creates the pastel tones I am looking for.’ Left: Frisian Horse(s) | Edition of 14 | Framed, glass 70 X 70 € 1200 | Framed, museum glass € 1265 Right: Frisian Stallion | Edition of 14 | Framed, glass 70 X 70 € 1200 | Framed, museum glass € 1265

Meet nature photographer

Arie

A

rie and I grew up in the same area and only recently I discovered he’s a brilliant nature photographer. Through his work he is able to share his intimate encounters with nature. So happy to have him on board with Art & Pictures.

1.

At a young age Arie was already overwhelmed by the unspoiled beauty of nature. Eager to capture this beauty, especially animals, on film he bought his first camera at the age of fifteen. He got better and discovered more and more beautiful places, first in the Netherlands, then also abroad. That led to a first exhibition, a first presentation about photography and the first newspaper article about his work.

2.

His gear ánd photographs still get better. Arie shares his knowledge and enthusiasm through workshops, he writes articles about photography and his work is frequently published and exhibited.

Meet inspired artist

Karlien

K

arlien’s work is so vibrant & cheerful, like the artist herself. We only met half a year ago but I feel a really nice connection with her. It’s a great pleasure to know and work with Karlien.

Amsterdam life, the art academy and the city buzz were the start of Karlien’s career in visual arts. Her studio is like a laboratory of images, where she works every day with energy and passion. The Sky is the Limit

She loves to experiment with all kinds of materials and mixes her acrylic paint with energy and playful jeu. Karlien gives Burgundian scenes a modern, fresh coat and there’s always a touch of humor to be found in her work.

She translates the images that pop up in her head on to the linen, pure and intuitive. That is her strength and is characteristic for her work. Karlien’s portraits are Limited Editions, available in 3 sizes. Girl 2

Meet fashion photographer

Nicolas

T

he first thing I noticed in Nicolas’ photography is the fun factor. The Au Maroc series however is just... magical. He knows exactly how to get that unexpected and offbeat angle in his work. It’s a privilege to work with Nicolas.

Fashion photographer Nicolas works and lives in Paris. He was born in Belgium and moved to Paris at the age of seventeen with the ambition to become an artistic photographer, just like his mother. He worked with several famous photographers and learned many skills, especially the ones regarding staged fashion photography and the amazing combination of extreme timing, profound details and humour. Each of his photographs is an invitation to lightness, an ode to colours and show a true mastery of photography sessions: from the studios to the desert, from the swimming pool to the interiors, Nicolas’ playground has no borders.

Meet creative artist

Loui

L

oui’s drawings are so cool and his work is so comprehensive and diverse, it’s almost too hard to believe all this creativity comes from one and the same person. He just joined Art & Pictures, so welcome Loui!

Loui is from Queensland, Australia and he is a self-represented full time artist. He primarily likes to work with ink on paper, but is also versed with oils and acrylics and enjoys making and using collage. Loui has drawn since childhood and as other children stop at some point, he never did. He draws every single day filling books with ideas, cartoons and drawings. So his drawing abilities seem to have developed in natural progression giving him the ability to freely use a number of distinct styles and approaches. Loui studied commercial and graphic art and holds an advanced certificate in visual communication.

Meet nature photographer

Menno

M

enno’s work I found through his picture of the Horse of Marken, a remarkable Dutch lighthouse. I’m really fond of his work and the depth in his pictures is amazing. I’m happy he is with Art & Pictures since the beginning.

Menno at work

Menno is an all-round photographer who loves to be outdoors in nature, in good weather or in bad. Birds and mammals have his main interest. It is very important to him to take the pictures of the wild animals in their natural habitat.

3.

1.

He also does other subjects of photography, like landscapes, autosport and portraits. Menno became interested in photography a long time ago, when his mother bought the first digital camera he immediately knew that’s what he wanted too. Since the first day he bought a camera, he is hooked. 2.

Meet fashion photographer

Sime

T

he beautiful & lovely model Tanja introduced me to Sime and his black & white fashion photography. His work is so cool. ‘Take me to Church’ is one of my favourites, a bit mysterious and so elegant, significant for his photography. 1.

Fashion photographer Sime, currently living in Paris, France, was born in Croatia. After his study at architecture school he discovered photography when working as a model.

Numerous black & white photographs have been published in fashion magazines and he has participated in major advertising campaigns.

Sime has since developed into a successful fashion photographer and participated in many exhibitions. His brilliant photography is extremely sensual but sophisticated.

Through exclusive use of black & white, using perfectly mastered natural light, his photographs reveal the beauty of the models.

y neighbour pointed me in the direction of Maaike and the woven portraits she had made of famous photographs by Steve McCurry and later also Mario Gerth. I was immediately smitten with the warm colourful woven fabric. Brilliant & beautiful. Maaike is a photo stylist and makes beautiful images for fashion series for a variety of magazines and clients. She’s also a teacher of photo-

styling and trend forecast at a fashion academy in Amsterdam. Maaike has a true passion for photography and for quite some time she’s an admirer of the work of American photographer Steve McCurry and German photographer Mario Gerth. Both McCurry and Gerth make beautiful, intimate and impressive portraits. Maaike has had converted 2 colourful portraits by McCurry and 2 black & white portraits by Gerth into a fine woven fabric, stretched on a wooden frame.
