Bahrain, an island of art

With a range of annual art-based festivities and fairs like the Bahrain Fine Arts Exhibition, and galleries starting to host a series of events and workshops, there has never been a more inviting time for art-enthusiasts to check out the emerging Bahraini art & culture scene. 2014 was declared ‘Our Year of Art’ in Bahrain and in 2013, Manama was chosen as the Arab Capital of Tourism. These developments coupled with the hosting of international events such as the Formula 1 race have put Bahrain on the global events map and the time is now to capitalize on this interest. ArtBahrain is a celebration of a history and culture rooted in artistic expression and is designed to showcase the very best the country has to offer and bring to Bahrain the very best from all over the globe! This one-of-a-kind event aims to collaboratively stimulate creativity, opportunity and the local arts industry. It will be the endeavour of ArtBahrain to carve its own niche as an international fair to be reckoned with, hosting diverse talent from across the globe whilst promoting home-grown talent and giving them both a platform to shine.

What is ArtBahrain?

ArtBahrain aspires to bring international art, artists, and collectors, to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The reciprocation will play a pivotal role in the success of ArtBahrain. ArtBahrain aims to give emerging and established artists a common platform to synergise, interact, learn, develop, and grow with the common goal of motivating a large audience towards the arts. Forming its own niche, ArtBahrain will be housed in a grand marquee, 50 metres in diameter, featuring artists pavilions, galleries, a lifestyle section, and a lounge.

10 Who is ArtBahrain for?

The event aims to be a common platform for both collectors and buyers, who will find it both educational and inspiring. ArtBahrain is a unique perspective of each individual’s sense and sensibility in terms of what art means to them. ArtBahrain aims to traverse borders by not only hosting and showcasing international talent, but by connecting various schools of thought under one roof to exchange ideas and inspire others. ArtBahrain will also offer participants the opportunity to not only enhance their exposure, but broaden their scope of presence and influence in the Kingdom and in the region.

12 The Artist’s Arena

Created by PICO Bahrain, the Kingdom’s largest events company, the Pico artist’s arena strives to be the ultimate venue solution to encapsulate the essence of ArtBahrain. Both contemporary and artistic, the arena will be the focal point of ArtBahrain. Crisp, clean design with white interiors, the arena exudes creativity in a minimalistic form from the outside. Inside the arena, visitors will find an explosion of media and colour from the participant’s masterpieces. Visitors will discover artist galleries encircling the main arena, while the Bahraini pavilion takes centre stage. Venturing off into the secondary marquees, visitors will discover the workshop and forum platform on one side of the venue where discussions and interactive sessions will take place. The Art Cafe and Art Lounge focused on providing comfort and leisure for visitors will be found on the other end. The specialised Durrah pavilion where visitors will be treated to a range of luxury home ware will be found across the main arena entrance.

14 The Workshop Hub

On the agenda at ArtBahrain will be a series of interactive workshops and forums conducted by experts. Art investors of various backgrounds will share their first-hand experiences to visitors on art collecting, art appreciation and other pertinent topics, with the goal of elevating awareness of the industry.

16 The Durrah Pavilion

Visitors to ArtBahrain can also enjoy hospitality at the Durrah pavilion, hosted by the local luxury lifestyle magazine.

The essence of luxury and innovation

Durrah magazine aims to set luxury lifestyle trends in the region while reflecting them at an international scale. The publication, unique in style, format, and content, fuses tradition and modernism that is synonymous with Arabian identity. Durrah has emerged from the Kingdom to provide readers of the GCC with the latest articles in trending topics in the region from travel, fashion, culture and heritage, while offering interviews from inspiring icons in the Arabian Gulf. The pavilion will stay true to the publication’s essence of providing readers with intellectual and aesthetic luxury, and will display an exquisite range of luxury home living pieces by some of the finest international designers.

The Art Lounge

Another salient feature of ArtBahrain will be the Art lounge, which aims to be an interactive platform, both social and cultural, encompassing a bookshop, an art supplies stockist, and an artists working arena. It features a spacious seating plan and work space, in efforts to encourage visitors to create their own comfort zone.

18 Marketing Campaign

ArtBahrain will shine the spotlight on participating artist’s

ArtBahrain will be promoted through a comprehensive marketing campaign, incorporating print, online, and social media as well as valuable media partnerships. This robust program will be geared towards collectors, curators, gallerists and other art professionals with a strong focus on the GCC and its rich community of art aficionados. Billboards and other outdoor promotional platforms will be utilized to spread the word across the Kingdom ensuring a broad scope of awareness of ArtBahrain and the strong impact it aspires to convey to the general public. A social media program has been designed to support the advertising and marketing campaign while involving the community in the development of ArtBahrain. We will endeavor to have an active presence on Facebook and Instagram both leading up to and during the Fair.

20 Art Select

An initiative designed to encourage and advise individuals and companies on art as an investment, Art Select showcases the work of many of the most exciting and talented artists from South Asia and the Middle East through the hosting of regular exhibitions. Founded in Bahrain in 2008, Art Select has thrived on the strength, commitment and private passion of Kanika Subberwal, an art collector and consultant.
