Editor’s Note
Antoine Verglas and I met one random night in Manhattan in the summer of 2023 . I had seen his famous portraits of supermodels and beautiful women many years prior, and has always admired his talent. But getting to know the person behind the lens, you find a unique artist whose passion for all things beautiful is what makes the world a better place. Verglas is suave, has a boho chic approach to life, lives between New York City, The Hamptons, and St. Barths.
For us in Art Bodega, it is easy to contemplate the beauty of the portraits of this excellent artist. He is indeed considered the #1 photographer in fashion photography worldwide. Many fashion designers that I know personally, including Iconic Nicole Miller extolled his virtues and his prowess. “Some of our best shots were taken by Antoine Verglas.” In this issue he photographed NYC choreographer and stylish Patricia Noworol, New York Developer Ian Reisner, and television personality and construction doyenne Barbara Kavovit. Even Coco, his tiny dog couldn’t stay away from the cameras.
This edition is also very special as we are showcasing other stylish celebrities, including Miller, beauty mogul Peter Thomas Roth and Sex & The City creator Candace Bushnell. We also have the spectacular First Lady of Philanthropy Jean Shafiroff, our first ever EQ Pre-Circuit Magazine by our Equestrian Editor, Shereen Fuqua and the most beautiful stories regarding horses.
Another crucial feature is the Miami Beach Polo with Melissa Ganzi, Nic Roldan, Tito Gaudenzi and Grant Ganzi. Great photos by the uber talented photographer Kike San Martin. Another fantastic issue, done with Style for the sake of Elegance and Style!

Art at THE MET
Siena: The Rise of Painting, 1300–1350 examines an exceptional moment at the dawn of the Italian Renaissance and the pivotal role of Sienese artists—including Duccio, Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti, and Simone Martini—in defining Western painting. In the decades leading up to the catastrophic onset of the plague around 1350, Siena was the site of phenomenal artistic innovation and activity.
While Florence is often positioned as the center of the Renaissance, this presentation offers a fresh perspective on the importance of Siena.Drawing on the outstanding collections of The Met and the National Gallery, London, as well as rare loans from dozens of other major lenders, the exhibition will include more than 100 works by a remarkable group of Sienese artists.

For “The Icons Issue” we invited the talented and brilliant skincare mogul Peter Thomas Roth, a big supporter of many philanthropic causes and a resident of Manhattan. Often, Peter is seen at charity events in the Big Apple, surrounded by friends and family who are part of the philanthropic world that makes this place so unique.
On one occasion, Peter was accompanied by his good friends, fashion designer Nicole Miller and Sex & The City creator, writer Candace Bushnell. It struck me that they symbolize the magic of this wonderful town, creators of unique ideas that have crossed the boundaries to become worldwide icons. Beloved by their fans and admirers, having them in one artistic location, Artechouse in Manhattan, was truly a dream come true.
We interviewed the beauty mogul to give you an inside look at his life.
What was so vital in your upbringing that made you get into the skincare industry?
“My grandparents owned a spa in Hungary and people would come from all over to soak in the mineral-rich thermal springs there. Coming from a family that took skin care seriously, I always knew I would go in that direction. However, what really pushed me to create my own skin care line was when I developed acne. I had acne as a teenager and an adult (still do!) and could not find products that worked. I started my skin care line because I wanted effective products to treat my personal skin concerns.”
Describe your company.
“My philosophy is simple: Breakthrough formulas. Astonishing results. I lead all research and development at my state-of-the-art lab and manufacturing facility, where I work with my chemists to ensure my products are the highest quality. I always use the most effective ingredients at the maximum strength possible and source ingredients from all over the world to give you flawless, brighter, clearer, younger-looking skin.”
The secret of your success.
“Slow and steady wins the race—never be the rabbit, always be the turtle! In my experience, being thorough and detail-oriented yields the best outcome, especially when it comes to creating the perfect formula. When developing my skin care products, I work closely with my chemists to determine the ideal amount, ratio
and preparation of ingredients. We also do extensive global research to stay ahead of the curve on emerging ingredient, packaging and marketing trends. I take the time to get it right because customer satisfaction is my number one priority.”
Also, something people don’t know about you.
“I love to collect art, visit museums and learn about artists—it’s so interesting, learning about an artist and then seeing something they’ve done in real life. Even if an artist like Renoir or Warhol has been gone for decades, their art remains and still provides such a visceral experience.”
Why is philanthropy so important to you?
“There are so many kind deeds to be done and research to be funded, that our government cannot do it all. Philanthropic organizations help immensely. It’s important to support charitable foundations with causes that are near and dear to oneself, so that they can concentrate their time and money on funding independent research and cures for the so many diseases that aren’t being funded enough.”
Describe an excellent episode while entertaining, a fond memory.
“Years ago, I had a huge party, realized my entire stove and oven went out, and had to use my neighbor’s kitchen. Thank goodness I invited them!”
You are stylish. What makes a person stand out in luxury or what makes them stylish?
“Everyone has their own style! However, I think the most stylish people are those who are comfortable and confident in what they’re wearing. Stay true to who you are and no matter what style you choose, you’ll look fabulous.”
You love art, collect art. Why is art so important to you?
“I love art and started collecting art from a lot of my friends, such as Hunt Slonem, Marc Dennis, Peter Tunney, Carole Feuerman, Romero Britto, Sharon Stone and Mr. Brainwash. Art is important to me because it’s always inspired me. I love Impressionist as well as Contemporary art. I also enjoy creating my own art! Since I was young, I’ve been into drawing, painting and designing. I entered my family’s jewelry business and eventually started designing my own jewelry line—I still design Peter Thomas Roth sterling silver jewelry pieces to this day, as well as handbags. I designed my skin care line in every aspect and still do, and that includes doing all the artwork for my packaging. I design the product labels, fonts and boxes so that the active ingredients and their percentages are right on the front in big font… I was the pioneer of this!
It’s important to me that when my customers pick one of my products off the shelf, they know what they’re getting (even after they throw away the box!) and they know what they are buying.”
Favorite place to spend time while in solitude?
“In my bedroom with my iPad, iPhone and widescreen TV.”
Thoughts on this Art Bodega Photo Shoot?
“It was so much fun doing the photo shoot with your photographer, Nigel Barker. The throwback to the ’60s was genius—Nicole Miller, Candace Bushnell and I had such a blast!”
What are your favorite causes?
“I’m being honored at this year’s Global Lyme Alliance Gala on October 9 at Cipriani 25 Broadway and look forward to raising awareness and financial support for it. Supporting Lyme Disease research is something I’m very passionate about. It’s important that we find a cure because anyone can get this disease—it doesn’t discriminate and it’s incredibly debilitating.”
“I DESIGNED MY SKIN CARE LINE IN EVERY ASPECT AND STILL DO…”

What is style for you?
Style is a state of mind. If you’re confident in what you are wearing it will show through. It’s an expression of individuality.
What is the secret to your success?
I surround myself with the younger generation because it helps me become aware of emerging trends.I always listen to the younger crowd, even if I don’t agree with them. It’s better to be open minded and have a pulse on what’s trending as they are often early adapters and it helps me stay ahead of the curve.
What are your tips for staying youthful?
My tip for staying youthful is to always keep moving. I have a very active lifestyle. I love skiing in the winter and waterskiing in the summer. I go to the gym a lot too. My current obsession is Orange Theory. I’m just as active in my social life constantly traveling, going to art shows, dinners, and other events. In order to maintain my appearance I always say, “Dress for your attitude not your age." And always touch up your grey roots, not that I have any.
Who do you admire?
My Parisian mother had impeccable taste and was the biggest influence in my career. Growing up we would always have French magazines and dolls around the house. She was really discerning and had a strong point of view which I always admired and helped me develop my own voice.
Where is your happy place?
St Barth’s is my happy place. It’s the perfect escape from the hustle of New York City and it gives me an opportunity to practice my French.

IAN REISNER
the Developer that is reshaping New York
Photographed by Antoine Verglas
Styled by Justo Artigas
In the fast-paced world of high-rise development in New York City, the challenges can feel as formidable as the city’s towering skyscrapers. But for real estate developer Ian Reisner, a powerhouse in New York real estate, it’s precisely these challenges that fuel his drive to reshape the city’s skyline.
Reisner’s mission is clear: to transform lives for the better by building spaces that redefine urban living. As he stands atop a building under the lens of renowned fashion photographer Antoine Verglas, he is in his element, immersed in the vibrant rhythm of New York below. Reisner knows every street and major building by heart, his mind functioning like a living real estate map. Born and bred in New York City, he is one of the city’s most innovative developers.
With Reisner, there’s no time for fluff—he’s all about building dreams. “I grew up with a very social mother, sophisticated and impeccably dressed. She taught me about style—she was the doyenne of her time,” he reflects during a meeting over an exquisitely prepared lunch at Nobu 57, nestled within the storied “Billionaires’ Row.”
This iconic area, where Reisner has made his mark over the past 30 years, features some of the most prestigious and expensive properties in New York—and the world.
As he enjoys the exquisite cuisine in the restaurant’s sleek surroundings, Reisner epitomizes the modern cosmopolitan, joined by an impeccably dressed inner circle. His companions, resembling a GQ editorial, exude style and elegance reminiscent of Hollywood icons. Yet, in his world, conversations
swiftly pivot to business; miss a moment, and you’ll find yourself navigating the complexities of his domain. Reisner is a complex thinker, always focused on how architecture and design mesh with history to create the next evolution of a space.
As the founder of Parkview Developers, Reisner has amassed an impressive portfolio of properties, particularly on Billionaires’ Row. His expertise in this coveted area, honed over three decades, gives him a unique edge. “I’m one of the most knowledgeable developers on air rights you’ll find. There are zoning law nuances that savvy New York builders can leverage to maximize value while enhancing livability,” he explains.
From childhood, Reisner’s family instilled in him a deep appreciation for green spaces within the dense urban environment. His father tended a garden, and his grandmother frequented Central Park. “My father taught us to fish and escape into nature, while my mother thrived in social circles. It was a perfect balance,” he shares. This ethos underpins Reisner’s mission to incorporate green spaces into every project he undertakes.
Over the years, Reisner’s ventures have spanned a diverse array of businesses: enhancements to a historic Art Deco apartment tower on Central Park South; two hotels, The Out NYC and Carnegie Hotel; two groundup condominium towers at 505
The dog in the photo is Coco, his owner and dad is the celebrity photographer Antoine Verglas. In this photo, Reisner smiles to the cameras while posing atop the rooftop in Greenwich Village, where Verglas has his photo studio. The skyline behind Reisner is a symbol of power and is what Reisner is most passionate about, real estate.
W 47th Street; XL Nightclub; KTCHN Restaurant; and a beach resort complex in Fire Island National Seashore, 45 minutes east of Manhattan.
For Reisner, the art of building, selling, and leading is woven into his daily routine, complemented by a deep commitment to LGBTQ+ causes. “I’ve contributed significantly to creating spaces for and expanding the rights of my community,” he affirms.
Earlier this year, Reisner sold the Fire Island Pines businesses he had held for the past decade. The Pines has been a summer vacation destination for the LGBTQ+ community for over half a century. Reflecting on the impact of his investment, he shared, “It has been a privilege to help preserve a haven for love, acceptance, and inclusivity. Investing in LGBTQ+ spaces is a tribute to the pioneers who carved them out and those who continue to enjoy them today.” Having experienced the weight of being different, he adds, “I understand how meaningful it is for others to find the acceptance I’ve been fortunate to feel.”
Reisner’s mastery of New York real estate lies in his artful approach to land banking and strategic assemblages. Like a high-stakes game of Monopoly—or Tetris—Reisner doesn’t acquire properties at random. He carefully assembles a winning board. He’s the player who knows that just owning Park Place and Boardwalk isn’t enough. Instead, he strategically acquires parallels like puzzle pieces, each one destined to fit seamlessly into a towering masterpiece that reshapes the skyline.
“Owning key pieces can give you a competitive edge. You may not control every aspect of a project’s success, but with meticulous attention to detail, you can achieve greatness in Manhattan,” he concludes.
“Ian is tenacious, embodying grit, determination, and unwavering persistence,” says one of his peers. In the world of real estate, he stands as a beacon of innovation and commitment, continuously shaping the skyline of New York City.

LAURENT TOURONDEL

Talks food and more….

With a great sense of humor and the expertise in cooking that has made him a household name internationally, one of the most celebrated chefs in America, LaurentTourondel, is a symbol of ulterior achievement. The creator of BLT (Bistro LaurentTourondel) lives and breathes the international culinary scene imbued in him for decades. After 32 years of living in New York City, the French-born chef and resident of Manhattan is able to travel and execute amazing recipes while enjoying the accolades brought to him by his prowess in the kitchen. His intriguing and excellent approach to conceiving unique restaurant concepts is in demand. Here is an Q & A with the creator of the Dune Restaurant, located at L’Auberge in Fort Lauderdale.
Q: What inspired you to enter the world of French gastronomy and how has had it evolved through the years?
A: IstudiedinEnglandandFrance. Ialsotrained asaprivatechef fordifferentcelebritiesforawhile, butIwanted togobacktotherestaurantbusiness. Awealthy investorofferedtoopenarestaurant. At the time,Ihadachievedgreatsuccesswitha50seat restaurantacrossfromtheCarlyleHotel. I was doingtheFrench“gastronomie”,adream come trueforanychef. Butafter20years,I realizedI neededachange. Ineedtofindsomething forthemasses.
I realized the American public loved steakhouses. This is why I decided to go to every steakhouse in NY and LasVegas, and I thought that the concept was interesting. I sat down in front of my computer and started conceiving an idea. I said to myself, it’s interesting; from Smith & Wollensky to any other classic steakhouse, certain elements stood out. The gentlemen from Wall Street smoked cigars or drank a martini, so I decided, why don’t I open the same but a little different? Instead of only offering a pound and a half steak, let me create a smaller version. That way, women will come to my restaurant. Instead of having the white tablecloth, why dont I replace with none, butanice tabletop change it. Also, why not serve rawfishwithseasonal vegetables instead of frozen veggies? That was the creation of BLT STEAK.As I opened my first restaurant, it proliferated into many properties, around22ofthemincludingBLTFish,BLT

Q: How do you define the soul of French cuisine, and how do you embody this?
A: I don’t just cook French. But I do have a base, a root to my style of cooking, which is inherent in you.
Q: Who influenced you?
A: My grandmother was the big influence. When I was young, she would cook for me. We also had a garden; everything was seasonal, and she used all these fresh ingredients. She was a fantastic chef. My mother cooked, my father cooked, and cooking was an all-family affair. From a young age, I made things like chocolate mousse. Also, it happened that I was not a great student; I was in trouble, and at 12 years old, I was fired from a school. I had nowhere to go at 12. A real disaster….. That’s when my father decided to apply to another type of school, either in fashion, administration, or the kitchen. I thought, wow, the kitchen is great, and the rest is history.
Q: Any secret to your success?
A: I have no secret, I share my recipes, write cookbooks, and share on Instagram. I don’t pretend to be the best thing and then not share anything with my followers. At the end of the day, it is about knowing how to make it.
Q: What is distinctive about your technique?
A: I am very strict about what I do and very meticulous; if I don’t find it and I find it until I want, I try to keep adapting. Sometimes, if I don’t make it perfect, I leave it for 2 or 3 months and go
back to it. My concern is how to make it. I never give up. It sounds rough, but sometimes I tell my cooks to do it until they get it perfect. It’s rigidity, perseverance, and meticulousness, and that’s all I want to do as a chef. It’s the consistency of the restaurant. If you are inconsistent, people will stop coming to your restaurant. Also, to keep longevity, you have to reinvent yourself.
Q: If you were stranded in an island and you would have to decide on one dish, what would it be?
A: One thing I am going to tell you is that I love a good egg sandwich. Like the ones, we order at the corner deli in Manhattan. My favorite… also, the smoked salmon and cream cheese everything bagel that you find at Ross & Daughters. Not everyone knows how to toast the bread. Also, the bialy, the toasted bialy with butter. You toast and smash it cut in half; it’s amazing.
Q: One Chef you really admire?
A: Jean Georges……The Troisgros family in France.
Q: Tell us a little secret about yourself.
A: I love to paint; I’m into modern painting. Right now, I am using a black mineral, which looks cool. Look, I think when you are creating dishes, at your restaurant and at home, it is great, and I always do something different, but I also do not want to think about work all the time. Painting allows me to disconnect while doing it with creativity.

BARBARA KAVOVIT
From books to reality television and beyond, Barbara Kavovit is a one woman show that can create magic in a blink of an eye. Having been raised in the Bronx, Kavovit knew at a young age that she was a go-getter ready to conquer the world.
“I grew up in the Bronx, in a two-bedroom apartment with my parents and my sister. One day, while being just nine years old, my dad came home with 2 by 4”s and said, Barb, grab a hammer we are going to build bunk beds together. I fell in love with the experience…. I truly loved that sense of achievement my Dad instilled in me,” mentioned Kavovit during an interview in a busy restaurant in New York. As she walked into the

room, Kavovit gives a sense of confidence that grabs your attention. She is a mix of Brigitte Bardot with Sophia Loren.
The ever-photogenic Kavovit is usually on the go, but her never ending smile, her warm spirit, and no-nonsense attitude is what makes her stand out.
“Growing up with a sense of accomplishment and determination, how my parents raised us, all those things my Dad taught me in construction and how hard work provided a sense of empowerment that built my self-esteem. There is something tangibly solid about building a structure you can use. The experience provided some sort of self-esteem early on in my life.”
In this photograph Barbara Kavovit holds a hammer as a symbol of independence for women. She has been in the construction business since the 90’s and has renovated the residence of supermodels Amber Valetta and Linda Evangelista in New York City.
For Kavovit, selling has always been part of her DNA. “As a child, I was always selling something at our neighborhood pool in Bronx- snorkels or setting up a lemonade stand. Later on, I graduated with a BS degree in Finance and Economics. My first job on Madison Ave was a junior financial analyst in commodities trading. While working in Manhattan, one weekend I heard my Mom and her friends complaining about the contractors not showing up or their husbands not getting work done around the home. A light bulb went off in my head and I decided to venture in the home improvement business targeting women. I would stand outside a shopping center handing out business cards selling home-improvement services. This is how I got a small client base that would call me to fix and improve various things in their homes. I would look in the local papers to try and find tradesmen to get the job done and make the spread of what I’d charge the homeowner and what the tradesmen would charge me. From that a business was born! Eventually I bought a Ford van and set my sights on cold calling corporations
like Coca Cola, and IBM to sell my contracting services. During this time, in the. 90’s the term Women& Minority Owned Businesses, was created by the New York State Govenor's office. In 1994 I was invited to Albany to visit then Govenor Mario Cuomo who proudly sat me at his desk and I became the first woman to have a certified owned business in construction.”
“I built the largest female construction company. I also created a line of tools ergonomically designed for women, under the brand, Barbara K I flew to Taiwan, allingned myself the largest Taiwannese manufacturer and designed proprietary DIY tools and kits. By this time I had show on QVC and we launched in the window of Bloomingdales. The New York Times Magazine got wind of this after an article came out in the NY Times Style section that eventuall6y landed me as a host of a show on the WE Network called SAVVY and a two book deal with Rodale Press. I ended up signing wih WME and all the hot managers such as Benny Medina, Joe Simpson and Tommy Mottola approached me to represent me. I ended up signing with Joe Simpson.”
Eventually Kavovit got cast on Season 11 of the Real Housewives of New York. I was the only one running a business so I didn’t think I was going to get until one day late August I got a phone call from the executive producer that I was the new housewife. I remember not being that excited at the time, I was so busy, running my $50 million
dollar construction company and working on my third book and first novel “Heels of Steel.”
Overall my experience on Housewives was a positive one but I ended up finding it counterproductive to who I was, admits Kavovit. Imagine being asked film a pedicure scene at 1pm on a Wednesday afternoon with Tinsley when I have 50 guys on jobsite building the offices of a huge corporation? The last thing I wanted to do was have a pedicure at that time of the day. Women don’t live like that anymore, at least not the women I know, I just don’t have time for that. My priorities were just not in sync with that of t he show, especially ridiculing other women.
Demolishing Harvey Weinstein’s offices when he got indicted was a powerful time in my career. I was in charge of wiping away the emotional ghosts of all the women he hurt and I took it very seriously. From that Vogue and The Hollywood Reporter covered the story. “That was empowering for me. Kavovit stated. “Succeeding and failing is part of life. There was a chapter in my life where I had to face bankruptcy. It was hard, and that’s when you know how tough you really are. This is the metaphor of my life, the resilience built from my childhood, a place that made me strong, but also ambitious, hardworking and someone that loves to empower other women.” Hammer in hand, she continues her legacy.

ISAW (NYU Institute for the Study of the Ancient World) presents Madinat al-Zahra: The Radiant Capital of Islamic Spain, the little-told story of the Islamic kingdoms of Europe. The exhibition explores how the Umayyad dynasty, ruling from their capital Madinat al-Zahra (936–1013 CE), transformed the Iberian Peninsula into a bustling hub for scholars, artists, and diplomats from Baghdad to Byzantium. The Umayyads desire to express their power, or al-mulk, led them to forge a thriving cosmopolitan society with international tastes in luxury goods, unique architectural styles that blended Islamic and Classical traditions, and a scientific curiosity of the universe.
Madinat al-Zahra presents over 160 objects from the caliphal capital that showcase how the city was fashioned into one of the gleaming jewels of the Medieval world.
Madinat al-Zahra is curated by Antonio Vallejo Triano, director of the Conjunto Arqueológico Madinat al-Zahra, and Eduardo Manzano Moreno, Research Professor at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas in Madrid. The loans are generously granted from the Conjunto Arqueológico Madinat al-Zahra, Museo Arqueológico y Etnológico de Córdoba, Museo de Jaén, Museo Arqueológico Municipal de Jerez de la Frontera, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the American Numismatic Society, and the Hispanic Society Museum & Library.

mega-yacht 'The Kimberlie'
Palm Beach/ Boca Raton
One of the most successful female Real Estate developers in the country, Kimberlie Glaser makes deals happen day in and out. Originally from Indiana, Glaser was raised by a single mother who instilled in her the importance of hard work. Her high school friends even used to call her “Tony the Tiger” because she was always friendly, lovable, talented, and always looking to help others strive towards achieving their full potential. Glaser travels the country looking for new business opportunities. She has been involved in many different businesses throughout her lucrative career from casinos to car dealerships, but commercial real estate is what she is most passionate about.
Glaser knows how to enjoy life, but also give back. She hosts fundraisers in the Palm Beach area, including cocktails underwritten for several local charities at her 127 feet long mega-yacht
“The Kimberlie” docked in a marina overlooking the serene blue water. She also loves fashion and art and supports charitable events including nonprofits that help single mothers, rescue animals, and other organizations targeting cancer treatment and cure. One of her most endearing charities is St. Jude’s Hospital, which provides treatment to children with cancer. “Having lost my mother and my husband to cancer significantly impacted me to support non-profits in their battle against cancer.”
Palm Beach is not only a place where the wealthiest know how to unwind, while still conducting important business deals, but it is also known as the most charitable city in the country. Hundreds of galas and fundraisers take place here with one important goal, helping others. Surrounded by the ocean, Glaser looks out at the endless possibilities that keeps her going. South Florida is certainly and oasis where she loves to reside and usually gets inspired on new opportunities to improve and expand businesses that help families and a society as a whole.
“My secret path is that I also love finance, I watched the business news cycle constantly and strive to grow my portfolio of businesses, because there is nothing more rewarding than learning from our actions, achieving success is hard work.
THE CORE OF MY CAREER HAS ALWAYS BEEN REAL ESTATE, CAR DEALERSHIPS, GRANITE MINES AND CASINOS.
People think that what I have accumulated in my life has been easy. But no, it is not. I work really, really hard. I am passionate about it, and that is what keeps me going. Makes me feel more beautiful, every single day. Inner beauty is a must, I strive to be successful with my personal accomplishments, but I have also learned to live a quiet life, alongside the excitement of city living. I also dabble in interior design, and care very much about the satisfactory feeling I get by creating a healthy and positive environment around me.”
Glaser is now developing a multi-family facility in Rochester. She lives between the two regions, the Northeast of the United States, and South Florida. “I do love Florida, I love the sunshine, the beach, living a healthy life. I love nature, I love outdoor sports, and even though I do host and attend events wearing the latest trends, I do care about my wellness, my inner peace. Watching the sunset from my terrace gives me peace. Entertaining is also a big deal for me. I love my friends and want them happy, why not be generous in social gatherings?”
The philanthropist also supports charities that rescue animals. “I love nature and animals. I support Furry Friends and Big Dog Ranch Rescue, one of the greatest non-profit organizations in the country regarding dogs. The founder of Big Dog Ranch Rescue is Lauree Simmons. She does an amazing job in rescuing all size dogs and does it with so much love. I truly admire that.”
Other ventures that Glaser has created in the last few years include a cosmetic line, as well as a liquor brand. “I want to delve onto other businesses, but the core of my career has always been real estate, car dealerships, granite mines and casinos. I do love traveling around the cities, scouting the locations I want to acquire, and renovate or develop. At the end of the day, it is all about the creative path to generate business and sell or lease at the best price. I do love corners, with big city lights, where the traffic flows, where I can potentially make a big box corporation deal happen. We did so many of them through the years. It’s been an exciting ride, and nothing is going to slow me down. Nothing ventured, nothing gained…..”

CHLOE D. REID
Celebrated Live Oak International in Ocala
by Rebeca Herrero Photos courtesy of Live Oak International
Chloe is one of those rare equestrian riders that belong to the higher echelon of a quiet riding heritage, fostered by a long history and love of the horse. Her family has been involved in the Equestrian Sport for decades, and she was just a child when she fell in love with horses. “I did start riding horses in Philadelphia, where I grew up. My mother lived in Washington DC and ever since I have not stopped riding as a jumper.”
The event Live Oak is one of those kinds of under the radar horse events in the country that delight young and old. When you arrive to the venue, luscious greenery embarks in the beautiful scenery of Raw Ocala. We called it RAW because its existence has been long and thriving, but in a quiet world of true aficionados of the sport. Be it jumping, horse carriage, which is by the way the chosen sport of her uncle, Chester Weber, and racehorses, here you find the elite of the Equestrian World just north of Orlando.
Florida has a reputation for sunny beaches, the enchanting Everglades, but deep down inside the meadows of the orange harvesting farms, and between those crocodile infested waters, there lies the serenity of the oak trees, cemented in the history of such a wonderful estate.
Instructed and adviced by the Royals of England, Chester Weber alongside Chloe have embarked in such an adventure in American land. To continue to foster the horse carriage, so
beloved by King Phillip after suffering an accident that impaired him while playing polo. It was the King who personally asked Chester to promote horse carriage driving in America.
Nearby the Live Oak venue, there is the building of WEC, Winter Equestrian Center, that indirectly or directly competes with WEF, Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, with its grand stables, with air conditioning facilities, where year round, no matter the clemency of the furious weather, the hurricanes that come and go in September, and the arrival of horse aficionados all over the world, we find the horses that Chloe and Chester love all securely boarded in the subtle and dignified stables at the premises of this international event, Live Oak International.
The spirit here is lively, much a la carte with the environment developed just some miles south by a true dreamer in our childhood memories, Walt Disney; but in this case, it was another dreamer who profoundly loved the horses, Chloe’s grandmother. Chloe phones her constantly to talk about her passion for the horses, her love of these celestial creatures that live and roam free in the land of the Weber family. Controlled yet by grooms that tenderly bathe the mares and the stallions, the horses are the epicenter of this land.
It doesn’t hurt to think that the Webers are one of those rare families that truly are passionate about tradition, mentoring, family values and the yet intricate world of Equestrian living which was inherited to us by the Arabs and the Romans in history. “I always feel like I’m hosting a four-day wedding,” said Chloe D. Reid, who recently celebrated the 33rd Edition of the Live Oak International event that takes place in Ocala every year. She alongside her uncle, Chester Weber have taken the help of the organization of a multi-day event full of parties, riding competitions and glamourous VIP breakfasts, luncheons, and dinners.
“It is overly exciting but extremely exhausting. I am 27 years old; my uncle Chester is one of the most celebrated champions in horse carriage driving, inherited by the passion of Prince Philip from England, and I have focused on horse jumping myself at a very young age. My parents
support me, but I am the only one of many grandchildren that ride horses at a competitive level,” exclaimed the blonde beauty. Reid also competes at WEF (Wellington International).
“My parents have never been interested in riding horses. I think I inherited this from my grandma. She has always had thoroughbred horses. I started riding when I was 4 years old. During a Thanksgiving gathering with the family, we were visiting my grandmother in Ocala and this was probably a deciding factor to the start of my career as a jumper.”
Her riding practices continued near Washington D.C. where the family reside. “My parents had to drive me a lot for my training– I had to sacrifice a lot of socializing at school, no play dates.”
Chloe has also lived in Germany for many years, one hour north of the capital. She has a German boyfriend and they both travel back and forth to be with each other, support each other. “I love what I do, I love Ocala because I feel like I have more space and less pressure. But pressure can be good to get on your competitive side, it is part of the circuit. We travel a lot with horses nationally and internationally.”
“I do think that my grandmother’s impact had a lot to do with following this passion of mine, in becoming a competitive rider. I have been selected to participate in international Grand Prix events in the last two years – I have made the US selection. I can be 12 hours in the barn, to the point that my mother does not understand it. My grandma does, she gets it. I am 100% convinced I got this passion from her.”
Chloe also explained their decision to move to Ocala (her grandmother’s) decades ago. “She was divided between Ocala and Kentucky, since those are the best areas for raising horses. But she loved the weather in Ocala, she did not like the cold winters of Kentucky. That’s the main reason, she just loved the area, ideal for our horses.”
THE #1 POLO PLAYER IN THE WORLD
LIA SALVO
Very few women in Polo excel at the top level, but one is really garnering all the attention around the world. 10-goal polo player in Women’s division, Lia Salvo. The mother of a baby girl called India, Salvo left polo (temporarily) due to the birth of her daughter, but she is currently back on track playing in Argentina. Salvo is one of those ladies that will persevere no matter what, and she is back on the saddle where she belongs, to show her prowess as one of the top female polo players around the world.
As you know, polo player is a sport that depends constantly on the weather, reason why the schedule can change at any moment. Salvo is one of those women that no matter when you call her, any day of the week, any hour of the day, she is probably dealing with her polo ponies. After many days trying to get ahold of Salvo, who lives in Pilar surrounded by her 100 polo ponies that she breeds with her family, the tradition continues for this spectacular young woman who plays equally well with the top male
counterparts like Adolfo Cambiaso o Juan Martin Nero.
But where did it all start for Salvo? “I was 6 or 7 years old playing with my father. I was his shadow, he worked in the country, he was an amateur player and is currently rated as a 6-goal polo player. Hector Salvo is his name. Many people might not know that my dad didn’t want me to play polo. But I loved it so much, my childhood was formed riding a horse. I was always riding a horse,” said during an exclusive phone interview with Art Bodega Magazine.
“My dad struggled with me playing polo, I think he had that male dominant mind, a bit conservative, not very progressive. There were no women playing polo at the time. As much as he wanted me not to do this, I defied him, and continued, and was stubborn about it. Now this is all I do for a living. Play polo,” adds the Argentinian beauty, who works very hard in supporting her household alongside all the players in her life including her husband, who is involved in the daily operation of Pololine, a media platform specializing in polo.
“I live in Pilar but was born in America, a smaller town just four hours west of Pilar. From May
to September, we spend our time in England playing polo. India has a year and a half. It was such a radical change for me. Becoming a mother has changed me, but I bring her to the games, she is now part of my polo world. We also spend time in Singapore, we travel all around the world, playing polo, working. When I started playing at Palermo, it was a deciding moment of my life, I knew I wanted to continue this journey,” said Salvo. She also strives to empower women at all levels, as Female Polo keeps getting stronger, it also keeps growing the awareness, the sponsorship level, the attention of the best patrons.
“One of the things she most enjoys is playing. When she competes in England, she is surrounded by the nobles and royals. Salvo loves the fact they are watching her closely. Makes her proud of the career path she has chosen, but still wants to be on the horse, competing. Kate is watching yes, Camilla is admiring the game, absolutely. Same with the male players including the King. “Feels comfortable to have them close by, it’s our usual practice and nature of the game,” affirms Salvo.
Recently she has been playing with Adolfo Cambiaso’s daughter, Mia Cambiaso. “She has

a bright future. It’s exciting what is about to come. I want to also breed horses that are good for female players, less strong in the sense that it gets harder for women to control them. This is the main reason why we need more of this type of horses on the field, customized to a women’s need.”
From the Shanghai International Tournament she has participated in, as well as tournaments in England and Palermo, the international traveler admires other female polo legends like Nina Clarkin, and Sunny Hale. It is not unusual to see Salvo playing for La Dolfina, a team created by the #1 player in the world, fellow Argentinian Adolfo Cambiaso. Her family is also a big support in Lia’s life. “My mother encouraged me to do things that I would be passionate about like playing the piano, performing hobbies with my mother is an emotional release, also gardening,” admits the polo champion.
But even with these docile pursuits on the side, no one can deny that Salvo is a wild, passionate, adventurous woman that defied her father’s strong perception about women on the field (when she was very young, now they run the business together), becoming the best polo female in the world. Perseverance pays off!
Auctioned through the world’s leading online whisky auction platform, Whisky Auctioneer, 543 bidders from 28 countries placed over 7,000 bids on “Ewan’s Cut”. The auction also saw a 160% increase in monthly registrations. The hammer price reached £119,893, further boosted by £15,107, as Whisky Auctioneer waived its seller’s commission.
Bottle #1 of “Ewan’s Cut” achieved a hammer price of £4,350, setting a new record for the highest price ever paid for a bottle of Arran single malt at auction.
Art Masters
THE ELEGANCE & PASSION OF ARCHITECT AND CULTURAL AMBASSADOR
FROM SPAIN with love TOMÁS ALÍA
By Rebeca Herrero
When you think of Tomas Alia, memories of the artisans that live in the South of Spain populate our whimsical state of mind. A fresh stroke, a refined thread that weaves through your fingers, emerging as this artistic capsule that resonates like a never endless dream, with a drop of never endless hope. For famous Spanish architect and interior designer, Tomas Alia, the dream continues to extrapolate in that sensitive landscape we call art, dreaming of new ventures, spaces and ideas that make our world go round. His designs make a room generate a feeling of a long-lost past that still gravitates towards us in today’s complex and modern world.
For us, it is a true luxury to be able to navigate the land of Spain, so refined, sometimes obscure, but colorful in its past and endurance. Even the Franco era did not annihilate the spirit of the Spaniard, so full of tradition, desire, pleasure for life that reminisces of a nostalgic time when Picasso lived with his lovers, and Dali became a household name synonymous with a surrealistic dream in our unconscious.
Alia told me during an exclusive interview that his desire is to promote the talent of the young and the old, but the artisanal. Like a true master, he compromises his sacrifice of time and money on behalf of that ulterior motive, that one of the true senses of enjoyment and “joie d’ vivre”, exciting the titillating effect of our sight and our brain while creating micro worlds of dreams based on that remote land that seems so far, but yet so close to the Americas. All under the umbrella of his Design and Architectural Studio: Estudio Caramba.
Having an extensive career reshaping the world of design and architecture in Europe and the Middle East, Alia travels from India to Paris. He has built and designed stadiums for the King in Dubai and Qatar, designed the Nobu chain in several countries, and has secured his brand of eponymous fixtures of ultimate luxury all around.
Even the ever-relevant luxury conglomerate Richemont seeks his advice on what is truly beautiful and desired. What truly means to be a part of luxury? Is it the cutting-edge walls and glass windows we glance at during our travels on the Gold Coast from Key West to Savannah, Georgia, along the coastline? Or should it go deeper in our quest for the beautiful finishes and radiant ambiances? Is it ever changing?
For Alia, indeed, it goes far beyond just the details on the compositions of the walls, the texture on the chairs, the wooden and curiously shaped tables, the matte or gloss finish of shelfs, or the embroidery we realize took hours to be woven creating a woman’s hat, skirt, or boots from that glorious day, shining through the vials of culture and tradition. Alia brings his embroidered art he acquires or creates through the hiring of other artists, to his design studio. By exulting the talent of others, he creates a

Recently Alia worked with the famous photographer MarioTestino. “We did exhibitions together in Europe. My idea has always been to evoke the unusual, to create an ambiance that brings you closer to a concept of art and feeling. I’m not a fan of ambiguous, rigid architecture. When we started designing bars in Madrid, they were dark and lost, we added color and atmosphere, we wanted to imbue your senses as well with the taste of the nice food, our roots, our culture. We brought art to hospitality,” mentioned the esteemed Alia while visiting Napoli in Italy. “We are here after organizing an art exhibit. We are finding young and talented individuals while finding some treasures,” concluded Alia.

OPERA ITALIANA IN NEW YORK
CITY’S CENTRAL PARK
“The Serenade at Sunset: Opera for Your Soul” Wows Thousands of first-time listeners and fans of Opera
Opera Italiana is in the Air, a Cultural initiative led by renowned conductor, Founder and Music Director Alvise Casellati hosted an outdoor concert at the Naumberg Bandshell in New York City’s Central Park. This special event was offered free to the public.
Opera Italiana is in the Air is a visionary initiative dedicated to celebrating the beauty and diversity of Italian opera. Maestro Alvise Casellati seeks to inspire a new generation of opera lovers. In 2023, UNESCO, the cultural agency of the United Nations, added Italian Opera Singing to its Intangible Cultural Heritage list for protected status.
In the spirit of the UN General Assembly "High Level Debate" underway in New York, the program for this special evening began with Giuseppe Verdi’s Hymn of the Nations, with the idea of melting national anthems of all countries to demonstrate that music unites everyone, and the Maestro united this piece with the US National Anthem. The enthusiasm for this performance caused a

standing ovation over many parts of this program, notably during the famous piece "Nessun Dorma" by Puccini which ends with the words "I will win".
During the performance, Maestro Casellati took the time to explain how important it is to see new compositions and hire living composers, work with the young musicians and pursue social responsibility projects such that of Opera Italiana working with the Music Therapy Departments of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital and NY Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medicine.
Special guests’ stars included internationally acclaimed American soprano Latonia Moore, and two of the most sought-after young talents: Chinese-Australian tenor Kang Wang and Georgean-Italian bass George Andguladze. Opera Italiana further collaborates again with Juilliard’s Pre-College program.

A workshop was held at the University Club in New York City by Yogmata Keiko Aikawa, the First Female Siddha Master and Himalayan Great Saint who held a unique one-day session where people could come and learn some of the Himalayan teachings from the Siddha master herself.
Born Yamanashi, Japan, 1945, Yogmata Keiko Aikawa has been interested in and practiced yoga, meditation and health regimens since her teenage. Becoming a yoga instructor, she held classes in many culture centers and actively taught asana yoga to thousands of students.
At age 39, Yogmata first met Pilot Babaji, a prominent yoga and meditation master, who had visited Japan for a television program, and following which, he invited her for training in the Himalayas. Yogmata then traveled to the Himalayas and underwent authentic yoga training for the path to enlightenment, eventually achieving Samadhi, the supreme state of yoga and meditation.
Since 1991, Yogmata has now performed Public Samadhi, which is renowned as proof of enlightenment, 18 times in India, to promote world peace. And has received admiration from all over India. In 2016, Yogmata gave a speech, as a guest of honor, at the International Yoga Day event held at the United Nations HQ, upon the request of the Indian government.
She is also renowned as an author and has sold over 1,000,000 copies of her books world-wide.

W I THIN THE
Cash is the blood-flowing pumping element that runs through our veins in the magazine world. Some name it “pay to play”, others understand the significance of documenting history, and many have realized that brand names we take for granted like Goya or Campbell Soup became popular in our psyque due to clever advertising in newspapers and magazines, also television and radio.
Add the fact that we use glossy pages in the paper format brought from China but with the Russian ingredients that create paper (nowadays very expensive thanks to an increase in trade tariffs) resulting in the high prices of paper. Such a costly commodity, but in the end, you have a winning but extremely expensive formula.
Still paper is recycled, and it’s here to stay as a past testament that a Ray Bradbury Novel like narrative cannot even scare us or deter us from the production of print magazines, nor the entrenching feeling and agonizing fear of watching anything like the burning of books. Yes, obliterating this format to a digital one entirely, not happening anytime soon.
Our editor is just doing that, making a compelling Equestrian magazine within our Art Bodega Issue. Shereen Fuqua believes this is a medium that stays like a loyal companion. You document the beauty of the passing of time through the Equestrian Seasons while creating the fanciful and clever photo sessions we conceive. They take time, dedication, patience, and a collective of fashion designers, brilliant minds that command our attention. It also helps the clever contribution and approach of experts in the retail world. We hear from them, we assimilate, and conduct our own assessment. We combine all these ideas to produce a stunning editorial.
ISSUE
Dear Shereen, brilliant mind Shereen, mom that never gives up but beautiful woman that tries to understand the world in a different way. Unique, special and extraordinary Shereen Fuqua. Sometimes misunderstood, yes, but once you watch closely, her actions speak for itself. She truly understands the passing of time, the ephemeral feeling of beauty, and the relevance of taking images, creating art, and documenting history through the eyes of a whimsical almost child-like vision, or simply put, a romantic concept.
I’ve known Shereen Fuqua for many years and have seen her trying to understand the publisher’s perspective, or the business mind behind a product. She has been instrumental in the elaboration of the behind the scenes of riding competition at the top level, because nothing that Shereen does it for the faint at heart. Her prowess as a Dressage rider herself, alongside her husband Jeff Fuqua, facilitated the passion they both have given to their offspring, Equestrian Top Rider, Kat Fuqua. The Legacy lives through their child, a precocious woman who sometimes teaches the adults what to perceive, and who rides to perfection. Like Kat Fuqua, there is a legion or riders, female and male, who follow her steps and who we invite to be a part of this ride. Document your children, tell them how special they are, and cherish those moments because time is fleeting and all that remains is our affection, our human bonds, our love for horses and animals in general, the permanent feeling that places stay, we all grow up, and we look up to heaven, for hope and passion is what makes us feel alive and vibrant.

2024 Olympic year is historic celebrating the successes of Art Bodega’s featured equestrians, German Freddie Wandres, is crowned Team Gold with Hof Kasselman’s Blue Tooth. We applaud all and the rising juniors in horse sport in the next pages. The common thread of youth and trainers who lead them to their dreams is exhilarating to see.
Competing in Wellington with peers from Europe, brings us closer to explore visiting their homes. This issue we feature Driehof, a century old farm renovated to luxury hotel, in Tecklenburg between international dressage Hof Kasselmann home & venue of world class equestrian events, & Ludger Beerbaum Stables at Riesenbeck International. Driehoff is located 20 minutes either way to the Olympic Medalists of Dressage and Show Jumping, both world renowned training stables winning Paris Gold this 2024 in their respective disciplines. The region draws in the best riders and horses in the world for training and competition.
“Why do you keep calling what these kids do, their careers?,” someone once asked. To me it’s obvious. Their passion and dedication are evident in every stride and jump, driven by an unwavering love for the sport and the animals that make it possible. These young athletes are not just honing their skills; they are building a future where their dreams of standing on the podium become a reality. Through countless hours of training, early mornings at the stables, and the invaluable guidance of their mentors, they forge a path that is as inspiring as it is challenging.
The horses have a spell on people that is indescribable. Horses change lives and teach people compassion, strength, self worth, love and commitment. They never ask for anything in return, and reflect back to you the best you can be. Our feature of Athena Lekkas, 18 yo jumper speaks of her riding accident and how after three surgeries she has learned to be cautious to make the best decisions for her,and her horses. The love each of these riders have for their horses shines through each and every day. The bond is never ending. Horses can truly bring people together, whether in Europe or America, whether we speak the same language, we share the love and passion for the animals who give us so much.
Lastly, we congratulate our Wellington winter based German family Michael & Rebecca Klimke with their new born ToniMarie. We can't wait to watch her grow up competing in American sport of hunter ponies!

To meet 18-year-old Athena Lekkas of Elpida Equestrian is to discover a young lady and over achiever to be the best at two vastly different sports. The first blends her love of the ocean and excitement, and at which she excels due to its pure joy; the other a complicated mix of partnership and performance that has revealed a self-expectation for perfection and the challenge to accept setbacks and mistakes as stepping stones towards a goal.
At 6 years of age, Athena dived into surf camp and continued every summer. She volunteered to be trainer’s assistant, working her way up to counselor and this year to camp manager.
“I love teaching little kids, and seeing their smiles,” says Athena, who says it takes patience.
In her second passion, show jumping, Athena has been riding for twelve years after being introduced to horses at a birthday party. This turned into a true connection with equines, from helping younger girls excel in the ponies to jumping in the 1.20M classes in the spectacular International Arenas at the World Equestrian Center, Ocala and Wellington International. But the love of horses has produced pitfalls unmatched by other sports. In 2023, a misjudged distance during the first week of the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington spelled disaster. The fall resulted in an arm and elbow broken in 4 places. “I made a riding error and it was all my fault!”
This humble teenager had her third surgery this month, and it didn’t take her but two months after the accident to get back on and persevere. Before riding, she tried gymnastics but fell and broke her collarbone: scared, she never returned. But her love for her horses kept her rock steady towards her goals. Instead she realized the pressure to succeed got in the way and adjusted her mindset to pave the way for success. After retiring her first 1.20M competition mount, Karthago Di Cambra, she began a new partnership with Picobella de Pot, a strong-minded South American bred mare known affectionately as the ‘spicy hippo.’ They have grown together over a year, making their own 1.20M debut in the summer.
With her eyes on the future, Athena takes her history as strength. Falling off the surf board in the water is dramatically different than hitting the ground from a horse fall, and her experience has brought a mindfulness to make the best decisions for herself and her horse.
As her name suggests, Athena has embraced her Greek and Puerto Rican heritage as part of her brand in Elpida Equestrian. Elpida in Greek means ‘hope,’ and stands as her commitment to never lose site of the positive, the productive, and the promise of equestrian

sport. As a senior in high school, she plans to attend a college near her family, the ocean, and of course her horses, with her ultimate goal being professional success in the industry. Her motto that got her through this healing period: “Recovery is full of ups and downs, there is no such thing as a linear life but I turn my step backs into step ups to come back stronger!”
The following is Athena’s essay of Life's Balance on a Horse & a Surfboard to Success.
No horse trainer, anywhere in the world, has ever said, “That’s good enough.” Showjumping requires a strong partnership between the horse and rider that challenges the rider’s expertise and showcases the horse’s strength, range, speed, agility, and precision. After putting forth our best effort in the show ring, jumping 12 fairly large jumps within the time limit and without knocking down any rails, I received feedback like, “You could have had a bigger step,” “You should have gotten the mare closer to the base,” “Your turns could have been a bit tighter,” and “You could have used your leg more to help the horse avoid the rail.” In showjumping, if you are not efficient with every little detail and your plan walking into that ring, and, at first, I wasn’t as sufficient as I should’ve been, amidst the relentless nitpicking, it’s easy to lose sight of any sense of accomplishment or fulfillment.
Luckily, another lifelong passion of mine helped me balance out my intense focus on reaching a specific goal, making sure I didn’t become too consumed by it. I call it “Wave Jumps,” but it is often called surfing. Riding a wave is about embracing the journey rather than reaching a final goal. The culmination is when the wave breaks at the shore. Because each wave is distinct, perfect execution is impossible. What matters is putting in your best effort, which, for me, meant giving it my all every time I ventured out and mounted the board.
I carried the mindset with me back to the practice ring. I remained dedicated to achieving precision and efficiency, but I also made it a priority to enjoy the process and the journey. The most important lesson I learned in balancing my intense focus and not getting consumed by my goals was to accept that mistakes are inevitable and shouldn’t be feared. Let me be clear; I wasn’t eager to make mistakes. I just needed to avoid being crippled by the fear of imperfection. Overcoming that
Orange dress by Robert Rodriguez, creator of Koltson www.koltson.com
fear allowed me to ride with confidence and a renewed sense of courage. I would attempt something, even if I believed the odds of succeeding on the first try were slim. This fearless mindset frequently pushed me to new heights. I also discovered various ways to share this perspective with others.
As a surf instructor, my role involves teaching kids the fundamentals on the shore, assisting them in the water, and sharing in their excitement when they manage to stand up on the board. Most importantly, I rejoice in their efforts, no matter the result. Surfing has offered me a space where perfection isn’t required—it’s a place where I can relax and make mistakes without fear of repercussions. This sense of security is something I wanted to pass on to the kids, encouraging them to be kind to themselves and appreciate their attempts, even when they fall—advice I needed to embrace myself. It’s surprising to see a perfectionist find value in celebrating imperfections.
There’s nothing like the rush of exerting every ounce of energy to catch a wave, feeling my heart race as I thrust my hands through the water, with only the approaching wave in view. It’s a true test of my abilities— sink or swim. While children often display remarkable bravery, even the most skilled swimmers can find nature’s power overwhelming. The thrill I experience each time I assist a young surfer in catching a wave is so profound that only a masterful writer like Shakespeare or Hemingway could hope to capture its depth.
In short, it has been transformative. I adjusted my approach to nearly every part of my life to recognize that success doesn’t require perfection. However, this hasn’t diminished my drive to continually aim higher. Now, I am much kinder and more supportive of myself—an outcome that feels more than sufficient to me!
The legacy of
Driehof
I have the pleasure of being a guest at Driehof, a German hotel with traditional character. My daughter Kat qualified for the US Equestrian Dressage European Tour last year to compete at FEI CDI Future Champions in Hagen, Germany. I had not traveled from the US since 911. I always felt a little like Dorothy of Wizard of Oz, as there’s no place like home. 2001 was the last year I ventured to Denmark & Germany purchasing horses, and the same year of my mother’s death. She passed away before September 11th, the attack on our country. I lost my motivation to venture out of our country’s safety. For ten years, my daughter Kat competed in hunters, a US sport. So there was no need to look at horses in Europe until she made the US YR Dressage Team.
Now over twenty years later from my original horse purchasing in the late 90s, technology makes it easy to travel with navigation and internet for anything you need and with reduced cell phone fees comparatively speaking. Hotels close to Hagen, Germany and Hof Kasselemann, are booked and sold out due to serious summer training and showing in Europe. We were lucky to get the year old renovated Driehof, luxury hotel suites fifteen minutes away.
Not knowing what to expect, and not interested in a B&B operation, my anxiety was a little high. From the time we arrived, our two story space was above and beyond my expectation. We drove into the beautiful country side, as if we were going back in time a hundred years with the architecture…..then walking into the modern new interior of hardwood
floors, full kitchen with new appliances, exquisite lighting plan that usually only custom homes celebrate, I was surprised. To look across the gorgeous farming landscape for acres and acres all around, the well planned and newly landscaped property with a small lake, nothing could compare.
Meet Dr. Michaela “Mickey” Gallenkamp (of Law), the great-granddaughter, granddaughter and owner of the LandGut Driehof. In 1922 her greatgrandparents, Gerhard & Ilse Schoeller ,purchased the old farm and made it their task to rebuild, which was heavily dilapidated at that time, and fill it with new life. Her great grandfather ran his father’s paper mill then. After the renovation, an administrator was quickly found to get agriculture back on track. The crops produced were used in times of war to feed and secure the basic food for the employees of their family business paper mill in nearby Osnabrück. Upon retirement, her Grandfather, Gerhard Schoeller relocated to Driehof permanently in beautiful Tecklenburg. After their death, their youngest daughter Heide Gallenkamp inherited Driehof. She Mickey’s grandmother was also a partner of the family business, in which her husband, HansGeorg Gallenkamp, managed the family company along with her. Hans-Georg was also consul of the Netherlands. As a result, the Driehof was the official seat of government of the consul at that time.
After the death of Heide Gallenkamp, Mickey took over the property in 2013 with the dream to develop a hotel. And so she and her husband Lars Menebröker, now fourth generation continue the family affair and with their young son, expect five
generations to continue the family legacy of the century old farm land.
Due to this geographically unique location of the LandGuts Driehof in direct vicinity of the nature reserve as well as with direct access to the official premium hiking trails and close proximity to Tecklenburg, the idea of exclusive Life Style Apartments for holiday guests and business customers was quickly born. Luckily for us, and my daughter’s cross training in Show Jumpers, with her trainer Andreas Kreuzer of Olympian Paul Schockemoehle’s sport horse empire nearby, we are able to call Driehof our home while training and competing in Germany now going on three seasons.
With all the competitions nearby at Hof Kasselman world renowned for Dressage horses, and partners with Paul Schockemoehle known for their horse sales, PSI Auctions, coupled with nearby Riesenbeck International, home of multi Olympian Ludger Beerbaum and his horse shows, Driehof is perfectly located to world class international training for both Dressage and Show Jumpers. Even CHIO Aachen is just a couple hours away. Mickey & Lars have found themselves in the Mecca of International Horse Sport. With only nine exclusive luxury suites, Driehof is still a best kept secret to a handful of international clientele. If you plan to visit the area for horse sport participation or spectating to see some of the world’s best riders, make your reservations well in advance! The DRIEHOF was and has always been a matter of the heart for their family over the generations, with the desire to share their piece of heaven. I now say “there’s no place like home, and Driehof is my home!”

“It was supposed to be two friends going to a wedding together but on that first date, I fell in love with her and I knew I would spend the rest of my life with her.
Seriously, I would have asked her immediately to marry me but I thought people might think I was crazy so I waited six months to ask her.” Freddie says with a big smile. His energy when talking about his wife is infectious.
Their love story doesn’t end there. Together, they’ve built their lives around the thing nearest and dearest to them both: the horses. Both fierce competitors in the show ring, this power couple are standouts in their industry, coaching and competing at the top of their sport, even while operating a training business, Messenger Hill Farm, that spans multiple locations across the USA.
They do all this effortlessly and (of course!) in impeccable style. Walking through their farm in Wellington, FL (which they own with friends and dear clients, Joyride EQ), one sees the evidence of their passions outside horses, Ellen Von Unworth and Mario Testino prints on the walls, the latest in French Contemporary design in their home.
But even in all the largeness of their lives, it’s clear to anyone who spends just a few minutes with them, that their days are built and maintained working in the details.
“Our philosophy in training, business, and life is all the same. We make sure all the small things are right. Leave no stone unturned,” Freddie explains. This is evident when you spend time with the Vazquez’s. They are intentional about first impressions, how they present themselves and their farm. Every horse and rider in their program are treated like Olympians, each horse’s day mapped out to the minute. Everything is done with purpose.
It's clear when they speak about the legacy they want leave behind, they’ve given it real thought. Messenger Hill Farm is even named after this idea. The name is a reminder to carry a message of excellence and education to the next generation. A reminder to leave a mark of intention and thoughtfulness on equestrian athletes.
Their students embody these ideals and are dominating classes from beginner through nationally ranked levels. It’s clear that Freddie and Jodi thoroughly enjoy their student’s victories in the ring. There are celebrations going on each weekend at the farm, honoring the hard work put in by all. “We work really hard but I tell my students that there are only two guarantees,” Freddie says with a laugh, “you’re going to spend a lot of money and at some point you’ll

fall off!” With all the seriousness of the business of producing world-class riders, they are quick with smiles and laughs.
When asked what it’s like to train, teach, and run a business in multiple states with your husband, Jodi smiles broadly as she looks at Freddie, “I feel lucky to work every day alongside the love of my life. Who else gets to say that?
We definitely divey up responsibilities, so we don’t step on each other’s toes. But we pride ourselves on making sure we cross all the t’s and dot all the I’s.”
One could expect nothing less from two riders with so many national titles between them. Freddie even stands to represent his native country of Puerto Rico in the 2028 LA Olympics, which would come at no surprise to anyone after finishing just shy of grabbing an Olympic ticket at the last two PanAmerican Games.
These are incredible accomplishments from two people who weren’t born into families who were able to pour infinite recourses into their children to help them pursue Olympicsized dreams.
“I always wanted to be a professional, but it’s a hard business to break into successfully. As a junior and in college, I did every possible job, from teaching, riding, running the barn, driving the horse trailer, cleaning stalls. I learned what it really took to create an environment that could provide the winning edge,” remembers Jodi.
The winning rider needed facilities that could support all needs, a culturally rich and inspiring setting. Everything that Messenger Hill Farm is today. Among other top amenities, the farm boasts the premiere jump field in the area. The 3-acre manicured field attracts Olympic riders and Olympic horses each week during the winter season to come for training. “It’s so nice to be able to share this incredible facility with all our friends. When they come to train on our field and then go win a major class at the horse show days later, I know that we’ve had a part in their success. That’s what it’s really about, the farm being a part of the legacy of the sport. All of us leaving our mark.”
And what greater legacy than for a love story to become the foundation for a whole life of leaving marks of excellence all over Equestrian sport?

Q& A A Life in the Arts
Q: You have been in the latest fashion shows both in the US and Europe. What do you think of the latest trends?
A: I’ve been seeing a lot of crosses between street and high fashion, sporty and elegant that were both accessible and comfortable. The increased diversity of models as well as attendees at the shows are reflective of the increased diversity and crossing of aesthetics in the fashion itself. Some of my favorite trends this year were short shorts, high-rise trousers, transparent skirts, and a boho aesthetic.
Q: You certainly showcase a lifestyle in your Instagram. How do you want to be perceived by your followers? What is your mission?
A: Fashion, art, design, and performing arts are passions of mine that I am eager to share. I’m not on a mission to be an influencer - my private life and art making are too important to me for that, honestly. I’m currently trying to find a balance between sharing the things I love as I travel, go to shows, raise awareness for the causes I go to galas for, and not obsess over it or make it a job for myself. My Instagram is run by me, not by a professional team.
Q: We have talked about your future art projects. What can we expect of your choreography?
A: I’m currently exploring a multimedia dance solo project. I have been meditating on the Heraclitus quote “the only constant is change”. It is a piece about change, renewal, and transformation. It is rooted in a moment in my life where I am reorienting myself and looking inward for a sense of accomplishment, not looking outward. I am giving myself the luxury of time and developing it as feels best. It may live in a performance space or an art gallery.
Q: You mentioned several famous names as inspiration in your field. What particularly strikes you regarding each name and why?
A: The lineages of my training mean a great deal to me. I was a serious ballet student at a young age. Mikhail Baryshnikov and Sylvie Guillem are dancers who started in ballet and transcended multiple genres. Their deep dedication and hard work in their technical study create incredibly honest and skilled performances.
As a teenager, I saw Pina Bausch’s Rite of Spring and knew immediately that it was the direction of the dance style I wanted to pursue. I graduated from Folkwang University of the Arts and was immersed in training that was rooted in Ausdruckstanz (German Expressionism). This work focuses on emotional honesty in dance and theater. Pina Bausch’s creations were always unique because they came from her own vision and place of truth.
Merce Cunningham is another choreographer who has impacted me in my dance career. When I saw his collaborations with John Cage, I again saw a totally unique vision. I moved to New York to study with him. Later I graduated from NYU with a Masters in Fine Arts, where I studied under and collaborated with the great Postmodern dancemaker Gus Solomons, Jr.
Some contemporary choreographers/directors whom I admire nowadays include: Dimitris Papaioannou, Sasha Waltz, Anna Theresa de Keersmaeker and Ohad Naharin. Their works speak to me through their high production values and dramaturgical clarity. Everything is distinctive and well developed.
Q: Who is your favorite designer? Why?
A: This is a tough one! I have great respect and admiration for so many designers but am especially in awe of Karl Lagerfeld. Yes, another German artist. Do you sense a theme?
Karl Lagerfeld’s transformation of the fashion show to a theatrical speculative is something I’m especially appreciative of, as it brought fashion and performance and fine art closer together. He was incredibly prolific, working in many houses and never repeating an idea. Lagerfeld was fluid in his work and even as he aged remained open to the changing world, embracing social media and creating work in response to current events. In addition, Lagerfelds innovative thinking has transformed some brands into a global luxury powerhouse. I admire his ability to collaborate, to stay open, and to continue to innovate.
For me, day to day, I prioritize comfort and function. I have to be able to move easily! Currently I am wearing a lot of Saint Laurent, Alaia, Alexander Mcqueen. They all make great pieces with unique cuts that I can also ive my busy life in.
Daniel Roseberry is one of the most exciting designers working right now. His stunning red carpet and formal looks are architectural and sculptural, it feels like he’s bringing those mediums into fashion.
Q: What is art for you?
A: Art is everywhere. From the chef preparing your meal to the buildings that surround us, from a garden to a designer car or watch. For me personally, art is like breath. It has been with me and in my life since I was a small child, so I have many definitions of it. Art arises when there is something deep inside you that you need to express feelings or an objective observation reflected to the outside world.
Q: Favorite film
A: The film industry is so exciting and diverse, it’s impossible to pick just one. One of my favorite genres is documentary films. I love receiving first hand information as a way to learn about a subject.
The depth of artistry in film making is very exciting to me. I’m especially drawn to the work of directors like Fellini, Speilberg, Scorcese, Herzog,Wajda, Kubrick and Tarantino who are real masters of the craft. They create work that is unique and pushes the art forward. As an example, Speilberg’s Schindler’sListmade a huge impact on me as a young artist. More recently, Christopher Nolan’sOppenheimerhad incredible cinematography and cast.
Q&A
And I’d like to mention a contemporary filmmaker from Poland, my homeland, Paweł Pawlikowski. His work spans genres and does an incredible job capturing the Polish experience.
For individual films, I’ll watch something based on mood - I love returning to Pina Bauch's Rite of Spring (influence question); Dirty Dancing (childhood question); Schindler's List; Oppenheimer; One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Forrest Gump, The English Patient, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Scent of a Woman, Pulp Fiction, American Beauty
Q: Expand on your childhood. Who shaped you growing up?
A: Even though I was born under Communism in Poland, I actually had a lot of freedom as a child. We played sports, explored the nearby woods. I was a top student and had a rigorous education alongside that freedom. I was nurtured to be curious, very hard working, and free. From a very young age, I was enrolled in art and dance classes where I was given a lot of healthy structure and felt a strong sense of camaraderie with my peers. The freedom I had to explore nature made a big impact on me. I began taking my painting supplies out with me and actually was very serious about visual art as a teenager. Even though I became a professional dancer, this training and love of art always stayed with me and has shaped my dance work.
My father and I share a passion for physical activity, so I also had the opportunity to do a lot of sports with him including tennis and skiing.
I’ll never forget when a dance teacher showed me the movie White Nights and I saw Mikhail Baryshnikov for the first time. He has been a dance idol of mine ever since.
This also introduced me to America in a way. America was a far away wonderland for me as a child. I remember when the movie Dirty Dancing came out, I must have watched it twenty times! At that time, in the 80s, pop artists like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston or Madonna and the US athletes we were seeing all inspired me with how far they were going with their work.
My parents and my schooling both nurtured a strong work ethic in me. I have always been dedicated to working thoroughly and this was a huge help when I moved from Poland to Germany. I learned a new language, made friends, and became a professional dancer in a short amount of time. This wasn’t pushed on me by my parents, they only expected me to be a hard worker in whatever I was doing. My time in Germany is what led me to coming to New York. And I’ve been a proud New Yorker for the past two decades.

Q&A WITH
DR. CRIS ANDRADE
What is style for you?
A sense of style for me typically blends professionalism with a touch of elegance and sophistication. It’s important for my appearance to convey aesthetic expertise and a sense of beauty and refinement, since my role involves enhancing or restoring aesthetic features.
You run a brand with dedication and mentor young women….. what has been the secret of your success?
The secret to my success has been a combination of dedication, authenticity, and empowerment.
delivering quality, value, and service has been key. But equally important has been the ability to adapt—whether it's to trends, technology, or evolving clients’ needs. The balance between staying true to my roots and being flexible to innovate is crucial for long-term success.
Building Strong Relationships: Relationships are everything. Whether with clients, team members, or peers, building strong, genuine connections has been foundational to the brand’s growth. I’ve always focused on listening to others, understanding their needs, and creating solutions that make them feel valued.
Self-Awareness and Growth: Continuous learning and self-awareness are essential. I never stop educating myself—not just in my field but in personal development, leadership, and emotional intelligence. The more I grow, the better I can deliver results to my clients and lead the brand in a positive direction.
At the end of the day, the journey to success is about staying grounded in our values, cultivating a strong support network, and always striving to inspire and uplift others along the way.
The secret of looking youthful?
The secret to looking youthful goes beyond just skincare—it's a holistic approach that involves taking care of both your body and mind. Here are some key factors that I personally think contribute to a youthful appearance:
Healthy Lifestyle with adequate nutrition, good night sleep, and regular exercise
Targeted personalized Skincare Routine, Aesthetic Procedures: With minimally invasive procedures to slow down the aging process using Biostimulator such as Radiesse which is my favorite. Optimized Hormonal balance with Bioidentical hormone therapy. To feel your best and manage symptoms of menopause , hormonal imbalances, lack of energy and also thyroid imbalances. It is a big step in delaying the age process including preventing muscle and bone loss on woman during peri/menopause.
Running a brand is not just about delivering a product or service; it’s about building a meaningful connection with people, especially with patients who resonate with our values. The key in my point of view is:
-Passion for Purpose: I’ve always stayed true to my vision and values, believing in a greater purpose behind my brand. This clarity of purpose has allowed me to stay focused even during challenging times, and it’s what motivates me daily to show up with energy and authenticity.
Mentorship and Empowerment: I’ve found that success is not just about personal growth but about lifting others along the way.
Consistency and Adaptability: Consistency in
Your happy place?
I would say a combination: Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro where I was raised and Central Park , but they offer such different yet equally enriching experiences.
Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro represents relaxation, vibrant energy, and connection to nature—its golden sands, rhythmic waves, and lively atmosphere create the perfect spot for unwinding while enjoying the beauty of the ocean and the warmth of the sun.
On the other hand, Central Park in New York offers an entirely different kind of peaceful escape.

Hearts for Moms Inc., was birthed with the vision to expand our message of faith, hope and love by reaching out to a broader population of single moms that apply up to age 40.
In response to the growing demand for assistance arising from the severe economic crisis that single moms are grappling with, we've introduced an innovative program aimed at reducing the count of moms currently in our waitlist for aid (amounting to nearly 200 families facing
urgent circumstances). Our comprehensive approach consists of three distinct phases designed to guide moms toward selfsustainability by breaking the chains of poverty. Each program involves a process of holistic recovery through counseling, skill development courses that empower them, financial assistance to stabilize them, and consistent support to ensure accountability as they progress on the transformative journey that will lead them to become leaders of our community.

ATTORNEY
JASON GOLDMAN
The Lifeline of Criminal Defense
By Grace Katich
Practically overnight, Jason Goldman has become one of the most in-demand defense attorneys in NYC. How did it happen so fast for the 34-year-old?Theprosecutorturnedattorney, has his own eponymously named practice, The Law Offices of Jason Goldman, on the 35th floor at 275 Madison Avenue. He’s currently appealing the guilty verdict of Hannah Guttierrez-Reed, the armorer, convicted in the Alec Baldwin movie shooting case.
THE HUSTLE BEHIND GOLDMAN
Jason Goldman was lured into the world of criminal defense when he began skipping class at Cardozo Law School to go down to Centre Street, to watch the likes of famed attorney Gerald Shargel and others in action. Goldman says that he became enthralled with the criminal underworld and the fascination of convincing “12 strangers” to believe his narrative as opposed to the government ’ s. Upon graduating, Jason was recruited to become a Brooklyn prosecutor,
an office known for breeding scrappy trial lawyers. Here, he hustled, going desk to desk “in search of the biggest casefile that nobody wanted” and taking it to trial, honing his fundamentals and building his courtroom reputation.
A PRACTICE ON PASSION
After a few years, Goldman jumped from the DA’s office to work for Jeffrey Lichtman and then opened up his own shop. He has become the go-to defense lawyer for society figures and those in the tabloids for all the wrong reasons. He built his name by taking on clients “from all walks of life and doing right by them.” Given his trajectory, it’s clear he did right by them. The attorney likes to say he represents “all collars” –a single day can include defending an accused murderer and a C-suite executive charged with bank fraud. Goldman says trial lawyering, regardless of the charges, is about “telling a persuasive, emotional and compelling story about an individual.”
EMPATHY IS KEY
Goldman stresses that he is always humanizing his clients - “a lot of my success is taking a supposed villain of society and implying to a jury, ‘look, you don’t need to have dinner with the guy to find him not guilty.” At the end of the day, Goldman says, “even those accused of the worst crimes, you go down to their core and they have the same blood running through them, the same emotion and empathy, the same fears and vulnerabilities that we all have.”
THE LIFELINE
When asked why he thinks his career has taken off recently, he reverts right back to his passion. “When I quote a client, they know that it doesn’t just mean they get me 9-5. What kind of retainer would that be? They get me at midnight, on the weekends. I defend them as if it’s a family member.”

In addition, Dr. Leipziger excels in facial injectables (Botox, & Fillers ) to rejuvenate the face and turn back the clock. He is the Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at both North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
“AMERICA’S TOP DOCTORS “ LIST BY CASTLE CONNOLLY

He completed his plastic surgery residency at The New York HospitalCornell Medical Center and was then awarded a highly prestigious fellowship in Craniofacial and
THE CUSTOMIZED FACELIFT
Dr. Leipziger has seen a dramatic increase in facelifts due to rapid weight loss leading to facial volume depletion and sagging of the face and neck. He approaches facial plastic surgery with the goal of providing each patient with a completely personalized plan. With a fully customized facelift, Dr. Leipziger is able to artistically help anyone resolve common facial aging concerns, including facial folds, sagging face and neck skin, jowls, and/ or a sunken/gaunt appearance. Dr. Leipziger says, “A well done facelift remains the gold standard of facial rejuvenation procedures. No other operation can produce the equivalent lifting, filling, tightening and anti-aging effects.”

BREAST LIFTS / AUGMENTATIONS
Deflation of breast volume and tissue sag is similarly common after dramatic weight loss as well as postpartum changes. Dr. Leipziger says, this has resulted in a dramatic increase in breast lift procedures with or without breast augmentations. “The breast lift is a truly transformative procedure that can reshape a woman’s breast.” A breast lift can help elevate the breasts back to a more youthful position. If desired, additional volume may be added with a breast augmentation performed at the same time. Dr. Leipziger is passionate about designing completely personalized breast surgery.
TUMMY TUCKS
Microvascular Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. Dr. Leipziger has been consistently named in New York Magazine Top Doctors, New York Times Super Doctors and been selected as one of “America’s Top Doctors” by Castle Connolly.
REFINING BEAUTY WITH EXPERTISE & COMPASSION
As a result of Dr. Leipziger’s masterful and personalized technique for cosmetic surgeries, he has gained an impressive reputation built on trust that’s perpetuated from patient to patient. Praised time and time again for his meticulous technique, artistic aesthetic sense, comprehensive consultations, and sound judgment, Dr. Leipziger works closely with his patients to discuss their goals and review realistic expectations prior to any cosmetic procedure. "It has been my experience that good communication is the key to a successful and rewarding doctor-patient relationship,” explains Dr. Leipziger.
Dr. Leipziger has also seen an increased interest in tummy tucks after weight loss. This is in addition to the tummy tucks he performs after pregnancy. Post pregnancy changes as well as weight loss may cause the skin and abdominal wall muscles to become stretched and often lack the elasticity to shrink back. Unfortunately, no amount of exercise will improve this condition. “Tummy tucks aim to solve this dilemma, by ridding your body of excess skin and tightening the abdominal wall muscles. This will improve your core, tighten your waistline and restore a naturally slimmer figure.” explains Dr. Leipziger.
ANTI-AGING IN-OFFICE TREATMENTS
Subtle weight loss in the face may not require surgery and can be addressed with in-office injectables. Dr. Leipziger says, “I look at patients with an aesthetic eye in order to determine how to best sculpt and refine their appearance. After a thorough examination of a patient’s facial anatomy, I select from many types of injectables, and nonsurgical treatments, that will produce the intended refinements and enhance a patient's natural look.”
Dr. Leipziger’s top priority is to provide the best possible care, outcome and experience for every one of his patients. “There is nothing more rewarding to me than a happy patient,” he says. drleipziger.com
Upscale Indian
At the heart of Veerays is, of course, the food. Chef Hemant Mathur has crafted a menu that pays homage to traditional Indian cuisine while embracing the spirit of the 1920s. The menu begins with a selection of “Swanky Starters,” including Avni’s Prohibition Bhaji, a vegetable curry cooked in tomato gravy with a soft pav roll, and Vintage Rajasthani Sule, lamb marinated with fiery red chilies, Indian spices, kachri and hung yogurt. As well as dishes like the Vintage Rajasthani Sule, lamb marinated with fiery red chilies and hung yogurt, and Bootlegger Bison, a modern take on a South Indian pepper fry, all reflecting this fusion of old and new.
New Indian Speakeasy Experience in Midtown VEERAYS
By Lexi Wolf
Veerays, the new Indian speakeasy in Midtown, is the brainchild of Michelin-starred Chef Hemant Mathur, restaurateur Sonny Solomon, and Chef Binder Saini. Blending traditional Indian flavors and drawing inspiration from the roaring 1920s, Veerays is bringing a new perspective to Indian cuisine.
Solomon brings his extensive expertise to the project. Having honed his skills under culinary giants such as Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Daniel Orr, David Burke, and Geoffrey Zakarian, Solomon is well-versed in the art of upscale dining. His past ventures like Kurry Qulture, Tulsi, and Veeray da Dhaba have been critically acclaimed. In collaboration with Mathur, the first Indian chef in the U.S. to earn a Michelin star, Solomon aims to provide an unparalleled dining experience.
One of a Kind Decor
At Veerays, the dining experience begins even before you step into the space, with only a brass triangle marking the unassuming exterior. The interior was designed by the visionary architectural duo Vinciane Albrecht and Anne Carcelen, cofounders of OulipO architecture studio, and cultivates an ambiance that transports guests to the era of Prohibition. OulipO’s reputation for creating immersive environments shines through, as every detail is custom made and reflects the charm of a speakeasy.
The blend of old-world elegance with contemporary touches creates a captivating atmosphere. From red velvet booths to cognac leather to brass and mahogany, the space vibrates with the essence of Art Deco.
The menu offers an array of “Showstoppers” that promise to dazzle diners. The Rogan Josh, a slowbraised lamb shank with Kashmiri chilies, the Camel Seekh Kebab, and Duck Vindaloo, with caramelized onions and coconut rice, are just a few highlights. Tandoor-grilled meats, labeled as "Prime Picks," include The Don’s Lamb Chops served with pear chutney, a specialty of Chef Hemant. For those who crave the classics, the Retro Style section includes beloved dishes like Madame Makhani, a traditional butter chicken or paneer in a rich tomato fenugreek sauce. Also offered is a tasting menu of exotic meats, such as ostrich, kangaroo, yak, and alligator. But no Indian meal is complete without naan, and Veerays offers creative takes on the classic bread with flavors like Rosemary & Mint, Olive Garlic, and Coconut Naan.
Desserts & Drinks
The “Giggle Water” cocktail menu is a tribute to the Prohibition era, with classic 1920s drinks named after infamous gangsters. The Diamond Joe, a refreshing take on the French 75, and Charles ‘King Solomon, a modern Sidecar, are just two of the options that complement the restaurant’s theme. veerays.com

"First of all, thank you to the Academy for this honor. We dedicate this award to all the employees of SOMOS Community Care. Most importantly, we look forward to a time when peace may return to this world and understanding among human beings—regardless of their religion—can arise again. Amen."
The subject of the documentary, Pope Benedict XVI was the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican
City State from 19 April 2005 until his resignation on 28 February 2013. He died on December 31, 2022. The 48-minute documentary highlights the legacy and doctrine of Pope Benedict XVI and seeks to answer the question in many people’s mind as to why he resigned five years ago, the first Pope to present his resignation in 700 years. Was it the coming to the fore of the sexual abuse cases by priests or the butler stealing the Pope’s confidential documents?
The answers are revealed through the study of documents held by the Vatican archives and a series of interviews with people close to Ratzinger and witnessed closely the most significant moments in the life of the pontiff’. These include Ratzinger’s brother, Georg Ratzinger; the former spokesman of the Holy See, Fr. Federico Lombardi, and other close collaborators, such as Cardinal Cristoph Schönborn and his assistant Stephen Horn.
Inspired by the spirit of Founder, Dr. Ramon Tallaj and his social vision of the medical profession; the mission is to work with talented young people of low socio-economic status to help train physicians, general surgeons and professionals in healthcare related fields.
The Dr. Ramon Tallaj Foundation strives to have a positive impact in the lives of outstanding individuals and the communities they serve in the United States and the Dominican Republic.
THE GREATEST PARTY ON EARTH
“ PARTY BOYS”
Lon Ballinger on his Webster Hall Memoir
By Bennet Marcus
Madonna, Prince, Lady Gaga, Jimmy Fallon, & Richard Nixon
PARTY BOYS is an entertainment and educational epic written about the club Webster Hall by its co-founder Lon Ballinger. Written from the heart, Ballinger recounts the real life stories of four creative Canadian brothers who became the best nightlife operators in NYC as the curators of Webster Hall for 30 years. It was the greatest party on earth.
This is just one of the many events staged by largerthan-life stars at Webster Hall recounted in Lon Ballinger’s new memoir, “Party Boys: How the Ballinger Brothers Built the Best Nightclubs in the World,” about his three decades of running the club with his brothers Steven, Douglas, and Peter.
With four different spaces of various sizes, from tiny to one accommodating 1,500 people, the 40,000 square-foot Webster Hall hosted musicians from unknowns to superstars. “We gave birth to Lady Gaga, the Kings of Leon, Florence + The Machine; so many of them became huge stars starting in our little basement,” said Lon Ballinger.
Farm Boys Make It in Manhattan
These unlikely nightlife impresarios, four brothers who grew up poor on a farm in rural Canada, stuck together as adults, opening businesses starting with a pizza parlor which they later sold, trading up until eventually becoming the nightclub kings of Toronto. But they had their hearts set on NYC.
They bought Webster Hall in 1988, spent a few years renovating and waiting for their liquor license, and finally opened in 1992 with the intention of making it “New York City’s official nightclub,” as much an icon as the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. These under-the-radar club owners not only survived and thrived for decades in this notoriously fickle business, but they did it in a refreshingly wholesome way, offering a kind of roadmap for budding entrepreneurs.
Running the Club the Right Way
Ballinger notes that they lasted nearly 30 years with a 3,000-person nightclub in New York City “where they'll knock you on your ass as quick as look at you.” By writing the book, he wanted people to see that that could happen, but you have to do things right. “It was a big, wild, crazy place, but we kept it.” Webster Hall had a huge security force, and they never had any fights at the club in all those years. They cooperated with the police, followed the rules, and were good neighbors.

RISKS AND RETURNS
By Bennet Marcus
We all know of Wilbur Ross as the Wall Street titan dubbed the “King of Bankruptcy” who also served as commerce secretary in the Trump administration.
Now, at 86, after his illustrious 55-year career, Ross has written a memoir, “Risks and Returns: Creating Success in Business and Life,” the book is full of surprises. While he talks about how he became successful in business and politics, mixing with tycoons like Warren Buffett, Carl Icahn, and the Rothschilds, some details of his personal life –hanging out with King Charles, potluck dinners at the Dakota with John Lennon and Yoko Ono - are revelations.
LIVING AT THE DAKOTA WITH JOHN, YOKO & BETTY BACALL
Ross lived for 20 years at the Dakota, the Central Park West apartment building known for its artsy residents like John Lennon, Leonard Bernstein and Roberta Flack. “I was an anomaly because it was not a big hangout for Wall Street people, but I found it fascinating.” Did he meet Lauren Bacall, a resident for over 50 years? “Yes, but we knew her by her real name, which was Betty.”
MODEST BACKGROUND
Despite his Wall Street success, Ross came from a modest background. His father, a
lawyer, passed away when he was a student at Yale, so he obtained student aid, got a part-time job, and joined the ROTC, which paid a small stipend, to cover his living expenses. “I had two younger siblings and my mother was a third-grade teacher, so it was a heavy lift for her to bring up another two children and get them properly educated and all that, so I became self-sufficient when I was a teenager."
BOOK TOUR
Ross has embarked on an ambitious book tour, with stops this summer at the Reagan Library in California, Sea Island in Georgia, Nantucket and in the Hamptons. The fall included multiple appearances in New York and around the country to Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Chicago, Washington and more.
BOOK REALIZES A DREAM
In a way, the publication of this book is a full-circle moment in Ross’s life – as a student at Yale, his dream was to be a fiction writer. He signed up for a course which required writing 1,000 words of fiction or poetry every day by 10 am. “By the end of the second week, I was out of material, so I dropped the course, and it saved me from a life of poverty,” he said. “Now, all these decades later, I have a lot of material. It's not fictional, it's factual. But in that sense, this is the result of a 60-some-odd-year preparation.”
