Desk Side Sneak Peak
Rather than gather in person, Hasbro brought Toy Fair via Zoom
ELEFUN FLYERS Madeline couldn’t get past the first thing shown in the presentation. The version she played with Megan in the 2000s had a loud batteryoperated motor that was supposed to blow a dozen papery butterfly pieces out a long plastic tube, but you had to shake the tube. This version requires kids to step on the tail to launch spinning discs instead. It’s so much cuter!
MONOPOLY BUILDER Hasbro previewed two new twists on Monopoly. The first is a version of the board game that includes blocks to build an island city. Players still travel the board to buy properties and collect rent, but the game ends when the penthouse has been built. The second is Monopoly Crooked Cash where players might be making a fortune with fake cash and chance cards. A decoder ring allows players to challenge others.
PLAY-DOH ALL MIXED UP Why fight to separate globs into dried up balls of single colors? This is one really big can—2.75 pounds!—to store all the colors together. For those playing with the slime version of Play-Doh, Lava Bones Island playset with Hydroglitz compound will hit store shelves in April.
PJ MASKS DELUXE BATTLE HQ This appears much easier to store than the HQ we have in Casa Vega. Equipped with Hasbro Hero ID technology, the playset recognizes figures to activate lights and sounds for each character. “Launching projectiles with the blaster” sounds like the feature my kids would most want to see on their version of HQ.
PEPPA’S FAMILY MOTORHOME Another blast from the Vega family past, Peppa, George, Mummy, and Daddy Pig 3” figures can roll along in the motorhome until it’s time to set up camp. Four figures and 15 accessories included.
MY POTATO FAMILY Dropping the “Mr.” and including 42 accessories, the set retailing for $19.99 will allow kids to customize families and express themselves with whacky looks. Most parts are compatible with other Potato Head toys for even more variety in family dynamics.
