“In 2003, Isobel & Elinor formed a vision of the future of the art market and how it could support the career development of the artists of the future. They imagined a new generation of art buyers, given confidence and drawn into all the pleasures of art by, equally, the power of people and technology. Today this is being achieved.”
2
OUR VISION We create for the world a sustainable, exciting and genuine community of artists and art appreciators.
WHEB + DEGREEART DegreeArt are proposing to build a bespoke art collection for the WHEB office walls created by artists promoted and supported by the gallery. The artwork in this proposal has been carefully chosen to reflect WHEB’s mission and to further it through ongoing patronage of the artists they select to collect from.
3
SELECTED CURRENT PROJECTS & PARTNERS Partnering with the climate change charity Zero Hour, we are holding an art auction supporting of their CEE Bill. GUGLIELMO ALFARONE Illustrator & Drawing (MA PAINTING, PRINTMAKING , 2009)
Italian born Guglielmo studies the people around him as inspiration for his work. To create his thoughtful drawings. Each subject is deeply engaged with their own history and present. Our suggestion: Would be to commission drawings of everyone at the office that would be shown together, to capture your community in this moment. It could be added to as people join.

DR HELEN GØRRILL Royal College of Arts (PhD Contemporary Painting , 2016) From the North East and now living in remote Scotland, Helen’s painting-collages explore ideas of time, our history and our reality; using contemporary imagery that juxtaposes with the Old Masters. Her artwork focuses on reviving and reappropriating art historical portraits through photobombing and incorporating elements from contemporary subcultures. Example: In the example below, the commissioner's eye has been used in the portrait, his favorite hotel is in there, as well as Glyndebourne (one of his passions) and links to the South of France, family mottos, safari and wildlife conservation, which he is passionate about.

CODY CHOI Graduate Diploma in Dance Performance at Trinity Laban, London
Hong Kong born Cody Choi's photography demonstrates his acumen in dance and photography. A trainer dancer himself, he understands the art does not stop at the movements, but extends to the dancers’ ability and state of mind, propelling them to take risks and ‘leap forward’. Cody was selected for his positive and inspirational messages that he conveys through his images of dancers. Their freedom of movement and the positive connotations with ‘taking a leap of faith’ is also important messaging in a business environment.

SOPHIE DERRICK Leeds University (BA Hons Fine Art , 2008)
Sophie Derrick's work very much focuses on portraiture, but with the use of both painting and photography this genre is skewed and manipulated, and the transformative properties of paint are pushed to the limit. She photographs the act of painting onto her own skin and then paints on top of the photographs, creating a layering of image of paint and painted image, blurring the boundaries between the two. The 'self' is lost, buried beneath the paint, and the notion of portraiture is questioned. The body becomes both object and subject within Sophie Derrick's work.

Liverpudlian Lucy, aims to construct landscapes, interiors and imagined spaces through drawing. She often reacts to specific locations or found images to form her altered environments. Motifs from these scenes are repeated and developed throughout her work, sliding over, sitting on and blending into surfaces to play with the depth of an image.

LYRA MORGAN Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (Art and Design , 2011)
“I feel 'at home' in 3 places....in and with nature, in my studio and in water. This planet is home to us all, the only planet we have available to us to enable life. Sometimes even Mother Nature needs some TLC and we owe it to 'her' to give her some!” - Lyra Morgan Each piece is instinctively balanced in composition and is created organically and by Lyra being free enough in spirit to allow each work to build through a cycle of evolution. Lyra’s painting convey calm. Finding different ways to represent water is an ongoing theme in her practice, whether it be a formed, yet formless cloud or a flowing river.

ALEXANDRA GALLAGHER University of Manchester (BAPainting, 2009)
Award winning Alexandra Gallagher’s beautiful work, inspired by the natural world, takes the form of collage, street art, prints, photography and painting. Her work celebrates the surreal and sublime. Between the realms of memory, dreams and experience, her work looks beyond our subjective limits and often tells a story of inner imagination and thoughts. Our suggestion: An inspirational, subversive mural that could either be applied straight onto the wall, or could be would be mounted on aluminium/ perspex fist and therefore can be moved if needed.

SHEMA LADVA University of Westminster (BA Hons Illustration , 2000)
Shema Ladva’s paintings deal with reality, whether its people, nature or animals. Her focus is on humanity, real people and real issues. Her chosen subject matters have covered human rights, inter-racial relationships, homelessness, poverty, animal welfare and plantscape. “The topic of people has always been pivotal to my work. I find the dynamics of people and groups of people more entertaining than any other subject matter. Throw in decorative nuances, juxtaposition of nature and architecture and my subjects enter a whole new world."

Y ULYIA MARTINOVA Kazakhstani artist Yuliya Martynova lives and works in London, where she creates Watercolour Paintings that are awash with colour. While it may take a moment to identify them, upon closer inspection you’ll notice that Yuliya’s work tends to take paper planes and boats as subject, making travel and movement a key theme in her art.
“Inspired by Claude Monet gardens and William Turner sky scapes, gestural brushstrokes show the flow of the scene, creating different angles and directions, to replicate the wind blowing through the summer garden as you walk through the lush shadowy paths and dappled light drops through the trees and brunches. I wanted to seal my love for summer forests and walks when everything is set in motion when time slows down and your mind unwinds, focusing on something intricate like a fern leaf when your mind rises above the micro world and expands to catch the glimpse of something bigger” 48

CLAIRE MALET Hereford College of Art (BA Hons Contemporary Applied Art , 2005) Claire’ s subject is the natural environment. living and working in rural Herefordshire. Her studio overlooks orchards, hills and woodland. Walking is an essential part of her practise; looking at the landscape, the changes through the year, the constant fragile cycle of growth, decay, renewal. 5% of all of Claire's sales are donated to the Woodland Trust and the Marine conservation society. “I make objects using re-cycled precious and non-precious metals and ‘found’ materials. The materials I work with are chosen and combined to evoke and challenge the relationship we have with the natural world and our perceived values of the resources we use; as ‘raw’ material I value a tin-can as much as a sheet of silver.’

MARY DALTON Royal College of Art (MFA Printmaking , 2008) “My practice is led by unique, dynamic prints. The works tell stories of daily life from an unusual family perspective. From lithography to lino, collage to dry-point, environmental concerns are valued in my practice and day-to day work. The tales of our family living a life with a low footprint on this planet form the basis of all my work. The materials and techniques I use within printmaking are all checked, improved, or developed to reduce my impact upon the planet.” - Mary Dalton
